Naieth didn’t stray very far to find the spot that she wanted to dig in. She moved next to Leafy’s area, carving out her own place while keeping close. Naieth had been the girl’s mining partner for as long as she could remember. Digging came easily to the halfbreed. It was in her blood, in her very nature. Leafy had taught her all she knew about digging even if the girl had an unconventional way of training. Leafy gave the halfbreed an enthusiastic wave as she dug in her own space. In the future, Naieth assumed they would split up to cover more ground, but for now it was nice to spend time with the person that she worked in such easy tandem with. She focused on her own digging now. The ground was simple enough to dig through, but spotting anything of value might be a little more difficult with the abundance of dirt. [Square 22]

Show name: Walk a Mile Call name: Miles Gender: Male Species: Common Houluh Level: 20 [1/5] Loyalty: 42 [2/5] -stats- Stamina: 2 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 5 Special Abilities: None Moves: Bite Training Tricks Known: Name (1), Heel (1), Come (1), Search (2), Sit (1), Stay (1), Hold (1), Drop (1), Lay Down (1), Combat Crawl (2), Race (3) Never let it be said that Kadin wasn't willing and able to take up odd jobs around the labs for no other reason that it needed to be done and there might be treasure involved. It'd probably be nicer if he was doing this just out of the goodness of his heart, but once rumors had come up that there were trinkets to be found while searching the area, he couldn't help himself but want to see if he could find anything, too. And, since it wouldn't hurt to bring along a companion for their venture, he struck up with Miles by his side, a trusty companion if he'd ever had one. Kadin made his way across the grounds, looking around at all the other people who had brought their gear to help dig up the area. He himself had brought along his mining equipment, which only seemed appropriate considering that he was digging stuff up, even the more delicate instruments just in case there was anything else here to find. He wandered along the paths, searching for areas that were still untouched, until he found a likely area. "Well, this is probably fine." He said conversationally to his houluh. He nodded to Miles and commanded him to go out and "Search!" whatever he could find while he himself did the bulk of the labor. The houluh could find things pretty well, after all, and Kadin figured that if Miles did find something he could just dig up whatever it was behind him. So the two of them wandered the plots he'd decided on, digging together as a team to unearth.... Well, dirt mostly. [Square 25 and 14]

Disguising manual labor as a treasure hunt.. What an intriguing prospect. The leopard, it was call for aid all the same- just one that happened to be highly effective at skirting the need for paid work. The rewards in place of monetary gain were enticing enough that he could excuse the fact that he was indeed doing manual labor though. And thinking on it, this wasn't too different from his ventures through the cavernous earth where he sought out natural treasures for himself. He even brought his favored digging companion; a stony gargoyle named Varus. The familiar seemed to squint its hollowed eyes in the light of day as it skulked after the warden. Unhappy clacks of its beak complained to the man's back. Xentus could only pass it an apologetic glance over his shoulder in return as they walked. "This one knows it is not your favored environment, Varus", the man started as he eventually found himself an unoccupied plot, "So let us not dawdle for long" The crystal torch he brought with him was plunged into the earth to mark his presence, then he began shoveling at the ground. "Dig, Varus", the leopard told his ward, pointing with his snout to the untamed earth nearby. The gargoyle fluttered over and cast the man a wary look, then began its work.

Flare
The river can leave a chill in your bones, even if one leg is wooden. He'd figure out a sustainable way of keeping himself and his carnivores fed at some rate or another that didn't involve handouts or magical lumps of meat. Fending off an excited Grendel for her breakfast as he broke up a clump of fall berries into her meal. She's already been told to be quiet but that doesn't stop her from the bouncing around, trying to put her nose in the gap of his elbow and his torso, sniffing eagerly. She was hungry, ready for her dinner. It disappears as soon as he puts it down. The sunlight has been good this summer, the fall berries are plump and taste sweet, as Flare tries one, crushing a berry between his teeth. What was his plan for today? On his way home from the river, there were signs posted up about a scavenger hunt. Bring your best digger and tools, and come turn over some dirt for prizes. That was interesting. And Grendel hadn't been out recently. She'd love to do this. The lot is already full of diggers as he comes in, and takes a square for himself, and finds another for Grendel to dig in for herself. She's pulling on the leash madly, so eager to start. {Dig here Grendel.} he tells her. And she goes to town. Literally.

The Fairgrounds were reopened! It was all the rage at Renathan's establishment, all anyone was talking about all day. He was excited; mostly because he wanted to have another crack at looking for artifacts. He really loved to mine, and it wasn't much different from mining; at least in the physical aspect. Auburn came with him as he walked up to area as soon as he could go home after work and grab himself a shovel. He marked out a couple of places to claim for himself to start out (that way there were no possibilities for confusion about the work); one for himself and one for Auburn.
As soon as he was able, he points to the spot he wanted Auburn to check out, and then he gives her the command to search the area. She got to work immediately; she loved to play and they hadn't had the chance to do any sort of training or playing in a long time. As for himself, he made for the other marked plot (not one he would have selected had he looked at it previously; it was on the edge of the space!) and he got to work. He wasn't quite used to shovel work anymore, but he had all the determination in the world.[Square 12 for Renathan, Square 24 for Auburn]

Auburn wasn't entirely sure where she was supposed to check, though she had a good idea that she should stay in this designated area due to the bond she shared with Renathan. She knew that she was supposed to search though, so as soon as she was given the command she'd rushed off to look in the grass for something. After looking at all of the grass, she glanced around with confusion; trying to find Renathan to try to figure out some kind of information on what she was supposed to be doing. That was when she remembered something that they'd done before; something where she had to scratch the best she good at the ground. She glances around for any indication of anything of interest, and after seeing something that she deemed Shiny (they found shinies quite often before!) she rushes off to scratch at The Shiny.
While Auburn was doing that in her spot, Renathan was breaking his back digging with a shovel. He was determined to do his best!

Oh, this again, eh? Fiera practically dashed back to the kennels to find some equipment and a pet to drag along with her when she saw the fairgrounds- and their excavations- starting up again. She had found a VERY pretty trinket there last time, and the humanish was excited to see what else she could dig up. Icarus was a little less thrilled as he fluttered along behind her. The weather was finally getting to his liking so he enjoyed the outdoors adventure, but he wasn’t thrilled about the manual labor. “Seriously? We couldn’t have done anything else today?” He said. Fiera just waved him off. “Oh hush, you. We’ll get pretty things out of this! You like pretty things!” “Wh- no I don’t!” Icarus shouted back in response. “That’s YOU!” “Oh, is it?” Fiera mused, only half listening as she picked out a spot. “Well whatever. Here- I’ll start digging here, and you try that spot, ok?” She said, pointing. The Harachiu looked out over the expanse, past the other diggers. “…Ugh. Fine. He huffed, picking up the chisel she had leant him as a sort of makeshift Harachiu shovel. Fiera of course had a real one, and she wasted no time in getting to work. Linyü digs in lot #2:

The digging festivities have barely begun, when something with a slightly different shade of brown seems to become uncovered from all the dirt - a wooden, carved form of a bear (or a cat. Or a fox. The maker apparently wasn't opposed to artistic interpretation), in a bit more pieces than one, but otherwise in fairly good condition. It seems labour - manual or otherwise - has come through today! The historical society overseers are quite taken back to see a find so soon, and some even manage to spill their thermoses in a rush to get up from the chair they had only just settled into. With a quick-paced step they come over to the find, coffee stains and all, and crowd over the object for several minutes, voices overlapping one another as they seem to discuss this theory and that.. Was it a prehistoric toy? Or some centuries after? Had it been made by some great philosopher of old, or been given to some princeling of a bygone era? Suddenly there's silence, as one of them gently turned the little toy around. No.. The toy's back clearly bears a woodburned mark of a local woodworker.. Certainly, the design of the toy is about ten years old, but not old enough for historic research (As one of the overseers seems to suddenly proclaim they might have even had one in their youth). Dejected, they hand the object back and slink away, some forlornly wiping the futile stain from their shirt. Ah well.. At least the toy wasn't alone, as not far from it in the dirt sits a pretty shiny coin! Probably worth at least a good 15 points at the Booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Linyü has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Rei digs in lot #3:

The find doesn't seem to remain the only one, as not too long after the hara also spots something blue and quite shiny in the dirt! Not so shiny as the pale coin, but still worth a nice 9 points at the Booth!
( Rei has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Ashe digs in lot #45:

There's excitement in the air as each little speck of colour from the dirt could spell a wonderful find! Alas, the more the hole is shifted through, the more the spots of colour seem to be just plain old granite stones. Looks like there isn't anything in this one, but perhaps somewhere else?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Ashe has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Inyala digs in lot #46:

Now this one Antelmo seemed quite perplexed about. Those little fey things he'd seen before, but he'd never seen.. well, what this little creature was. It almost seemed like a grimmer version of the fey-folk (And if that was true, he knew better than to vex them!) However, despite the little imp's best efforts, there doesn't seem to be anything here either.. At least it's quite tenacious for such a small creature!
( Inyala has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Sevyrn digs in lot #39:
Right day, right time, right place? Well, it's not quite an artefact (Nevermind nothing has been so far, much to the historical society's dismay) but something yellow, almost golden, seems to peek through the dirt at the edge of the plot. Of course, it's made of glass, so it not gold at all, but still worth, oh, say.. 3 points at the booth?
Along with the find, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Sevyrn has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Bez digs in lot #40:
The ghaenelt is indeed well suits to the task, and the plot is dismantled in a matter of moments! In all the fury to dig, a small little speck of green is almost thrown out with the rest of the dirt! But fortunately it lands in a pile of dirt in plain view. A much richer and deeper colour, this kind of coin could net 6 points at the booth!
( Bez has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Silver digs in lot #26:
The hills are a live with.. treasure? Well, not quite, but it sure is green and shiny! Also a little dirt-speckled, but nothing a little water, or cloth or.. spit.. wouldn't cure. Regardless of the cleaning method, probably worth a nice 6 points at the booth!
Along with the find, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Silver has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Kylma digs in lot #36:

The claws rake through the earth at terrible speeds, almost seeming to do the work of two people! Such speeds are impressive, but when a sudden CRACK sound as one paw digs in, several people around the area suddenly freeze - Some in horror (Was something broken?!), some in fascination (Did someone find something?), others in worrisome concerns (Oh gods, please let it not be anything important..). That last thought might have been singular to the ungulate alone, especially as he watches the historical society overseers suddenly rush the site and inspect the cap of.. something, sticking out of the hole. Fortunately, it seems the creature's claws had only dented a particularly hardy stone near the object, leaving it unscathed. As the overseers lift it out, there's sounds of 'oooh's and 'aaah's as they realize it to be a scroll. A scroll! What wondrous secrets this could hold? What ancient knowledge? Historical writings! Eyewitness accounts! A bespectacled member of the historic crew steps forwards and, with shaking hands, begins to unfurl it, to see what the first rows of writing are.. A solemn silence follows, most of the crew barely breathing.. And then the historian looks up to the others, bottom lip giving a small quiver, and shakes their head. Not a historical artifact.. merely a production for a stage play.. a prop and nothing more (And not even that old of a play, dating only some years back). The item is returned, and the rest of the crew give solemn pats on the shoulder to the poor historian. But in the distance, an ungulate breathes a sigh of relief!
( Kylma has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Lethalia digs in lot #28:
Ah, the sights! The sounds! The dirt! The.. crowds? Well, at least three out of four seems familiar. And who wouldn't miss dirt? Piles and piles and piles of it, every inch carefully shifted through! But fortunately, not without reward! Towards the bottom part of the hole, there's suddenly a glint of green in the sunlight, as a glass coin is unearth. Ah yes, and the treasures! (Especially the treasures). Not a historic find, but worth a nice 6 points at the booth regardless!
Along with the find, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Lethalia has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Estelle digs in lot #13:
It does boggle the ungulate how tenacious some of these creatures can be, despite so small a size! And he certainly can't fault the spirit! He just hopes that whatever the faeron finds has a chance to be inspected first, before scurried away.. Whether luck or misfortune, depending on how one looked at it, it seems this specific plot doesn't hold anything of interest, however.
( Estelle has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Leafy digs in lot #21:
Piles and piles and piles of it.. The dirt seems never-ending, but fortunately there's no need to dig to the bottom of the world (Although that would certainly be an interesting archaeological experiment!) Alas, there doesn't seem to be much else here, but perhaps treasures yet remain hidden elsewhere?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Leafy has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Naieth digs in lot #22:
Ah! Another returning digger! Antelmo might have trouble with the faces of the people, but he can certainly recognize familiar beasts! And as he remembered it, this one was quite the beast at digging too! The familiar has little issue clearing the plot, although there doesn't seem to be anything worth note in it, aside some pieces of old confetti (But not THAT old).
( Naieth has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Kadin digs in lot #25:
Dirt.. and shinies! Although by no simple means. It takes a while of digging, before the golden sheen of something sunny seems to peek through some of the layers. Not an artifact, but a pretty little piece, even if a little common-looking. Still, worth a nice 3 points at the booth.
Along with the find, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Kadin has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Miles digs in lot #14:
Suns out, coins out? Well, not quite as 'sunny' as the first one, but certainly looks a lot more valuable! It's a good thing they're pretty resistance to being chewed upon, as this iridescent piece of pretty can net a good 15 points at the booth.
( Miles has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Xentus digs in lot #4:
The light of the torch flickers off of a lot of things.. but mostly just the usual bounty of Mother Earth (Or rather, Mother Dirt, as it were). There doesn't seem to be anything here, though perhaps another area?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Xentus has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Varus digs in lot #11:
This patch of the grounds seems tougher to dig through than the rest, and it seems that might have contributed to there being little else to find here - With so tough a layer, it's unlikely to have been disturbed in ages, if ever. Ah well, plenty other spaces to search, though!
( Varus has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Flare digs in lot #30:

The dirt is almost as cold as the river water, and only half as clingy. The autumn season is certainly not doing anyone favours, but at least the work gets done! Even so, good things come to those who dig (Or, well, most of them at least. Something like that.. The ungulate would have to work on his metaphors). A patch of dirt falls away from the hole wall and reveals something bring, blue.. and.. green as well? If one didn't know any better, it could almost be the tone of the azurian oceans! Such vibrance, such brilliance! The historical society overseers quickly come over, though not quite as many as before (It seems some are purposely holding back, perhaps to avoid further heartbreak?) and pick up the small bottle. The glass it clear, if not dirty, but they carefully turn it around to watch the powder within shift and change. Oh! Is this some long lost pigment? A form of colour we have since forgotten how to make? The solution to so many an art mystery as to the vibrancy of ancient works? But no.. One of the overseers wipes their thumb across the label, and it reads a simple, innocent: "Seaglass Green. Shades of Tumai collection. Produced by Arte Co." There's even an address in small print on the bottom, and each of the overseers realizes with growing disappointment they've all probably been to the store there to purchase in and map materials in the past. Returning the item, they leave, but not before a scuff of one's boot manages to unearth a nifty little coin. Not something for their interests, of course (Too plain! Too new!) but Antelmo would certainly be interested in offering 15 points for it at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Flare has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Grendel digs in lot #47:
Perhaps the town could have used some sparing, since there's certainly a lot of dirt around, but not much finds beyond that. Hey, at least that other corner had enough to make up for it, tho!
( Grendel has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Renathan digs in lot #12:
The shovel work is certainly impressive! Alas, it seems there isn't anything of interest to be found in this particular spot. Perhaps another one has more luck?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Renathan has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Auburn digs in lot #24:
Where one side seems vacant of anything neat, there's something hidden among all the grass tufts and dirt in the other spot. Almost blending into the red and orange of the season, the creature's able to find a shiny red coin! Quite rich-looking, it's doesn't quite have the pull or iridescence as some of the other coins, but worth a good 12 points at the booth none the less!
( Auburn has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Fiera digs in lot #35:
The air is nice, the weather pleasant, and the work goes well! However, the only thing missing seems to be any specific finds.. Ah, well! Perhaps another spot has more luck?
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Fiera has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Icarus digs in lot #27:
Ah! Another of the fey folk, though not one that Antelmo has thought to have seen before. And what fascinating method to dig! The ungulate watches with quite a fair amount of amazement as the small hara digs with chisel alone.. But unfortunately the hard work doesn't see a reward this time. Perhaps, the next?
( Icarus has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
OOC - Some notes about the event!
- If you found a Goodie Bag, you can open them by just making a post doing so! What you find will be PM'd to you
Each bag is one use, however, so once it's opened, it will be gone (But you'll have some other goodies instead). These goodies are little seasonal extras, and don't otherwise affect the point calculation or progress.
- Returning participants: Remember to include all previously found items you have on your characters in an inventory at the bottom of your posts!
If it's not in the inventory, it can't be traded at the booth!
- Due to the, ah.. rather unexpected popularity of the event, I've extended the current map slightly, as well as greatly increased the size of the next one, to accommodate the participating player count xD;
It should allow newer players more chances to catch up, while making a lot more points available overall. So if you think you might be seeing things, not to worry - The extra row is entirely intentional. (Some refreshing of the page to reload the new map might be required).
- With that, second round (and probably last, for this map) of digging rolls is a-go!

Auburn was still scratching around in the dirt around the 'shiny' thing she had glimpsed (who knew whether or not it was a rock? Certainly not her, and certainly not Renathan- who was busy in his own relatively distant plot) Renathan was drawing up a blank in his own plot. It didn't seem like there was a lot to be found here at all in this spot! He moved within the space delineated hither, and then thither, and then finally decided that there wasn't much to be done with his shovel. He props the shovel up wedged between the grass and his elbow. He wasn't too concerned- there would be other places to work (though he was quite late, there were so many people out there already) in the future. Instead, as he is cleaning up to go check out Auburn soon enough, he finds a bag sitting innocuously on the ground. He glances left, and then right; and then he plucks up the bag and opens it up with great curiosity. [Post 3] [Renathan is opening up the Goodie-Bag]

Well.. This wasn't the most enthralling activity. The leopard shoveled away at the earth, finding that the job was admittedly far less exciting than spelunking about a cavern - much to his dismay. He took a pause to catch his breath and look around the plot of desolate land. Quite a few people had arrived to take up on the ungulate's ad for help, along with their companions. Nobody nearby his selected spot of dirt seemed very familiar though, not that he was looking too hard. Xentus decided to keep mostly to himself for the time being, moving off to shovel at some more earth elsewhere. Ah, but not before he checked up on the gargoyle. Varus had dug as it was told, finding nothing of interest. Nothing tipped off its innate sense for the earth here. Bland. Caves were far better for digging in. More stuff. But now the warden comes. The gargoyle perked up and did its best to look presentable despite being coated in muck, staring at the leopard with its hollow eyes as the man approached. A bright orange pouch is clutched in his hands, striking some curiosity from the familiar. Where did that come from? Not even Xentus knew. It lay nearby his spot, left all by its lonesome. He knelt down to open the bag within the gargoyle's view and took a gander at the contents within. A short reprieve before returning to work.

Leafy was a bit surprised to find that she had actually located something within the dirt of the area she had claimed. It was a small jack-o-lantern like object and looked as if it could be opened. She decided to stow it away for now, slightly startled to find that she had already found some items that she had forgotten about. She certainly wasn’t going to complain about having already found some treasure. Even if she didn’t quite remember how she had gotten it. For now, she decided to pick a new area to start digging in. She gestured for Naieth to split up with her. It was clear that there wasn’t anything left to be found where they were. They traveled down to the unclaimed areas. She picked one that was a few squares away from the edge of the plot and Naieth meandered a bit further than her. With that they both began to dig in their respective areas. [Squares 53, 56]

"There," came the soft voice, moments before a cry came up from the gathered archaeologists. San straightened, blinking, wide-eyed and startled at the enthusiastic response, ducking out of the way with a slight stumble and yelp as the overseers snatch up an item -- no, a series of items -- from the dirt. Rei glanced at him, ears canted at a slightly lower angle, but he merely gave her a sheepish grin in response. It had been very strange for her, he thought, when she had first begun accompanying him around town. In Ningjing, she generally didn't accompany him on jobs where he had to be undercover for more than short spans of time, and the adjustment had been, if not uncomfortable, at least a little unsettling. Now she was a little more used to it, but apparently it still discomfited her to see him at an apparent loss, and this was the most he could do to reassure her.

As the overseers murmured amongst themselves, Rei fluttered closer, tugging at his sleeve. He held out a hand, a little bemused; she deposited two small coins onto his palm, each a different color. San's gaze slid over the archaeologists, but they didn't seem to take any interest in these trinkets. These were for the... booth then.
"Thanks," he said, his smile softening by degrees. Rei nodded once, and flew back up. By that point the crowd around his digging area was dispersing, with an air of palpable disappointment. Adopting a puzzled look, San returned to the site and picked up the abandoned pieces of a wooden bear carving. It was old, but clearly not as old as an archaeologist would hope. He couldn't think of anything to do with it, but he tucked it away in the bag he had brought nevertheless. Maybe it would come in handy either... or maybe Seveth would find something to do with it.

In the time it had taken them to excavate their little area, the place had filled up with even more people, and now the only part of the plot still unturned was at the far side. Picking up his shovel, San made his way over. Rei flew on, understanding at once what his destination was. She had picked out a spot by the time he arrived, having covered the distance more quickly in the air. If she had some logic behind her choice of place, she didn't share it, though in this case it hardly mattered. San certainly wouldn't be perturbed if they didn't find anything much. There was payment, of a sort, simply for participating, and he hadn't expected to find much of value when he had taken the job in the first place.
He struck his shovel into the dirt, and began the process of excavating the new patch of dirt.

After a period of digging, he straightened again, taking a moment to rest. He was in much better shape now than he had been when he first arrived at the city, but his body wasn't used to this kind of labor; what he did understand was how to pace himself, so that he didn't overtire too quickly.
Still, Seveth would probably complain of new soreness tomorrow.
"Linyü, here," said Rei. Following her voice, he came upon her standing on the ground next to a small orange bag. Was this part of the game too? As he picked it up, Rei followed it into the air, and a small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. It seemed as though Rei, at least, was having fun, which rendered the whole endeavor worthwhile.
"Let's open it together," he said, holding it out as he drew it open so that she could look inside.
