It had been a while since Renathan had been out of the house; let alone down in the mines. He really didn't feel like even going down to the mines; since the Workshop was mostly empty nowadays, but he did rather enjoy bonding with young creatures down here in the mines. Especially in the more 'safe' cavern up here close to the surface. Despite the nearing spring it was still bitter-cold outside. Normally this would be an issue to Renathan, but not long ago the man had become an elemental a little less than accidentally... He felt much warmer nowadays. Even moreso right now. Renathan could feel the anger well up inside him; and it showed in his antlers. They cast light from them as if crackling from flame within; like cinders and coals; lighting his way around him despite his slightly glowing eyes not quite needing the glare. From behind his mask; he was scowling, nearly growling. Each one of his sharp teeth bared. Truth be told; he had been trying to find answers as to why some of his pregnant orbaru had not yet been able to pass their kits; he was worried about their safety. However, beyond this; none of the creature physicians he'd been to had been able to provide him answers. This latest disappointment had left a bit upset; he couldn't fall asleep. Today the Renard had his favorite crimson waist sash tied about his waist; and a small pouch beneath that. A little head peaked out from the pouch just as Renathan gets to the mouth of his favorite cave; the tiny feathered friend lets both of his bright blue eyes open before he lets out the softtest 'PEEP' Renathan could even image. The Renard glances down, his antlers a little less bright now, softening to a few low embers. He gently pets the tiny creature's head with a single clawed finger, making sure to be ever so gentle with the fragile head. It was good he had brought Lisle today; tiny creatures made him feel calmer, somehow. Perhaps some kind of parental instinct within him rearing it's head. Thankfully, the little creatures were usually easy to get along with.

Renathan looks down into the opening of the mineshaft; which as always steps down into a round donut-shaped room. He'd had immense luck in this shaft before with his other creatures, if one could even call it a shaft, though he'd never really adventured beyond it. He wasn't sure if he even should adventure beyond it with such a young creature in tow; he'd really just wanted the area since it was round and would be difficult due to the lip at the opening for the little creature to get out. He wasn't especially looking for gems today, but he sure hoped that he wouldn't find any familiars. He didn't really need any more familiars, in all honesty. Renathan sits down at the edge of the ledge and then looks up into the moonlight, his pink eyes close for a moment. The full moon was bright and big; much larger than he was used to. He wanted to calm down; but he was starting to get a bit angrier every time his search wound up empty handed. He reaches down into his pouch and gently retrieved the tiny chiryma chick; it was a strange one to be sure. The tiny creature was dark like chocolate, and spotted, unlike others of it's species. The only other ones he'd seen were yellowish-white, or creamy, with bluish tails. He hadn't owned one of these himself, but then again, most other chiryma did not even seem to have fur. It was quite strange indeed. This one did, in fact, have feathery fur; like down.

Renathan dangles his feet down into the room; even though they can touch the ground, he keeps his toes lifted off of the ground as he sits. He's simply enjoying his early morning. He's not afraid to go down into the mineshaft during the night as he has plenty of equipment, but he really was just enjoying his time. He wanted to get the little creature used to him nice and slow. Auburn had never been this age; but the Renard faintly wonders what she would have been like if she had indeed been at this age. He holds the tiny chicklet in the palm of both hands held together, cupping it gently with no strength added. The creature was small, and a bit sleepy it seemed. He was not at all afraid of it running away. He had read about this species; a long time ago it seems. These creatures were rumored to have great empathetic abilities with their owners, though the supposedly improved 'V2' needed more time to become sensitive to an owner's emotions. Renathan figured, perhaps correctly, that it was a hunting trait, and no more. He dangles his legs down, and kicks a little, before opening his eyes and focusing them on the tiny creature in his palms. It's bright blue eyes blink rapidly; taking in his own bright pink ones.

The embers go down to a smolder; no more light droops from Renathan's sharp-tined antlers. He calms his breathing down to a crawl; looking at the tiny sweet creature in his palms. Yes, this is why he became a beastmaster in the first place; the creatures were highly therapeutic. He clears his throat gently, it was suddenly quite dry; perhaps due to the heat parching him. He speaks, creakily, after a moment. "Hello little fellow... Lisle." He has no intention on teaching the creature it's name, not here, but one had to start calling something by it's name a some point, he figured. The little creature doesn't seem too interested in his voice, but they never really are at first. The creature is instead simply intrigued by his mask it seems; Lisle pops his little head forward and taps his beak against the Renard's mask gently, before rubbing against it. Sabbath is suddenly struck by how brave the little beast was; most creatures and people found his mask intimidating at first, and with good reason. It was made to look like a skull, in fact. Renathan rubs his mask against the chiryma gently in return, to reinforce that it was not a danger.

The renard counted his lucky stars every day knowing that he was profoundly fortunate for never having been injured by his creatures before. Sure, he'd been scratched and nipped at, but never really truly hurt. Some beastmasters were not even remotely as lucky. What was even more was that Renathan owned lots of Sarane; and he'd still never really gotten truly hurt by them; every time he dealt with them he made sure to be extra careful. He knew most of his creatures were dangerous in some capacity or another, and he even knew that Chiryma, well, at least the v2, were created to be profound predators. Looking into the tiny creature's blue eyes right now, however, he wasn't sure if he could believe that one day, this creature would probably hunt for it's own self. Perhaps even within a pack? Renathan pulls his head back from the fragile creature's curious movements and then shuffles it over into one palm instead of the other so that he could pet it with the now freed hand. Ever so gently, perhaps too gently. It was so small he was almost afraid that he may crush it. Then, he gently steps down into the actual room itself, and scans the room while holding Lisle gently in his palm.

As usual, the room was quiet and appeared quiet bare; it was a round room like a wheel, with a singular pillar in the center. He knew from previous experience that when it rained; the room was washed out in a near perfect circle by a small streamlet of water that filtered down into the caves beyond. Luckily, it had been cold and dry recently; well, he'd prefer it not to be cold. Thankfully, between himself and the creature, the tiny beast was staying quite warm near his person and in his palm. He gently pets the creature with a single finger, and then glances the rest of the way around the room with softened eyes, trying to forget about his recent misfortune. The creature in his palm seems to almost yawn, opening it's mouth and then clacking it shut. Then it sprawls out, almost catlike, in his palm. Sabbath squints down at it, a bit surprised. Leave it to a bird-like creature not to act like a bird, huh. Good thing the little bugger was cute though!

Renathan really did enjoy all of his creatures, but sometimes he felt a little more connected to one or the other, and he wasn't exactly sure why. Some of his absolute most beautiful creatures seemed to want little to do with him, while others took to him much better than he would have thought. A cold breeze finds it's way rushing past him, nipping a little at his toes. Perhaps he would not be down here too long today; he wasn't sure what had made him want to come down here so badly; he'd just wanted to get away from it all for a moment, to clear his head and think. Now, he was a little more worried about the creature that he'd brought with him than he was of his own mental state; which was probably good for him in the long run anyway. He smiles and sits down in the middle of the room, watching the tiny creature get into a comfortable position on his palm and sleep. Aww, it was very cute!

The Renard was finding it quite difficult to stay comfortable down on the floor, but he at least wanted to wait until the creature was asleep again before placing it back in the pouch that he'd lined with fur himself, a little messily of course. He'd wanted to make sure the creature was both comfortable and warm as if it were in a nest. Instead, he was pretty sure he'd just accidentally gotten it used to his scent, not that it was a bad thing necessarily. He curls his fluffy tails against him carefully, and places the tiny creature into his lap, atop his crimson waist sash. The little creature puffs up for a moment, and lets out the tiniest little roar in a bit of an upset tone, before getting more used to the positioning and beginning to enjoy the warmth. Lisle makes a few circles and then curls up on his lap, resting it's tiny head up on his knee. Renathan could almost melt from the amount of cute that it was exhibiting! Once again, he scans the area around him, making sure that nothing was around that could disturb them.

Renathan certainly wanted to bond with the creature the best he could before it grew up; mostly because it was simply a good idea in any case. Allowing a creature to grow up without becoming well acquainted with it's master was dangerous, especially with a meat-eating creature in general. Sabbath reaches into his backpack without moving too much to disturb the little chiryma, and then pulls out a little strip of dried jerky towards it. "Here you go Lisle, have some of this to fill up your belly. It's keep you warm." The creature was certainly roused by the smell of the little meat strip; he snatches it without much waiting. The Renard was not surprised at the speed; he'd fed this creature several times before. It seemed to be growing rather slowly, compared to his other creatures. Then again Renathan was more used to training Sarane than anything else nowadays, perhaps rather than Auburn of course. He hoped to be able to train this little guy to be a mount at some point, but he wasn't sure if it would take well to that, not really. One never really knew a creature until it grew up.

After Lisle takes the initial bite of the jerky, and by bite it was much more like a snap of his beak; he shakes his head to dislodge the piece and then downs the meat with a few shakes of his head. Then he quickly grabs another piece, and gobbles it down. Renathan was always shocked at the sheer hunger of this tiny predator at this age, but then again, a growing creature undoubtedly needed nourishment to survive and thrive. He vaguely wondered how large this tiny creature would be, whenever it grew. Certainly not as large as Sarane were, at least the Renard hoped. After a few more gobbled down scraps, the tiny creature laid back down in his lap again after turning a few more circles. Like a cat. Renathan kept thinking that; the creature was so much like a cat even if he didn't look it. He reaches down and pets Lisle until the creature seems to be nearly about to go to sleep; at least, until the noise happens. Renathan's ears perked forward towards the end of the room, where the tunnel was. He hoped nothing was coming this way; but it did sound super far away! Maybe whatever it was, it would stay away from him.

Renathan stares in the vague direction of the echoing noise until it completely fades away; and then for a little longer as he tries to figure out just what the origin to the strange noise indeed was. After a goodly amount of time the renard looks down to realize that his tiny chiryma has settled down to rest and began making the cutest tiny chirping noises! He fights the urge to pet the tiny pufflet, knowing that he might wake up and that a cranky bird of any type was certainly not a good idea. He knew very little offhand about chiryma, but he had a little pamphlet that had been put together on the creatures, thankfully. He was glad that the City general kept information on the care of these subjects quite public, so that it was easier to source food and such for creatures that may otherwise have a mysterious diet. Thankfully, these tiny creatures were carnivores, and surprisingly not picky. They were pack animals, however, it seems! He resists the urge to pet the creature, but only just so.

Renathan was still somewhat anxious about the noise from earlier, but he wasn't sure if it was coming closer or going further away. It did, however, sound like it was quite far away. He decides not to deal with this right now, and instead takes a moment to pick up a bare rock in his empty hand, rolling it across his knuckles and dropping it. The stone made a hollow noise as it hit the dry and dusty cave floor. He frowns, and picks it up again absentmindedly. He was already thinking about something else entirely. For some reason, he was feeling a little on the edge about something or the other, though he was also not quite able to pin down what the deal was. He finally accidentally pets the creature quite by accident, a little without thinking of course. This was enough to awaken the tiny sleeping creature, which startles and makes an unpleasant noise as it wakes up from this jarring touch.

Renathan had never really sat down and actually looked at the tiny creature for a long period of time; really looked at it, to see the tiny rosettes and dots all in it's chocolate down. The chiryma was a handsome creature, and quite small; he wasn't sure always what to think of the creatures the Labs produced. They all seemed too pretty, too perfect. He wasn't sure what to make of this one either, along the same vein. The creature appears disgruntled in his hand, and lets out a sharp screeling creak; before nipping at his finger but not quite getting it between his beak. Then, the creature turns a circle almost like that a cat would take before once again appearing to get comfortable enough to sleep. Renathan looks down at his nipped-at finger and makes a scowl beneath the mask. He sure was getting sleepy himself, and watching the tiny creature was almost maddening. Renathan could nearly fall asleep even out here!

Renathan fights off his sleepy spell with just a sip of his water bottle; and he peers down curiously at the spotted bird on top of his lap, perched like a little sunbathing cat, as pleased as pie and making a nearly purring chuff. The renard wraps his furry tails around himself and breathes out; his breath coming out as a tiny puff of vapor. It really was cold here; but not super cold. It was more cold by relation to how this climate usually was during the fall and spring, but it was just barely on the heels of spring. Perhaps it was normal for this time of year? The mammalian renard once again feels as if he hears a noise somewhat across the room, emanating from that hole in the wall that seemed to plague him with curiosity and anxiety since he had discovered it in this cavern. He was never quite sure what to make of it, that was for certain; and the noises it allowed to funnel through were always mysterious. He shifts the little creature in his lap slightly, nearly rousing the little beast yet again, as he tries to strain harder.
