In her haste to chase after the fish, Lillai whipped her body around. In the shallow water, this turned into a splash at the surface, then she swam like a bullet after the fish. Jinx jerked her head over when she heard the splash, startled because it had been quiet for the past couple of hours, but also... that was a big splash! She saw a flash of blue and realized it must have been her Tat-Lung and not a big fish stalking them. But what would cause Lillai to swim off like that?
Without waiting for an answer to her unspoken question, Jinx launched into action. She tightened her grip on the net, lifted it above the water so it wouldn't drag, and ran deeper into the water after the fish. It didn't take long for the water to go over the tops of her boots, fill them, then continue up her legs. No turning back now, she was definitely wet!

She was probably scaring all the fish in the nearby area off with her splashing, but Jinx was too excited about the thought of a pursuit to worry too much about that. Lillai wouldn't dart off after nothing... Right? But then again, even if Lillai had seen something, how would she be able to catch it and bring it back to her? Or corner it in water, until Jinx got there? There was certainly no way Jinx would be able to catch up to either fish, especially with the water now up past her knees. The sprinting slowed to a crawl, the water creating so much resistance against her progression.
Lillai saw the fish up ahead - but then it disappeared. It was there one moment, then it was gone, just like that! Lillai continued in that direction, looking around, trying to find it. Where she had last seen it, she did a couple of circles, looking for movement.

The fish was scared out of its hiding place. It swam right in front of Lillai. In its haste, it actually bumped into the side of her head. Lillai stopped, startled, and shook her head, then gazed around, trying to find it. The little fish was stunned as well and in the couple of moments it needed to recover, Lillai was on top of it. Her mouth was a big, gaping chasm that seemed absolutely terrifying for the little fish. It tried to swim away, but Lillai sucked it right in. She hadn't had a plan beyond trying to catch it, and trying to do so without hands was difficult. But beyond that... She hadn't had a plan. And she didn't want it in her mouth! She spat the fish back out, and it zoomed away.
Jinx was still wading through the water, trying to catch up to her Lapis and see if she could still catch that fish. She kept her eyes down on the water, looking for blue.

Lillai realized what had happened after the fish was long gone. She had no fish caught for her human companion, she had let it get away! She looked around in vain, as if maybe the potential meal of a fish had decided to stick around after all. But it was gone, likely halfway to the Canyon by now. Unsure of the events that had just happened, Lillai turned and started swimming back to Jinx. She saw the woman's legs shortly after, and swam up to her, peeking out of the water. She hoped her eyes conveyed the situation. Her mouth opening and closing as she bobbed around, comically.
To her surprise, Jinx understood what she was trying to say.
"Sorry, I tried to catch it..."
"That's okay, I know you tried." And just like that, Jinx's concerns were realized; the fish had gotten away from Lillai before Jinx had been able to catch up and grab it for herself.

Lillai was caught off guard. Not only had Jinx somehow known what was going on - somehow she knew exactly what Lillai had been trying to say! - but what Jinx said in return made sense to her. Not that she had been around many humans, but normally other creatures, humans included, didn't make sense. Sometimes even other tat-lung didn't make sense! Even though Jinx had dismissed her blame, Lillai felt the urge to see if she would understand again...
"It swam so fast... I swim fast, but it was gone."
"Aww, sweetheart, you tried. That's the best you can do." Jinx reached down into the water to stroke her smooth scales. Lillai seemed a little uncomfortable with the touch, so Jinx didn't prolong it. Just enough to get her point across, to praise and also touch, to get 'touch' to also be 'good thing.' Jinx was, by now, standing in almost waist high water, completely soaked...

Jinx watched Lillai swim around her for a few minutes, admiring the gracefulness to her as a fish. The shiny scales, the effortless swimming and twirling, the frilly fins that danced around her the way a woman's skirts spread out as she twirled on the dancefloor...
She was also keeping an eye out for any other fish, or shells or crayfish or whatever she could find in the water, to try and scoop out with her net. So far, the water was looking pretty empty. It wasn't the most clear where she was standing, since her rush to get over here had stirred up some of the mud collected at the bottom. She wondered how deep this was during the wet season - she might even be underwater during those months! She'd have to come back and explore for sure. Swimming with her fish? Soon to be dragons? Heck yes, count her in! She couldn't wait to try that out.

"I'm going to head back to the shore. It's easier for me to walk, especially with this thing." She gestured with the net, hoping Lillai would understand. While they were conversing, when one of them talked, Jinx noticed her ring glow a soft green. The magic at work, she supposed! She started walking back the way they had come. Lillai followed after her, seemingly catching on to what she wanted to do and joining her for the walk... For the swim. The two made their way back in silence, enjoying the company, keeping their eyes out for the next adventure to spring up. Nothing of interest happened, and before too long Jinx was back down to knee height water, and then even more shallow. She made her way to the shore. Once there, she pulled her boots off, drained the water, and put them back on. And promptly went right back into the water, but shallow enough it didn't fill the boots!

Another waited nearby- patiently, quietly, immobilized in a scrunched-low stance with un-blinking eyes out towards the moving water. The enileaf was a monument of patience, despite catching a few droplets of wayward splashes here and there, looking on carefully towards the splashing and movement. It had come for the fish, patiently waiting in a pool of shadow by the waters edge, though at the moment its eyes were wayward, watching as the woman affixed some article of clothing, and walked back into the waters..

Lillai swam closer to shore so she could be near her new human friend, but not too close because she did prefer the comfortably deep without being pressured by the surface. Jinx was able to see her from where she was walking and that was comfort enough. As Jinx walked along the shore, she came across some weird plant thing, just up on the rocky shore. What caught her eye was the movement in her peripheral, causing her to jerk her head over. It took her a few moments of scrutiny to figure out the plant wasn't moving - there was something eating the plant! It bobbed with every bite. And then she saw it - there was a turtle of some sort, munching on the plant, which reminded her of a head of lettuce that was going bad. The sickly green color certainly didn't look appetizing, but if you looked at the turtle, you would think it was heavenly!

"Hey little guy," Jinx said, walking over to the turtle. She didn't want to startle it with a sudden approach, though there was the possibility she would scare it off anyway with just her voice. Thankfully, and luckily for her, the turtle seemed content to continue eating. As long as Jinx didn't steal its food, it stayed put. Occasionally, it did lift its head to check on Jinx and where she was or what she was doing.
Jinx started to walk toward the turtle, slowly at first and then with more speed as she got more confident that it wouldn't scuttle away. She was real close to it before it started to back off, concerned. Jinx tried to approach in a roundabout way, so it wouldn't think she was there to steal its food.
In the water, Lillai circled, her tailfin breaking the surface a few times. She couldn't see what Jinx was doing and she found herself concerned she'd been left.

Jinx got closer to the turtle. She found some more of that lettuce it was eating, and held it out as an offering, to show she wasn't going to take its food and was in fact going to give it more... Assuming it came with her, of course. It took a little bit of bribery, but she managed to lead it back to where she had started this journey. She had it set up with her other findings, got it comfortable with plenty of lettuce to eat, then she went back toward where she'd left Lillai. However, the fish had followed her, so the blue critter wasn't there where she'd left her. A jolt of panic later, she realized Lillai was swimming behind her, approaching nonchalantly.
"Oh, there you are! You had me worried. Where were you?"
"Here. I haven't left you."
Jinx wasn't sure if she believed that, thinking the fish had gotten distracted and swam off.

Regardless of what Jinx thought, the fish was back with her now, and they were ready to start looking for things again. Jinx put her hand in the water, drumming her fingers for fun and tapping the tat-lung's nose with a finger for fun. Lillai nibbled at the offered finger, swam away, then swam back just to do it all over again, like a game. Jinx smiled to herself, lost in a daydream of what Lillai would be like when she grew up into a dragon. She didn't know what they looked like - Ashe had given them to her as fish - but she had heard stories enough to know that she wanted them, whatever they looked like.
A shiver went up her spine and she suddenly felt like there were eyes on her. She glanced from side to side, not moving her head. She didn't want to startle or alert whatever it was, so she could get a look at it for herself.

Jinx didn't see anything obvious around them. But the feeling was still there and wouldn't go away. Sometimes, the feeling was just in her head and when she calmed down from the first mini panic, she would be able to wash the feeling away. This was different, the feeling stayed, and the hairs on her arms and the back of her neck stood upright.
Lillai sensed something was wrong. "What happened?" She asked, with a slight concern she'd done something. Things had been fine and playful, then Jinx had gone rigid.
"We're not alone," Jinx replied softly. "Someone, or something, is watching us. But I don't see anyone."
Lillai didn't know what to do with this information. She wasn't concerned with being watched like Jinx was. She didn't sense any predators around, at least nothing that would threaten her, so she didn't care what else was around. But the human continued to slowly look around for the source of her unease.

That was when she saw it, finally. A flash of silver out of the corner of her eye, disappearing behind a rock. Jinx slowly turned to face that direction and watch, but no other movement came. At least not immediately. Jinx started walking toward the rock that was hiding this mystery creature. Her steps through the water made more noise than she would have liked. She tried to quiet her movement, but with the (small) current going, and the depth, she couldn't do too much. Lillai followed alongside her, interested to see what it was that had had Jinx so concerned for a while.
Unfortunately, the movement spooked the critter, just as Jinx feared, and the feline that had been stalking fish made a mad dash for a bigger rock to hide behind. Its silvery coat seemed to melt into the landscape and shadow, pretty much helping it disappear from sight. But Jinx wasn't one to give up!
