Renathan was generally very good at being able to tell when danger was going to happen, but right now he was off a bit it would seem. Part of the issue was that his nerves were FRIED from the tournament. Absolutely fried. He had no idea what to do. He hadn't noticed when Shy Guy had become such a big influence on his emotional state until he was too weak to really help the mammalian control his own. Now they were both down and out, and it was obvious the influence on Auburn and Lisle was huge thanks to the emotional imbalance. Thanks to Renathan's bonds with them, they were all a complicated web. Renathan hated to realize that, but it was true. Now, trapped underground under the influence of the Mansion's strange magic, Renathan was panicky, and trying to keep it under control. Because he knew that none of the creatures needed him acting whiny right now.

It didn't take long for Renathan to see what the next challenge was, and it was something he wasn't sure he would make it across for. There were several pillars, standing in a huge pit. They might could actually allow crossing to the other side if he actually could do it; but Renathan wasn't sure if he could. "...Auburn, I think you can make it over, and maybe see if anything is across there. I... I am worried about you." He said, looking into her bright silvery eyes. He petted her on the head between the ears. "If you make it over, then I'll try, okay?" At that, he gave her the command to fly, and threw his arm out slightly, willing her to make it to the other side despite the difficult air and lack of updrafts. The izer made it over easily, and Renathan gave her the command to land.

Auburn landed on the other side of the pit, and Renathan took a breath. The mammalian stared down into the chasm, and then looked over the pillars he was supposed to go on; they were thicker and looked like sawed-off stalagmites; perfectly flat up top. Renathan wasn't sure if he would make it over, but they were just close enough that he could theoretically run over them. He wasn't sure if he wanted to try. The thought of going backwards and going back through that practical graveyard terrified him, but he didn't really want to die today either. He could hear, just quietly below in the chasm; the sound of water rushing. Renathan backed up a few feet, emptied his mind as much as possible, and took off running, gauging his steps to fit the distance between the pillars. He only noticed that they had crumbled beneath his feet when he got to the otherside, feeling like he'd been helped out a little bit along the way somehow...

Renathan was breathing pretty hard at this point. He hadn't noticed that he was terrified until his knees hit the powder black sand and he leaned over the edge, feeling ill again. Auburn snuggled up into his leg, trying to calm him down. Perhaps she knew how bad of a situation that was, or perhaps she was oblivious and simply cared for Renathan when he was feeling panicky. Renathan was never really sure how 'there' Auburn was in any situation; she was clever and picked up tricks super fast, but she was still a bird, after all. Even though she really didn't look like one all that much. Finally, after a few moments of freaking out, the mammalian stands up on his paws, and then turns around. He made it over the chasm, there had to be something that would let them out over this way, right? He sure hoped so.

Renathan bent down and scooped Auburn up, placing her on his shoulder carefully. "Alright Auburn, we've got to get out of here. Do you think that we'll get out if we go this way? I sure as heck am not going to be going back the way we came, that is for sure." He began walking forward, nearly tripping over a rock and into a small pool. He wasn't sure if these were going to be very common, but they were so hard to see under the blue glowing lights here. It was really a shame, because it seemed like there was something in this one? A shell. Renathan bent down and picked up the shell carefully, looking it over. There was some kind of fish near it; thankfully he had brought a carrier for such things, and he scooped up the critter along with some water. "Well, might as well go home with something, right?"

Renathan was trying to remain on the positive side as he continued moving now that he had picked up the strange oddities. He nearly fell into a few more small water puddles, but each time that he did, he felt like he was getting a sniff of fresh air from somewhere. "Auburn, where do you think that is coming from?" He asked after the latest near-trip. The russet mammalian finally got a bit of an idea, nearly suddenly, and then he dropped to the ground slowly. He sniffed the air there, and felt a bit of a draft of fresh air coming from ahead, moving past him. He nearly gasped. "Ah, that's fresh air! It's coming from ahead!" There was a chance that they could get out up here, if the opening to the air was big enough! Renathan stood up and began running, careful not to fall into any pools.

There was one more area of trouble, Renathan saw, but he was sure that they could take it on. He was literally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel; they were nearly out! That was all the mammalian could think about as he made a beeline for the light. However; he did stop and see the last room; at the end of it in front of the light was a huge treasure chest; but before that there was loads of fishing line and even a huge fishing neat affixed; if he had kept running, Renathan might have fallen and gotten hurt. In fact, he would have definitely gotten tangled up in that net. He skidded at the end, hardly stopping before getting to the first fishing line. Renathan's face looked determined beneath the mask. He began stepping over the fishing line gingerly, between the holes of the net. They were getting out of here!

The trek was slow going, even though Renathan was hyper determined to get out of this fresh hell. He stepped delicately over the trip wires that were simply fishing lines. He didn't really want to find out AT ALL what tripping over one of those wires would be like! He was able to step between the holes of the net quite well; it must have been meant to catch something really big if it had holes this big. Renathan was wanting to get out, but first; he was going to check what was in that chest! He hoped that it was something really good. He wasn't thinking that it could possibly be dangerous at first. However, when he finally made it through the fishing line traps, he saw that the chest was rotted; absolutely horrid looking. Auburn was acting like it was scary, so he didn't know if he wanted to check it...
Renathan and Auburn collect anything within reach; and then beeline for the light. The two get out of the trap that the mansion seemed to have set for them; and make their way home.

A teeny diving bell protrudes from the sand nearby, a modest treasure considering all it took to venture here. At least there's a neat telescope too!

Renathan wasn't going to be here very long today, oh no, but he did need to spend some time with his beloved Auburn, and so that he would do. "Alrighty Auburn, you wanna go somewhere with me today?" Auburn generally went to work with Renathan, but he had been so busy as of late that he just had so much going on that he couldn't go everywhere with her. She leaps up onto his shoulder, as was her favorite place to be, with a soft trill. That, and they were off! "We're going to the mansion today." Renathan told her, even though she had no idea what he was saying. That was a good thing, Renathan preferred his creatures that way to be honest. She trilled a happy song, something she had retained from being a jibiji most of her life. They made it to the mansion grounds quickly.

Renathan wanted to teach Auburn a few more things, the last few things on her list, but they were surprisingly still a bit off on the list for that. He needed to spend more time with her to get her ready for those things! Renathan had not been ignoring her lately, he just hadn't been training her as much now that they don't have such a big list to work on. He sighed, but stood there in the mansion grounds, near the very start of it, and took a glance around. "Well, what do you think, Auburn?" He asked, smiling beneath the mask though no one would see it. The izer didn't really know what he was talking about, but she turned her head as he did, taking in the area just as he was doing. That was the way they tended to be, the pair worked together very well!

Renathan did really enjoy Auburn's company. Adventuring with her was much easier, she was naturally intuned with him to a large degree, and she tended to follow his bodily language better than anything else around! Renathan smiled at her, just thinking about it. However, he didn't like having more than one creature with him at a time, he liked to be able to make sure that his meat eaters didn't eat the smaller critters, and that critters didn't get in fights... With Shy Guy, Renathan was afraid that he would Eat Auburn. For one, he liked to sometimes catch birds, just nab them out of the sky if they got too close, and stomp them until dead before eating them. He was a nonstandard pure for sure, and Renathan was never really sure why. Auburn was too much of a bird to have around him like that! That's why he took Auburn by herself often.

It generally took a goodly amount of time for Renathan to work with his critters around going to work nowadays. Perhaps in some small way that was a good thing, there was no reason for Renathan to exhaust himself all the time, and since he was never going to step foot in the pit again as far as he was concerned, there was no real need to do what he had wanted to do and train most of his creatures to become excellent battlers. It was such a big goal for him all the time, that not having it now had made him depressed. He wasn't doing too well, but at least the panic had began to ebb away and pass. His creatures had been driven crazy by that for a long time. Auburn cuddles into the bottom of his jaw for a moment and he gently pets her. "Don't worry, I am doing well." He said to her, cooing.

Time and Time again, Renathan tried and failed at the things he liked to do. It made him feel more and more depressed, and honestly he hardly enjoyed anything anymore. However, he was sure that eventually this, like all things, would pass. Renathan patted Auburn right behind her cute little ears, and then he resolved to at least have a little fun out here in the mansion this month, even if this was technically a 'get Auburn more used to exploring and training and stuff again' trip. The grass felt horrible and crunchy against Renathan's feet, dangerous and sharp in a way, even if not literally. It was brown as far as the eye could see, and soon he also saw that there was fresh dirt around 'graves' across the way. Renathan could see them clear as day from the first hillock on the grounds. Was this a month where the outside was more neat than the inside of the mansion?
