Morgan had to admit that they weren't exactly looking forward to the Bonfire that night. In order for WELP to be successful, it was important to get out into the community and to host events that would endear their vision to the public by aligning the ideals of the public with the persona of their work. Honestly, it would have been better perhaps for Dis to have set this all up herself, and Morgan had indeed insisted upon that- but they couldn't deny that they were at least sort of a public figure at this point. So they prepared for the event theirself, deciding upon how exactly they wanted to present their self, exactly how long they would stay... and of course they planned to go by the questing association to let them know that they would be attending as well. They decided to take Whisper with them, as opposed to Kaodie- since Kaodie was somewhat afraid of fire and Whisper could easily sit in their labcoat pocket and not be too much of a distraction.[Morgan is using Sever Bond.]

Morgan had a slightly different view than others perhaps did on the month of The Incursion. When they were a child, the event really could be a long-standing thing complete with parades of new creatures and such. The Labs also had a sort of... Strange hold on the city that died off whenever the Head Scientist disappeared. The entire event intrigued them as a child and infuriated them as an older teenager- especially after their father had disappeared too (long after that time period where the Lead Scientist had disappeared, in fact). They couldn't help but feel if they understood the disappearance of the Labs' Lead Scientist that they would probably figure out their father's separate but similar disappearance as well... Every November was like this. They barely had the energy to keep up.
Just as soon as they got ready for the Bonfire, they remembered that they never picked up the quest for theirself. "Ugh, what a bother. C-cmon Whisper." Morgan picks up the tiny critter and puts them in their pocket gently.

At least it gave them an excuse not to go to the bonfire directly... Perhaps they could draw this out and show up 'fashionably late'. That would be acceptable for someone of their rank, right? At the very least, it would make them seem even more eccentric and kooky than they actually were, which was good for their public image. It was always best to look socially awkward to people when one was the money behind an operation of any kind- especially in their line of work. Being out of the public eye was impossible for people like them. The entire situation just had to be mitigated the best that they could have it done.
Whisper pokes her head up out of Morgan's pocket and looks around as they pass different bright-lights in the city. Whisper didn't get to come out often, and when she did she really loved to take in the sights!

They make pretty decent time to the block that houses the Quest Board, and then they slow up on purpose. Already the street lamps are starting to come on, and that meant that the bonfire should be starting up soon. They feel a bit of a tightness in their chest as they go to turn the corner towards the quest board- and they were experienced enough to realize that this was most likely a panic attack starting up. The difficulty breathing started up, and Morgan leaned against the wall (glad to be seemingly alone- most of the people in the city that were out this time of night were probably at the bonfire by now) with their elbows up and over their head to help make sure that their breathing was easier. Then, they began counting. One. Two... Three... Four... They timed their breathing with it, as they'd been taught.

Just as soon as Morgan felt like they were getting it under control, they felt Whisper twist around in their pocket and make a high pitched little alarm chirrup. "W-what is it, Whisper?" Morgan begins to say as they turn towards their right. Just as they'd went to look, they noticed someone was there- and it was someone very familiar. 'Morgan! What are you doing here?' The tiny individual says, her three eyes blinking, the one in the middle a little disjointed from the other two. "Oh- it's j-just you, Dis." They breathed out a sigh of relief. At least their chest didn't feel so tight anymore. They stood up, feeling a little like they'd been caught with their hand in some cosmic cookie jar.
"I'm just uh, I forgot to grab t-the quest paper, uh, for myself." Morgan said sheepishly, showing a rare glimmer of weakness. They find theirself presented with a paper for the Bonfire quite unceremoniously. "Uh thanks?"

Morgan can tell that Dis is looking at them with a hint of disapproval at first, but soon enough it is replaced with simple sly humor as the older Kapper shakes her head at them. 'You aren't trying to avoid OUR Bonfire, are you? Isn't that a little gouache?' Morgan winces. She almost sounds like their dad, but then again- she had been friends with him (one of his last pupils it would seem) so it made sense. Morgan places their palm and runs all of their fingers across the fine hairs of their nape. They were slicked with sweat. "Of course not." They admonished, picking back up their facade. "Just b-busy, that's all." They turned back around towards the sidewalk that would take them eventually to the city's edge, where the bonfire was being held. "Very busy." Whisper chirrups for attention, and Morgan is sure to pet her on the head. They started walking, and Dis falls into step next to them, just as they expected.

This was Morgan's fault, really. They hadn't really wanted to go to a gathering, but even they had to agree that it was a necessary 'evil' (not really an evil, more so a massive inconvenience to them personally) to try to throw some sort of 'bash' for one of the most serious holiday months of the year- to bring attention and popularity to WELP. Even then, they had hoped that what the board that they'd dedicated to the process decided upon would not be something so... Mingle heavy. Especially not something in which they would have to do so much 'mingling' in. Dis pipes up finally, as they pass a familiar blinking streetlamp about halfway through the walk on the way to the bonfire. 'Hey, chin up! There's going to be great food!'
Morgan cannot help but chuckle, but mostly it is because Whisper cuddles their palm with the crest at the top of her head and that does tickle. "Right, right." They were grumpy, but it wasn't anything that they really should throw on Dis' little shoulders.

Finally, they stood in front of the Bonfire. Dis turns to Morgan and smiles, all snaggletooth, and Morgan sheepishly glances away. It isn't entirely a ploy whenever they put on their 'hello I'm a nervous doofy eccentric scientist' face- mostly because it is mixed with very obvious 'I don't want to be here because I'm socially awkward' melancholy. At least Whisper was there, though she did little to distract Morgan from the plight of it. Whisper looks out over the bonfires with great interest though, and Morgan smiles lopsidedly down at her. "At least you like it..." They wondered vaguely if they should have brought Kaodie instead- or invited Endymion out with them instead. At the very least they'd have an excuse to stay out a little further from others.
Dis waves to them and then turns to go find her friends in the crowd, and Morgan... Tries very hard not to draw attention to theirself, and does anyway.

Not everyone knew Morgan on site, but it was a little hard to stay out of the limelight all of the same. For a little while, they had a fake apologetic smile practically so plastered onto their face that their muscles hurt by the end of it. They faced endless questions that they gave answers to that would be acceptable to the masses in the way that they had practiced, and they tried to keep Whisper out of the limelight. After a little while, the little creature hid down into their pocket pretty well, and mostly went unnoticed after the first few people that came to talk to them. Morgan eventually managed to grab a snack from a cart (a small steak sandwich) because they couldn't remember when they had eaten last. Finally, after what seemed like hours of this, they managed to just barely get away to have a smoke near the outside edge of the party.

The sky was really clear, at least. Morgan lights up one of their thin black cigarettes and blows the first drag back out into the sky. Not very many people smoked in the Labs City all things considered (a good thing, it was a bad idea and pointless at best) so they didn't have anyone that wanted to be around them while they did this. Whisper only pokes her head back up and out of their pocket whenever they had the cigarette finished. After this, Morgan just looks up into the clear sky at the twinkling stars, and they took a moment to pat Whisper on the head and just be quiet for a moment. It felt good on their throat, really soothing, to not have to talk for a moment.
It didn't take long for Morgan to get pulled back into doing more endless rounds speaking with horrible bores, but they finally managed to slink away without issue whenever the fireworks started. They watched them from a long ways off, sitting on a knoll with Whisper in the dark.
