Native Language: Common
Eyes: Gold, almond-shaped
Hair: Orange-gold (roots) into crimson, mixed with feathers
Weight: 135 lbs
Build: Lean, lithe; generally moves with a dancer’s unconscious grace. After periods of hard physical work, however, he can sometimes be stiff, as if troubled by old scars or injuries.
Other unusual features: His nails have a tendency to grow into long, hardened points if left untrimmed, but are unremarkable in appearance when kept in check. The front of his lower legs are also tougher, having a somewhat scaled appearance.
Clothes: Mostly simple, durable, comfortable clothing. Outside the home, he dresses for practicality in his work. He used to favor dull, ugly colors, as though dressing himself down, but recent years have seen him begin to explore options that appeal to him more personally. Within the comfort of his own home, he wears softer clothes of finer materials, sometimes cut and tailored in the fashion of his homeland. This, too, has been a recent development.
Tattoos: Half sleeves/shoulder tattoos, though you wouldn't usually see them unless you encounter him out during the summer. On the inside of his left wrist, a more recent acquisition, is this:
|Mental and/or Social Description:|

Dislikes: Crowds, being hit on, enclosed spaces, rain, snow, winter
Aster is an introvert. He doesn't like people and people don't like him. End of story. Mostly.
When he does try to socialize, it's usually stilted and awkward on his part, which sometimes comes across as surliness. He's surly by default, so it can be hard to tell the difference. It's not helped by his lack of good manners; due to his childhood and upbringing (or rather, the distinct lack thereof), he never learned the right norms. In addition to that, he is no native of the Labs, so the cultural gap is twofold.
Despite efforts over the years, trust still doesn't come easily to him--- at least, not when it comes to people. He generally balks in the face of open friendliness, suspecting some ulterior motive. Often times he doesn't want to get to know someone at all, and he's perfectly happy to inform them of that in no uncertain terms.
As a trainer of beasts, he's more at ease around creatures (even unfriendly ones) than he is around people. It works out, since he lives as a recluse, spending most of his time on his home property with just his creatures for companionship. First and foremost, however, those creatures are his first line of defense against... something. It's hard to tell what he's afraid of, exactly. He's stayed at the Labs for years, and so far his so-called guardians haven't seen any reason for him to be so careful.
The one thing that's strictly off limits is asking about his past. There are... quirks that hint at something: certain days when he becomes uncharacteristically gloomy; a particular disregard for keepers of the law; his aversion, to remarkable degrees, to human physical contact. But he absolutely refuses to talk about his life before the labs, except that, yes, there was one, and that he's left it behind for good.
Kept as a closely-guarded secret from even his most trusted confidants. All that anyone knows about Aster's life prior to arriving at the labs is that he was homeless for an unspecified amount of time--- and that's if he likes you, really likes you. He never mentions any family, nor has anyone from his past ever tried to re-establish contact. According to him, the desire to cut ties was mutual, but based on his refusal to have anything to do with the subject, it's just as likely that he simply put too much physical distance between himself and his past.
