The ohou were teaming up against the houluh, nipping at the floppy ears of the pup. The long haired canine was surprisingly aware of where its long ears were, and was able to keep them out of the biting mouths trying to catch them. Not only that, but its movements launched counter attacks, avoiding nips from one perpetrator while slapping the other in the face with the very same ear. The sight was amusing to say the least, making the leopard's lip curl into a smile as he watched them play. To find the ohou bested by the ears of the houluh was an unexpected turn of events. The scene carried on to chase, once the nipping proved ineffective. The slightly older houluh still seemed to have the advantage there though, as the pup's figure was far more slender making for a more nimble gait. In comparison, the other two were pudgier and had more bulk, resulting in a powerful, yet unrefined gait. Ohou were agile enough to participate in races (as far as Xentus knew) though it seemed at this early stage, they were a bit less graceful than houluh. Or maybe it was the silken fur of the houluh that gave him such an impression. The observing leopard really couldn't place exactly the differences that stood out between the two types of canine. Maybe it was that the houluh matured faster.. Or that the houluh were still fairly young, having not yet lost their baby fat. Or perhaps a mix of both.

He could be writing this down. The leopard could never forego an opportunity to document research findings, and now that he'd found something of enough interest to commit to paper, he would do just that. His eyes lingered on the three dogs for a moment longer, tracking their movements to ensure they wouldn't scamper too far away in the few seconds it would take him to procure his notebook and pen. It would be fine, he assured, then excused himself from watching for just a moment. And a moment would be all it took for the trio of rambunctious puppies to set their sights on a different target. Overhead, a bird flew by and cast its shadow onto the grass below, passing right over the canines. The houluh zoned in on the creature in the sky, while the ohou targeted the shadow traced before them. They seemed to forget about one another for that moment and began to chase after the new plaything. Excited yipping and barking filled the relatively quiet air. Immediately, Xentus perked up from within the tent and scrambled to see what the commotion was. His dogs were running off the moment he let his eyes off them. Of course that would happen. It was like animals knew when they weren't being watched, and chose to do the last thing their owners wished for in as soon as that happened. The mammalian half groaned, half sighed as he tossed his pen and paper on the grass and made off after his dogs.
--- They were small and wouldn't get very far before Xentus caught up to them, scooping the pups into his arms. They squirmed and wriggled and whined to be free. So carefree and undisciplined they were. Ah, how his mind crept back to the idea of the endless list of things to teach and train them... This could be the start of it all, sure. But part of him felt resigned to try again another day.
> Exeunt Xentus and the pups.
