[ Nadia] Nadia was... late to the party, as per usual, but she would've liked to think fashionably so. The news about the dig had reached her through the grapevine, and she'd turned up with some equipment borrowed from her mine stash. She wasn't surprised to see a myriad of familiar faces getting to work too.Other people had brought companions. Would that have been a more sensible choice...? She supposed that it would've lightened the load, but the worry about what exactly was found beneath the earth frayed at her nerves. What if she brought someone along and they ended up eating something dangerous? No, no - until she had scoped out the area, she was happy to go it alone. The only thing left to do was to pick a spot. Ah, the plot was so wide, it was difficult to narrow it down...At last, she chose her place, and stabbed her shovel into the earth.[Square 11]

There was a brief moment of quiet respite as San dug through the plot he and Rei had chosen. The patch of dirt he turned over was empty, but then Rei called to him, and indicated something to one side of him -- and the archaeologists flooded in, then flooded out again.
Linyü laughed awkwardly at the ungulate's offer, promising to think about it. What that man wanted with these things, San could only wonder. Rei, too, was watching as the ungulate went on his way; then, quietly and in Xin, she said, "There aren't really any artifacts here, are there?"
"Probably not," San replied. But their job was only to dig, so it didn't affect them much, one way or the other.
It didn't take long for the assembled workers to clear out the plot that they'd been working in, now that there were so many, and there was a moment of respite as refreshments were brought out.

Linyü gratefully accepted a cup of tea, sipping on it slowly as he sat cross-legged on the ground, mindless of the state of his clothes. He had taken only one cookie, and now he split it with Rei. She liked sweets, though on the whole, the desserts here tended to be too sugary for his own palate. He was forced to be genuinely grateful for the tea to wash it down. This wasn't what he was used to drinking at home either, but it was more agreeable -- still bitter, and still caffeinated.
But then, perhaps it was for the best that the taste didn't remind him of home.
Eventually a new plot was marked out for digging, and from the snatches of conversation San could catch, this was to be the last. San picked up his shovel and headed over, while Rei flew alongside, rather than scouting ahead as she had done earlier.

They were a little slow to arrive, and other diggers had already marked out their own spots, but the plot of land here was much larger than the one before, and there was still plenty of unbroken earth. The plots were marked off with numbers, presumably to keep things organized, and his eyes were drawn immediately to the ones marked 3 and 4, side by side.
Rei followed his gaze, and San braced himself for whatever she might say once he noticed her observation, but nothing came. She simply fluttered over and looked back at him, waiting for him to join her. He sighed, a little relieved despite himself, and walked over to drive the point of his shovel into the dirt.
It didn't matter, of course. They were just numbers, and he was twenty-three this year, and he was fine. He was... He wasn't going to have a meltdown here, in a public place, on account of such a small thing. It spoke to how bad things had been, perhaps, that Rei had been worried for him on account of this -- or perhaps a guilty, defensive sense of paranoia, if she hadn't worried for him at all. But untangling those thoughts was less preferable to drumming them out of his head with the steady rhythm of work. In fact, it was less preferable to almost anything else he could think of.

Digging was something that Leafy looked forward to. She’d found a lot of treasure now and she’d aim to find a bit more before she considered trading some things in. Now that there was a larger area to explore, Leafy found herself having a little bit of difficulty deciding where she wanted to dig. She squinted against the sunlight, finding the glare excessively bright for a sun that was so low in the sky. She and Naieth decided to split up once again. Leafy headed closer to the front of the plot while Naeith strayed further towards the middle. They held eye contact for a while until they both decided to try their luck at digging. Leafy was glad that she had a shovel to assist her. It certainly made the grunt work a bit easier to perform. Naieth was quick to get into the groove of things as well. They were both eager to see if there was anything buried in the areas they had chosen. [Squares 14, 54]

Ah.. The combined effort of the leopard and gargoyle was coming up dry still. Xentus didn't mind all too much, though he was rather curious to see what everyone else here had found. He wasn't opposed to letting his gaze linger on those nearby for an extended moment as an object was found. Colored coins were the most common unearthed item. Other trinkets were few and far between. A solid hum escaped the leopard's throat as he satisfied his curiosity. After the duo's digging was done, cookies and tea were in order as a reward and break from the manual labor. Varus found no interest in the amenities despite the leopard's offering. Xentus shrugged and helped himself, sitting on the earth and watching the other helpers move about for a while. -- And of course, the feline found himself out on the newly opened plot of earth, scoping out a new spot to shovel through. The gargoyle wasn't nearly as keen as the warden, but followed after him out of principal. "This one thinks this a good spot..", the man mumbled to his companion, "Dig nearby, Varus." He pointed the stone familiar to a nearby flag, then began his work.

Ashe digs in lot #99:
The hole doesn't even need to be that deep, until something green flashes! It's just a glass coin, though.. But still worth some 6 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Ashe has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Inyala digs in lot #100:
The imp's tiny hands might take a while to clear this plot, but alas, there doesn't seem to be anything here to find.
( Inyala has earned their owner 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Silver digs in lot #32:
The trowel might not match up to a shovel in speed, but it makes for more precision, it seems! Two coins, both of them tinted a bright green, come up from the dirt. Each would fetch a nice 6 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Silver has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kylma digs in lot #42:

The claws of the halfbreed seem made for this relatively soft ground! The creature is able to tear through it in no time.. until something clinks up against them.. The noise is quick to attract attention and soon enough, the murmur of people nearby attracts the attention of the historians. In a swarm they come buzzing over again, much as before, and crowd around the find with questions filling the air. What's this, then? A game piece? Made from stone? Oh! The potential! Oh! The possibilities! If only it were old enough! The excitement of the historians is enough to make the ungulate on the sidelines visibly nervous. But the buzzing dies down, the more the object is observed, and the betraying factor is a simple mark scratched into the bottom of the game piece - Looks like it's just a wayward project from the Workshop, so nothing as old as that. Disappointed, the historians return the object and slink away again.
( Kylma has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kadin digs in lot #2:
There's certainly some interesting geological formations in the sediment layer of this area, but sadly nothing else in this plot. Good thing there's many more places to try, though!
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Kadin has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Miles digs in lot #22:
Even the houluh's keen senses have a tough time finding anything in this plot, or perhaps it's just the distractions of the buzz around? Either way, doesn't seem like there's anything of interest here.
( Miles has earned their owner 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Renathan digs in lot #66:

The earth churns easily around these parts, seeming much softer than the plot from before. So much so that when something snags on the shovel, it could almost be mistaken for a root. But no! There's a sheen beneath all the dirt, and when pulled out, reveals itself to be a brilliant piece of fabric. Is it silk? It's hard to tell with the dirt, but the colours haven't entirely faded. The historians quickly crowd over, cautious and optimistic in turn, some of them even giddy. Fabric finds are rare, for they easily decompose and fall away.. but under the right conditions, with moist enough soil able to keep oxygen away? Oh my! What secrets such a find could unlock on the trade routes of old, of fabrication techniques! Colour works! The historians crowd the area for some time, feeling the tensile stretch of the piece, measuring the sheen up against the light, trying to determine the frailty of the object.. And then one of them brushes away a bit of dirt in the corner, to reveal a simple clothing tag. The faces sag, the moods sour, and the historians return the item - It seems it's nothing more than modern fabrication. Not too far from it, a different kind of sheen reveals a coin, as well. The iridescent colours are quite amazing to look at, and it would surely be worth some 15 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Renathan has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Auburn digs in lot #69:

There most certainly is a shiny! The shiniest of shinies, if only it were made of real gold.. Still, worth a nice 3 points at the booth.
( Auburn has earned their owner 3 point at the Booth for their work! )
Nadia digs in lot #11:
Better late than never! It takes some time, but looks like the choice was well made, as a glass coin tumbles from the dirt, tinted a brilliant ocean blue. Probably worth some 9 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Nadia has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Linyü digs in lot #3:
Whatever the magic of numbers might be, it seems they spell some good luck! An emerald coin is unearthed in all the dirt, worth a nice 6 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Linyü has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Rei digs in lot #4:
The hara certainly needs to spend some more time digging up the other side, but it seems the magic started and ended with the one coin, as there isn't much else here.. Ah well, perhaps another square?
( Rei has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Leafy digs in lot #14:
The glare of the sun is only made worse when something sun-like seems to reflect it from the middle of the dirt.. Oh wait, no, that's actually a yellow coin! A little dirty, but still worth some 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Leafy has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Naieth digs in lot #54:

There doesn't seem to be anything at first.. but then those diamond claws scratch up against something much more solid than soil and rocks. Something bends beneath them, and when revealed, looks to be an old brass necklace, slightly broken. Once more the historians crowd over, wishing to take a closer look at this object, hope shining in their eyes all the stronger over the design of it. This could be it! An ancient artifact of the Bronze Age! Or perhaps later? The Brass Age? There was no Brass Age, please.. Well none the less, perhaps an indication of an earlier culture, upon which all other cultures were laid over in the region? After all, the Labs hardly made themselves the centre of the continent without something to already exist to pull travellers and tradesmen alike to the area. The discussion ends up almost on the verge of an argument (herein referred to as 'academic debate') when the historians notice something off. Namely that the weight of the object doesn't quite feel like metal.. Inspecting the break they discover a core of plastic, coated with metal. So.. only a reproduction, and a cheap one at that! Well no wonder it broke so easily.. They return the object and take their leave with hung heads.
( Naieth has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Xentus digs in lot #77:
Well, perhaps not the 'best' spot, as there doesn't seem to be much here.. But there's still plenty of space to explore!
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Xentus has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Varus digs in lot #88:
The gargoyle's little corner ends up much more favourable, as a blue coin tumbles out of the dirt. Bright and shiny.. and worth some 9 points at the booth.
( Varus has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )

[Silver opens a goodie bag.] While sifting around in the dirt, Silver picked up a couple more of those gemlike coins. They were used to buy something, right? They didn't exactly know, but they were sure they'd figure it out when the time came. If nothing else, they could always gift them to an unlucky stranger. As Silver considered their options, they noticed that the people buzzing around were taking interest in Kylma again. Had he found another weird trinket? Just like last time, the buzzing quickly died down, leaving Kylma sitting confused with his weird object. It wasn't particularly interesting, apparently. Silver had yet again frozen in place, waiting for the excitement to die down before going over to praise Kylma for doing a good job. "Hey you're pretty lucky, Ky," Silver said warmly. They held up a coin and said, "all I've found are these, but you found two... neat things, that's pretty good." Silver tossed him a treat and rubbed his now incredibly dirty fur. It was a shame that a creature who loved to dig so much also had very white fur. Finds: [130.95, 9]

Ashe found an odd green gem in his hole that he'd dug. He was rather excited, having finally dug something up! He didn't know what it was or what it would do, but he thought he'd seen glinting like this from other people around him, so it must be common. Not something that would alert the authorities and get anyone in trouble. He pocketed his find and checked on Inyqla- her hole was empty, but well dug. Too bad. He called her over to him and they decided to try another spot, this time Ashe thought they might do better splitting up. He directed her to her plot and- hey, a goodie bag! Ashe pocketed it, planning to open at a later time. He wanted to get digging some more, maybe find more of those colorful pieces! He dug the shovel into the dirt, energized by the knowledge that he wasn't completely bad luck. There were things in this dirt! He glanced over and saw Inyala working hard too.

It wasn't that San thought Rei would ask him about it. She wouldn't, just as he would never ask her about anything that had happened before she had met him, unless it was absolutely necessary or she volunteered the details herself first. It had been the unspoken rule among all the Watchful, but it had been put in place for good reason, and that reason still stood even if they were no longer a part of the organization that had indoctrinated it into them. Seveth had no such courtesy, but whatever his conversations with Rei, San knew nothing of them. And when Seveth asked him, San felt no need to dignify such questions with an answer.
But one couldn't work with someone so closely for such a long time without having developed some sort of understanding of them, and Rei in particular was observant. The blunted affect, some side effect of the experiments that the Watchful had conducted on her and her brethren, led most to dismiss her as simple and unthinking, but her perceptiveness had saved his life on more than one occasion.

Since they had come here, the brunt of that perceptiveness had been turned on him, and San found that he didn't want to know what it was she saw. He could sense her concern, much as she tried to be subtle with it, and in turn he had done his best to try and lessen it. That this had not worked weighed on him further, and now they were at an impasse.
The mindless work of digging left his thoughts to wander, but Rei caught the flash of color as he unearthed a coin, and called to him to stop. San knelt in the dirt and picked it up, brushing bits of sand and gravel from its surface. A pretty green color, with the same glassy look as the other coins, though the green in particular lent it the look of beer-bottle glass. He held it out so that Rei could look as well, and when she seemed satisfied, he put it away.
There were no more strange finds to be had in this part of the lot, however, and soon they were moving on to another.

Kylma chewed up his treat and immediately went back to sniffing around the dig site. This place was full of weird smells. Mostly of people and their creatures. That, he wasn't really interested in. People were boring and most creatures were bigger than him, so he preferred that they stay away. Though for some reason unknown to him, none of those huge predator monsters were hanging around this place. That was a relief at least. Silver followed Kylma and shoved all the goodies from before into their bag. That included another goodie bag whose contents shook out into the bottom of their messenger bag. Well, who knows if they would ever see any of that stuff again. Maybe it would come in handy some day, like so many of the other weird things they kept in there. Kylma liked the smell of one particular spot, so he began to tap at the dirt there. Silver had been letting him dig holes all over the place, but he didn't want to assume it was okay until given the prompt to do so. "Okay Ky, if you think that's a good one, go ahead and dig. Dig Ky, dig!" Silver said loudly and clearly. Then they decided they might as well get to work with their own spot of soft dirt nearby. They weren't as fast as some of these big, strong people around, but they had found enough to keep them entertained. [Squares 86 & 96] Finds: [131.15, 9.1]

Kadin headed back to the grounds to dig up some land with Miles in tow. He brought all the same equipment as before, not sure how confident he should be in whether or not he'd find something considering that the last time hadn't been the best showing. But as long as they was dirt to dig there wasn't any harm in him trying to dig it up, right? So they went out to do just that. This time he chose spots near the edge, hopefully further away from where other people would be digging. He chose a spot near the middle of the grounds himself and sent Miles off for some place closer to one of the corners. Between the two of them, surely they'd be able to find something out here. He had confidence in that. Miles took to the work with his typical enthusiasm as Kadin settled in to dig up whatever he might be able to find. [50 & 20]

There was something addicting about the digging. Nadia was back as soon as she was able, shovel in tow, ready to get going - and it would appear that she had a lot more focus this time. It wasn't going to take her ages to determine which patch to dig at! No way! ... It still took longer than she would've liked. The other diggers had been going in somewhat of a random pattern, leaving her hopping over already claimed spaces. Good job she wore working boots and trousers. Her shovel was slung over her shoulder as she surveyed, testing the earth with the toe of her shoe here and there, trying to establish which area called to her. Her choice was narrowed down to two at the far end of the field. "Which..." Eenie, meenie, miny, mo. A square further away from where she was stood was the victor. "This one it is." Renathan had only found coins up to the point that he had began work with the softer soil; and what a lovely set of coins he had! Each one had a lovely sheen to it, some of them a bit more so lovely than others. Auburn had found most of them herself; she was quite skilled at finding 'the shiny'. He had trained her to find things using rings in the past, so he was not shocked that she seemed to bring back coins whenever she found them. He thinks about the collection as he digs, thoroughly unaware of the whirlwind that was about to be his find when he first noticed the tiniest corner of silk poking out from the ground.
Alas, the find was surmised to be something newer; not really any sort of artifact. He'd heard that cloth was an abnormal find in the world of architects, and it made sense for that to be so. Alas! Upon the next chance, he selects to move over a single plot- one labeled 67. At about the same time, Auburn comes back to him- practically bouncing.[Selections: 67 & 68] [Post 8]
