The final question! What will it be? Throughout the course of these polls, we came up with a mysterious beast; a massive aquatic turtle, bigger than a man, with supernatural control over electricity. But what form will this strange beast finally take? The scientists at WELP have come up with a few options; A. Thunder rolls in the distance, ominous clouds surrounding the land's tallest peak... is what this creature evokes. A massive beast derived from snapping turtles, this creature's bite is thrice as bad as its bark, and its temper isn't much better. Its craggy back is surrounded by an eternally roiling cloud that crackles with electricity. We aren't entirely sure how it controls it, but it can fire a bolt at people with a mere glance if they happen to be too fast for this ornery beast to catch up with. A fantastic guardian for foggy mountain passes, but we wouldn't advise putting your fingers anywhere near its mouth... B. A smooth, supple softshell turtle from the darkest depths of the ocean. It waits patiently for prey while dangling a lure that, should the enraptured prey brush against it for just a moment, will immediately electrocute them as the predator surges forward to claim its prize. Its shell has paler patches that flash with light, communicating between individuals with flurries of color. This beast is sleek and elegant, but normally so still and patient as to be unnoticeable. In fact, it moves so infrequently that it's rumored that it only ever needs to come up for air once a month, on the full moon. C. A more energetic creature, this sea turtle spends most of its time in colorful reefs. It's frequently followed by schools of fish that hide in its shadow, using its size to stay safe from predators. It acts as a friendly guardian to the creatures around it, shielding young fish, playing with dolphins, and even towing lost sailors to shore by using its shell as a raft. Being larger and heavier than a human, there is little that can threaten it... but if something manages to breach that barrier of fear, this creature has an incredible power. Biological generators within its shell send bursts of electricity through its limbs, exploding from its flippers and creating a surge of energy that blasts it away from the surface of the water, allowing it to glide for sometimes dozens of feet before settling back down. Overall, I hope you enjoyed the event! Just like last year, I had a LOT of fun putting this together, and I hope you all did too! I am looking for feedback though; which questions did you like? Which didn't you like? Is there something you would prefer to be voting on that hasn't been offered before? Would you want fewer questions and thus a vaguer idea of what the creature is like resulting in more sketch options, or more questions that "hone in" on the final result a lot more and thus fewer sketch options? I can't wait to do this even better next year! In addition, because this poll was late going up and it's the most important one, I will be extending the timeframe of the poll; instead of closing at 12 (noon) on the 10th as the previous questions have, it will close at 10pm site/server time instead. The results will be announced on the 11th. Thank you again!

I personally picked B, but I was torn hardcore between it and A. But... B is so sleek and pretty looking, which is a difficult thing for turtles to pull off I feel like... and I have a bunch of softshell turtles at my apartment complex and I love them so much.

I adore B, that sleek design is just perfect. We also don't have anything remotely like the softshell on site.
EDIT: I'm also a sucker for curly tails, and bioluminescence!

I'd like to leave some feedback. I love the 'create a critter' event that you've been putting up the last couple of years and I am SO excited and hope it continues- even without changes!
However, I feel like there are too many choices and not enough voters onsite? We don't have a huge active userbase, and it still manages to feel like the only votes that count are the ones that kinda all dogpile on one idea (thus the rampant changes to votes that happen so that people feel like their vote 'counted').
I think it would be more indicative of what people actually wanted to see onsite if people got to maybe choose 2 Votes per the first 4 Possible Outcomes, and then an additional +1 Vote per person for each additional 3 Outcomes on top of that? That way we have a better idea of what everyone's 'overall' choices were, as opposed to feeling that need to change around votes to dogpile on one.
This feels really funky because sometimes my 'favorite' is just... Not gonna win, for sure, but I still have to vote for it because I want it; when I'd be fine with my second choice that would have a good chance of winning if people had more than one possible vote, you know?
A good example of one of the polls where I just... Knew that my vote wasn't going to 'count' if I chose what I Actually Wanted (which I did anyway, but after a lot of back and forth with myself) was the Element poll. That thing just had too many choices vs the single vote one gets to really get a good idea of what everyone's favorite ideas for the creature overall were.
(IE: With multiple votes, nearly everyone onsite could theoretically get their 1st/2nd/3rd choice instead of 2/5ths of the site getting their #1 favorite and everyone else being spread out over the other 6 (losing) elements.)
EDIT- Or, perhaps they could be done in one of those secure offsite forms that get used sometimes? Where we have to add our usernames to be able to vote, so that we make sure everyone gets one vote? At the very least, it would be much harder to change votes and dogpile on the thing that looks like it is winning.

As much as I love weird curly guys, and I'd be happy if B won, in the end I couldn't say no to a pet covered in literal stormclouds. Plus I said already that I wanted a pointy crocodile... but pointy tortoise also good.

I choose C. because that one reminded me of Ashe and her comment about surfing on top of a turtle in one of the previous polls, that I think after some thoughts would actually be neat to have. Plus, I love the appearance of that one, the flippers and especially the ears look awesome in the design.
Hey Fiera Ferella, since A and C currently are a tie, or even with one vote more on B for all three.. Is it even possible for the turtle species to have breed difference in appearance too? Should that be the outcome? Because I have to say, it seems like all your designs are very much loved by everyone. X3

Hi Twilight! Honestly, it's really cool to see that people like all of these designs so much! If we get a tie, we'll be going into a tie-breaker round. :3 If that's the case, I'd probably come up with a couple of breeds for each, or even see if I can find a polling website (Like Renathan mentioned) that allows for second choices too to see if we can come to some sort of compromise. (Plus, while we've only had 2 Create a Critter contests in HxR history right now, the losing designs aren't going in the garbage! It would be nice to recycle some of them some day, or even run a "runners up" contest some time in the future... but probably the distant future, as otherwise the contest would be all turtles and weird blobs from last year. XD)

Heheh, I know it's a longshot and also WAAAY too much work (linearting and shading takes FOREVER), but if any species deserved to have more than two different linearts for breeds (like Vulticus Does) it would be this one. All three of these are so cool in their own ways. <3

If you wanted more creative freedom in the end sketches, you might be able to reframe the questions of the polls to be more vague.
For example, instead of after we voted reptile, then going on to 'what kind of reptile?' we could go on to something like 'what kind of skin (bumpy, smooth, large scales, small scales)' or 'how many legs (0, 2, 4, 6)' or 'what extra features (fins, shell, wings, stinger)'. This allows us to piecemeal a creature together without it being based on a kind-of-specific kind of animal.
Just a thought!

It would be hilarious if even at the tiebreaker round the votes still end up being the same. x3
I think I remember we did something like that with a official contest to vote for our favorite new vsc breed or rare breed that would come in the contest hall and fighting pit and that a different site was used for it, I don't think I actually know who won it to be honest.
I'm glad though that the loosing designs won't be completely lost then, and one day could still get a new purpose, looking at what the votes are like right now, we're only missing one voter on it so my favorite might, or might not end up being on the losing side. And yeah, I can understand that, not enough choice yet on the runner up being possible. Might be two or so years I'm guessing before such a possibility can come. :D
