Jinx had become too overwhelmed with everything she had collected at the river that day. With Lillai's help, though the dragon would not grant her request of a ride on her back no matter how Jinx pleaded, they were able to get all the items together that they had accrued. With the animals found on the way in tow, led on by curiosity or desire to see what Jinx would do next, the group left the Riverbend and made their way back to Ashe's estate. There, he would be able to figure out what best to do with the new creatures that would be, of course, his new creatures. Jinx was interested in the adventure. Though she may talk him into rent discounts and other such payment for bringing him treasures on her outings. She was really only interested in dragons, wishing to be able to call upon this land's dragon spirit. So far, she had a collection of friends and not much else.
When she next returned to the river, it was with a silver tat lung fish. Ashe had, once again, helped her with the arrival and settling in. She was to send word if she needed him, but Ashe had confided that he expected her to return with yet another dragon. Jinx wasn't sure; Selkie had been with her the longest and he had yet to change his form. Maybe he wanted to be a fish forever? She gazed at the bright silver flash under the surface, contemplating. She wished she knew what it was that had made Lillai change- that dragoness was living it up, enjoying having hands and feet.
Well, best to continue doing what she had been doing previously. Maybe more eggs would show up? Though she rather hoped it would be more fish and less eggs. Ashe wasn't sure what they were, either, though he was more than excited to find out whenever they hatched. If they hatched. Being on the cold water for who knew how long wouldn't yelp their case very much…
"Selkie, can you hear me?" she asked, testing out the magic of the ring she had on her finger. To her delight, it glowed just like it had before with Lillai. So it was the species! Not just one creature. Wonderful magic indeed! The fish turned to face her and went to the surface, it's round mouth bobbing as if for apples, while really gulping at any little insects or treats on the surface. Maybe even air. Jinx didn't know for sure.
"You talk?" came the fish's reply. Jinx felt chills all over again at the prospect of being able to talk to her fish, and then dragon, friends. Was she the only one who could do this? Why were more people not marveling at it? Not even the dragon goddesses from home communicated this well, this casually! Though, to be completely fair, these guys weren't goddesses... just magical flying dragons.
"I'm Jinx. I can understand and speak with you now!"
"You used to make noise, but now I can understand you!" Selkie said, rather bluntly. Jinx gave a soft chuckle, almost a snort. She couldn't even say the same in reply because the fish had been silent until she put the ring on! Had he been an Estharne kit, she could have. But, what, his bubbles now made noise?
"You used to be silent, I couldn't hear you even trying to talk!" she informed him.
He flipped his tailfin at her with a splash. "not silent! Humans just don't listen!"
Jinx felt the smile slip from her face slightly as she considered this. It was true, she couldn't deny that. Humans didn't listen to much, especially other living things. It was why they killed without discretion, cleared the land and didn't care who or what they displaced. She was, of course, one of those humans and perhaps a bigger perpetrator than some, seeing as she'd lived in a castle... It had been so long ago now. She felt like a different person.
"I'm listening now," Jinx said softly. Selkie had not come to her as a baby fish like the others had. He had lived, grown, not been cared for the way she planned to do it, and then sold.... Ashe had gotten him for her as a present, knowing she liked dragons, but he had used some potion on him before Jinx had seen him. So she knew he'd had an adult life, just didn't know what he'd look like as one. "I'll always listen to you, Selkie," she said. But as she spoke, she realized something. A key factor in their relationship. She had never asked him if he even liked his name!!
As she approached the silver fish, her boots splashed in the water, a loud sound breaking the silence. "I'm sorry, I never even asked your name. Is there something else you'd like me to call you?"
The fish eyed her, almost a little defiant now that he was heard. But he turned his head. "Selkie's fine..."
In fact, Selkie quite liked the name. It was the first name he could remember being given. He could have made up his own, perhaps, but he hadn't before he'd met her. So why change it now? They'd known each other for a while, it would be difficult to change it. Yeah, that's it.
Selkie swam around, getting a look at his current, though temporary, digs. The water was rising now that the dry season had passed- not too long from now, it might be difficult to keep track of a fish in the rushing waters! But right now the only real difference was it got deeper in the middle. Somewhere upstream, snow and ice was melting and making its way down into the river, making it swell. Maybe one day, Jinx and her dragons - as dragons, not fish- would make an adventure of it and go find the source!
She adjusted the net she held in her hand and started looking for fish.
Selkie swam along near Jinx, but not right up on her. He ventured off when he felt like it, checking out nooks and crannies, chasing fish if they happened to zoom on by. Jinx, meanwhile, hummed to herself softly as she carried the net, just above the water and ready to strike if she saw a fish. She fought the urge to drag it, knowing that would only scare everything in the area away. Though, to be fair, she also suspected that her walking through the water like she was would also scare the fish off.
They'd been like this for a few minutes when something floating up ahead caught her eye. No, it wasn't floating, it was... on the shore, half submerged in the water. It was smooth, beautiful... Jinx hoped it was a shell, but when she got closer, she saw it was... an egg.
"Another one?" Jinx asked with a sigh. Selkie swam toward her to investigate.
"Another what?" He asked. He couldn't see what she was looking at, and he didn't know her struggle with the eggs from earlier. She was too busy staring at the egg on the shore to reply right away; how many were out here? Would they ever end? Would they hatch and be a dozen more mouths to feed? She shook her head, trying to banish the more distracting thoughts. Selkie had spoken to her.
"Egg." She crossed the distance from where she was walking to the egg, and scooped it up. She brought it back to waters where Selkie would be more comfortable and held it at the surface, so he could get a good look at it. He bobbed his head at the surface, his mouth opening and shutting. He touched the egg with his mouth, but Jinx brought it back out of range. "Not to eat!" She protested. "Normally eggs hatch into something. But these just keep appearing..."
"None of them have hatched yet. But I had Lillai out here earlier and we just kept finding them. One after the other, all different colors! And now here, with you, another has appeared..." She gazed down at the egg in her hand, admiring the pretty colors. It looked like another sunset-y one. She had to find a safe place to put this one, hopefully warm it up. If there was anything inside it and it wasn't just decoration... She sure hoped it could be saved. The water was still cold, though the sun was warm! She tucked it away in a cloth sack she'd brought, specifically for finding things like this. She came prepared this time!
"Let me know if you see any more," she told Selkie. The tat lung gave an affirmative and swam off to explore again. The eggs didn't quite make sense to him yet, so he figured maybe later things would start making sense.
The tat lung returned some time later, a bright flash of silver in the water below. Jinx had been keeping an eye out above, looking for fish or anymore eggs from her lofty vantage point. She had a net with her in case she did see something, and it hung empty over her shoulder. She was enjoying being out in the sunshine, feeling its warmth soaking into her skin. The water was still cold this time of the year, and her legs were numb on the skin level, but the sunshine was enough to keep her warmed up.
The tat lung approached the surface and she saw the silver flash. She smiled brightly down at him and reached her hands down to stroke his scales in greeting. Selkie rolled in her touch, so her fingers could stroke all the itchy spots, then he rolled back over to show her what he had. He held it in his mouth so he couldn't tell her himself.
He had some sort of flower in his mouth, Jinx noticed. It looked like a water lotus or something, but she wasn't that great in botany so she couldn't be sure. What she could be sure of was that it was beautiful, and she was proud of her little fish finding it for her. She stroked his scales again in praise and took the flower, letting the water drip off of it. She gave it a little shake, nothing too vigorous, and set it in her bag carefully.
"It's so pretty! Thank you, Selkie!" She said. The ring glowed green on her finger, magically translating her words. The tat lung did an underwater flip and returned, bobbing at the surface. He enjoyed the praise and seemed to be motivated to find some more now!
"Glad you like it," he told her, before diving back down to find something else for her. It wasn't too long before he returned once again.
This time he also had a plant. It was long and stringy and green, not nearly as pretty as the flower he had brought. Perhaps she would be able to replant it at the aquarium, so she took it from his mouth and tucked it away as well. She thanked the tat lung fish, again stroking his scales softly, giving a small scratch beneath each fin. She figured those spots would be the itchiest and hardest to reach on your own. The tat lung did his little happy flip and went under water again in search of more things. Jinx thought to herself that this was a grand way to gather some things; make it a kind of hide and seek game for her fish and see what else they could bring to her!
While Selkie was gone, she gazed down into the water herself, feeling like she was making him do all the work. She hadn't found anything at all for a while now!

Twilight-Claw: The jewelry on tail or at the head definitely tends to be their most recognizable feature for a Mosca, and sadly their pharaoh chin piece as well. XD

Zenjesi: I definitely like Spectral's the most too! I sort of cheated by drawing Synkka with a cloak because I do not know how to draw feathered wings, haha ^^'
