Daksha was growing fast, and Ashe couldn't help her learning about...babies. Between Santiago ruling the cave, and other mature draconics speaking on such topics, it wasn't too terribly long before Daksha wanted a clutch of her own. She didn't quite know what it entailed, no one had quite given her the messy details, but she knew she had to get herself to the breeding rooms, which Ashe knew the location of so check that off, and she had to meet a male. Ashe had noticed her restlessness, and had found out through Santiago what it was that troubled her. He choked out a laugh and rolled his eyes. Of course she wanted to grow up instantly. No more hatchling antics for her! He sighed and looked her over, as she stood near her father. She looked so much like him, just a little bit softer… Azrael was shaking his head, making Ashe wonder what they had been discussing. He was too far away to hear.

Jinx arrived back at the cave after a quick meeting with Ashe. Her boss wanted her to bring Spyte, a strapping young male Lashak in her care, to the breeding den. She hadn't been there since Starburst's last venture, and that had gone rather well, with some adorable baby draconics to show for it, so Jinx herself was quite excited to see where this trip left them! Eagerly, she went to rouse the Lashak, who yawned and stretched his wings, his arms and then his legs. He tilted his head curiously at her, and she managed to get across that she wanted him to come with her. She hadn't sat down and taught her draconics common, she hadn't sat there and talked to them much at all… they weren't the closest family, but she had only just become more comfortable with them. Large dragons, with the intelligence of a human or greater, but without the desire to kill and destroy? Yeah, that took some adjusting to.

Ashe and Daksha arrived first. The Malavos looked around with a bright eagerness that betrayed her age, and Ashe had to duck out of the way as she moved forward, her tail swinging a little too high behind her. "Careful!" he called after her, but to no avail. She was heading down the path and, inevitably, to their destination. A glance around them told Ashe they were the only ones here right now, so they might have to wait a little bit for Jinx to catch up with the male he'd chosen to, erm, satisfy Daksha's curiosity. When Ashe caught up to her, she was already exploring the rooms, and Ashe quickly encouraged her to pick out the one she liked the best. That would distract her while Jinx joined them, he hoped, and keep her entertained. He stood guard by the door, arms crossed as he waited. His gaze sharpened as he noticed movement, then shapes- there they were!

Jinx and the large purple dragon were climbing up the last of the path when she spotted Ashe standing there, waving to acknowledge her presence. She gave him a nod back, and gestured to Spyte, indicating that she had brought the draconic with her. Spite followed her gesture and saw Ashe. It was about the same time he caught a wiff of the female who accompanied Ashe, though he couldn't see her. He had never met this female before and he was eager to be acquainted. He looked to Jinx, almost as if for permission, then he excused himself to go seek her out. Jinx laughed a bit to herself, wondering what kind of world it was when humans brought dragons together, almost on leashes, to breed and make babies. She doubted she would ever get the hang of this world! But they were here, so things might as well get moving along. She tried to think of this as…. Parental supervision.

Daksha had picked out an interesting room, one with smooth raised rock for lounging on, one with interesting footholds in the walls, and also with a small spring moving through it. She leaned down to sip from the refreshing waters, which must come from deeper in the mountain and flow out to meet with the river below. She let out a soft sigh - and became aware that she wasn't alone anymore. She started and whirled around, seeing a large dark shadow blocking the doorway. Her mind told her to settle down, it was probably the male she was destined to meet here, but an irrational part of her was taut like a bowstring and ready to fire. Her heart hammered in her chest, as if there was a beast big enough in these caves that could do her harm. She was a mighty malavos! "H-hello," she said, by way of greeting, and hopefully confirming her speculations.

The Lashak puffed his chest up, feeling pleased with himself. Though what for, was unclear. Perhaps just pleased that the lady had noticed him? He rustled his wings, just to kind of show them off, that he had them. But he stopped when he saw the stubby things on the lady's back. He suddenly felt apologetic. Though it wasn't his intention, him doing that had probably come off as bragging that he had wings and she didn't. It wasn't her fault she had none, the Malavos Breed had evolved strengths in other areas… he let out a low rumble in his throat, like a human clearing it. "My name is," and he said something in Draconic, that the humans wouldn’t have known. "But the human who cannot speak my tongue calls me Spyte. It is my pleasure to meet your acquaintance, what are you called?" It was clear from his manner of speech that he didn't socialize too much; he actually kept to himself often.

Spyte? Daksha was young, and she didn’t understand the Common tongue so much, the language that the people used most often, but even translated it didn’t sound like a kind name. ”Why are you called that?” She wondered, unable to help herself even if it sounded a bit rude to ask such a thing. She lacked those kinds of manners, it seemed, though it could just be chalked up to her youth. ”I am Daksha. It means ‘honest one,’ I am told.” She had taken her name to mean she was an honest worker, and did her best, but now that she said it, well… She was honest when she spoke, too. She lacked the guile to lie about things. She couldn’t help it. That was when she noticed his wings.. Or at least when she allowed herself to acknowledge them. She felt hers move in reaction, as if aching to fly, and they never would.

Spyte was taken aback. He hadn’t really realized his name was so bad, but now that it was brought to his attention, he realized what the word spite meant in common tongue. Why would the humans name him that? He couldn’t remember; had it been the lady or the man that had named him? He had been around both of them since he was born, though he lived with the girl. She was quiet and soft spoken enough that he couldn’t imagine she would come up with it. But he had had it so long… He shook his head and looked at her, finding that he had to be honest, too. ”I don’t know why I am called that. I did not decide on my name, nor did I do anything to deserve that, that I am aware of…” He was grateful for her name; honest. And her honesty had brought this to light. ”It is truly a pleasure to meet you, Daksha,” he told her.

”You know, if you don’t like your name as it is, you could change it. Can you speak to the humans? In a language they understand? You could just tell her, ‘I don’t like this name, this is my real name.’” Daksha spoke with more determination than she actually had; she was lucky, she liked her name and felt like it suited her. Her human, Ashe, was able to speak her language a little bit, or at least understand what she was trying to tell him. She would one day learn Common, though her father and Auntie Trish had informed her she might not grasp it all. Malavos were a distinct breed of their own; they did not take part in draconic politics and other such things. They kept to themselves. And apparently never knew the joys of flying… She sighed softly, staring at his wings, sad for him that he had to keep them furled… For her.

Spyte nodded, appreciating her thoughts. ”I might do that. I just need to think of a name I like more,” He said, then chuckled a little bit once he realized that that was the hard part. He had to pick his own name, something that would be stuck on him forever. He thought it would be silly to just continue changing his name for the rest of his life, after all. Was this the pressure the humans felt, too? Trying to find a name that they, and he, would like for the rest of his long life? Maybe they had thought this was a good name, and would be upset when he changed it? He shook his head to rid himself of those thoughts; focus first on finding a name that he liked enough to present with the girl, then he would feel better. ”I am big, And strong. And purple. I can…” He was about to say fly, for sky related names, but he stopped himself. ”I can move big things. Like rocks.”

Wow this was such an amazing sell, Daksha thought. She could hardly keep from rolling her eyes, and only managed to do so because her attention was snagged by his obvious omittance. ”You can fly,” she told him bluntly. ”It’s okay, you can’t deny what you are just to appease my feelings.” She said it bluntly, but kindly. She would be jealous of flight, but she didn’t want it to diminish his radiance. She was a Malavos, they were proud tunnel diggers and were able to create tunnels and caves and carve intricate designs. They were not made to be creatures of the air. But Lashak were, and Spyte was born to fly. ”Are you fast?” She asked him, her wings moving on her back as if to simulate, all on their own, something she would never know. But she was determined to be helpful in the naming! This she could do.

Spyte was quiet, thinking. He knew he could fly, and had for short periods on his own while exploring, but he hadn’t really… flown with anyone else before. So he didn’t know where he ranked when compared. He lifted a clawed hand and scratched his chin, a motion he had copied and made habitual from the humans. ”I feel like I am… But I don’t really...fly with others,” he admitted to her. Her name meant honesty, and she was an honest being, so he felt like he had to live up to the honesty vibe as well. He didn’t want her to think any less of him, though, when she found out he was a loner and not all powerful like he appeared to be! And that wasn’t dishonesty - he never made claims, he just knew how he looked! ”I am not the most nimble, though. I am too big to flit around like a Shayala.”

Shayala! Daksha snorted. Those tiny magical things, smarter than everything else, thought they were so cool. Daksha didn’t have a high opinion of them, in part because she did not really have access to meeting one. Ashe had mostly Makiyan and malavos in his den, and the Naniyesh, while super smart, seemed much more down to earth. So perhaps it was prejudice, but from what Daksha had seen, Shayala weren’t the best. ”Your wings are much more powerful than a Shayala’s wings,” She said approvingly. ”Maybe we’ll call you… Cloudjumper? Gale winds? Something with wings maybe?” As she said these options, she strode around Spyte, looking him over, trying to find something else that might describe him better. Words to describe nature went through her mind, but those didn’t usually sound that great for a big strong male. She’d have to keep trying, because nothing else was really coming to mind. Windy. Gusty. Gale.

Spyte shook his head, not quite liking any of the names that she had suggested for him. He would have to think on this a while, and it might not become fully fleshed out in this visit, either. But as he was thinking, names in both Common and Draconic flooded his mind, from sounds to actual words. And something was tugging at the back of his mind, hoping to be noticed. He couldn’t drag it forward, but it felt at least like a name was starting to form. He just couldn’t reach it yet. He let out a heavy sigh and inclined his head toward Daksha. ”Would you fancy a walk through the water, to cool off a bit?” He didn’t know about her, but he was definitely warm. It was the heat of the day, combined with sitting and thinking intently. Water just sounded splendid right now, so he thought to offer. He stood and stretched his legs, in case she joined him.
