The evening sun was low in the sky. Leafy basked in its glow, saddened by the thought that it would soon disappear into the gloomy, late winter weather. She liked the snow, but she also liked the warmth of the sun. Spring could be fun as well, so maybe she should just focus on the weather she had now. She brightened as she lay eyes on Honeydew. The Faeron had immediately taken to her garden. Even if her garden wasn’t the most well-kept, it was still quite impressive! Leafy followed her as she flitted around, exploring the area. She fluttered close to a cluster of daffodils that had overtaken a patch of her garden. Leafy inhaled the sweet scent as she approached them as well. Their bright yellow colouring was eye-catching and it made sense why her Faeron was drawn towards them. Honeydew flew up to greet the girl as she joined her in the exploration.

“The daffodils are out! That means spring is here,” Leafy exclaimed.
Honeydew tilted her head as she listened to the words that she couldn’t understand. She fluttered around Leafy’s head. She playfully batted at the girl’s hair with her claws. Leafy smiled and lightly touched the Faeron with her pointer finger. She found it a bit strange that the Faeron had already grown attached to her. Often pets were unfriendly when one first obtained them. Of course, the feeling was mutual. Leafy found herself relying on Honeydew to keep her grounded. After she had calmed down again, she turned back to tend to her garden. She didn’t quite know where to start, so she decided to start with something simple. With spring just around the corner, Leafy wanted to get started on pruning her existing plants and planting new seeds. She had some that she could start with, but it would take some preparation first.

There were plenty of tools for her to choose from. Instead of picking up the correct one right away, Leafy found herself lost in thought. What was the purpose to tending to her garden? It seemed to do just fine without her influence. If she meddled with it too much, what would she kill? She didn’t want to kill things, but that might happen even if she didn’t want to. Honeydew landed on her head. She patted the girl’s hair, continuing to play with the blonde strands. Was the Faeron making a nest? Either way it felt nice. Leafy picked up a rake. She could start by clearing the area of dead leaves.
“The dead leaves make good fertilizer, so we won’t get rid of them completely, but I do need to clear the soil,” she mused aloud.
Raking was simplistic. Even someone like her could do it without too much trouble.

The rake felt almost as tall as she was. It was a bit difficult to maneuver, but Leafy managed to work herself into a steady rhythm. She tried to keep focused on the task. Her mind had other ideas. She found herself pausing every few moments. When she had completely stopped, Honeydew tugged on her hair. The action snapped Leafy back to attention and she continued tending to the garden. When she had cleared a patch a few feet in diameter, she stopped to admire her work.
“It might not be much, but I managed to do it!” she exclaimed.
If Honeydew could understand her, she might have been proud. Instead, the Faeron fluttered down to the ground for a closer inspection. She picked up one leaf that Leafy had missed and moved it out of the way. The action might have been small, but it helped Leafy feel much better.

As you work in the garden, you notice a small creature wriggling in a beautiful fruit hanging off a nearby plant. Upon closer inspection, you see that it is a disgusting slimy worm-like creature. Fearing for your plants, you take an even closer look to discover that all of the fruit in your garden is riddled with holes - there is indeed a worm infestation here. Not only will you have to remove all the current harvest from your garden, but your pets seem dissapointed...

If she wanted to plant some bulbs, she needed to grab a spade to help her dig holes. She wandered over to her supplies, but soon something strange caught her eye. Honeydew was fretting over a small fruit tree and Leafy moved closer to find out why. The fruit had appeared early on this tree. There was certainly something off about that all on its own, but on closer inspection, the fruit also had an infestation. A small worm wriggled in the fruit that she could see. It had ruined the fruit with little holes that were covered in slime and already browning with rot. Honeydew appeared quite frightened of the worm. Leafy couldn’t tell if it was a sign that the infestation was something to be concerned with or if the Faeron was simply threatened by the worm. Either way, this infestation was something that needed to be dealt with promptly.

Leafy might have known that the problem needed to be dealt with, but she didn’t have an immediate solution in mind. She just knew that she needed to start by isolating the infected fruit. Honeydew fluttered around, pestering the girl to act quicker. Leafy rolled her eyes, but did her best to solve the problem. She gathered up a bunch of the wormy fruit and took them to an area where there weren’t any other fruit trees to infect. Honeydew hovered close by, keeping a close eye on the girl to ensure that she did a good job. Leafy took a while, but she soon managed to pick all of the fruit off of the heavily infected fruit tree and had moved it into a pile. Now she needed a way to get rid of the infected fruit for good.
“Maybe we can bury it? Or dig a hole and then flood the worms!”

Drowning the worms might have been morbid, but it would be effective. First, she needed a proper hole to throw the fruit into. In order to get there, she needed a shovel. She headed back over to where she had retrieved the rake and quickly exchanged it for a shovel. She grabbed one that looked easy to maneuver and stepped back over to the pile of fruit she had made. She decided to start digging to the right of the fruit which would make it easy to transfer the fruit down into the hole. Honeydew watched with a careful eye as the girl started to dig a hole. It took Leafy quite a while. Even with all her mining experience, physical exertion still took a lot of effort from her. When she figured the hole was deep enough, she began to shovel the fruit into it. When that was finished, she went to get a bucket.

There were hoses around her garden that were connected to the water system. Leafy didn’t know how this worked exactly, but she knew they provided water for her plants. She grabbed a bucket from the place all her other tools were kept and carried it over to nearest hose. She turned the tap on and waited for the bucket to fill. Honeydew flew down and landed on the edge of the bucket. She peered over the edge, watching the water as the bucket filled up. When the bucket was almost full, Leafy turned off the water. She shooed Honeydew off of the bucket and then picked it up. She walked it over to the fruit with difficulty. Being so full, the bucket was certainly much heavier than Leafy could normally handle. The girl was determined and managed to carry it over with aching arms. She then dumped the water on top of the fruit.

Leafy felt fairly confident that she had successfully dealt with the infestation. Now she wanted to take a break from gardening and the best way to do that would be to do some training. She was a bit out of practice, but she felt she could teach Honeydew her name without difficulty. But first, she needed an incentive for the Faeron. She had some gem treats that she had picked up before for a training quest. She didn’t quite know what her Faeron ate, but she knew that Honeydew liked shiny objects. Gems were quite shiny. “Honeydew!” she called out. She jingled the bag of gems to capture the Faeron’s attention. Immediately, Honeydew was attracted to the strange, tinkling sound. She fluttered over her eyes wide as she caught sight of the gems within the bag that Leafy was holding. When she reached the girl, she was given one to take for herself. She immediately gobbled up the gem with an eagerness that felt out of character. Leafy looked at the gems, feeling an overwhelming sense of curiosity overtake her. Did gems taste good? She shook her head. She was meant to be training Honeydew! She couldn’t get distracted now! She waited for the Faeron to look away from her before she called her name again.
“Honeydew,” she called in a high-pitched tone.
She plucked out another gem and showed it to Honeydew in order to make her pay close attention to Leafy. The Faeron immediately made a grab for the gem. Leafy allowed her to take it wanting her to associate the name with treats. Honeydew shoved the gem into her mouth greedily and ate it up. The sight was amusing from a creature so tiny. She certainly could eat a lot. When it became evident that Leafy wasn’t going to give her more, Honeydew lost interest.

Leafy waited for Honeydew to go back to doing her own thing. The Faeron flew over to a patch of daffodils and began to bury herself within them. Was it for protection, or was she playing? Leafy couldn’t quite tell the Faeron’s motives. When Leafy felt ready, she shook the bag of gems again while calling Honeydew’s name.
“Honeydew!” she made sure to enunciate in a clear tone.
Honeydew immediately poked her head out from behind the daffodils. She narrowed her eyes as she tracked down where Leafy’s voice and the sound of gems clacking together was coming from. She fluttered over to the girl, meeting her gaze once she had reached her. Leafy tipped out a gem and handed it to the Faeron.
“Good job!” she praised.
Honeydew grabbed the gem and examined it for a few moments before shoving it in her mouth. It was gone in two seconds.

Honeydew licked at her claws once the treat had been eaten. Again, Leafy was consumed with questions pertaining to the taste of the gems. Did they leave residue that had a taste? Or was the Faeron simply licking out of habit. Either way, the thoughts didn’t help much with her training. With Honeydew intent on cleaning herself, Leafy decided to test out her name again.
“Honeydew!” she called out.
The Faeron stopped cleaning and raised her head to look at Leafy. The girl held her gaze for a few moments before handing her another gem to snack on. It was difficult to know if this was the food that Faerons actually ate, but Honeydew didn’t seem to have any complaints. The treat was devoured just as the others had been and the Faeron fluttered around with a sudden burst of energy. Leafy wondered if she would respond to the wrong name.

“Kuras!” she called out the name of a different pet.
Honeydew raised her head briefly at the sudden noise, but soon dismissed it when she realized that Leafy hadn’t been calling her name. In order to make sure that Honeydew had indeed been responding to her name, she quickly switched to calling out her proper name.
“Honeydew!” she said in a loud voice.
Honeydew raised her head. This time she met Leafy’s gaze and held it until the girl looked away from her. The action had been done properly, so the girl handed her another tiny gem. Did they have nutritional value? Sometimes Leafy ate things that didn’t properly count as food. Was this a similar case or could the Faeron sustain herself on gems? This time she put the gems away so they wouldn’t provide incentive for Honeydew to listen to her name.
“Honeydew!” she cried out a final time.
Honeydew met her gaze eagerly and Leafy felt confident that she indeed knew her name.
