"What did you find, Auburn?" Renathan asks, bending down to reach out. Something bright had glinted in her beak. She drops it right into his hand, apparently having surmised that this was what he wished, and he turns it over in his hand. Another coin! What luck! "Meir Gaessh, Auburn!" He praises her. The russet mammalian takes a moment to give her an ear scritch and a quick seed as a treat. He takes a moment to take her over to the plot on the other side of his; incidentally close to the one he'd started her in as well- one beside. "Alright, Auburn- again. F'rai!" At his command, the excitable Izer makes a little half-leap and flutter into the air before racing off once again to search this new plot.
At that, Renathan returns to his own selected plot, and he takes the shovel to it. He was quite excited to see what else could be dredged up with any luck!

Leafy found another one of those strange coins. She had found a lot of them at this point and wondered if she should trade them in at the booth soon. But for now, she decided she would carry on with digging. She checked in briefly with Naieth, delighted to discover that the creature had found something decidedly more exciting than she had. The thing was rather strange and Leafy had no clue what it was, but she stashed it with her other finds all the same. Once that had been sorted with, it was time to get back to digging. She and Naieth split up again. The strategy seemed to be working out better for them than simply sticking together had been. There were a few other people out and about working on their own plots. They weren’t of much concern to her. Leafy decided to pick a spot kind of near the middle, while Naieth strayed to the back of the area. Both then began to dig. [Squares 39, 93]

Its frankly tiring to attempt to dig with normal tools. How the rest of these people are managing, he has no idea. Grendel yips happily as she struck something fancy adn shiny. The human cluster of what seems to be watchers aren't interested in her find like they were on the jar he'd pulled up. Inside his goodie bag were a few cutsy items that he found of interest but was just a bit tired. Perhaps he'd try to scrape dirt away in the next square using magic rather then a shovel. Might as well apply it to be a useful thing to do. The shiny coin Grendel spat out at his feet is a very fancy looking item. Perhaps he can put it up on his shelf, or embed it like a magical crystal into his bonsai collection. Granny Crannie actually had something going there, but waking up to having his works trying to strnagle him? Draw the line there. Well, that last plot had been a bit of a bust. Fiera had managed to find a little Vai Min Mur themed goodie bag for her troubles, but she hadn't managed to find anything special that time. She hadn't even found one of those little coins that were so omnipresent around here. She didn't have the chance to try again either, as all of the plots had been dug up by that point. Archaeologists had ushered everyone away to try and make heads and tails of what the crowd had found, but they seemed... disappointed. Perhaps this wasn't turning out as informational as they had hoped. When the next plot opened up, people rushed in far faster than Fiera did, and by the time she managed to find a patch of dirt for her and Icarus to settle on, the others had already begun to work. "Yeesh. No need to rush, there's enough for everyone." She muttered under her breath as she and Icarus dug. "Weren't you the one saying that we needed to get in there 'right now before all the good stuff is gone'?" Icarus shot back. Fiera paused for a moment. "Nope! Don't remember saying that at all." She replied, flipping her hair. He just sighed. (Fiera and Icarus dig plots 5 and 6.) Inventory:

Ashe digs in lot #9:
Not just green things, but blue things too! While it's mostly made of glass, the colours have a striking beauty to them. Enough so to be worth 9 points at the booth!
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Ashe has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Inyala digs in lot #6:
Alas, there doesn't seem to be anything nearly as shiny on the other plot, however. But a good effort, all the same!
( Inyala has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Linyü digs in lot #13:

No strange finds on the previous lot, but certainly something on the next one! Deeper than other finds, something solid touched against the shovel just as you think to call it a day for this spot. Brushing the dirt away, a slightly mangled looking monocle comes to light. While the glass seems like it needs replacing, the historians quickly rush over to inspect the find. Most of them don't seem too hopeful, as the object looks a bit too mundane for possible historic worth, but a few none the less give it a look over. One never knew! Maybe it belonged to a famous historic figure? Marked the place for a modern history battle? The grounds of an old manor? While the historians would certainly love for that to be the case, it seems it's not quite so simple - the frame has hardly any scratches aside the recent ones and even the rope looks suspiciously synthetic. Eventually they seem to agree it's just too new, and hand it back.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

Rei digs in lot #12:
Nearby, something else glints in the fading sunlight as the dirt gets brushed off of it - looks like another 'coin' for the collection! A fairly simple one, worth some 3 points at the booth.
( Rei has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Silver digs in lot #86:
Strength is all well and good, but sometimes the steady pace wins the race! Or a coin, in this case. Shiny, golden, and worth 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Silver has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kylma digs in lot #96:
The dirt here certainly smells like it should have something! But alas, there doesn't seem to be anything of interest. Perhaps someone had just dropped a bit of food?
( Kylma has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Kadin digs in lot #50:

The first sign of something is subtle, as there's a sudden resistance again the shovel. It's not exactly sturdy as a rock and not exactly loose as dirt, but something feeling almost malleable in between. Brushing away the dirt, it reveals itself to be a piece of canvas, frayed and scraggly, but still instant enough to hold itself together. The historians nearby pause, as their attentions are caught by it and come over. Where one considers its origin based on the style and medium of the drawing upon it, the other debates against it based on the material and weave of the canvas. One seems convinced it's been drawn at least 200 years ago! The other says it can't be younger than 400! Eventually, a third historian finally joins the argument, picks up the piece, adjusts their glasses and humms. They hand it back some time later, saying it's not even 4 years old - In all the fervour, the historians had missed the small scribble of a date in the bottom right corner, next to some art student's signature. So, they hand it back, taking their leave, if not a bit embarrassed.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Kadin has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Miles digs in lot #20:

Alas, enthusiasm doesn't seem to bear fruit for the houluh in this case. Perhaps somerwhere else?
( Miles has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Nadia digs in lot #1:
Looks like 'mo' was a good choice, as a bright green coin is unearthed! Worth a nice 6 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Nadia has earned 3 points at the Booth for their work! )
Renathan digs in lot #67:
Well there's certainly more finds for the coin collection! A shiny golden and a deep red, worth 3 and 12 points at the booth, respectively.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..
( Renathan has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Auburn digs in lot #68:
As for the small creature, though the search is extensive, there just doesn't seem to be anything here.
( Auburn has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Leafy digs in lot #39:
There doesn't seem to be much here, middle, sides or otherwise, alas.
Despite no finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Leafy has earned 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Naieth digs in lot #93:
The familiar has a bit more luck, though, as a green coin gets upturned from the dirt! Nice, at least some 6 points at the booth.
( Naieth has earned their owner 5 points at the Booth for their work! )
Flare digs in lot #30:
Whether its the magic or the happenstance, is unknown, but the earth does seem to give one golden-looking coin! It's glass, not gold, but still worth some 3 points at the booth.
Along with the finds, there is a strange little bag just sitting around on the ground..

( Flare has earned 1 point at the Booth for their work! )
Grendel digs in lot #47:

The houluh does a good job digging through the dirt, and at first it seems they find a lumpy looking rock. It's not long after that the lumpy looking rock turns out be a slab, and one with writing, no less! The historians seem to approach with some disinterest at first, but once they're close enough to see the object in truth, their eyes suddenly widen and they pick up the pace considerably. The crowd of overseeks flock around it for some time, the usual hushed whispers sounding more louder than intended, as they discuss the writing on the slab, it's nature, culture, possible meaning. It seems old, perhaps even draconic? Alas, the crew isn't able to get all too far before someone inspects a corner of the tablet, only to discover a slight discolouration - paint. Further inspection then quickly concludes the slab looks to be nothing more than some very well made prop, likely for a local theatre production. The historians return it, taking their leave with lowered heads.
( Grendel has earned their owner 1 point at the Booth for their work! )

OOC Update:
The scientists of the labs have also completed the second batch of Fairgrounds FVSCs, so Series 2 features an additional: Balgor, Mosca, Rakai-Sarane, Pasha-Sarane, Pliathor and Vespa!
There's no difference between Series 1 or Series 2 beyond their release dates, and it's still otherwise 1 voucher per creature, regardless of series.

While Ashe was digging, he saw something glint in the light. He perked up, awakened from his digging trance, lulled by the monotonous movement. He dug a bit more until he was able to completely unearth whatever this was, and he saw it was just like the green item he'd found before. Only this one was blue. He admired it for a moment, reminded of Inyala's skin color, then he pocketed it to keep it safe. He walked over to help Inyala, but it appeared she was picking up on the idea of digging. She already had her hole dug pretty deep, but unfortunately there wasn't anything shiny there, colorful or not. "Nice work, 'Yala. But not much luck here, let's try a different place..." He led the way to another plot: Ashe chose one marked one hundred and eleven. He liked the triple ones, maybe that would be lucky. And Inyala chose one nearby, heading off to do her duty. Teamwork!

Show name: Walk a Mile Call name: Miles Gender: Male Species: Common Houluh Level: 20 [1/5] Loyalty: 42 [2/5] -stats- Stamina: 2 Strength: 2 Resistance: 1 Dexterity: 5 Mentality: 5 Special Abilities: None Moves: Bite Training Tricks Known: Name (1), Heel (1), Come (1), Search (2), Sit (1), Stay (1), Hold (1), Drop (1), Lay Down (1), Combat Crawl (2), Race (3) After the excitement of the last dig, Kadin was much more motivated than last time to come back and dig again. He wasn't sure what he was going to find, as per usual, but he felt confident that he and Miles had to find... something. Then again, that could be over confidence talking. Just because they found something last time didn't mean that they would find something again. But it never hurt to go out and dig and see what was there, whether they found something or not. This time he sent Miles off to the opposite side of the grounds, thinking that it'd be best if they split up to cover more ground. His choices were random and not entirely thought out. He couldn't figure out a system to it, whether it had a system to begin with. But never mind that. He took a further corner, digging up the ground quickly, but trying to be careful at the same time, while Miles searched further up, trying to sniff out anything that might be of interest to his human. This time Renathan's work was quite a bit more difficult the ground there had been obstructed with a bit of gravel, though Renathan could not have guessed why. He works quite hard, and finally procures two of the shiny coins for his own work. It took much longer for the russet mammalian to finish this time; Auburn got done well before he did. She ran up to him completely empty 'handed' as he took a break between working on one half of the plot and the other. "Oh, didn't get anything this time, huh Auburn?" He smiles beneath his mask at her anyway, and gives her a treat for her attempt. "You did a good job anyway, Maer Gaessh!" After a short scratch behind her fluffy ear, Renathan gets back to work.
The rest of the plot took very little work comparatively, and revealed nothing. He takes another break after finishing, and turns the coins over in his palm, pleased with them regardless.[Post 10]

It was time to select new places to dig. After taking a quick glance around to make sure that he wasn't about to encroach on someone else's areas, he moves both himself and Auburn down to the middle of the row that he'd already been on. He didn't see any reason to move any further away and possible upset someone else's digging when there wasn't anyone near them quite yet on the row. "Alright Auburn, how about we go down this direction?" Auburn follows Renathan, if only because she is so used to his body language, and whenever Renathan stops in a plot numbered '65', he calls out for her to search. "Auburn, F'rai!"
The little Izer bounded off to begin the search, and Renathan moved over to the next plot (number sixty-four, he noted without much thought). He was beginning to tire a bit, so he planned to go a little slower with this one to pace himself. There were still a ton of places to be searched, beyond this one, after all!
The russet mammalian lifts the shovel, and begins the work in a corner so that he can work methodically.

Silver was... actually relieved when all they found was a coin. So far a majority of the attention was on Ky. He was a good natured little guy, so he didn't really mind the attention, even if it did confuse him a little. Silver couldn't imagine how suffocating it must be for everyone to rush up on them like that. They mentally prepared for the possibility each time their trowel struck dirt. Kylma had come up empty handed for once. He wasn't upset, though. It's not like he knew what the shiny trinkets were. The idea of commerce was a bit over his head. Either way, he was bored now, and immediately sniffed out a new spot to dig in. He sniffed along the ground, and came to a space nearby where there were no other people. He swished his tail, waiting for Silver to catch up. "Ah, okay, looks good to me," they said. "Dig Kylma, dig!" Yet again he tore through the dirt with his claws, somehow not sick of this weird loop yet. Silver, of course, slowly took their place nearby and began to poke away steadily clearing some dirt in hopes of another trinket. [Squares 106 & 116] Finds: [132.05, 9.2]

Leafy came up empty with her digging. However, there was another one of those strange goodie bags lying on the ground nearby. She was quick to snatch it up before anyone else could stumble across it. Since she hadn’t found much in the area, Leafy decided that she would stick close and see if she could get the plot next to her to yield something. She briefly met up with Naeith and retrieved the coin that her cross companion had discovered. Naieth then went over to the far corner of the area. Leafy thought it was a fine choice and went back over to the plot that was somewhat close to the middle of the map. Surely this plot would give her something good! She grabbed her shovel and began to dig. Naieth didn’t need tools to dig and she was just as efficient without them. They both carried on with the task at hand. [Squares 38, 120]

They were luckier with this lot -- by some definitions of 'luckier', anyway. Before San had even broken ground at their new location, Rei shook her head and pointed out the faint glimmer of an object sticking out ever so slightly from the dirt. San frowned, kneeling next to it, and excavated it mostly by hand. As soon as it became apparent that it wasn't a coin, Rei backed away.
And not a moment too soon either; all at once a murmur went up, and the by-now familiar crowd of archaeologists crowded around to confiscate the find, debate amongst themselves about it, then hand it back.
Even San found himself letting out a sigh as they left. Crowds of strangers didn't make him uneasy the way they made Rei uneasy, but the comings and goings were beginning to feel a little intrusive. He wondered if it wouldn't be easier to have a drop-off point for objects of interest... But then again, he supposed not all those hired on to dig were necessarily honest.

Well, never mind. It was far from the worst he had dealt with in the name of a job.
Once she was certain the archaeologists were gone, Rei wandered back to San, carrying another one of the little orange bags. She offered it to him, and he examined this one a little more closely as he took it from her. "This is... a pumpkin?"
"It's a tradition here," she explained. "Hollow a pumpkin, carve a face, and light a candle inside."
"A lantern," he said, and thought of the paper lanterns that had lit up the streets of Ningjing at the end of every festival for the new year. He had painted some, in the unrefined strokes of a child, when his parents had still been alive.
Rei nodded, perhaps thinking the same.
The contents of the bag were no different from the first: toys and candy, apparently another tradition of the autumn festival that the pumpkin lanterns were a part of. San tucked it away inside his backpack before continuing further down the plot.

Being young in soul and a novice at magic, Flare doesn't even convince a rock to move with his will, so its back to using the regular tools. Worth a shot at least. The beach rabbit did mention the earth is a stubborn, sturdy element that doesnt' yield easily to others. The wooden handle of his shovel feels gritty with lack of use. Thankfully, they both panned out something. A goldish colored coin for Flare, and humans start surrounding Grendel when she starts barking happily. Whats this? Another pumpkin bag is discarded between the crowd, but they're pratically fighting over a slab of stone. He doesn't see the real...draw in the slab, but the houlou is pleased with herself. He gives her a few scritches before picking another pair of squares. This was an exercise! At least the houlou appears to be having fun, trying out her new skill that only she and Shabh actually had figured out. A nice thing to learn together.

There was an addictive element to the digging. Nadia couldn't wait to get back into the action now that she'd started, and was quite happy to go it alone - having a companion might've been nice, but her reservations about potential danger were getting the better of her. It would be her and her spade for the foreseeable. The available plots were dwindling. That was a good thing as far as participation rates went, and made her choices a lot easier. If she'd been presented with an empty field, she might've found it too overwhelming. She didn't spend too much time considering this time around, opting to dig in to wherever caught her eye first and hope for the best. It had been beneficial so far. Even if nothing else came of it, she was getting a decent workout, judging by the way her back and arms would ache once she'd gotten home.
