The Karzik chirped for a moment, a slight buzzing sound, and tilted it's head, wondering what the treat was. Now that there was food involved, it was much less wary. In fact, it inched forward bit by bit in order to snatch it from his hand with it's pincers.

Renathan was never sure exactly what mining familiars ate. Sarabi sometimes licked salt, and he did provide her with plenty of those little gem bags that were simple to get in the Labs City, which did seem to disappear one way or the other, but he wasn't entirely sure if she ate those. He also left her traditional pet foods, and those seemed to disappear too. Perhaps she ate everything? Maybe she gave the others to other critters? Who knew.
But he did know that mining familiars at least seemed to try treats. These were a small processed treat, something they found at the market. "Yup, I dunno what it is, but here you go little fella." Renathan says, holding the treat out on his palm. Sarabi stands behind him, looking directly at that gem, and not so much at the creature itself. Familiars could sometimes have a bit of a one track mind.

What all could it do right now aside from go for the treat? It inched forward again and napped at it, all caution to the wind. Sure it could be grabbed, but it didn't seem to understand what danger it was in.

Perhaps Luckily for the little creature, Renathan had long since stopped lunging at creatures that he found at the places that he explored. Part of the reason why was because he ran a creature off one time (one time out of relatively many, he had succeeded several times before as well) and also partially because it was because the critters generally did not react well to being fed by him afterwards for a long time. It seemed to scare them. So while Sarabi stands behind Renathan, waiting for him to get done with whatever he was doing, the russet mammalian simply allows the creature to have the treat, all while using his other hand to dig another treat from the pouch. He holds out his other palm, with the next treat now, and bides his time trying not to scare the critter.
"See beastie? That wasn't so bad, was it?"

The Karzik nibbled at the treat and then tilted it's head, wondering what the deal was. The man wasn't running away or trying to nab it, it was very confused, but hey, as long as it got treats out of this, maybe it wasn't so bad? Slightly wary, it inched a little closer to sniff at the pouch the man was digging in.

Renathan couldn't help but chuckle at the Karzik's antics. "Aren't you a mess? More?" Renathan digs another treat out of the pouch, and tries to decide what the best course of action was. Should he try to grab it, just this once? Should he let it snack and go? He wasn't sure if he would be able to find a good home for it, but he did know that he might as well try to catch it. He puts the treat in his hand again, holding it out, and then holds his fingers loose. He is planning on gently clasping a finger around the Karzik's leg, ever so carefully, but holding it firm, if he could get it that way. If he was able to without scaring it away, he was going to see if he couldn't tame it using more treats, to make it less afraid. Sarabi rolls her eyes, and goes to check the nearby wall. Renathan was a dolt sometimes, in her opinion.

The Karzik clacked as it nibbled on the new treat, not even noticing the hand around it's leg. This... wasn't a smart creature, it would seem, or it just had really taken a shine to the man. Either way, it was happy, and it would follow the treats for awhile, see what might happen.
[Congratulations, you've tamed the Karzik!]

Renathan was pretty glad to have caught the Karzik- it had been so long since he had seen one! He wasn't sure if they were rare, or simply if he was too lucky to find one (it really could be either way) but he hadn't seen one since... Well, he didn't know if he was around Sarabi at the time or not. He quickly finds a string to tie around the bottom of the creature's leg, and then ties it to his arm. This was a temporary measure, because they would go home relatively soon to bring it home. For now, though, he wanted to check around for anything of interest, and then momentarily go home. Sarabi knew exactly what Renathan was going to do (they'd done this so many times by now!) and it was obviously annoying to her.
The pair checks for anything of interest, and then momentarily go home before returning soon after.

It had been quite a long time since Renathan had found himself down in the mines. He'd been so busy over the last year that he had fallen into a bit of a rut; doing the same thing each and every day and keeping his head down so to speak. However, he found himself with one very despondent gargoyle- and that was no good! He had made sure to buy her plenty of gems for her diet, but they apparently weren't the same as the things that came straight from the mines according to her. It was quite cold out whenever he finally had a day off and time to take her down into the mines. After having spent some time performing the ritual that would allow him to part from Auburn for the day, Renathan caught Sarabi's attention and soon enough they were entering the closest dark cavern in the earth that Renathan knew of. The russet mammalian was never quite happy whenever the cold part of the year turned around to the City. His own homeland never really had such weather save for in the highest of peaks, and he had never gotten used to it. Even worse, his own fur seemed to do much better in muggy heat than it did in arid cold. He made sure to prepare for this day by bundling up a tad more warmly than he normally otherwise would (though perhaps even still a little less than most City-born Humans that he'd seen since moving to Pethia). Sarabi did not at all seem daunted by the cold, even in the cavernous pit in the earth. Perhaps it was because she was home? Sometimes Renathan found himself thinking of home, despite all of the happiness he had found in Pethia. He couldn't imagine carting all of his animals back home, however.

As soon as they were more than a few steps into the cave, Sarabi pulled ahead of Renathan before turning around and looking at him cautiously. Renathan pulled his cart behind him, and reached down for a moment to grab a flashlight from his waist pouch. He had nearly forgotten how dark it was underground! The light from outside was still filtering in at the place where he stood, but everything ahead of him was so dark that he couldn't even see Sarabi's tail tip beyond her form. After he flicks on the flashlight, the gargoyle seems pretty pleased with him (he has began to be able to read her a little bit more, despite their less common outings than some of his other animals- like Auburn) and turns back around to head into that impenetrable darkness that laid beyond. Renathan shivered a bit as a wind blew through the cavern, and he pulled the cart along with him to follow after her.

There were plenty of mining trips that Renathan had been on that went quite well. In the past, he would often enough cart home enough high-quality gems to work on his own jewelsmithing business without having to buy too much raw stock and also enough to trade in for extra cash whenever he needed it. However, there were some less successful trips, and there were also several trips in which he had to practically escape from the jaws of some critter or another. The mines were dangerous, and he never really could forget it. With Sarabi there, it felt a bit less dangerous. She knew the place well, and though she had decided to come home with him and seemed to enjoy the amenities of his farm, she had never forgotten the way of the mines. She had managed to keep him out of trouble several times before, and he suspected that she would do so today as well.

Though Renathan did feel a little bit of a chill about what he was going to expect down in the mines today, he was also quite excited to see if he could find any gems worth working with. It had been such a long time since he had done any mining! He followed the gargoyle into the darkness with only the beam of his flashlight breaking into the darkness before he remembered that he needed to turn on the light pole he had attached to his mining cart. "Ooop- hold up Sarabi!" He says, stopping and turning around to fiddle with the apparatus. Sarabi's huff could be heard just ahead of him in the darkness as he quickly located the switch and turned it on. Light flooded the area, nearly hurting his own eyes (that had began to get used to the darkness from before but only just so), but he felt himself relax a little due to it.

With all of the stress having fallen out of his shoulders (which he had not even noticed that he had been holding quite tense), Renathan moved back to the front of the mining cart and started pulling it again. At first, it was quite difficult to get it to moving (it did hold all of his equipment, and getting it to roll over the slightly gravelly ground of this particular cave was a bit hard) but once it did start moving it was much easier to keep going. Sarabi got to moving again, stopping only momentarily here and there to sniff at the wall. Renathan once would have began running his own hands over the walls to look for any irregularities that would give him an inkling that it would be worth it to begin mining in that particular area, but he had long since learned that if there was something that was worth it to find; Sarabi would find it before he ever could.
