It had been quite a while since Renathan had been out and about. He was so busy with the influx of work, and of course he was in-between apprentices so he was having to do all of the work by himself. He did enjoy the work, but it was very easy to burn out doing nothing but that for long periods of time. He wanted to spend some time out and about doing something more novel than work; so he decides to run by the Quest Board after work one day. He was very close to being done with the last of his projects, so he hoped to get some time off to be able to do a quest or two if he could manage. Auburn sat on his shoulder and sang into the sweltering air of Summer as the russet mammalian scrutinized the available quests so close to the end of the month. [1]

Renathan really needed to stop pushing so late into the month before deciding to take on a quest. It was a bad habit of his, and of course all of the 'good ones' were always gone by that point. Or perhaps there were never any good ones to be had in the first place. By good he of course meant something that would conform to his own skill set, of which he felt it was quite extensive at this point. The last few he had taken had felt a little simple, and it looked like it was going to be the same this month as well. He tilts his head as he looks over the offerings, most of them on rather simple pieces of paper. A few folks looking for help with their gardens or lawns, a few people looking for training assistance. He pats his familiar on her head whenever she bumps her crown beneath his jaw. "Chill out, Auburn!" He chuckles. She had a bad habit of distracting him! [2]

Auburn makes a few soft noises as she rubbed against him a tad more like a cat than the Izer that she was. "Alright, alright, chill out chickadee." He murmurs, trying to draw his attention back to the quests so that he could make his selection. Instead of continuing to agonize over his choice, he decides to snatch up the first one that caught his attention or that seemed fun in any sort of a manner. After going over half of the remaining ones (there were quite a few for the end of a month, perhaps people were really enjoying that summer sunshine for recreational purposes!) he does find one that tickles his fancy a tad. It is a rather nice looking notice, despite being printed upon rather typical paper. Something about it draws his eyes, and he is quite surprised it was not the first one that he'd laid his eyes on at that.

According to the interesting slip of paper, there was a theater troupe in town. It was not one that Renathan was at all familiar with, and he'd been a denizen of the city for several years by this point. He was certain he should have heard about them in passing by now- he did run a Cafe, after all. He heard a lot of small talk among patrons, and some of his patrons were rather interconnect in the higher societies in the city. Arguably, he had a few 'friends' that would have certainly known about them had they had a name for theirselves. If they had been a popular group, he would not have been at all interested in going at all. The question was answered in the document itself. Apparently they were a New Group. "A new theater group, Auburn. What do you think?" He asks the fluffy bird rhetorically.

Auburn trills out of habit back at him in response, though of course she did not understand what he was saying. She really was an important comfort to him, he thought as he gave her another pat on her neck scruff. He fished a frozen seed out from his pocket and gently fed one to her. "You're a little hot, aren't you sweetie?" She always was in the summer swelter. "Hopefully it cools down tonight." He coos back at her as she takes the frozen seed in her beak, letting it chill her down some. She never really fared well, and it was running his electric bill up to keep the house cool enough for her. "Well, it seems like the Questing Association is giving out something to go see this group, and it doesn't sound like too much work." He wasn't sure if he was going to like going, but he didn't see a reason not to.

This wasn't really a quest that would require work, so he decides that it is the one for him. He goes in to accept the quest, and then makes sure to memorize where the production would be held. It didn't say anything about not bringing a pet or two with him, so he decided to go ahead and take Auburn. He often did not take her with him whenever he went places, and it tired them both out for him to perform the ritual, and it stressed Auburn out to be away from him for too long. He didn't see a reason to stress them both out over it, and she would be quiet he was sure. It turned out that the production was going to be that night. It was a rather short notice, so he hurried home to go ahead and get ready. Auburn seemed pleased to be home and plops herself down in front the nearest fan.

Renathan spent the next hour or so doing all of his errands around the farm, and then he goes to take a shower before fixing himself something simple to eat. Feeling refreshed from his hard day at work, he was ready to go out and do something fun. He hoped that it would be quite fun to watch whichever production was being put on. "Well, Auburn- what sort of production do you think we are going to see?" Auburn sits up from her position in front of the fan and tilts her head at him, regarding him with bright silver eyes. Renathan raises the window and sticks his head out, looking over the grounds. It was still warm out, but there was a stiff pleasant breeze out. "It seems to be cooling down out!" He was quite relieved. "You ready to go, Auburn?"
She heard the word 'go' and that was all there was to it!

Auburn was always excited to hear the word 'go'. She hops straight up and chirrups at him, flapping her wings. Renathan smiles beneath the mask at the display; she was always so cute! She really did make him feel better, since he tended towards melancholy more and more often these days. He backs up and closes the window before calling her to his shoulder. He'd selected his best waist summer sash for today, since he was going out on the town. He glances down at the paper that he had received upon accepting the 'quest' so that he can figure out where the play was being held. After inputting it into his WATT he pulled up a map and then started out the front door, locking it behind him.
"Oh, this isn't too far away, Auburn!" He says. She trills from her position on his shoulder. How serendipitous that was for him!

Night was already beginning to fall by the time Renathan got off of his own property. The walk was an enjoyable one, in the velveteen night. The sky was as clear as Renathan could ever hope for, though the City was growing more and more brightly lit every year and it was beginning to make it incredibly difficult to see the stars. Still, nothing could bring him down tonight he thought, and that was quite abnormal. He wanted to make the best of it. He would speak to Auburn off and on, and she would trill back. It was a companionable feeling without having to worry about social niceties for once and that was incredibly abnormal for him to be able to enjoy with the nature of his work.
Once he made it to the venue he was only slightly surprised to see how many people were there in line. "Wow, looks like a hit?" He told Auburn, beneath his breath.

It took quite a while for the line to recede back into the door, and there were quite a few people lined up behind Renathan by the time that he got to the door. He was quite glad that he came in a little earlier than he had planned on doing, because the production was already beginning to start by the time he got sat down in the darkness, Auburn sitting on his shoulder. He was quite pleased that there were a few other people with their small pets around, and though he was seated in a section for such, he didn't hear a lot of pets making noise over the production during the process. The production itself was quite good, though Renathan wasn't as keen on the love story at the center of it. He felt more chemistry between the actors for the villain and the hero as opposed to the hero and the love interest!
The night wasn't a bust, however. He did get the dates for the next production, and he couldn't wait to see it.
