The wind must have been foreboding some kind of change; because a change happened faster than his eyes could blink. Renathan finds himself tossed to the ground whenever the grounds begin to shift; the actual dirt itself rolling almost like an earthquake had happened. Renathan instinctively holds the jibiji to him to keep it from being tossed away, and then he simply waits. He can feel the world shifting around him; making him feel minutely ill. He knew that he had been coming in on a 'change day' but he had no idea that it was going to be this violent of a change. Renathan feels shaky as the world finally stops spinning. He tries to rise to his feet; and cannot. He sits there for a moment, and opens his eyes. He was very dizzy; and can hardly see anyway. He squints, and then rolls over and heaves on the ground, making sure his little jibiji is clinging to his braids on his back instead of in his hands at this point.

Renathan lays back down on his belly for a moment, feeling the soft grass beneath his fingers as the jibiji sits on his back. He knew where he was; but he didn't understand exactly what had happened for a moment. He had to think really hard for a moment; so that he could figure out what had gone on. He was at the Mansion. The Month had changed. The ground had rolled. That probably meant that it was going to look completely different when his body finally adjusted. He hoped that it had changed around him, and not changed him too. He runs his hand over his body for a moment, first on his arms, and then his shoulders and chest. Then he puts his hands on his mask and under it to his face. Yes, he seemed to be fine; it must have not had changed him. He wondered how far away from the Mansion he was now; or if he was actually in the Mansion now?

The mammalian sits up after what felt like forever, and slowly begins to pry his eyes open. The jibiji crawls up under his jaw, and climbs down onto his shoulder from his back finally. Renathan is able to get his eyes open and he is amazed by what he sees. There is a tree in front of him; twisted and black, with fleshy red hearts on it; in a classic cartoony shape thankfully. Renathan is sitting on his rump in the grass; which seemed normal enough. The grass was normal. Renathan slowly rises to his feet, shaking a bit as he goes up. The jibiji is now worried; she nestles up under his jaw making him feel much calmer. He rises to full-standing height, and feels his heart hammering. The world had shifted violently around him and he was definitely feeling it. He had never been in the Mansion during this month; so he didn't know what to think.

Renathan's body certainly felt tired; but he wanted to push through to explore this new month; even if it was super strange and different. He was certainly a little scared; since he hadn't done his research for this month. He does go forward to check out the strange tree; but super cautiously. He'd already realized in the past that this place was dangerous and frightening at all times; and had several tricks up it's sleeve. He had no doubt in his mind that the Mansion was sentient, and he wasn't sure what to think of that, though think he did, in fact. Renathan approaches the tree slowly, and raises his hand up. At this moment, he remembers about the ivory tower previously; he'd touched it and he'd been grasped by dangerous vines! Renathan lets his hand drop, and he simply leans forward and squints to figure out what was going on here with this tree thing.

The tree's bark was pure black; like it had been cut from pitch-black cardboard, and the bark seemed like it could peel off like birch bark. Renathan had never seen a birch like this before; however! Normal birches had peeling bark and pale white bark; this was certainly not that. Renathan leans close enough to the tree to smell it; it smelled much more like a hickory tree than a birch tree. Renathan looks up quietly; squinting. He cannot see any leaves at all; instead; the barren tree simply has thicker, sharper twigs ending in those strange burst-red colored heart fruits. Renathan stares up at it quietly, and then steps back to where he was standing beneath one of those bright red fruits so that he could examine it. It was plump and just tantalizing ripe; he could tell that something was up with it. It just looked too tasty for him; he wanted to bite right into that. It was a bad idea most certainly.

A nightmare oozes from the tree, ready to ensnare any victim in its wake...

Little does Renathan know; but he is about to receive the shock of a lifetime. He is too busy checking out the strangely delicious-looking fruits to realize what is going on; in fact, his jibiji sees it first! The jibiji lets out a shocked shriek as soon as she does; making Renathan's attention fall away from the fruit; and draw to look around for whatever the danger was. He was not able to see it well; at first; he glances down to his little jibiji and gives her a quick pet to quiet her; but she is still looking forward, and not toward Renathan at all. That was abnormal; she looked so defiant; and that wasn't in her usual range of emotions at all. Renathan squints and then catches sight of something... Morphing out of the wood? But how was that possible; and what was it? Renathan's heart was hammering as he watched.

The thing that was morphing from the pitch black wood of the tree was almost like tar or pitch itself; it was dark black, perhaps even blacker than black, seeing as Renathan could clearly see it against the darkness of the trunk of the twisted tree. Renathan instinctively takes a step back, his eyes glued to the strange ethereal-like monster; until it neatly removes itself from the confines of the tree trunk; and Renathan realizes just how -small- the thing is. Renathan could have laughed if not for the fear of what it could perhaps actually do. Renathan had no idea if the tree was projecting something as a trap or to scare away potential predators; or perhaps some kind of strange pet? He wasn't ever really sure around here. However, it was incredibly tiny and thus hardly terrifying; only frightening in it's possibilities. Renathan swallows, and tries to decide what to do with the strange thing.

The mammalian stands there for a moment, his waist sash stark still in the perfect lack of a wind out here... Or was he really 'out here'? Renathan still didn't know quite if he was outside or not; but he'd have to deal with the current possible threat before figuring out whether he was outside or not. He didn't want to abandon the tree or he would have simply ran; but the creature was moving slow enough that he could have possibly done so. He could see it much better now anyway; it had a mouth and two eyes; all in white. Or rather, it was the suggestion of such; the 'mouth' could hardly be called that, it was much more like a series of small holes in the suggestion of a maw with horrid teeth. He wasn't sure what it was made out of but it appeared to have a gaseous form at least.

The tiny creature almost looked like something out of a nightmare; and it certainly didn't seem benign! The small thing gave a strange gurgled cackle; and that made Renathan's hair stand up and his body shiver. That was certainly not a normal noise; the thing almost looked like it could have been made out of goo if not for the whole floating gas thing. Renathan was honestly a little more puzzled than frightened now. He leans forward, and glances at the floating gaseous thing. He sticks out a finger; and watches as it goes to eat his finger; stretching that gaping goopy mouth wide open; it fails to cause harm to him; only just going right through him, or perhaps shifting around his more corporeal form. Renathan bursts out in laughter; the thing was simply cute! Renathan chuckles after this, and then breathes in, trying to catch his bearings. The little jibiji was no longer scared; since his reaction was so mild.

The Mansion was quite possibly sinister and certainly full of surprises; but it wasn't too horrid at all times; sometimes it did little pointless things like this. Or at least he didn't think the tiny creature was doing him any harm; not that it didn't intend to! It obviously was out for blood, or souls or something, but it just couldn't back up the behavior due to it's gaseous form. Renathan figured that if possible; he may try to keep it as an amusing small pet animal? If possible, that was. "Well look at that, Auburn, it's harmless." He gives another chuckle and then turns to face the tree again, paying very little attention to the small wispy ghost thing that seemed interested in eating him; if only it could. The tree was still intriguing, and this whole situation had made him less afraid of it, after all. He sort of wanted to pluck one of those fruits; but was still quite hesitant.

The big creature sits for a moment in its alcove, staring at the man and his Jibiji as they were attacked by the nightmare. They were odd things, to be sure, but it didn't know what to do about them. They had walked into its turf, that meant intruders, that meant war. It snorted and dust came from it's nose when it did, and then it stood up and stalked toward the man, horns lowered, a deep rumble coming from it's throat.

Renathan had been so mesmerized by the tree and the strange little nightmare-looking thing that he hadn't of course noticed the alcove not far from here. It probably wasn't helped by the fact that there was an utter void of things that actually smelled like anything; and he did rely on his sense of smell often. Renathan also couldn't really pick up many magical signatures around here; mostly because almost everything was magic anyway! Renathan does notice movement though, and turn towards it. He is surprised at the hulk of the creature; and the colors it put off. W-was that a dragon? Renathan didn't feel like he had a lot of time to figure that out. He doesn't move forward, but doesn't flinch back either. He keeps calm, watching it's lowered head. In his native land; head-lowered meant respect, but he knew lots of animals locked horns to fight; so that lowered head was a threat. He speaks low and soft; feeling the jibiji cuddle up under his neck. "Shhshh, hey now... Yeah, it's fine, I'm not here to hurt you." He keeps his body loose and non-threatening, turning his antlers away from the creature but keeping his eyes on it. He kind of wanted it? He'd captured mining familiars before, but this felt different.

The dragon stared hard at him and then leaned forward a little to sniff at the little bird cuddling up to him. If he had been solid instead of ethereal, it was certain the Jibiji would be food, but seeing as how he wasn't, she was just a curiosity to it right now. Giving the bird one last, hard look, it turned it's full attention to the man. It stood there a moment, then started to circle him, sniffing him up and down to see what kind of a threat he truly was to his territory.
