It had been quite a while since Renathan had personally went into his garden, and as much as he hated to admit it, it showed. He'd had a hired hand checking on the creatures, and other than that, the whole thing had grown up and over like a jungle. Well, perhaps not quite that bad, but it felt like it. Renathan placed his palm up against his mask and sighed as he stood at the gate, knowing that he had so much work to do that he had no idea how he was going to get it done. It felt like cheating to hire someone to do it, however.
Renathan carried all of his tools in a satchel on his back, having had a hunch that it would be difficult to get to his toolshed. However, he hadn't expected to immediately see the most dangerous creature in his garden; the trick serpent.

"Why, hello there Unseelie." Renathan said, instinctively wrapping his tails around one ankle. He knew that this creature was fairly venomous, and of course in a few months would most likely produce decently venomous berries, as well. He wondered if that would be something he could aspire to go ahead and fix up, this year. Renathan had not really been around enough, due to his job, to really get any of the special ingredients from his creatures this year. Perhaps, in the upcoming year, he should work to get all of his creatures to give up their special ingredients? At the very least, he could sell quite a bit of produce. Did anyone even buy produce?
As Renathan was standing there thinking and generally trying to put off doing what he was going to need to do, Unseelie boredly moved away, and into the overgrowth. "Hey- come back!" He called.

Of course, Renathan had not bothered to train most of the beasts in his garden, and really, that was a bad mistake. Unseelie was gone from sight, but Renathan did know the creature and his own instincts enough to know that it was simply in the overgrowth, watching him. Renathan quickly steps into the garden, keeping watch for any beasties that might try to escape, and quickly closed the gate again and locked it. He stood there, looking for his lovely rock garden path, and not finding it, went ahead and pulled a rather dull-looking machete out of his backpack. "Well Unseelie, I don't know where you are, but I do know you're still there, so uh- don't get in my way?" He said, hopefully, before turning around and searching for the lightest hint of that rock path that he knew had to be around here somewhere, if not obscured.

Of course, Renathan was not sure that the machete would do any damage to the trick serpent in it's current state anyway. It was probably going to take a lot of his muscle just to hack away at the bark and roots and whatever else there was going to be in his path, so Renathan was already feeling the ache, at least in his mind, that was going to be in his body later from it. Renathan let his breath out in a long sigh, and then started the process of hacking away at the mess as soon as his toe touched the path. It was indeed a lot of work. Each huge frond took two strikes to get it to cut away, and Renathan noticed only after he was mostly done with about a foot of the work that he had no idea what he was going to do with the debri.

The mammalian knew that he could put the debris in the compost pile- that was what he planned to do anyway, but he'd made the mistake of not bringing anything to carry them in! The wheelbarrow would work, but it was in the shed, and the shed was close to the gazebo, and honestly that was going to take a lot more than a foot of work to get to. Renathan rolled his eyes, and then would have rolled up his sleeves if he had any. He could still feel the creature watching Morgan a little farther back, but and hiding in the bushes, thankfully it wasn't anywhere near where he was going to be working, just close enough to watch him. Renathan started up work on clearing the path, trying to keep an eye on where he was sure the creature was hiding at the same time, just in case it decided to try to bite him.

Renathan continued to work on clearing the path, and Unseelie watched with bright eyes from behind a bush. The creature was a clever and curious one, and enjoyed watching the other creatures from hidden places in the garden. Unseelie felt like she knew all of the creatures in the garden quite well. There was the large dragon-y creature, though not too large to technically be her lunch, but it seemed to have some kind of interesting flamey bite thing that she was a little bit afraid of. That creature had the best sleeping spot in the entire garden. BUT that didn't stop Unseelie from infiltrating and sleeping in there as well, during the heats of summer or the colds of winter. Often, she went undetected. There was a hoard of little... Multicolor thingies that seemed edible but looked like too much work, at the same time. She steered clear of those.

Unseelie tended not to get into scuffles with the other creatures in the garden though. She realized that it was easy to find prey here that weren't the larger, probably more fierce creatures than the grain-fed mice that tended to be her usual fair. This was a good territory, but she was not sure what to think about this... Thing here. It was two-legged, like the dragon thing, but it came and went as it pleased. It appeared to have some kind of front appendages that could do things that she couldn't really imagine any of the other creatures doing- namely opening the door. Of course, she'd been happy to stay in the garden, but where did this creature go when it left? She watched him from the relative safety of her hiding place, as she generally did, as he destroyed the plants around him. Huh. Was he going to eat them?

It did occur to Unseelie that she knew what the other creatures in the garden ate. Thankfully, they were not the same thing that she did, or she may have to defend her food source, but thankfully she was quite fine. However, she did not know what this creature ate. She watched him cautiously, wondering if he was eating with his feet, like those strange multicolored mega-rats did? She watched as he continued to destroy the vegetation. It didn't appear that he was taking nutrients from the plants, he was simply leaving them there. He did not appear to be dangerous, however, so as he continued to go further into the garden, further away from where she could see properly, she moved further into the garden too, always remaining hidden but watching him all the same.
Renathan stopped after about fifteen feet in, and grabbed for his backpack to find the water bottle he'd brought.

As Renathan went for his water bottle, he realized that he could see, over his shoulder, Unseelie's tail as she tried to hide in the foliage. Aha, so he was right, she was watching him. It was kind of creepy to be stalked by such a venomous creature, but he had gotten so engrossed with the work he was to do earlier that she could have easily bitten him if she wanted to. So, though it was perhaps against his normal instincts, Renathan decided to just let her instead of trying to scare her off (and possibly getting bit in the process, after all, he had put this creature into his garden collection to eventually gather berries from her, so he might as well be civil!) and he grabbed his water bottle anyway to get a sip from it. After cooling down a bit by drinking water, Renathan closed up the bottle and put it back into his satchel again.

Time passed as Renathan went back to work. He was making decent progress, despite the difficulty. He did after all work all day, and it was not an easy job. When had he developed muscles that were the right sort for working? Renathan was quite amused that he wasn't too sore yet, either. He had about five feet to go, and he was determined to make quick work of it. Behind him, somewhere in the brush, Unseelie watched him, curious. She had inspected the debris on the ground earlier, and determined that he was doing this only on top of the rocky ground here. It looked purposeful, she decided. There were not many right angles in nature, but she was still learning about humans. She wasn't sure how it got there, and stopped thinking about it quite quickly.
Renathan finally finished working on clearing the path, and at the very least, there was now a path to the gazebo.

Renathan had actually spent quite a bit of time in his garden. He loved to sit in the gazebo and focus on the beauty of the land. It was hard to come by mostly untouched by technology wilderness in the City, after all. It felt like a lifetime ago in which he had been able to do this without too many distractions- a lifetime since he'd been back in his homeland. Even in his gardens he was distracted more often than not. Despite the fact that he spent so much time in the gardens, he hardly every spent any quality time with the plants creatures that he'd procured. He simply did not have the time nor the inclination most of the time anymore. However, he did figure that it would be remiss of him to go another winter without checking to see if his own King of Evergreen could produce those much desired berries. Renathan had already gotten home that evening from work and went ahead with the spell that would allow him to stay away from Auburn for some time. He didn't really trust her not to get at any hypothetical berries that may have had existed- provided that any did. He hadn't been doing a very careful job of working with this King of Evergreen- save for making sure that it would be fed well and such. However, he did have some amount of hope that he'd get a little lucky in the short amount of time that he had to work with the critter.
The russet mammalian steps through the gate and closes it behind him before walking down the well manicured stone path towards his gazebo. He'd not yet taught the creature even to come to its name, but he suspected he could get it's attention with some specific treats that it seemed to like well enough.

Renathan unbundled the pouch at his waist and set aside the packet of treats. He took one and tossed it out in front of the gazebo towards a small animal path in the woods. He suspected that he would see the King of Evergreen soon enough; since that was typically the path from which he saw it emerge more often than not. The russet mammalian did not have to wait long. In fact, the King of Evergreen had been waiting just beyond the treeline, watching curiously. Apparently the creature had been quite curious for quite a while. The beast barely gave any pause before dipping its head and moving out beyond the treeline to where he could be seen and so that it could get to the treat. Renathan watches it with curiosity as well. It had a peculiar way of moving that the russet mammalian was not familiar with at all.

The beast was an oddly built one. He'd not originally wanted one for his garden due to how humanlike it often seemed to be. He would prefer not to have anything that would make him think that someone, rather than something had been watching him from beyond the trees. The creature was quite a bit shorter than would be accidentally mistaken for most humanoids- and the gait wasn't quite right enough. However, sometimes those eyes felt a little too... Not quite human for him. Still, it was interesting to watch it sort of half-hobble out of the treeline and make a beeline for the treat. It then bent over it's head to look at the treat that he'd thrown out past the gazebo and then it gently bent low to grasp the little treat with one of its really strange looking knobby hands. Renathan watches with a small amount of uncanny valley sensation settling in his gut.
