[Breeding 1/10]
He hadn't yet seen the results of his most recent pachee experiment, but here he was feeding pachees more strange items. Or his partner would be, they were bringing what was apparently a mussimander mushroom despite looking more like a rock. Or maybe it was just the picture? Nerius hadn't met Silver or the mushroom in person, they'd posted an add on the quest board, and they'd communicated that way.
Nerius had been sure to reach the breeding center a little ahead of time, he'd wanted to be sure he wouldn't be late. It gave him time to fill out the forms at least, which he was doing. The carrier holding the pachee, Spectre, was sitting on the table next to him. At first, she'd been trying to see what he was doing, but after a few moments realized there was a whole room to try to observe, and was rustling around in the carrier, doing her best to peer out of every hole.

A few days ago, Silver had sketched out and posted a hastily written ad on the quest board, asking for a partner to breed Pachee with. They didn't have a lot of Pachee of their own, so they had thought it was a good idea. To sweeten the deal, they included a sketch of a mushroom they liked the look of. Little did they know, the offer of strange mushrooms would turn out to be very popular, and before they knew it they had multiple pairings to arrange.
Today they brought with them Ounce, a lightly glowing Pachee from a past breeding experiment. He was lightly tucked under their arm, held just tight enough so he couldn't wiggle free and run rampant around the breeding center. Silver let themselves inside and looked around the room. Someone was filling out the forms, but they only had one Pachee that they could see. Did that mean that this was their partner?
"Ah, hello," Silver said softly. They waved their hand and shook their tail, causing a little rain of sparkles dancing to the floor. Should they say something else? Ah, too late, they were already standing there, frozen awkwardly in place.

[Breeding 3/10]
Nerius had been calmly filling out the paperwork, and was briefly aware of the door opening, before the all too familiar feel of a light elemental stuck him, and all calm was replaced by a bolt of pure, blank panic. He jerked, pen skittering across the form, and his gaze snapped to the direction of the magic. Nerius wasn't sure how long he was frozen (it was only a few seconds), before he realized that was not the person he'd thought it was. Which would have been ridiculous, he wouldn't be halfway across the continent, in a breeding area for small fluffy creatures no less. Besides, this person was nearly two feet shorter and had a tail.
They.. were also standing there rather awkwardly, and Nerius wasn't sure if that was a personal trait, or if his own galabex-in-the-headlights reaction was the cause. Either way he should probably say something, but it was hard to think of anything coherent when his mind was still in panic-threat mode.
"Hello," his tone was even more stiff than usual, and that was saying something, "You're.. ah.." Damn it all, what was his partner's name again? "Silver, yes?" While their skin wasn't silver like a Vrost, their hair.. (fur?) was, and it prompted the memory of the name.
Spectre, on the other hand, wasn't the least bit bothered by the new arrival. In fact, as she peered out of the carrier, she could see another pachee in their arms, a potential friend?

"Oh! Ah, yep," Silver nodded. They still felt pretty weird, meeting up with a stranger like this. Then again, they often felt weird in social situations, so they should be used to it by now. They silently wondered if maybe they did something unusual, since the guy seemed kind of jumpy. Perhaps that's just how he was, though. Silver tried their best not to overthink it, and instead they just smiled and held Ounce up for Nerius to see.
"This is, ah, Ounce, my male Pachee," they explained. Ounce simply blinked a couple of times, wondering where the weird smells were coming from.
A ghostly grey Paogon chirped and landed on top of Silver's head, looking down at the Pachee. Who knows what he was doing before that. "Ah, oh, and this is Quin," Silver said. They looked pointedly up at him and said, "He won't be bothering us."
"Oh, sorry, but, ah, I forgot your name," Silver said sheepishly. They thought it was best to just be honest.

[Breeding 5/10]
Even with his own stress levels having shot through the roof, and his own social graces rather inelegant, the other person seemed even more awkward. Nerius couldn't be sure he hadn't done something to cause it, but he was starting to suspect it was a personal trait.
It was also very, very strange to be in front of someone with an identical magical field, but a complete opposite in appearance and temperament. Helpful though, if Silver had also looked or acted like the person they felt like, it would have been much worse.
And while pachee small talk didn't make for a deep conversation, it was at least easy enough to muddle through. "He's very pretty, I didn't realize from the picture that he glows." He paused for a moment, trying to smile in return but probably failing miserably, and set a hand on the carrier, "This is Spectre." The pachee was peering out of the carrier, but there wasn't a whole lot of her visible at the moment.
The arrival of the ghostly creature was enough to distract from the pachee, as well as the feel of the light elemental, if only a little. "I've not seen that sort of creature before, what is he?" This 'Quin' could have been a highly modified faeron, but Nerius could feel tendrils of magic emanating from the little dragon as well.
"I'm Nerius," he wasn't offended, and it wouldn't be the first time someone fumbled over his name during a pachee breeding.

"Ah, thank you," Silver said. They always felt weird accepting compliments on their creatures' behalf, but they thought that if they didn't say anything, that would be rude. "Nice to meet you Spectre," Silver said, looking at the carrier. Truth be told, they couldn't see her that well, but again, they wanted to be polite.
"Quin is a Paogon," Silver said with a nod. Their expression lit up a little. Obviously they liked talking about their creatures. Quin knew they were talking about him, so he stretched out in an exaggerated manner, like a cat waking up. "They're a wild species, so they're not so, ah, common," they explained.
"Quin and I have a special bond, and he ... he is attached to my, ah.. spirit?" Silver didn't really know how to convey the connection a familiar had to its mage, since they didn't really study magic. It was hard to objectively explain something that complicated without knowing the right vocabulary.

[Breeding 7/10]
The colorfully leafed pachee didn't understand Silver's words, but did recognize someone was talking to her. Spectre rustled her leaves, and stared back at the elemental, one large, teal eye taking up the entirety of the slot. The carrier was mostly solid, some of his pachee were rather skittish, and did better with a more enclosed space.
"Interesting," not a faeron then; Nerius knew there were some creatures imported, but lab created ones were either more popular, or more likely easier to create.
"Like a familiar?" That was the first thing he thought of off of the description, though it was possible it was some sort of other bond. Silver hadn't outright said familiar, and there were other sorts of links, golems, and draconics, both were capable of guardian or soul bonds.
Spectre was moving around in the carrier now, having caught a glimpse of Silver and Ounce, she wanted to come out and say hi. The movement served to remind Nerius, 'oh right the paperwork'. He was mostly finished, at least, even if there was a long, jagged line of ink through the sheet. He checked off the last of the info boxes, before offering the clipboard to Silver, asking, "Did you need to fill anything out for the mushroom?"

"Yea. Familiar. That... sounds right," Silver said with a nod. Quin mimiced their nod, bopping his head up and down in an exaggerated manner. For someone who literally sparkled with magic, they sure didn't seem to know much about it. Perhaps one day Nerius could give them a lesson, if only they could get through the this first.
"Ah, probably," they said sheepishly, looking at the papers. They figured that disclosing the information now was better than getting in trouble later, but they had no clue what they were actually supposed to do in this instance. Their friend Jack had always signed for them before.
"That should do it," they said, finishing their mostly legible scribbles and setting the clipboard on the counter. Ounce started to wiggle under their arm, trying to let himself free. He wanted to sniff and play and make new friends! He was quickly becoming very impatient with the whole process.
"Oh! Be careful," Silver said, tightening their grip so he didn't fall. "We'd better, ah, get started, eh?"

[Breeding 9/10]
Or maybe it was a familiar bond, and Silver just wasn't terribly knowledgeable about magic. They were an elemental, after all, and that only required a basic awareness of magic. Yes, the elemental thing, which he was trying very hard not to think about, he was talking to small floof, not a warlord, it was fine.
"They're certainly impatient with us," Nerius agreed. Spectre had never been bred before, and didn't recognize the building, she just knew there was a potential friend.
Once the clipboard was returned to the counter, the receptionist behind the desk directed the pair to their assigned room. It was standard for pachee, and once the door was secured, Nerius let Spectre out of the carrier. Some were a bit shy, and needed time to be coaxed out, but Spectre scampered right out, making a beeline over to Silver and Ounce, rustling her leaves in greeting. Nerius took the opportunity to set out the berries, make it a dinner date.

Silver adjusted their grip on Ounce once more as they headed for their assigned room. They quickly gestured to Quin to make sure he was paying attention and that he would follow suit. There were too many things for him to get into here, so they kept a very close eye on him.
Ounce continued to wiggle and wrestle, sensing that something exciting was about to happen. They weren't just standing around doing nothing anymore. He wanted to get down and play. Why wouldn't anyone let him play?
Finally, just as they stepped into the room, Silver awkwardly shifted their weight at the same time that Ounce kicked off of their ribs and launched himself to the ground. Finally, he was free! Silver looked a little surprised and concerned, but they quickly relaxed when he seemed to be okay.
Ounce did not have much in the way of manners, and he immediately hopped over to Spectre and touched her cheek with his paw. He made a soft sound and tilted his head curiously.
