While Renathan was off presumably searching the dark part of the room for the thrumming minerals that he seemed to prefer and get excited over like nothing else, Sarabi was busy digging away at another wall. She knew that there were some really special minerals in here, if only she could get to them easier. She of course was trying to lead Renathan to the minerals that she knew that he wanted (she wasn't super big on them, herself), but she was mostly trying to get to these minerals. She digs, and digs, and digs. There is a noise beyond the darkness that echoes, and she stills to strain to hear what it was. Whenever it didn't make the noise again, she continues on with the digging. Finally, she pulls one of the prizes from the wall- a piece of marble. It was a good piece of marble, and not something that she knew that Renathan liked.

If she ate, say... Half of this sheet of marble- Renathan would still have enough to do whatever the heck he wanted to do with it, and she would be able to enjoy something without having Renathan badger her. She looks left, and then right, and then right behind her. She could see Renathan's light across the room, way far out there. He probably wouldn't notice if she did it... She goes ahead and bends down, crunching some of the delicious mineral between her jaws. She gave up possible meals for Renathan down here in the mines all the time. Sure, he fed her minerals at home, but they were always blue... Bland, and tasteless after seasons and seasons of mostly eating those. She chowed down on the marble, enjoying the different texture. She didn't even feel bad.
Renathan's light flickered, and he sighed. Surely, hopefully, this thing would not go off while he was in the middle of the dark...

Renathan usually did check the batteries on this thing every once in a while, however, he had forgotten to do it this time. Of course the time that he had forgotten about this, it was going to act up. He turns the weight of the thing over in his hand and smacks the plastic up against one of his palms. It flickers, and then goes on steady again. That didn't necessarily mean that it wasn't going to act up, of course, in a few more moments, but for now he seemed pretty safe. The russet mammalian steps quickly up the last of the stairs, and looks around at the top of the flat landing. The ceiling was a little higher here- and in the darkness he had not even noticed it until now. He could hear Sarabi's scrabbling behind him at the rock still, so he continues on. There was some kind of ledge in front of him...

It was a little hard to see up here. He wasn't sure what it was at first- thinking perhaps that it was just thickly floating dust that he had perhaps kicked up in his ascent or perhaps even just with his breath since this area hadn't been touched in a long time... In fact, as he had thought about it more, he figured that it could have been done with the new air stream, since they had indeed opened up a hole into the area that was otherwise closely connected to a room that was near the hole in the earth where wind was coming through. Then, he realized with a start that it couldn't be dust, because dust didn't eat up the light like this did. No, it seemed like the light from his flashlight was reaching only half as far as it should have had. He shuddered upon the realization. It was downright creepy. He focuses on Sarabi's noises. She'd help him if he needed it.

Renathan continues forward. His light, even as he got closer, didn't quite reach the ledge. If not for the fact that he could feel the strong, heart-stopping THRUM from the ledge, he'd be completely unsure as to what was there. Apparently, this crystal was a powerful one. He'd never felt a thrum like that before. He reaches out towards the ledge... And grabs two crystals. Two of them? No wonder this place was really weird. He hadn't ever suspected that there may be two this close together. Had he personally found any of these two at a time before?
While Renathan was doing that, Sarabi had finished her snack, glanced back around to make sure that Renathan had not seen her eat half of the marble slab like that. It was still decent sized and all (actually, it was now normal sized) so she hoped he wouldn't notice at all whenever he came back.

Sarabi begins clawing at the wall again. It was a rubble-wall, one that was created when an earth shake broke the yoke of the ground and threw the stones down in a fall. She sniffs at it. There are certainly more minerals within- and easier to get to than those buried within solid wall. Rock fall walls were the best walls. She removes a few of the boulders with considerable difficulty in comparison to some of her other works, but she manages to get them fixed up all the same. She removes them, and the feeling she got about whether or not minerals were there grew stronger. She could sense that there was a good one here. She dug again, making sure to push the marble back with her back legs, so that the rock fall didn't fall on it and obscure it again as she disturbed the area.
Renathan turned around, crystals in hand, and his flashlight flickers again.

Renathan repeats the movement again, turning the flashlight over in his palm and then smacking the bottom of it against his other palm. It flickers again, and then goes steady. "Ugh, this is going to suck." Renathan murmurs. "This flashlight is going to need new batteries as soon as possible." He said to himself. He turns around, crystals in hand, and then reluctantly goes back down the steps. Nothing had happened to him, though it was quite spooky feeling over here. He'd get a good look at the crystals when he got towards the light at the other end of the room, where Sarabi was currently digging again. He had hardly noticed that she had stopped. He wondered why she had stopped earlier, but decided not to question it. She did a great job finding minerals all the time, and he wasn't going to bother her over it.

Renathan has a few more moments of difficulty where his light flickers a few times, but it holds out until he gets far past the cave paintings that had been left, towards the more natural cave where light filtered in through the ceiling (though only faintly). It looked like there was a rock slide down here at some point? He can see Sarabi digging carefully at the rock slide on the far side. It was hard to believe that he'd just walked away from a cave-painting laden quasi temple across the way (complete with near pitch black darkness, and a creep temple-type step thing) to a simple cave with a rock slide at the end. Perhaps this used to be something else? An opening to the above-ground? A port-way that was simply closed off? Whatever had happened, apparently it had closed this area off for a very, very long time.

"Well Sarabi." He starts. "Did you find anything?" He didn't know how long they had been underground (He had lost track of time, and that wasn't something he normally did), but it felt like it had been a while. Sarabi turns towards him and lugs up some kind of slab of rock. Renathan leans down slightly, still holding the crystals tightly in a palm, and leans on his knees to see. "Oh, I see, that is marble, isn't it? Looks like a good amount." He says. It was a good hunk of mineral. He reaches out for it, and steps through the hole that they entered in (which was not very far away from the rockslide) so that he could put the marble into the mining cart. He makes sure to stash the crystals there as well. Well, it wasn't a completely lost trip, it would seem.

Of course, they weren't planning on leaving right away. They'd spent a bit more time down here today before calling it temporarily quits and doing other things for a while. Renathan was trying quite hard to fulfill his obligations and find the things he had been sent for, but it was a slow thing. One didn't just find crystals in the mines every single time they went down. They were quite rare, even for those like him that were quite decent at working with them. Renathan closes and locks the mining cart, and then turns around to go back through the little hole in the wall towards Sarabi near the rock fall. "Hey Sarabi, Mind if I help out?" He asks, grabbing the pickaxe he had leaned up against the wall nearby. Sarabi huffs at him, obviously not entirely happy with it, but he goes to help her mine in the rock slide anyway.

They dig for a long while. Sarabi pulls out a few more minerals that she had found. Renathan doesn't make much headway at first, but eventually manages to split open a boulder that has a fossil in it. He looks over Sarabi's finds- one of them is a strange orange stone. It appears to be a citrine, but he'd have to check later on at home to make sure. Another one is what Renathan is sure is charolite. He moves both of these over to the Mining cart along with the fossil boulder, and is able to excise the fossil without damaging it, though not without some difficulty. When he returns, it seems that Sarabi has found something else- a deep blue stone. Nice.
They were making decent headway, but Renathan was sure that he wanted to start teaching her to fly again. They did make some amount of progress earlier.

The continued for a while, and didn't really find anything else. For a lucky person, Renathan sure did have bad luck sometimes. It almost didn't make any sense, but sometimes that was the way that it was. Renathan turns to Sarabi, and then speaks. "We need to finish teaching you how to fly." He says. "We aren't finding anything, anyway, so what is the point?" He smiled at her. "But don't feel bad, we have a small hoard here. Maybe next time we'll have enough to make a big deposit at the Underground, or maybe buy some shiny weapons." Not that he knew how to use any of them, right now, anyway. "Alright, c'mere."
The russet mammalian lead Sarabi out into the middle of the really high-cieling'd room, and then used the fly command for her. She knew what it meant, but wasn't sure how to do it yet.

Renathan always kind of felt like going mining was less profitable than going out to the mansion. If one knew enough about the mansion itself, they got a ton of stuff. Out here at the mines? Hours could be spent for naught. However, he had some crystals he needed to find, so mines it was, regardless of what he wanted to do personally. Sarabi did need some training, and it was easiest to train her where she would be useful, anyway. He doubted she'd want to go to the mansion.
"C'mon, Fly Sarabi." He murmured, touching her wings again. She flaps them, kind of hard, and snaps him on the finger a bit. It hurt, but didn't break anything. "Good girl, keep it up." Renathan said.
He would issue the command, and Sarabi would try to fly. They did this for quite a while, until finally, her wings cup the air again, as they had earlier.
