Tricks to Train Come Don't Eat That! Follow Lay Down Name Stay
'This place is strange' thought Xandrew. All the new sights, smells, and peoples moving about the place with ease made him slightly uncomfortable, though he'd never admit it. After asking for directions from many people and hours of getting lost, and distracted, Xandrew found the labs and adopted a few critters to be his own. Eager to try his luck with his selections, he trotted off in the direction of the park. An hour later and more than a few detours left him inside the park and sitting on the grass watching his Noctis, Bigmouth, lazily moving about.

Xandrew nibbled on a sandwich and took a drink of water and continued to watch his critter move about. He had been tossing around names in his head and had settled on a fitting name, Bigmouth. "Bigmouth, come here" Xandrew said toward his Noctis. The Noctis paid him no mind and continued to move about seemingly aimless. Xandrew finished his meal and sat his drink down on the grass to stand up. "Bigmouth, come here buddy" Xandrew stated once again. This time he at waved him, but again the Noctis paid no mind and began scratching at the grassy area with its clawed toes. Xandrew frowned a little bit, but knew all things took time. He moved in front of the Noctis and looked down at the little creature. Once again, he said "Bigmouth." The Noctis seemed to react to his voice this time, but was more annoyed than anything.
Xandrew's Noctis turned away and scratched at the now upturned earth. It kicked up dirt far easier than something its size would suggest it would. Xandrew moved again, this time to its side and repeated its name. "Bigmouth, come on buddy." The Noctis turned toward him this time with its large eyes. Its large mouth agap and nipped toward Xandrew's outstretched hand. The little guy trotted off a few feet and began scratching at a new plot of grass and then the dirt underneath. Xandrew looked into the air and wondered how long it would take to get this Noctis to pay attention to him. The clouds were in no distinct pattern, but his mind began to wonder. His eyes had glazed over and he wasn't sure how long had passed. He shook the fog from his mind. Xandrew looked over toward Bigmouth and saw him kick up a fat grub from the dirt with his clawed foot.
Bigmouth nosed at the fat grub and lifted it up with its lips. He turned his head up and the fat grub disappeared into his bitey mouth. Bigmouth made a delighted coo and scratched the dirt some more. "So you're hungry. Let's find you some more of those 'tastey' grubs, shall we" Xandrew thought to himself. Xandrew knelt down and moved the dirt from Bigmouth's first scratching spot with his hands and fingers. After a few minutes he had found three rather plump grubs. Xandrew placed them in the container he had brought his sandwich in and took another drink of water. Xandrew sat back down and looked up just in time to see Bigmouth tilt his head back and swallow another grub. Bigmouth cooed and turned slightly to scratch a new spot. He scratched for several minutes and nosed the ground multiple times without any more luck.
Bigmouth was beginning to become more noticeably agitated. Xandrew assumed it was because he wasn't having anymore luck with finding more grubs to devour. "Bigmouth, I found some tastey grubs for you!" The Noctis ignored him once more. Xandrew stood back up and moved toward the cute little creature. "Bigmouth, I've got something for you." Xandrew set the container on the ground in front of his Noctice and stepped back slightly. Bigmouth slowly moved up to it and looked inside. He made a sound once again. This one also seemed like it was pleased have found what he had. Bigmouth leaned down and went to grasp the grubs in his lips like before, but he was unable to do so. The container was just deep enough that he couldn't quite get them into his mouth. Xandrew felt bad for the little guy. "Let me help you with that."
Xandrew slowly reached down and picked up the container and picked up a grub in his fingers. "Here you go, Bigmouth." His Noctis perked up and raised its head up with its mouth agape. Xandrew dropped the grub into Bigmouth's waiting maw. A pleased coo preceded a wide mouth and noise that Xandrew interpreted as "more". He once again picked up a grub and dropped it into waiting mouth below. Xandrew petted Bigmouth's little head and said, "who's a good boy?". "Is it Bigmouth?". The little creature opened its mouth once again expectingly. Xandrew took the last grub from the container and deposited it where the other two had disappeared into. "That's a good boy, Bigmouth." The little Noctis cooed and looked up at him. Its eyes seemed to have a bit of understanding in them this time. The little creature's posture had relaxed more and seemed to be less agitated now.

Bigmouth trotted around and scratched at the ground once more with his foot. Apparently one grub wasn't enough for the little creature, and he was back at it. Xandrew was surprised at how easily Bigmouth tilled the ground with his tiny claws. With another scrape, the Noctis revealed a worm and it greedily gobbled it up. With a cooing sound, it danced happily in place and looked over at Xandrew expectantly. "Good job, Bigmouth." It danced happily again and went back to its tilling. Xandrew continued collecting grubs for his upcoming fishing trip and was distracted to what Bigmouth was doing. Bigmouth surprised Xandrew by trotting over to the container and dropping a fat grub into the container. Xandrew petted Bigmouth's head again and said "Good boy, good boy!" Looking up at Xandrew with a toothy mischievous grin, he dropped his face down into the container and began to gobble all of the grubs inside.
Xandrew looked at his Noctis. Its little legs were flailing around in the air, and Xandrew could hear slurping and smacking sounds. Content coos echoed out of the cooler for about a minute until Bigmouth realized that he had made an error in judgment. The little creature's head was stuck, and try as it might it couldn't pull it out of the cooler. Xandrew was upset at first, but the hilarious sight of the poor Noctis made him laugh. "I suppose that's punishment enough. Karma got you good and fast, didn't it?" Xandrew chuckled as he reached over and helped Bigmouth pull the cooler free revealing the Noctis' big eyes and gapping mouth. Bigmouth sneezed and cocked his head while doing a little jig as if to say 'thank you' to Xandrew. The cute display earned the little Noctis a pat on the head and a "good boy" once more.
Bigmouth trotted over to a good sized rock and sat down on it. "Come here Bigmouth. Let's play" said Xandrew as he fished around in his bag. Bigmouth rocked his stubby feet back and forth slowly before letting out a content coo before abruptly plopping down the rest of the way on his back. His little tail twitched and flicked as he snoozed. It wasn't long until Xandrew could hear the little creature snoring away. "You little bugger, you" Xandrew stated as he went back to grub hunting. About twenty minutes had passed and Xandrew had managed to collect quite a number of grubs and worms before Bigmouth rolled over and trotted back over to the cooler. "Bigmouth." The little Noctis kept moving toward the cooler without paying much attention to Xandrew. "Bigmouth come here" waved Xandrew again. Bigmouth stopped and looked over at Xandrew and saw the grub in his hand and cooed, but took another step toward the cooler.

Xandrew raised his voice an octave and said "Bigmouth, come here boy." Bigmouth stopped and looked eagerly at both the grub in Xandrew's hand and the cooler that he invariable suspected had more tasty, tasty goodies inside. The little Noctis appeared conflicted and moved its head back and forth from looking at the cooler and the lone grub. "Bigmouth, come on boy." Suddenly the little Noctis came trotting over to Xandrew and rubbed against his leg and opened his mouth wide for his reward. Xandrew dropped the grub into the gaping maw and repeated "That's a good boy. Who's a good little Bigmouth?" The little Noctis looked up with its tongue hanging out of the side of its mouth sloppily and bobbed its head up and down almost knowingly. "That's right. You are." Xandrew petted the little Noctis on its little head and walked over to the cooler and closed the lid.
Bigmouth was a cute little bugger, which was almost the complete reason that Xandrew picked him up for adoption, but he had grown to like Bigmouth's playfulness and companionship. It was good to feel grounded again, like he had found home. The more crowded part of the city still had more noise than he cared for. Indeed Xandrew preferred his cozy cave, which he had quickly furnished with the necessary accoutrement to live comfortably when staying in town became stifling. Of course there was always the call of the sea, which his grandfather always talked about both wistfully and awe stricken at times. Words simply could not capture how he or his grandfather felt about it and for the creatures that reside there. His grandfather had spoken of their peoples' history. Many explorers were among them, and almost all could be considered sailors. It had been a good day thus far.
Xandrew looked down at the little Noctis, which appeared to be drifting again. Its poor little head bobbed up and down with sleep. Its little mouth slightly agape. "Bigmouth, let's take a nap." The little Noctis looked up and tilted its head to the side while following Xandrew to a near by tree. Xandrew laid a dark green blanket down under its shade and sat down. He patted the blanket next to him and ushered Bigmouth to join him. The Notis did not require much convincing and stepped onto the blanket near the corner. With a plop, he was laying down, had the corner of the blanket in his mouth, and rolled toward Xandrew. Xandrew raised an eyebrow as he watched Bigmouth make himself into a happy little cacoon. He could hear soft content cooing sounds come from underneath the blanket. Xandrew shrugged while thinking to himself "as long as he's happy." Then smiled.
An hour or so had past while the two laid under that blossoming tree. Dew dripped from the white budding flowers, which left the air smelling of sweet nectar. Xandrew could almost imagine the taste of honey with each breath he took. Its sweet luscious being on his lips and tongue. He made a mental note to add it to his next shopping list and probably a sweet or two, maybe three. Xandrew yawned and carefully stood up to gather his things. Placing all he had brought into his bags, he put the straps over his shoulders. His little slumbering Noctis was still snoozing wrapped in the soft dark green blanket with small bits of grass hanging from it. Xandrew carefully lifted the swaddled Noctis us and carried it like a babe in his arms toward the front gate of the park. Upon reaching the gate, he looked back and knew he'd return soon.
Turning back to face the exit, a sweet little lady of venerable age was walking with her granddaughter into the park. The grandmother looked at the swaddled green blanket and gushed at Xandrew. "Babies! I just love them. Is it a boy or girl?" Xandrew tried to respond thoroughly. "It's a boy, but.." The grandmother smiled wide with a healthy showing of gums with her mouth rounding in accentuated with deep wrinkles. "Oh, what a strong little tike. What is his name?" Xandrew worked to get a word in. "Well, its Bigmouth, but.." The smile on her lips curved slightly with her eyes squinting slightly. "That's a peculiar name, dear." Her smile returned twice as wide and her eyes shown bright with apparent misunderstanding. "Oh, its a nickname! He must have powerful lungs, and I bet his smile is just beautiful! Let me see him. He must be simply precious."
Xandrew thought nothing of it and uncovered his Noctis' face to let the elderly woman see under the dark green cloth. "AHH!" The woman stepped backward in dismay. Her face quickly shifting from the original smile, to puzzlement, and finally settling on anger. The granddaughter that had been impatiently waiting giggled and tugged at her grandmother's dress. "Gram'ma that's a Noctis! It isn't dangerous, silly!" The grandmother's face looked between her granddaughter Xandrew and back before she grabbed the granddaughter's hand and swiftly walked into the park without another word. Xandrew shrugged and continued down the path toward home. "I guess she's never seen a sleeping Noctis before." He thought as he shifted the weight of his tiny companion from one are to the other. "If I have to carry Bigmouth home too many more times, I might just buy him a stroller. He weighs a much as a sack of potatoes!" Xandrew chuckled to himself.

Darky: I may have looked into things before.. x3

Riku: I love it when you walk into a room like "Oh, ye, hear thine wisdom." <3 It never ceases to amaze me.
Jul 3, 2020 4:10:33 GMT -6
Darky: From what I've looked at things over the years, both sides are actually correct: the elements do need some fleshing out, but they are also very much their own types of style/flavour/effect as well. Still, one doesn't have to compromise the other x3
Jul 3, 2020 2:23:22 GMT -6
Riku: I think Morgan's attempt was less of a "do this now plz?" and more of a "Can we simply acknowledge that this is where we eventually want to go?" -shrug- // Congrats to the agility winners! <3

Riku: For instance, elements can be perceived different than usual. Like Shadow not being evil, or acid being direct and immediate harsh damage rather than a DOT. Things can also get interesting when you mix elements. So imagine a DOT cold move, etc.
Jul 2, 2020 21:33:19 GMT -6
Riku: I also came to the conclusion about every element having the different techs, but like mentioned it would be a massive overhaul so I just didn't mention it. lol I do feel like elements should be more flavor than technique, therefore all having all techs.
Jul 2, 2020 21:30:49 GMT -6
Morgan: I wish I could thumbs-up a cboxpost. /laugh/ If the nerf goes through, they could be made NRS and nerfed down to the other similar moves. But this was just the heart of my first suggestion here, I was hoping to make more as time goes on.
Jul 2, 2020 20:01:13 GMT -6
Haix: We have moves like deluge/harsh gust that cost 7/8 tp, deal 10 fit damage, but lack the NRS modifier that would make them as powerful. Maybe they could be altered slightly to be on a similar level as they have the same cost?
Jul 2, 2020 19:59:20 GMT -6
Morgan: You're right, they're not suited for the only fighting we've ever had on site up to this point.
Jul 2, 2020 19:59:14 GMT -6
Morgan: I agree, but we definitely Do Not Have Those at the moment.
Jul 2, 2020 19:58:55 GMT -6
Aster: Mmm, I dunno if they're not 'good' so much as not really suited for the only type of fighting we have access to, which is one on one. I think the metagame would be pretty different with like, the boss battle type fights Skylark had been workshopping before
Jul 2, 2020 19:58:07 GMT -6
Morgan: I know that curses/poisons are a thing, but there's a reason no one uses those. They aren't technically... Good. (Not with fltnrs10 around. While someone is trying to drain the person's stuff, which doesn't work with hardy anyway, the fltnrs10 kills.)
Jul 2, 2020 19:54:14 GMT -6
Morgan: And if it isn't overpowered for one element to have the tech, then it shouldn't be for others (obvious exception is physical) because the same rules go for all resistances/immunities save for physical. Nothing was meant to be resistant to every element.
Jul 2, 2020 19:51:51 GMT -6
Morgan: Doing it in pieces would be best, because other than spirit's little blurbs (which we've changed other things before for the good of the site) the elements aren't really set in stone with tech choices. Moves were added fairly often before.
Jul 2, 2020 19:49:01 GMT -6
Morgan: I know, but I've been suggesting it for... Quite some time.
Jul 2, 2020 19:47:55 GMT -6
Aster: That would be a pretty big rehaul of the current movepool P:
