Hey! Just wondering if there was any more clarification on limits to training or what sort of purview we can have in expanding outside of listed moves for pets, as we have the "Creatures By Elements" list. The closest answer I could find was something on the old forum from Silver:
While this explains situations for physical attacks, I'm wondering about elemental moves. For example, if I have a Wiurn or Vespa (both listed under "Acid"-aligned creatures) what can I teach them from the Acid moves list? Anything?
Also, any more clarity on elemental injections would be great too! I suspect that's more limited, to just the moves you've outlined in your purchase, but I might be wrong.
Sorry for the spam, just curious!
Abilities that are listed as 'passive' are things that the creatures naturally do, without being taught. Such as 'Fire resistance'. A creature with fire resistance will always be resistant to fire, no matter what.
Abilities that are listed as 'active' are things that happen when the creature chooses for them to happen. These need to be taught by the owner if the owner wants them to happen on command.
For example - 'fly'. An Izer can fly, yes. But it must be taught by you how to do it when you tell it to.
As for moves that are already in a creature's stats, all of those must be taught on command, but a creature knows how to do them. A Vulticus, for example, will 'Bite' when threatened, but will not know how to bite when you tell it, unless taught.
Now, there are moves that aren't in the Vulticus stats, that it can still possibly learn. For example, 'crunch', which is a stronger version of bite. Your Vulticus does not know how to 'crunch', but if you take some effort, it can be taught how to.
Pets can generally learn moves that are similar to their 'element'. A fire-based pet, for example, can probably learn 'fire-bite'. A purely physical pet, such as a Vulticus, can learn physical moves, most likely.
Remember - the moves have to make 'sense', though! Like... a Vulticus can't 'punch', but it can surely 'bite', and probably 'claw'.
Ask your species specialist if you have a question on a specific pet and a specific move.
Anything else you want to know?
