Tournament Ideas There seems to be quite a list of tournaments we haven't touched on, either ever or in a long time! I feel this needs to be fixed. If there are any styles you would like to see soon, please let me know whatever information you would like to include and we'll see what we can come up with! For right now, I was thinking on starting some tournaments based on the "Dweller" abilities and changing the appearance in the Pit to match whichever one is running. The pet you enter wouldn't necessarily have to have that ability to enter, but it would definitely make things a lot more fun and interesting! Another option is element based, where everything would have to be either Fire and Cold, Earth and Water, whatever combos we can think of! I just think it would be interesting to see how things match up. We could also have a tournament based on a theme, as obscure as they might be. "Midnight", "Ocean Depths", "Stars", etc. There is also the option to draw parallels to Pokemon types. It would be interesting to compare the 2 sets of types, us vs. Pokemon. If you have any suggestions on the subject or have a request for what to see, please post here!

Perhaps one where stamina is changed to âhealthâ, to extend battlesâŚ? Or one where certain moves are banned, like nothing physical? Or only moves that do less than 5 base damage (with a power level limit to make sure no one has like 5 resistance. Lol)
Maybe a mix-and-match tournament with unexpected rules. No theme just sort of come up with a bunch of hoops to jump through for peopleâs training. The best part is that nowadays (as long as itâs in the base stats) we can just adventure with our creatures use levels to âbuyâ moves and abilities. ;) So it would be less daunting to have to start from âscratchâ.
Example:
-no creature with the base color of blue -no fire, water, or light moves -no sound based moves -nothing 10+ base damage
Or
-no flat damage moves -no physical âelementâ moves -nothing ranged -no magic -nothing over PL5

If we're going for limits, could be cool to see a strictly W.E.L.P. tournament. I'd love having Dweller-based matches, whether something like guaranteed stages or a 'World Tour' that randomizes which one you will be fighting on a given round. Limiting elements might be a little difficult, due to the way immunities/resistances can be stacked on, but I'd probably be interested in that as well. Could even steal some of the existing holiday names for the site to name them based on whatever element is being used.
I'd also love one based on particular traits(traits due to customs/halfbreeds/etc being a bit hard to place sometimes), like here's a dragon tournament, enter Tat-Lung, Wiurn, Sarane and so on, or here's a bird fight, throw in anything that has a beak.
Speaking of themes and Pokemon, a hybrid contest/fight would be pretty neat. Maybe having a slightly more complex win/lose by the players having a sum of points won at the end of each fight(used moves within/outside theme, repeated move too often, 'win' the fight, made a combo, etc to determine points) so players get to decide if they stay in theme or step outside of it to get the points from knocking out their opponent.
Maybe an Intruder class, where one of the NPC bosses are on the field, and folks have to decide to team up with their PvP opponent to take it out before fighting one another, or hope they can take out their primary opponent while the boss is attacking them both.
For existing ones I would like to see again, I'm not too picky. Tag Team, that non-unique one, Monstrous, and Flying are the ones I am most interested in, and a tiny bit towards Aquatic more than the others not listed here. I'd also like to know exactly what is the 'Environmental Disaster' class, because that 'vague and mysterious hand waving' has me intrigued. XD

The NPC third-participant in the battle idea sounds awesome! Also the one about points awarded for certain things. I like the idea of not just having everyone spam the same super-attack the whole tournament. Lol

I honestly really like all of these ideas so far! This, by far, is the one that has me excited, giddy, and bouncing in my seat at the prospect. Maybe an Intruder class, where one of the NPC bosses are on the field, and folks have to decide to team up with their PvP opponent to take it out before fighting one another, or hope they can take out their primary opponent while the boss is attacking them both. This is going to happen sometime, and I'm gambling on it being soon!

Yeah, I love the idea of the "Intruder" tournament and the "specific phylum (ie dragon, canine, bird, etc.) ones the most, haha. :3c

Someday when enough high leveled ones exist, it would be cool to have a tournament of the familiars. đŽâđ¨

Oooh, I like that idea too, Riku! :0 You're right in that we'd probably need more characters with familiars to pull it off, but that's definitely one I'd be interested in running.

Hmm, I dunno about a familiar specific tournament just because it's baked into their mechanics that they lose 75% of their loyalty upon death, and given that familiars tend to be small with very low Stamina, there's a non-zero chance one might actually go below the threshold for death. (familiars might not have very high strength totals either, but some creatures still have access to powerful flat damage moves, and with magic on the table, there's also spells)
I know it's each user's choice to participate, but with that caveat I definitely wouldn't enter, unless there was some kind of exception being made for the tournament itself.
Not that it's confirmed to be happening or anything, I know that, but just my two cents on the concept while it's being discussed.

That is a *very* valid issue. It could be fixed by having it on a health system. Perhaps stamina x20 and then enchant the pit to prevent death, no matter the ending stamina. That way no one loses loyalty and battles can last more than one round. :)

For tournaments I think that wouldn't come into effect.
My reasoning is that there are trained professionals to heal pets who show up almost instantly, absolutely under 10 seconds. We can fudge it a little if we do this.
Edit: For scheduled fights, we can definitely fudge the system a bit when it comes to this sort of issue. However, don't assume which ones will be ignored/changed/whatever. We'll try to note what's different for the specific mechanics we think of, but it's entirely possible something could be missed. If that happens, shoot a PM to whoever is the main mod for the tournament and we'll have an answer shortly.

so of course I'm always interested in Sarane tournaments, heh
as for special tournaments - I've been mulling over a physical only tournament! without a ohko I feel like more physical based critters need more love. the catch with that is there's so many creatures 'touched' with an element - I think it would be neat to still be able to enter the arena and let them compete without their elements, too!
so for this idea, the tournament could operate under an 'arcane barrier' which nullifies magic. something like "The city's magi have created a nullification barrier over the Pit for a special physical-only tournament! Their Magishield barrier will prevent any schools of magic or elements from being cast, setting up for our most brutal, bloody season yet! That's right folks, a season of nothing but pure physical prowess! We strongly urge citizens to leave their familiars, elemental and otherwise innately magical creatures home, for the shield might.... interfere with their arcane nature."
nothing outside of the 'physical' category can be used, plus perhaps some other moves that could be discussed on a per-entrant basis. ie the pliathor who creates a Deluge by slapping the water with their body could use that move, but one who generates water spouts from within their body could not do so. that damage could also be converted to physical damage for the tourney? could also be a fun occasional sarane tourney modifier, with how many super-injected ones we have hanging around.
just a goofy one I've been thinking of!
