"I don't know for sure," Jinx admitted. "It could just want seeds and bugs and stuff." She caught herself from adding a sarcastic, I haven't asked it yet. She was on edge and slightly irritated now and she didn't know why. What she did know was that Lillai didn't deserve her tongue. She was asking questions based on the limited information Jinx was able to give, unable to back it up with sight. She was under water! Not above the surface and able to see things with her own eyes.
Jinx let out a long, slow sigh.
"I'm going to go see if I can get it to join us. Maybe it'll help scare fish from their hiding places by the shore, so we can catch them out here!" Jinx started to take slow steps toward the shore, trying to be as quiet as possible. The bird snapped to attention; obviously she wasn't being quiet enough!

Okay, so there didn't seem to be any way that she could out-quiet this bird's ears! It could probably hear her breathe at this point! Jinx tried to move her legs with the water but that didn't even work. It took a couple of steps away from her, nervous. Jinx paused, trying to let it gain confidence again, but it seemed hooked on the flight response. Even Lillai was holding still! She checked her pockets, passing her net back and forth between her hands so she could use both to check them all. She had some treats, but they were more geared for tat lung and fish. Maybe the bird would like them anyway? She reached in and took a couple pellet like treats and tossed them as far as she could, toward the bird. She didn't make it all the way, and thankfully she didn't hit the bird and scare it off completely, so it landed and rolled harmlessly, about six feet from the bird.

The bird let out a squawk and darted a short distance away, thinking it was under attack. But a second blow didn't come as expected and curiosity got the best of it. It turned and looked. Waited. Made a soft cawing noise. It looked at Jinx. Then at the thing, that fell from the sky. It had thought the human had attacked it, but the human was still in the water. Closer now, but still a ways off. It tilted its head and took a step toward the projectile. Nothing happened. It stepped again. And again. Something was on the ground there, something small and roundish. Food? Let's see. The bird pecked at it. Pecked again. Yes, it seemed to be food! It made quick use of the treats, pecking them to pieces and swallowing them down its long neck. It looked up, wanting more, and saw that the human was suddenly closer! The fish was still a blue speck in the water, but the human...!

Jinx was pleased to see that the bird appeared to enjoy the treats. At least she had ammo now to use and entice it to trust her! It gobbled up what she'd thrown and was looking for more - while it had been busy, she had quickly taken a few more steps and gotten out of the water, closer to the bird. It seemed startled that she had crept so close in such a short time. Hey, it must have really been distracted! Did that mean it was really hungry? She pulled out some more treats and tossed them its way, letting them land on the ground in front of it and roll. The bird took a step back, concerned, though it quickly realized what it was and quickly started pecking at the treats offered again. Once more, Jinx took a chance and moved closer, closer...
In the water, Lillai paced, swimming back and forth near the shore, unable to see what was going on above.

Jinx was so close now! If she lunged forward, she could probably grab it before it could run. And, in the process, she could end up traumatizing it forever and it would never let her touch it again. So of course she didn't act rashly. She offered some more treats, this time in her hand. When the bird didn't immediately take them, she dropped them on the ground and let it peck to its heart's content. She tried offering them again from her hand and this time, with some hesitation, the bird took them. Over the next ten minutes or so, the girl won the bird's trust over to the point where she could touch its feathers. And yes - it was as soft as it looked! Jinx couldn't help herself.
If only she had legs! Ohhhh! One day, she would have legs, and Lillai would not be left behind in the water!! She was not happy.

She smiled as she stroked the head. It was quite large, like the labs' chiryma. Perhaps it was a subspecies of it?
"There there... Would you like to help us fish?"
She didn't have a magical ring to understand this bird, or to help it understand her. She had to do things the old fashioned way! She stood up from where she'd kneeled, then held out her hand that had some treats in it. The bird appeared interested - and followed her as she backed her way to the waters edge. She gave it one treat when they got there, then she tossed another onto the ground in the direction they were going. As it went after the treat, she went back into the water and continued in that direction. It saw her in the water and squawked - she tossed it another treat, to keep its interest in her. She had retrieved her net, and nearly tripped over Lillai twice. The fish was very unhappy with her, and the ring glowed fiercely.

A soft call, tepid steps; another soft-looking, almost ghostly thing( with how its feathers rippled with its momentum), stepped out from the wild brush. A little more wary and skittish, with its lifted head and fluffing feathers, it was apparent that it'd been following the darker chiryma at a distance; perhaps there was a relation? Either way, it stood off at such a distnace that it's presence wouldn't have gone unnoticed, yet it stood far enough away to offer a keen eye rather than scatter. A 'quirp?' of a noise, its raised leg in-stride was gently placed on the ground, peeping around the feathers in its eyes...

Another one? Jinx jerked her head up when she heard the motion, and yet still nearly jumped out of her skin when the sound came almost at the same time. It had sneaked up on her! She blinked, thinking she was seeing double with an odd color issue, but no - there were two fluffy birds! "Wow, you two are lovely," She told them. She tossed a treat to the white one as well, hoping it, too, would be interested in joining her. "Look at those soft feathers... So light and floating. And those beaks. And the claws..." Her voice was soft, almost sing-song, in order to keep them calm.
"What's going on?" Lillai asked from the water. Jinx could hear her, though Lillai probably still couldn't see the birds.
"We have some new friends!" She told her fish. "I think they want to walk along with us." They were starting to get a collection of creatures, though- she thought they might have to stop home soon.

Jinx spent a small chunk of time, perhaps ten minutes or so, bonding with the birds. She was just about completely dry from her near swim earlier, and the sun felt warmer on her skin. She sighed softly and gave out one last treat. "Hang around and I'll take you home soon, where you can have all the treats and food you want!" The two birds pecked up the treat offered to each in her hand, gave some low bird sounds, and watched her curiously. She assumed they watched her, anyway. She couldn't see where their eyes were with the fluff.
But she was eager to get back to the water with Lillai and start looking for fish. When she approached the water's edge, she expected to see her blue scaled friend eagerly awaiting her. But Lillai was gone. Jinx frowned a little, looking up and down the river. Had she gotten bored and decided to swim off? Then a flash of blue- there she was!

Lillai hadn't decided to swim off and leave Jinx - she had seen something she thought might interest her human! There was a small fish spotted, swimming near the bottom of the river. It had probably been hiding in the rocks or something, but now it was out and in Lillai's sights. Jinx wanted fish, and Jinx was going to have fish! Lillai made a dart for it, and it tried to swim off - but Lillai was faster. She was able to swing around and block its path. It turned and fled in a different direction, with the Tat-lung in pursuit. The chase was dramatic, however short lived, and ended in Lillai holding the fish's tailfin on her mouth. Gently. She swam to the surface to try and find Jinx. She stayed under the surface, keeping herself and the fish under the water, but she was able to see the above now. Lillai was able to see Jinx and moved toward her.

Lillai greeted Jinx with the fish in her mouth, and the girl let out a pleased gasp, kneeling to take the - was that a goldfish of some sort? it sure was fancy!- fish from her. She got some water in her cupped hands, and quickly made her way to the holding tank. She dropped the fish into it - she had a turtle and some plant life in there, too, but kept the pearl in her pocket. She was both relieved and dismayed to learn that their starting point wasn't that far away from their current point... That meant an easy drop off, but also that she hadn't traveled as far as she'd thought!
Once the task was done, she was righting herself when a flash of color alerted her. Something was in the grass! She crept closer, peering through the thick, dark green, scraggly grass that had held on through the winter and found.. an egg!

It was a pretty egg, too. Jinx wasn't sure where it came from - did one of those Chiryma lay it? How had she not seen it earlier when she set up camp here? And, more importantly, where could she put it to make sure it stayed out of harm's way? There was a chance it wasn't just a chiryma egg, that it might hatch into something new, different, and cool! Jinx wished she knew more about those birds to be able to recognize an egg, at least so she could tell beforehand that it wouldn't be one of those labs birds.
She decided to tuck it away in a blanket, positioning it so it would be in the sun for warmth, but covered and shadey so it wouldn't bake. She wasn't the best mother hen! Hopefully it lived. Then she hurried down to the water and Lillai.
"You won't believe what I just found, Lillai! It was a-" But her Lillai wasn't there.

In Lillai's place was a large dragon, shimmering blue scales. She was lounging in the shallows, her long tail floating along behind her, swaying with her thoughts unconsciously. Jinx skidded to a halt. "H-hello there," She said, shocked. Her first thought, and the one that filled her mind, was that a dragon had deemed her worthy enough of a visit and had swooped in for a chat. She wanted to befriend it and take it home with her, Ashe would be so impressed. She didn't even notice the glowing of her ring when she spoke, indicating its species. "Wh-who are you? I'm Jinx..."The dragon looked over at her, its wet mane glistening and clinging to the slender throat. It tilted its head. "Are you okay? It's me, Lillai. Remember?"[/b] Said as a joke, because Jinx had been away with the birds for so long. She rose onto her feet, then looked down, a little startled.
