Renathan had really been looking forward to going home today, but now he was mostly curious as to what he would fine. He'd put this off for so long because he was mildly afraid of the mines now, and now that seemed a little silly. Just because something bad could happen, didn't mean it would, right? Renathan had to just put that kind of thing behind him, so that he could do better in the future, including here in the mines. He glanced around, looking for a moment but not seeing the gargoyle, before he finally found her and saw Sarabi digging in the wall not too far down now. Renathan was curious again; why was this area so full of gems? There were so many in this one little area, and it had been blocked off to where no one could get to it, at least without the severe difficulty that they had previously.

Renathan wondered if there was possibly something dangerous, not far down from these walls, or maybe around an as of yet unseen corner? He wanted to work as hard as possible to get as many gems as possible; maybe if he was lucky he'd be able to get what he came here for in the first place. It was incredibly important to work on, after all. He knew that Jack was counting on him, and she had helped him so much in the past before that it was super important for him to work as hard as he could to repay her. Of course, he knew that if she knew that he was planning such a thing, she would be quite upset with him for him thinking that he should do this in the first place! Sarabi was having a little bit more trouble digging in the wall this time, though, and that wasn't good.

Renathan wondered what could possibly be causing the gargoyle to began having issues with the wall like it was, and soon enough he realized that she might actually need his help due to a change in the rock composition right behind where the soft rock was where she was trying to dig. Renathan walks forward quietly, pickaxe in hand again, and then brushes her back gently to where she wouldn't be harmed by any debri he had made. He then quickly began digging into the wall using the pickaxe quite expertly, glad now that he had been given some time to make his arm not hurt quite so badly. Not long after he had began, the harder rock fell away back into the softer rock again, and Renathan backed away, happy with his work. The gargoyle moved back in, and began digging at the wall in the exact spot, right where the softer rock was revealed again.

Renathan wondered what would come out of the wall this time? He was a bit surprised to see a flash of blue and green as the creature clawed yet another piece of gemstone out of the rock wall. Yes; this was turning out to be a great haul today, despite the fact that three of the four stones so far were not his cup of tea really. He knew he could sell them if he had to, it would just take some work to do so. His arms were already pretty tired again. He really needed to be able to work on this more often, so that his arms didn't feel like they were going to fall off every time that he did this... The mammalian moved forward and put his hand down near the gem again, allowing the mining familiar to nose it into his hand. Yes, this was an azurite, he just knew it.

Of all of the blueish stones he had seen so far, Azurite was really his least favorite, but it was still a very bright colored stone, and that was much better than what they had been pulling up before hand Renathan was quiet for a moment as he quickly began to remove the carrier stone from the azurite. He was quite quick at it, he had been doing this for such a long time before, and he wasn't really sure why but it seemed like he was good at it when he first started working on it, too. Renathan finally got the carrier stone off of the gem, and then put it carefully in the pouch where he held the other gemstones they had found that day. He then looked up, and once again Sarabi was moving further down the mineshaft. Renathan quickly grabbed the handle to the cart's pulley and followed on after her.

There was not a whole lot that he could do anymore; save for follow her. Sure, he knew how to get out from here, but he didn't quite want to leave yet when he knew that they could probably find all kinds of awesome things here if he stayed just a little bit longer, after all. Renathan followed after Sarabi, trying his hardest to keep pace with her, though she was being quite quick at this point, and he was lugging around the mining cart, which was slowing him down a bit. Renathan was quite relieved when the gargoyle finally stopped, he was beginning to get a little winded, since it was a decent distance. Renathan watched as Sarabi began inspecting the walls again, and this time seemed to choose the opposite one of the side from last time. Renathan hoped that there wasn't another layer of hard rock beneath the soft layer of the wall.

Renathan really couldn't help but think as Sarabi began digging into the wall; he was worried about so many things right now, like how well Lisle was taking to his new sentience, how well Jack was taking to her new leg, and how close he was to finishing up a lot more of the training for all three of the creatures he'd been working on lately. He mulled over these things as Sarabi dug into the soft wall with her skilled claws, not quite noticing when she finally extracted whatever it had been that she had been trying to get at in the wall. Renathan scooted closer to see if there was any way he could see what it was she was digging out of there, and when it came out he was shocked to see another blue stone. Was it more Azurite? He put his hand down to retrieve it, and the gargoyle nosed it into his palm.

Renathan lifted the blueish stone to his face and was actually surprised to see bands. He hadn't ever gotten to cut one of these before, but he had seen them before otherwise. Renathan knew that it was a type of agate, a rare form of blue agate, and he could hardly wait to get around to cutting this. Hopefully he would be able to, at least. He had so much stuff he wanted to do and so very little time to actually get it done in. He wanted to spend at least a little more time down here in the mines with the familiar, looking for those crystal things. He'd probably not find one this go around, he hoped to high goodness that he would eventually though. He had several more mining trips planned for this month after this one. Hopefully, anyway. Renathan cleared the carrier stone off the rock, and the gargoyle sniffed at the walls curiously.

Renathan was finally able to get all of that carrier stone off of the agate, and he raised it approvingly back to his face again. He was certainly getting quite tired, and his hands were even starting to hurt, be he wasn't going to leave here until they at least found one crystal. Renathan really didn't even know what to do in order to do that. There was so much stuff going on, and he wasn't sure what to focus on first. The gargoyle seemed to have decided that the opposite wall probably held something as well, because she was already digging into it when Renathan came back around to paying attention. The gargoyle was certainly getting more and more used to Renathan's presence, Renathan could tell because the creature was paying more and more attention to him in between attempts at the wall. Perhaps it was because he was basically a walking gem hoard?

Renathan was glad that the familiar was getting more and more used to him, because that meant that they could focus more and more on finding gemstones, and less and less time with Renathan worrying about whether or not the familiar would actually run away from him or something else worse. Renathan was quiet, watching as the gargoyle performed her work on the wall. He was amazed by how easy the familars seemed to have it down here. Could they feel the gems? He had an idea that perhaps they did. Was that why the Gargoyle tended to know exactly where to dig? Were some mining familiars better at it than others? Renathan watched as the creature pulled yet another precious stones from the wall; this one another obsidian. Renathan admittedly wasn't huge on the dark black colored stones, they sometimes looked a bit boring when socketed. Renathan stepped forward, and scooped it up.

Sarabi seemed quite proud of herself, having found so many gems in the soft rock walls already. Renathan, though, was already quite tired. He quickly cleaned the obsidian off and out of it's carrier stone, giving it a quick polish just to take up some more time, and then he placed the stone in with the others in his pouch. Renathan patted the gargoyle on the shoulder as a sign of comradie, and surprisingly enough the creature did not seem to view this as some kind of attack or anything. That was good, that meant that she was getting more and more used to him! Renathan could hardly wait to see what they found next! He quickly puts all of his tools into the mining cart and then follows Sarabi down the mining shaft further, as she checked here and there, probably trying to sense a stone or two; but who knows what kinds?

Renathan was very surprised, as they began walking forward, that the walls were beginning to change, and morph into something quite different. For one, the walls themselves were going from the typical grey to a shimmering black sandy looking wall; but when Renathan touched it, nothing flaked off. It was almost like a black sandstone of some kind? Renathan only knew one thing that often had black sand; volcanic areas. Renathan was a bit nervous, he was sure that this wasn't a lava-tube, was it? That wasn't good, Lava Tubes were super dangerous. Renathan pushed forward a little more, following after Sarabi, and suddenly the gargoyle stopped; the walls had changed again. This time, the black sandstone-looking substance was still there, but the walls were absolutely -riddled- with veins. They were in almost every color of the rainbow, and the sight took Renathan's breath away. Sarabi seemed just as shocked, looking out at it as if she'd never seen so many veins in her life.

Renathan wasn't sure where to start at all; but he quickly takes a sharp intake of breath, remembering to breath after a moment or two. Renathan knew that he was looking for something specific, and that he couldn't feel it yet, but there were so many gems here that he needed to focus on them instead of actually looking for the fire crystals he was really trying to get for Jack. He hoped to find at least one today... How many did she need again? He wasn't sure. The mammalian cleared his mind, and grabbed for his pickaxe again. It was time to start digging; anywhere would do. Sarabi may not understand his body language at all yet, but she did get that the pickaxe meant digging, and she needed to get a move on too! Sarabi picked a spot on the wall and began digging, trying to pull out as much of the vein as she could.

Renathan caught a glimpse of a golden color at his side; and he knew it was pyrite immediately. Normally he didn't waste his time with pyrite, but he figured at the very least he could sell it for credits, or give it to someone that wanted to work with the finicky stuff. It wasn't even as pretty as gold, in his opinion. It amazed him that some people thought it was gold when they saw it, because it really looked absolutely nothing alike. And it stank. Yeah, absolutely stank, but to his knowledge most of the humans didn't seem to have as good a nose as he did. He wondered if that was a thing all humans lacked, or if it was just one or two of them. Renathan pulled his pickaxe back and began working the pyrite out, leaving Sarabi to dig in her own area on the other side, directly across from him.
