Bugs and Parties, that was mostly what Badrani had come to associate quests with. Lots of requests to get rid of Bugs, and Lots of Parties. A few different small old people needing help along the way. Of course she specifically picked up 'easier' quests because she didn't have a lot of particular specialties, herself. The month before, Badrani and Shahrazad had went out and had lunch after spraying for bugs that were bothering a Merchant's prized berry plants. The month before then, they'd helped an esteemed War-Elder bake 'cookies', which were apparently a sweet confectionary treat. Badrani had found that she liked doing these kinds of tasks with Shahrazad. It helped them understand the Labs City as new denizens of it. Well, at least Badrani was a new denizen of it. Shahrazad merely tried to visit at least once a month whenever she could- but she really was interested in what the 'humanoids' did in the city in their daily lives. [1]

Badrani knew that fairly soon, she would need to visit Shahrazad out at the Canyon again. She preferred to be out there anyway, but it was hard to maintain a 'normal' presence in the Labs City while mostly being gone out to the Canyon. It was a bit of a conundrum. The Ssashirk woke up on the morning of the next visit by Shahrazad, she was sure to make up a special lunch for them. She didn't know exactly what sort of Quest they were going to find, so it was a good and convenient idea to bring a packed lunch. She kept it beneath her elbow as she walked to the usual meeting spot to greet Shahrazad. Things had gotten a lot less stressful since she'd been visiting the city- though Badrani was still itching to go fishing.
That would have to wait, however. She waits at the usual meeting spot for an extra thirty minutes for Shahrazad to get there- and she was very relieved when the draconic did.

Badrani lets out a breath and lowers her shoulders upon the familiar sight of her beloved friend. She was always a little worried that something would happen to Shahrazad during the trip to visit. They embrace, forcing Badrani to have to adjust where she was holding their lunch in order to keep it from being squished or accidentally knocked away. "I should come down and fish with you again." She suggests.
That seems to humor the Draconic a tad, and she wrinkles her nose. "Really? We got lost last time." At the same time, she didn't seem to be putting up a true fight about it, more needle-ing Badrani about the entire event.
"You're grown now, so it shouldn't be that bad." Badrani retorts. "Plus, you should know the area better now."
Shahrazad moves away from Badrani and towards the road back into town; the one that had a pretty well straight shot towards the Quest Board. They always went to take a Quest whenever Shahrazad visited.

It was always quite easy for the pair of them to find something fun to do together when they left it to the chance of the quest board to figure out what exactly to do. At this point, Badrani suspected that Shahrazad might be quite bored if they skipped taking a quest, or if Badrani took a quest some other time without her and took the opportunity away in that way. "What sort of Quest do you think we'll take this time?" Shahrazad asks, allowing Badrani to catch right up beside her on the sidewalk (Shahrazad walked mostly on the grass- it was a bit of a novelty and she liked it that way).
Badrani snorts, and doesn't dignify it right away with a response. It did make her think. The pair walked most of the way in amicable silence, enough for Shahrazad to startle whenever Badrani gives her answer- "Bugs. More Bugs."

That did illicit a chuckle out of Shahrazad. They had managed to come up with a couple of quests now requiring the two to get rid of bugs (and one of which did not turn out so well...) so it would not have been completely out of the realm of possibility for troublesome pests to be an issue again. It was still during the warm part of the year at this point, so it wouldn't be too surprising... Still, Badrani hoped that they wouldn't be tasked with such a thing again.
The two made it to the Quest Board quite quickly, since it was indeed a sweltering day out and many people seemed to be either working already or inside. Even in the morning going towards noon it was hot! The pair of them did hope that perhaps they'd get a quest that would set them indoors in the cool since it was so muggy out.

The Quest Board was mostly devoid of options. Badrani wasn't sure whether she was worried about that (the quality of the 'slim pickings' as she'd heard it called in Common once might not be so great) or relieved (because she wouldn't have to read so much- she still wasn't perfect with her common script). Shahrazad settles back on her haunches, head tilted so that she could inspect a bit of something she had stuck between one of her claws and the fold of skin over them that made them retractable. "I'd love to learn to read." She mentions, as Badrani picks up one of the slips.
"As soon as I learn to read it with proficiency, you'll be next." Badrani promises her. She does mean it, but she knows that she has a long road ahead of her. Shahrazad knows as well, and she was ever patient. The slip that Badrani had picked up was hand-written, but very neat. She couldn't have been more relieved.

Of course, this was just the first of a small handful of slips, but Badrani had long ago learned to take the good when it managed to come for her. "Mousers... Wanted." Oh, so more pests indeed? It did sound like something that the pair of them could manage, already. "My farm... Overrun with Mice. Hiding out... In the barn." She manages to read out loud. "What do you think about it, Sha?" She turns to the draconic, even as she continues to read the slip between her claws. Shahrazad had finished picking the blade of grass that had managed to weasel itself into her claw sheath, and she was looking it over on the cobblestone.
"Are mice like bugs?" She asks.
"I think so." Badrani answers, a bit of humor leaking through her voice.
Shahrazad stands up quite abruptly. "Might as well! We should be quite skilled pest removers at this point." She jokes.

Badrani took a quick note of where this particular 'barn' was located. It did make her a little anxious, that they were once again going to someone in specific's property in order to work on this quest. There was still some amount of sensation in the back of her mind about how it should be trespassing. Then again, if she was asked to work on someone else's land... Even if this wasn't what she was used to- it was indeed a request. Just not as formal as she would have liked perhaps.
Shahrazad seemed to have no compunctions about such. Instead she actually seems... Excited? Badrani fights the urge to ask about it. Perhaps Shahrazad had began to find it fun to get rid of pests. Whenever they got to the property, the Ssashirk hesitates before stepping on the grass.
"I think you're supposed to knock on the door." Shahrazad snorts.

Badrani crinkles her muzzle. "I know that." She murmurs. She steps across the grass at that, not actually frustrated but feigning it anyway. She raps on the door with her scaled knuckles, and then she steps back a couple of steps. She was quite tall, and she was certain that she would intimidate most of the different types of denizens of the City. It turned out that she was right to do so, as the individual that opened the door was less than half her height; incredibly short. The tips of the individual's ears hardly reached the swell of her own hip. She bends her head respectfully, but knows not to bend down. "I am here to rid your pests." She says, proudly.
The individual is looking past her and towards Shahrazad for a moment, and then up to her. After giving them both another once over, they seem to decide that this pair will do.

The process was much more difficult than Badrani or Shahrazad had expected. Mice were not at all like Bugs; they were more like the tiny creatures that burrowed in the desert sands. They could not catch them no matter how hard they tried to. The creatures darted here and there and really everywhere- and hid beneath both the dirty hay and in the wooden walls of this so-called barn. The pair of them wasted a couple of hours trying before finally asking the denizen that owned it if perhaps they wouldn't mind if they got rid of the straw or sand-blasted the area. Whenever the individual gave the okay (thankfully!) the pair of them re-tried the same Sand-Storm blasting session tactic as they had the first time they'd been called to get rid of pests. This time, to much better results. The pair of them were able to eat their lunches on the lawn, to make sure that the job was done.
