Renathan wasn't quite sure exactly what he wanted to do next when it came to the training. He knew he wanted to do simpler, more calm training today instead of finishing any battle training. However, Renathan was beginning to worry and wonder about their battle training. Sure, the stallion was trained very well physically; but he didn't know what to do about those that were immune to more physical attacks, or what to do about opponents like that blasted blue drake that evaded him every step of the way. What would he do in that instance? As much as he hated to subject another of his creatures to injections, he knew that he was going to have to inject the stallion with something in hopes of getting some kind of elemental attack to hopefully make up for that weakness. He'd have to decide what kind of element would work best... Some creatures were immune to different elements.
Renathan decides that they would need to wait on any possible injections until further in the future. He did not want to get wrapped up in training some of those more difficult things before he finished the absolute basics of the battle readiness plan. Renathan decides that the next bit of training should be the turning left or right thing, and then maybe they'd work on either going faster or slower, or maybe even the right saddlebag location? Renathan pets the stallion a bit and the decides to start on that whole turning left and right. Thanks to the bridle knowledge, the Stallion already appeared to know the absolute basics of being under the saddle; but Renathan wanted to be able to control him with only his knees, so that his hands were free during a battle. The stallion would be excellent with it, he just had to make the stallion know when he needed him to go left and right.

Renathan ties the reins around the saddlehorn and then holds on to the creature using his knees mostly. The stallion takes this as a squeeze to go, which is fine by Renathan. After a little ways, Renathan releases the pressure on one side and presses on the other side simultaneously, trying to use his natural movements to get the equillion to move away from the pressure, since he tended to already use the entire 'move away from the pressure' aspect (that most large animals tended to do naturally) to train things already. The stallion did move with him, sensing his movement and perhaps even the empathic link helping out as it tended to do. The stallion turned toward the side that the pressure was not on, as expected. Renathan stops the creature, and gives him a treat of a crisp pink apple slice so that he knew he had done a good job!
Renathan watches the stallion eat his piece of apple quietly, a nice blushing pink color of apple it was, one of the prettier ones. Renathan remembered looking at that apple earlier this morning before he cut it up, admiring the nice color. The stallion finishes up the apple piece rather quickly, and Renathan sits back on the saddle a little bit. The training was pretty quick with the stallion, so it probably wouldn't take too much longer. Renathan quietly orders the stallion to move forward, using the pressure on the sides, and then applies the pressure that would signal the stallion to move toward the right, dropping pressure on the right side, and pushing on the left to guide the stallion. The creature moves quickly into the right direction. Then, Renathan mixes it up by dropping the pressure on the left and pushing on the right side. The stallion seems confused for a second, and then moves to the left instead.
The stallion was performing just as Renathan had hoped, so Renathan orders him to stop with a gentle pull to the reins, and then gives him yet another crisp pink apple slice so that he could make sure that the behavior went rewarded. That way the stallion knew that it was doing very well, and that the behavior should be replicated. Renathan then decided that they should continue on. He planned to incorporate this eventually into their other mount related training, but he knew that they weren't quite ready for that. He wanted to make sure that the behavior was well cemented. Renathan waits until the stallion is finished with the apple piece before he pushes the stallion to go toward the left with the command, pleased when he began doing so, and then to the right... Then far to the left again. The stallion did not seem bothered that they were going in circles.
Renathan soon happily stops the stallion to give him his treat. The crisp pink apple slices were very easily carried in his waist pouch, and he was thankful that he did not seem to be running out of the little slices any time soon. The stallion receives his prize without any incident, eating the small piece with a slightly thoughtful expression in his bright milky blue eyes. Renathan pets him on the shoulder, happy with the process and the progress that they were making now. After the stallion finished, Renathan worked for the next thirty minutes with the stallion, working him through all of his commands while using the left and right commands instead of the bridle knowledge, that way he would move even without Renathan holding onto the reins. Renathan was finally very pleased with the stallion's responsiveness; it was about time to move on to something else. He wondered what he should do next?
Renathan was wondering what to train next. Should he continue with working on the saddle, or take a break and work on the training that required Renathan to be on the ground. Renathan had been keeping up with what kinds of training the two were working on, and had recently realized that they hadn't been keeping up with the exact ones well enough... Well, that was his fault of course. Now he had to remember to work on other behaviors he had forgotten! Renathan decides to give the stallion's poor back a break for a little while, so he dismounts the stallion and then pets his side for a moment. Then, he backs up, and points to the RIGHT saddlebag now. "Right Saddlebag. RIGHT saddlebag." The stallion sniffs Renathan's arm for a moment, and then turns to the left and opens up the saddlebag on that side with his nose. Renathan could almost laugh!

The stallion had chosen the wrong side! Renathan wonders if the stallion had indeed learned the command by hearing the word 'saddlebag' instead of the specific word 'left'. Renathan shook his head, conveying that it was wrong, and then he repeats himself. "RIGHT saddlebag, right." He specifies, and then gently guides the stallion's head to the other side using both of his hands carefully on the underside of it's chin. He then feels the stallion take over, and open up the right saddlebag this time. Renathan happily gives him a small piece of the crisp pink apple. Then, he quietly watches as the stallion eats it. He wondered if eventually they would be able to get it to where the stallion could differentiate between the two commands well enough. After the stallion was finished with his apple snack Renathan decided that they would continue on with the training more, this time with him guiding the stallion until he seemed to be able to do it himself.
Renathan takes the stallion's face in his hands again, and then specifies the command again. "Right Saddlebag, RIGHT saddlebag." At the same time he moved the bay equillion's head over to the right side, where he took over and opened up the right saddlebag with his nose. Renathan gave the stallion a small crisp pink apple treat for his job, and then he raises up to look at the sky again. The lavender shade was really starting to spread now, though the stars were still out in full force, twinkling in the blanket of the sky. Renathan pets the stallion's shoulder as he eats, and then when he finishes Renathan decides to continue. "Right Saddlebag." When the stallion started to move over to the left side, Renathan specified with a stern tone... "RI-IGHT Saddlebag." The bay equillion turns over to the right side this time, and noses open the saddlebag. Renathan was well pleased!
Renathan quickly grabs a nice small crisp pink apple piece for the stallion and offers it to him for a treat. Yes, that was good, he was sure. Renathan then pets the stallion's muzzle gently. Then, he waits for the stallion to finish his treat and then he begins to continue with the training yet again. Renathan points toward the right side again, and calls out, "RIGHT saddlebag." The stallion turns toward that side, and opens up the saddlebag easily. Renathan gives him a good crisp pink apple piece for the trouble, and after he was finished with it, Renathan goes ahead and continues. "Right Saddlebag." He says, without pointing this time. The stallion slips an ear back, but turns to his right side to open up the saddlebag. Renathan could not have been more pleased; that felt like real progress! The mammalian quickly retrieves the piece of apple that was required, and gives it to the stallion.
The stallion takes the piece of crisp pink apple slice and quickly gulps it down, then he nuzzled Renathan's pocket for more. Renathan gently guides his face away with a laugh, and then Renathan continues with the training. Renathan calls out a command, "Right Saddlebag." He specifies it. The stallion turns over to his right side, and noses open the saddlebag. Then, Renathan gives him another piece of apple. Soon after the stallion finishes his apple, Renathan starts again. "Left Saddlebag." The stallion starts to go to his right, but quickly corrects to his left and opens the saddle. Renathan gives him another piece of apple. "Right Saddlebag." The stallion moves back over to the right side, and opens up the right saddlebag. The stallion receives another piece of apple for it. Then, Renathan continues between the two until there is no hesitation or difficulty in choosing the correct side with each command word. Renathan is pleased!
Renathan was soon enough quite fine with the location trick. He wasn't sure what to work on next, but he wanted to continue training until he simply couldn't anymore today. They sure had got an excellent start this morning, very early, before dawn even. The morning air was quite cool after all, and that was great. It made it quite crisp to breathe, and reminded him of a morning long ago. Renathan takes a moment just to breathe it in while he tried to decide what they would work on next. He decided that 'drop' would probably be a good idea next, so that he could start on a specialized kind of training in a few days. Renathan picks up a small stick in his hands, and then gently slots it into the stallion's mouth. There we go, he thought, that would make a good start. "Drop." Renathan calls out, and then he goes to take the stick from him.

At the first tug that Renathan exerts on the stick in the stallion's mouth, Shy Guy drops the stick into his hand. Renathan is pleased at this, even if it is a small bit of a progress as of yet. Renathan then gives the stallion a smaller piece of apple than usual, to show that this was the first little bit of good behavior that had been shown for the command. Renathan pets the stallion's mane for a moment as the bay equillion finishes up his piece of apple, and then Renathan puts the stick back into the creature's mouth without any issues at all. "Drop." Renathan doesn't wait long. He puts his hand beneath the stallion's mouth and waits for the stick to be deposited into it. The stallion stood there for a long moment. "Drop." He reiterates, and then gently touches the stick with one hand. The stallion drops the stick at that.
Renathan hoped that he would be able to wean the stallion off of needing the stick to be touched in order to drop it. He wasn't sure why that was the case thus far anyway. Still, he had done well, and Renathan could not complain at all. Renathan gives the stallion a small piece of apple to reinforce the behavior, however, knowing by now that a small issue in the beginning typically worked itself out by the end of the training. Renathan waits until the stallion finishes his apple well before putting the stick back into the stallion's mouth yet again as gently as possible. Shy Guy looks at Renathan with an uncertain expression on his face, but Renathan knew it should be fine. "Drop." Renathan asks, and then he gestures beneath the stallion's mouth. The equillion does drop the stick this time without a touch, watching Renathan's arm carefully.
Renathan pulls a more typical piece of crisp pink apple slice, one that was the usual size. Renathan was happy that the stallion was making some more progress; he didn't like spending a ton of time on simple tasks like this one, and he hoped to move on to something else soon enough. The stallion seems to relish this snack, taking a little more time than usual to finish it off. Renathan sticks to the task, however. As soon as the stallion was finished with his treat, the mammalian placed the stick in the equillion's mouth yet again. Renathan wasted no time. "Drop." He commands quickly. The stallion once again drops the stick without any issue, into his hand. Renathan was happy, yet again, with this process. He takes another piece of the crisp pink apple slices from his pouch and offers it palm-up to the stallion for a treat for the correct behavior.
