Renathan was pleased as punch to see Sarabi flapping her wings. After watching for a moment or two, he was sure that she could be taught to catch the wind with them, even though they didn't look like any wings that he had seen and thought about before really. "Well, I think you can fly, Sarabi! We just need to figure out how to get you there." He said, letting a long breath out of his mouth afterwards while looking the wings over. Sarabi looks at him, as if trying to ascertain exactly what was meant by that. "Sarabi. Fly? Good." He said, holding the wings in both hands and flapping at them gently. Sarabi takes them from him with a quick flick of the tips, flapping them herself. "See? Good." Renathan said, wrapping his tails around his ankles out of habit. "You can do it."

Sarabi was beginning to understand what Renathan wanted out of her, but she wasn't too sure how to do that. She'd seen 'fly' before, of course. They'd convinced creatures to go with them that could fly, before. She'd seen the karzik flitter around. So, Renathan thought that she could fly. That did give her a bit of a calm feeling, just the knowledge of it. She hoped to do excellent at it. Momentarily distracted from her job of finding gems, she backed up away from Renathan, and waited until the next time he said that word in his babbling- 'fly'. At this, she flapped her wings once or twice, experimentally, and then a few more times, harder. It would seem that flapping harder was not necessarily helping her fly. She looked cautiously at them, as Renathan praised her- presumably for trying whenever he said 'fly'.
She was a quick study.

If nothing else, Renathan thought, Sarabi's intelligence would help when it came to the command aspect of the training process. She learned those rather quick- but of course he was not privy to the knowledge that the Runic Gargoyle could apparently pick up language, though not speak it. "Good Sarabi, Good fly." He said, grinning beneath the mask at her. "Keep trying, okay?" He said to her, coaxing at her wings. "Fly!" He said. Sarabi flapped her wings a few times again, trying harder and then faster, and none of it really working. Was he sure that she could fly? She looks at his mask expectantly.
Renathan continued to coax her. "You've got it Sarabi, keep trying. Fly!" His voice was excited, and that alone made Sarabi feel like she needed to work harder. She continues to try different things, to various effects.

Renathan was watching and keeping meticulous mental track of what she was doing with her wings, and the kinds of movements that resulted from that. Most of it was hardly doing anything but quite obviously making what he assumed was her muscles tired. However, Renathan did notice that she managed to sort of cup her wings after a bit of work, and that seemed to lift a bit of her weight, though not enough to take her completely off of the ground. "Sarabi- you're doing it- keep doing that!" He said, excitedly. Sarabi wasn't entirely sure what was going on, but Renathan seemed to have figured something out. She slowly went through a few things, cautiously, but unsure as to what she needed to do.
Then, after a few different tries that left Renathan wondering if she was going to repeat the correct thing, Sarabi cups her wings, and Renathan goes- "That!"

Sarabi was excited that she was able to tell that Renathan thought she had just done something right. Sure, she didn't exactly want to please Renathan specifically, but it would be really interesting to be able to fly, and it seemed like he was going to help her with that. Hadn't he taught that little fluffy creature with the beak how to fly? She felt like she remembered him babbling about something like that. "Good Sarabi, great job. Fly!" He said again, this time cupping his hands a bit and flapping his arms a couple of times while affixing her with his bright pink gaze. Sarabi catches his eyes, and then flaps her own wings, cupping them like he was showing. It hurt. She wasn't used to it. However, she felt like it was... Right somehow. Like maybe she was meant to do that. Why hadn't she thought to try this before?

Renathan was sure that they could get it from here, though it was going to take a bit of work from both of them. "Rest, you need to rest." Renathan tells her, after they work for a solid fifteen additional minutes. "Your poor muscles are going to hurt. Lets take a break for now." Renathan normally wouldn't split up their training like this, but they wanted to find more gems, and also to give her chance to think about it. Sarabi looks upset that she has to stop, but she understands a bit of what Renathan wanted out of her. She reluctantly holds her wings in the usual position. They were quite sore, admittedly.
"We'll continue to work on your flying later, okay?" He said, smiling beneath the mask at her. Sarabi agrees quietly, Renathan can read that in the incline of her head.

Sarabi was reluctant to stop the flight training, but it was understandable to her- if she overdid her muscles, it probably would not be a good thing over all. She turns around, immediately redirecting her attention back to the wall. It was time to start looking for gems again. She'd already had a pretty good idea of where some were before she had been interrupted, so she was indeed ready to get back to that. Still, wouldn't it be really fun to fly? She'd never really gave it much thought before, but it did sound like a lot of fun. Renathan moves closer to the wall that she'd left behind, placing his hand on it. He did that, sometimes. She knew that he wasn't able to really ascertain anything about the wall (or what laid beneath) at all. He wasn't used to the place, like she was- and didn't have the senses she did.

Because she had realized that Renathan didn't have the senses she did, Sarabi couldn't help but wonder what made him do that. It was an odd thing, something that didn't add up. Though he didn't know it, she wondered about the things that others did that made no sense to her often. She had slowly began to puzzle through several of the other absolutely wild things that those that lived above the ground did, though it was a slow going process. She turns, huffs, and pays him no mind, instead going to inspect the area that smelled to her like it may have some good properties to it. Something about the stone there just felt like there would be minerals there. She wasn't sure exactly what would be there of course, she never really was, but she was certain that there was indeed some kind of something there. She was going to get it out.
Renathan had walked back to the mining cart.

Renathan opens up the mining cart and looks inside for some tools. Sarabi knew the place better than he did, but he was still a bit sure that there was something in that little lump in the wall that he had found earlier. It may not be anything at all. It was certainly not something that had alerted Sarabi, or at least not interested her enough to look at it. For all he knew, it could just be a funky lump of stone. However, he was going to check it out anyway, since there wasn't anything better to do while he let Sarabi rest. He was hoping to be able to work with her during this trip quite a bit. It would be useful if she knew some good tricks, in the future, to be even more useful down here in the mines.
The russet mammalian procures a pickaxe, and rests the wooden handle in the meat of his palm.

He held the pickaxe for a moment, testing the weight of it. He'd been lucky, very lucky, in all of his trips so far. Of course, he had not been lucky when the young (at the time) chick Lisle had been hurt by the large creature they had found down here, but he had been lucky that it was just hurt, and not killed... Though he felt bad for what Lisle had been through nearly ever day since. No, he hadn't really hurt any of his tools, though he suspected at some point in the future he would. The pickaxe seemed sound now (he did always make sure to keep up with his tools and keep them in good working condition) so he took it over to the lump in the wall and then readied it over his shoulder. Somewhere over to his right, Sarabi was digging at the rock wall.

How are you supposed to mine with all of these rocks in the way?

It was always a small wonder (an annoying small wonder, that is) whenever Renathan's luckiness ran out. Especially when it felt like it happened in tandem with other bad and annoying things. However, he was usually one of the more peppy individuals in the city, especially when it came to his hobby. Sarabi is busy, across the room from him, so he isn't entirely sure if she had found something or not. However, Renathan certainly Did. Not. No, the lump on the wall that he had decided to take a chance on was hilariously just a rock, and he couldn't help but laugh until he cried over it. It was so dumb. Of course he should have just left all of the hard work to Sarabi, instead of trying to do it himself. He's such a dummy, he thinks! He SAW that she passed this over, and he STILL tried to see what it was!

Renathan is saltier than usual today, it would seem. He crosses his arms, but gently puts the pickaxe down as he does. He stares at the rock that is his failure with indignation. He hardly wants to continue mining now, but he didn't really have another option. He had to mine, in order to find the things he needed. It was sad. However, he rolled his eyes, kicked the rock to get out all of the rest of the salt that he felt (perhaps this is why it is not good for people to be lucky- because the second they are not lucky they get absolutely stupid over it, such as Renathan in this instance) and then picks his pickaxe up again. Sarabi had turned around from where she was digging in the wall, trying to figure out what Renathan was doing. He sure was making a lot of noise, after all.

Sarabi looked over at her russet mammalian and made a low noise in her throat. Why was he acting like an absolute child right now? She didn't have time to be dealing with him. She had no idea how long they would be here, and she really wanted to find more gems. This was pretty much her only hobby, and she would not have him ruining it for her. She went to turn back to the wall to begin working on it, but when she did, she heard Renathan kick something. Now that was odd, that was not a thing he normally done at all. Fearing that he may need her for something, she turned towards him again, rock wall momentarily forgotten, and then she looked at him. What did he want? She tried to convey this to him. It took him a moment to even notice her. How rude of him!
