A while back, Renathan had been the steward of a lotine named Princess, that had since gone to a new home with someone that had a garden that was quite lotine-less beforehand. Princess had produced several lola, and one of those had been a little white and brown-banded lola that Renathan had affectionately named Rabbit- who was part of the reason that Princess had been rehomed. Lotine did not get along well in the same garden, so once Renathan had allowed Rabbit to grow by feeding her a potion- he found himself quite surprised that the mother and daughter pair immediately fell into conflict. Princess was easily rehomed, since Lotine are excellent pest control overall- and Rabbit tended to be quiet and very shy. Renathan could hardly keep his eyes on her, even when he went to the garden to feed the creatures there and searched for her specifically! He was shocked to find one day that she was preparing to produce a lola of her own.

Renathan was generally doting in his animal husbandry duties, but it was quite hard to tell anything about the ever reclusive Rabbit when she hardly allowed him even the faintest glimpse of her banded tail. Still, he was prepared. There were services out there that did quickly offer to come and get Lotine that needed to be taken to the Breeding Center whenever they were getting ready to produce lola, now that they were rather discouraged from producing them within the confines of the gardens (which was much more risky and often had the lotine producing lola that would simply float away...). Renathan called up one of these services as quickly as he could so that Rabbit wouldn't have to be coaxed to the Breeding Center in her state. He'd done that a few different times with Princess, and it had never turned out very well. Stressing out a lotine close to the time of production was a bad idea.

This was also Rabbit's first production time as far as Renathan knew. Some lotine produced monthly, but Princess tended to take a little longer each time that she had. As for Rabbit, Renathan had no idea whatsoever how often her production periods would be. For now, the most important thing was to get her to the breeding center so that the lola could be born in a safe and sterile environment as opposed to out in the open. The individual that was meant to courier Rabbit got there quite quickly and picked her up, and Renathan traveled with them on foot. He was quite worried about her, since he hadn't seen her do this quite yet so he didn't have a good grasp of how close she was to production other than 'wow that looks close!'. That was worrying in and of itself! He did have the time and wherewithal to bring some of her favorite fish with them though.

It seemed like most lotine preferred the rainbow-scaled fishes. He'd bought a whole breeding stock of every kind of fish the Nature's Bounty had, so it hadn't took him too long to grab some out of the reserve pond he kept and to bring them along. They made it to the breeding center incredibly quickly, what with Rabbit being carried in a carrier atop a cart, and after Renathan paid the assistant he took Rabbit inside swiftly. There were hardly ever any customers in the center that had Lotine, so he knew he wouldn't have to wait a long time past filling out his paperwork to be able to get a room suitable for her. There were a few people ahead of him, he noticed as they entered the lobby. Rabbit was typically very shy, even with Renathan, but she stuck to him like glue because she was most likely confused and scared of individual she'd never seen before.

Renathan was grateful for Rabbit sticking near him, since she was generally quite fearful. A panicked animal freaking out in close quarters would never be a good thing. Instead of panicking, she was sticking close to him and giving on the lightest of semi-aggressive 'keep away from me' displays due to her condition. Renathan didn't touch her, and instead he just coaxed her to enter the line with him at the end of the line (there were only about three people ahead of them) and then he fed her one of the littlest rainbow fishes. He wanted to keep her calm, without overexciting her stomach. This seemed to do the trick, and it kept her from paying too much attention to those around them. It looked like all the people ahead of them in the line had orbaru- and though Renathan would have given anything to be here with orbaru himself, he was quite happy that no one seemed to have a lotine.

Lotine were often very aggressive with other lotine, and he doubted that Rabbit would be an exception if there had been another lotine here. Two fighting lotine in a small room would have been a disaster. Thankfully, it was few and far between that lotine were taken in anymore. So Renathan waited in the line patiently for the first three people in it to finish doing their paperwork and then to go ahead and get sat down before he would move forward. Lotine were not nearly as graceful on land as they were in the water, and Rabbit was both having a hard time and had a wild look about her facial expression that was quite abnormal for her. Renathan would not have wanted to know what she was 'thinking', if one could put it that way. He knew that lotine were supposed to be quite clever, and he wasn't sure how to quell her anxieties.

Rabbit was indeed in a delicate way, so Renathan wanted to make her as comfortable as possible as swiftly as possible. As soon as he made it to the front desk her quickly did the paperwork, and since there was only one creature to be registered instead of two it was quite a bit quicker as a process than doing the same thing for two orbaru and having to note their parentage. Lotine parentage hardly seemed to matter much, so it was not asked for nearly as much, and it was generally not as prone to long lineages as Orbaru tended to be. Renathan finishes the paperwork very quickly and sat down to feed Rabbit another of the rainbow fish while she waited. She did seem to prefer those, though he could never tell if it was because she preferred the bright rainbow colors or if they really did taste any different to her.

The russet mammalian was most certainly not going to taste any of the rainbow fishes himself, let alone the other colors to see if he could discern any differences- so he was left to speculate only. He had been told that they were 'better quality' fish, but what exactly did that mean? Were they simply tastier, more attractive to the eye, or were they more nutritious? He wasn't left very long to consider it before someone came to lead him back to the room for his lotine. He really couldn't have been any more thankful for the quick service. He'd already be late for work today, but he was sure that his apprentices would understand the emergent nature of the situation... Especially since these sorts of things didn't happen very often at all. Once he and the lotine were lead to the room and the door was opened to them, Renathan coaxed rabbit inside with another of the rainbow fishes.

The room was like any other lotine room that he had seen so far. Perhaps he'd always been shown to the same one? He wouldn't be surprised. He hadn't seen another lotine breeder around in... Well, he couldn't quite remember the last time he'd seen another lotine breeder around. It would seem that they tended not to come into season around the same time? He wasn't entirely too certain. Perhaps he should do more research on lotine in the future. He knew just enough to ensure his lotine's health and safety and that was about it. Rabbit scarfed down that rainbow fish that Renathan had tossed into the room, as she sat on the faux grass that was placed on the floor. She seemed a lot less nervous now that she was a relatively safe place with a bit more privacy. Renathan knew that whenever Lotine got ready to produce, they tended to hide away.

Time passed relatively quickly, it felt like. Perhaps it was because Renathan was late for work, or perhaps it really was relatively quick, but the lotine nearly immediately moved out across the small pool that was placed in the room for Lotine use and then she drags herself up on the other side where she could duck beneath a pseudo wood hollow (like a tree stump almost) so that she could feel more secluded. Renathan picked at the pages of a magazine he found on a table nearby instead of staring at her. He couldn't find anything in the magazine that he felt like reading! He finally looks up, and maneuvers his standing position so that he could catch a glimpse at how her bloom looked. That was generally a good indicator of how close she was to the moment of lola production. Oh, it looked like she was quite close! He struggled not to feel too nervous about it.
