Leafy felt a rush of happiness when she realized that Axis was behaving calmly. Maybe there was hope for him after all! Antony relaxed somewhat when he realized nothing disastrous was about to occur. Now he could focus on keeping Leafy safe from the mansion dangers. He might not be the best battler, but he could handle the mansion’s strange magic. Axis seemed better when he had something to grab his attention. For now, that would be the strange properties of the sand in this room. At least he couldn’t harm sand. Leafy couldn’t say she cared if he destroyed the sand furniture. After all, she had tried to herself.
“Make sure he doesn’t get into trouble,” she told Antony as she moved away from Axis and over towards a bookshelf. The fact that it was constructed from sand was still odd. Would the sand destroy the pages on the books? She picked up one and tried to read it, frowning when she realized it was in a language that she didn’t know.
“This one is useless. It’s written in gibberish!” she told Antony. He huffed in amusement.
“Just because you can’t read it, doesn’t mean it’s not a proper language!”

Leafy rolled her eyes and tossed the book to the side, not caring if she damaged it. After all, it was worthless to her. Antony cringed as the book hit the sand. If they had been closer to the waves, water would have certainly damaged it. Leafy didn’t care much about object preservation. Axis seemed to be much the same way. He had grown tired of trying to destroy the sand and instead was lazily gnawing on the side of the chair as he watched the girl throw more books on the ground.
“That’s not very respectful,” Antony remarked.
“Then maybe the mansion should show me something I can actually read!” Leafy grumbled.
Leafy’s spirited attitude was a remarkable improvement over how she had been lately. Tackling a dangerous project like Axis would do well for snapping her out of the funk she was in. Antony couldn’t help but worry about the young girl. She had always been unusual, but she had been acting even more strange as of late. It wasn’t her usual brand of strange. Antony was used to her strange ramblings and impulsive tendencies. But she had been more withdrawn lately, subdued. He needed to get her back in the mood to fight monsters.

Quickly, Antony caught the scent of a little creature within the room. Axis was quick to notice the change in scent as well. He tilted his head, his ears pricked forward and nose twitching as he tried to track down where it was located. It didn’t take too long. A small shape burst from the sand, scuttling across the floor like a wayward insect. Leafy mind was quick to offer the word crab, but this one didn’t look like an ordinary one. She observed it for a moment, waiting to see what both of her pets would do. Before Axis could attack it, Antony darted forward and daintily picked up the creature between his jaws.
Axis let out a low, disappointed growl but he didn’t move to attack. After all, the cave Vulticus was too odd to be much of a competition for him. Antony padded over to Leafy and carefully dropped the pocketpet into her awaiting hands. Leafy smiled in thanks and quickly stuffed the creature in her bag before Axis could steal it from her. She stuck her tongue out at the Gallor who thankfully didn’t understand the gesture enough to be offended by it. Antony snorted in amusement.

“You shouldn’t tempt him into attacking. He doesn’t like you that much yet,” he teased her.
Leafy rolled her eyes in response even though she knew that Antony’s words had merit. Axis was a little bit of an enigma. He endlessly fascinated her, but he also scared her. Not that Leafy was the type to readily admit that. The sand room still hadn’t been properly explored and she wanted it to reveal its secrets to her. She took a moment to truly observe for signs of monsters or the like. She had been out of practice for a while and she wanted now to get back into the swing of things. She would find a monster.
With Axis in her arsenal, she would have a good chance of defeating the monster. She wasn’t quite sure how Axis would respond to one, but she had a feeling that he would eat it. That fact would have to be in consideration when she planned her strategy. She decided to start by looking for monster footprints. If there were any in the sand, then she’d know there was something to be found. She tilted her head as she did her best to stare at the sand.

Axis soon became interested in Leafy as the girl began to behave oddly. At least according to the Gallor she was. For Antony, this was pretty par for the course with the girl. The Gallor shuffled closer to Leafy. His posture was relaxed, so Antony wasn’t fearful that she was in immediate danger. Leafy tilted her head, trying to make shapes out of the indents in the sand. When she saw something that vaguely looked like a footprint, she called out in delight.
“Look! There is indeed a monster about!” she decided.
Axis seemed to feed off of her change in mood. He became more energetic as well, though his was a more destructive kind of energy. He stalked around the room, snapping his jaws menacingly at an invisible foe. Antony watched him warily. Axis’s behavior was unpredictable at best. He was a destructive force that appeared even more dangerous than his menacing appearance indicated. The beach was thankfully pretty hard for a Gallor to destroy with teeth and claws alone. Had there been some proper furniture to destroy, then the mansion might have to employ some self-preservation methods. Antony prodded Leafy to move along, not wanting to allow Axis free reign for much longer.

Deciding to humor Antony’s desperate attempts to leave the room, she decided to follow him. The door was heavier than anticipated. She had to push her entire weight behind it before it opened. Axis was quick to dart through the door once his freedom was assured. Antony and Leafy both followed him, not wanting to leave him alone to his own devices. Who knows what might end up destroyed? The new room was filled with an eerie darkness. It was like dusk had fallen on the mansion, but the outside time was still daylight. That type of magic was always unnerving.
“If you can see better than me, you’d better find some treasure,” she told Antony. The Vulticus practically rolled his eyes as he responded.
“It’s not like I have nightvision. We’re both running quite blind in the dark.”
Leafy huffed in disappointment. If there was treasure to be found, then it wouldn’t be so easy to find it. Leafy decided to start by crawling around on the sand. The room was quite difficult to make out in the dark. The presence of sand instead of proper flooring was consistent between the rooms, however. Perhaps if she dug, she could find something of use.

February Leafy felt as though she had experienced another one of those strange periods of time loss. The sort of thing where she couldn't quite remember what she had just been doing moments before and all her memories felt like a rapidly fading dream. Her arms were wrapped around a tiny, baby Wiurn. She didn't know much about him, mostly that she had given him the name Kilowatt. He appeared to have a bit of an electrical alignment, so the name was certainly fitting. She carried him through the foyer of the mansion, a vague sense of recognition covering her like a layer of fog. “I suppose we ought to stick around some. There might be a reason that we’re here that I’ve simply forgotten,” she remarked out loud. Kilowatt didn’t seem to mind much. His eyes were wide and curious as he observed their strange, old timey surroundings. Victorian was not a very in style these days. (Kilowatt 0 1/5, 10 1/5) 1

"We were probably in the middle of doing something very important," Leafy said.
The baby Wiurn gave a snort but then stared up at Leafy with his strangely coloured eyes. She tilted her head as she watched him, fearful for a moment that he might disappear between her fingers. Before she could let the thought consume her, she decided to take a hands on approach in exploring the mansion. She knew that was where they were since she'd been there enough times to sense the strange, shifting energy that permeated the area. They clearly hadn't ventured very far in considering the large door located to her left appeared to be the entrance. Or at least, she got this vague sense that she had entered through there at some point.
"Well, you can pick where we head to first. I don't think this room is going to give us much." She told Kilowatt.

He made no reply other than to stare into her face. It reminded her of a puppy that was trying to comprehend why it wasn't allowed outside yet. She sighed, soon giving up on getting a proper answer from him.
“We’ll go through the far door then. Since it’s further away, we shouldn’t have been there yet.”
She shrugged and moved over towards it, noting that the door didn't appear particularly remarkable. It was wooden and painted white, though the paint was dingy and peeling. The handle was black and curved elegantly. She turned it with ease and pushed it open. When she stepped into the next room, Leafy was immediately greeted by the sight of a long, dark hallway. That's when she realized how odd this was; she had that same sense of vague familiarity that had been plaguing her since she regained awareness.
“Guess I picked the one we’ve actually already been to,” she muttered.

This wasn't the first time she'd been in this layout of the mansion. However, she couldn't recall anything she'd done in the last few months or so. The feeling was overwhelming. She hugged Kilowatt a little tighter as she stepped into the hallway. There wasn't much use in staying in one location. After all, she had a purpose for being here. Even if she couldn't quite recall what that was.
"I was probably looking for something. Adventure or treasure, those are always two safe bets!" She smiled down at Kilowatt. Her personality didn't feel quite right. She knew she was simply going through the motions. She needed to figure herself out once again. A task that hadn't really been accomplished for the duration of her entire life.
She made the executive decision to start moving down the hall, hyper aware of each shadow that moved and noise that echoed in the distance.

She realized quite quickly that the light that shone through the crack under the door, was the entirety of her light source. When she moved away far enough, the area was left shrouded in darkness. As she walked further, the only illumination that existed came from several lamps hung far above her head, close to a ceiling that stretched up probably a good twenty meters. Kilowatt didn't seem to mind the darkness all that much. Perhaps it was because she was carrying him. For now, he snuggled contently in her arms. His personality was a lot more docile than was typical for a Wiurn.
He seemed to enjoy the quiet. Though, he did make a few curious noises every so often. The area around them was monotonous. A long hallway with not much substance to be found at all. It took them a good ten minutes before they found another door.

It was similar to the one they had come through earlier, but this one was much smaller. She would need to crouch to fit through it. For a moment, Leafy was glad she wasn't as tall as she wanted to be. She shifted Kilowatt so that he was carried under one armpit and used the opposite hand to open the door. She shuffled both of them through, unable to check for danger and simply having to enter first.
When she stepped through, she found herself in a proper room this time. She found herself relaxing, not feeling the need to constantly check behind her as the shadows swarmed. It appeared as though they had found themselves in a bedroom. But a quick glance at the pristine bedspread had her thinking that nobody had ever actually slept in here before. There were a number of small trinkets scattered around the room.

Some of them looked like they were worth a fortune, but a closer glance revealed them to be fake and made of cheaper material than the originals would have been. Simple replications of famous artifacts. She scoffed in distaste. Fake treasure was utterly useless. Kilowatt squirmed in her arms, finally wanting down to explore. She hummed and placed him by the base of the bed. If he wanted up, she was certain he'd be able to claw his way up the mattress and duvet. She got to work looking through the rest of the room. She decided to start with the wardrobe. A quick peek told her that its items were as shallow and fake as the rest of the room. Nothing here was interesting. Or valuable. She was beginning to wonder if the idea of exploring the area was just a waste of time. Kilowatt decided to claw his way up the bed.
