Renathan wasn't sure what had prompted him to work in the mines today. Perhaps it was just wanting to have a calm day, or perhaps he was feeling a bit bad that he had misinterpreted what Sarabi would like to do today. He'd hoped that she would have wanted to learn how to work with the sorts of things that she enjoyed finding for him. Ah well, no two people were the same, right? Renathan was quiet for a moment and then began working on the wall again. Sometime, he'd make this up to her, he kinda felt bad that he couldn't communicate with her properly, but he doubted that she would appreciate an RoT being put on her without her express permission first. Renathan continued to work on the wall until finally; he was able to find something there; some kind of geode? He had found a ton of geodes relatively recently, honestly.

Renathan had noticed that the Heavy Hammer didn't take geodes, and neither did the Underground. It was really a mess, but maybe the Trader would take them? Still, Renathan wasn't sure if there was anything he would have within the next few months that he really wanted. Renathan sighed as he thought of it, and continued hacking at the wall, this time changing his angle to begin getting the geode out of the wall. He had to be careful; geodes were pretty awful on a pickaxe if not carefully excised, which made him have to work a little differently. His muscles would complain later, he was sure. Sarabi was still digging in the wall at her new spot that she had chosen, but he was not sure if she was going to find anything today. They didn't have much longer to be here, after all, and he knew that she'd be upset.

Renathan continued to work on the geode to remove it from the wall. He'd of course have to find a way to crack it open in order to see what was in it. Different geodes were probably worth different amounts to... Well, someone out there, right? Renathan was sure that the geodes were worth something to somebody, but he was going to have to do some research to see what to do about it and where to take them. Eventually, Renathan was able to get the geode out of the wall. Now, he wasn't going to be able to open it with a pickaxe, so he picked up a different tool to open it up; ah, neat. This one had a neat material in it; it had to be worth something to someone. Renathan finally picked it up and put it into the mining cart. Well, he better look to see if there was anything else around here...

Renathan continued to work at the wall alongside Sarabi to try to find anything else. Sarabi had no idea, but they only had a few minutes left to stay today before they had to begin getting ready to go back to Renathan's job... Maybe he would drop Sarabi off at the house first, since she didn't seem to enjoy it at all. Yeah, that was what he was going to do after they looked for anything else. The haul today had been a bit narrow, but hey, when you're only going to be here for a little bit, what was anyone expecting? Renathan doubled his pace on the wall, and Sarabi seemed to notice his urgency, and began digging in earnest as well. After a while, Renathan collected anything that he thought might be a stone from both his and Sarabi's piles, he'd crack them open and check them later. To Sarabi's dismay, the two left afterwards.

After the last 'bust' of a trip, Renathan tried to plan for a day where he and Sarabi could come out to the mines for a bit lengthier trip; perhaps a good couple of hours at least. The last trip had managed to provide them with a few found minerals, including some particularly disappointing Geodes, though interestingly enough, it would seem that the trader would take them at least. Renathan was planning for a big mineral-selloff at some point, especially since he didn't have a lot of use for them anymore. Or maybe he would eventually check out the weapons shop? He needed to learn how to defend himself even better than he already did, if he ever wanted to do anything like that. He wasn't sure entirely, he could protect himself with magic already... But mining was still the best way of getting minerals. He knew this, peering down a mining shaft he'd never been in before with Sarabi behind him.

While Renathan generally had a ton of things to do, he wanted to begin doing more mining again. He was just starting to feel more confident in the area down in the caves here again. He used to do a whole ton of mining it would seem, but he didn't really as much anymore. Poor Sarabi was a bit miffed about this, but she had gotten used to the easier life that she lead now, instead of actually living in the mines. She may not be able to find her own minerals as much nowadays, but she did get minerals all the time without having to do too much work, and then they still went on lots of these little excursions to the mines themselves as well. Overall, Sarabi was about has happy as a clam, though she didn't really want Renathan to know that of course. She liked to be seen as a bit of a grump.

Sarabi had managed to somehow become the grandmother of the kennels, over her time there, and though a lot of the creatures had been moved out to the farm already (she had been told that she was going to be one of the last to move, since her nest required a bigger area to be added on to the farm) she still was a bit of a leader to the ones left in the kennel so far. Renathan was trying to get all of his creatures in one area again, since he was trying to open up more time to do other things. Sarabi was slowly picking these ideas up, little by little from him. Renathan sure did like to babble a lot, and she was pretty dang smart, she could tell now. Most of the mammalian's creatures didn't have the sort of sense she did. She brushes past Renathan to step down into the mine shaft a bit further.

Sarabi liked to take the lead, in all honesty. She seemed to have a much better understanding of the mines than did Renathan; though he seemed to be really lucky. Thanks to him, they had run up on all kinds of really special minerals as of late, and she was excited to be able to see what they would find today. Sure, she was usually the one that figured out where minerals actually were in the walls, but she had seen him be very resourceful in the past. Renathan walks behind her amicably, though she wasn't sure why she could tell that he was in a better mood than usual today. Probably the way he was walking, or the slight whistling 'song' he was making. She was stretching, referring to it as a song, but it sure was echoing down the mineshaft in an annoying manner. She huffed, but was actually pretty glad for him.

Of course, Sarabi was mostly glad because a Renathan in a good mood generally meant that they could be down in the mines for longer. The last trip had upset her, being so short and all, but maybe today they would have a little bit of a longer one? She realized that today he hadn't left like he normally did, at the same time that he normally did or anything, so maybe he just didn't have anything else to do today? She had been shown this last time that he did some kind of... Well, it was almost like mining? But he was making stuff. She understood that much, so maybe it was just something that he liked to do? Maybe it was a way of getting gems that she didn't know about? He seemed to enjoy it, though it took up a lot of his time and had made her quite bored.

Renathan and Sarabi were often quite a bit like two ships passing in the night. Renathan already had a difficult time fitting his own childhood experiences from his homeland truly into Pethian understanding, and of course Sarabi had her own sort of culture, having lived in the mines for quite a long time before she had decided to create this sort of partnership in gem-finding that she had managed with Renathan. They didn't understand each other well, but they did have a rudimentary sort of guessing with one another, and of course just about anyone could understand things such as sadness. The mammalian tried to be the best owner he could with his creatures, but he had no idea really how to work with truly sentient creatures. He knew that there were huge differences, but there had to be some sort of keystone, something that happened on both sides of them, right?

Renathan tried not to do a lot of thinking as he dragged the mining cart down, with the light leaned in it so that he could see. He planned to read through this really neat book he'd won in a challenge recently; it had some really neat looking information about the stones that he dug up, and though he had general knowledge about gemstones and metals, he really wanted to know as much information as he could. The book was super useful! He planned to wait until they stopped to look at it a bit, since he really thought that it would be dangerous to try to read a book while dragging the mining cart down into a mining shaft he hadn't been in before, even following after Sarabi. However, he did trust Sarabi well enough to lead him to a good place to find minerals, at the very least. He trusted her a lot, in fact.

The pair had went mining quite a bit, of course, not as much as some other folks probably did. Renathan had started a lot later than many others, and usually didn't bring mining familiars until recently, but now he didn't really understand why he never did now. He found so much more now that he was following Sarabi around instead of going with a baby pet, and of course, Sarabi could probably take care of herself down here a lot better than a baby creature could. Of course, it was still one of the better ways to actually work with a pet, but it was dangerous. He didn't like to accidentally get his creatures into any kind of trouble, so he had refused to bring another baby pet down here again. He thought about it quite a bit now, how dumb he had been to get Lisle hurt. At least he was quite fine now, though!

Renathan was very proud with how well he had helped Lisle. He'd made sure that Lisle went through a lot of physical therapy after his leg was harmed, and when he found out that he would still probably never be able to run, he had worked tirelessly to get the funds to make sure that he could be turned into an animal that had four limbs; that way he could walk. Renathan was very pleased with him, especially now that he was sentient and could speak. They had conversations, sometimes, where Lisle was learning how to understand communication better and better all the time. Renathan was proud of that. Someday, perhaps he'd take him mining again? He'd been holding off for it, for his training, but he was nearly finished with the first round. Perhaps it would be fun, someday. Renathan continued to follow Sarabi down the mining shaft. Nothing of note interested him yet.

The walls were fairly nondescript in this area, but Sarabi was already beginning to slow down and sniff around, looking for something that must be nearby. But what could it be? Generally, Renathan stopped by areas that he could see had an erratic or different situation going on about them; some change in color or texture in the walls or something of that nature. However, with Sarabi around, she could tell things about the surroundings that he couldn't surmise, or perhaps she was sensing it in some way that was unknown to himself. Sarabi was quite sure of herself though, and Renathan had indeed managed to trust her up to this point and find lots of good stuff previously. He was at the very least glad about that, anyway. Renathan wondered sometimes about how she found all this stuff though. It was so different from his own methodology that he was sure he'd never be able to figure it out.
