The karzik looked between the two with curiosity now more than fear, even at the continued soft noises the two-legged one was making, and the crystal dragon wasn't exactly making the most fearful of noises either... Huh. Well, if they were just going to let it dig, just like that! The karzik buzzed to the wall, putting the gems down carefully below it, not quite thinking perhaps about the fact that they could be stolen, and then began to use his little claws to dig at the clump of dirt it was offered. The karzik was quite glad that it had this chance. Was the bipedal being helping it? Would they help it? After digging for a moment or two, almost as clumsily as one would expect a hummingbird to be, the karzik looked really deep into the bipedal thing's eyes. If the crystal dragon was not afraid of this bipedal thing, and was helping in, then maybe he should as well?

The little beast was more curious now than agitated and Abigail felt that was a step or two in the right direction. Sure enough, as soon as the shovel was moved out of the way the Karzik buzzed right over and began digging. He was a bit clumsy at digging, but he was doing his best! Abigail smiled at the Karzik and made an encouraging noise. "There you go. See we're not so bad! Maybe you'd even like to come with us hmmm?" she looked over the buzzing bird bug and smiled slightly. He was quite lovely with the gold and blue markings. Fellow looked over the Karzik and shifted to put more space between himself and the beast as it began digging as well. Abigail turned to the wall and dug with her claws for a moment, best not to pick up the shovel just yet, lest she spook the little bird. "There. Easy as pie right? If we work together we can find more gems in a shorter amount of time." she dug a clawful from the wall again and looked at the Karzik. "What do you think little one? Do you want to stick around with us?"13

The Karzik admittedly had no idea what the being was making noises on about, or even that they meant anything by it at all, but it did feel like from all the body languages of the group that it was not in any danger, and they would help it find more gems in the future. Satisfied, the karzik decided to stay with the group, and find more gems that way!

Abigail was amused by the Karzik and his interest in the wall. Maybe there was something hiding in this wall somewhere. They just had to sift through all this dirt.... Carefully Abigail reached out for her shovel and stabbed it into the dirt. The karzik only startled the first time, darting backward with a buzzing noise and the sound of scrambling claws. "Easy there little guy." Abigail took a shovelful of dirt and dumped it onto the ground, creating a small pile. Fellow ignored the two, digging at his section, reaching up to his elbow into the wall, grasping and pulling out the dirt into his own little pile. The karzik bobbed its head, eyeballing the shovel as Abigail dug the shovel into the wall of dirt. "See?" she said softly and put her attention back to the shovel. "Nothing to worry about. This is the way I dig, you see?" and again she dug into the wall, placing her foot against the shovel and lifting it slightly, pulling away another full shovel of dirt and dumping it into the pile beside her. "Nothing to worry about." she repeated, glancing back at the karzik to see if it was going to stick around still. 14 (4/5 1/5 14/20)

It came back slowly, chittering and buzzing as it watched her work the wall with her shovel. Perhaps this was just the way the two leg dug... even though it seemed to have claws to dig at the dirt, but chose to use this strange contraption stick thing instead. Although... it did seem to pull more dirt from the wall than claws could. It chittered, tiling its head and then made its decision to once again begin to dig at the wall, creeping forward and reaching out to awkwardly start digging into the dirt. 'There!" Abby nodded once and smiled at the Karzik. "You've got it." Fellow grunted, side eyeing the Karzik with annoyance. Oh goody, another creature, one who they didn't know, was going to excavate with them. Just what he wanted, more company... ah well, as long as the bird bug kept to his little hole and didn't disturb where Fellow was working, they'd get along just fine. The trio worked in silence for the better part of an hour before Abigail called it quits, wiping dirt from her fur and sweat from her paw pads. The mammalian was panting as she packed everything back up and collected the Karzik and its stash of goodies. "Let's go you two."15 (5/5 = 68 2/5 15/20)

It was a day or two before Abigail returned to the mines with Fellow in tow. Only Fellow. No karzik trailed after them this time. The duo made their way back into the mines, back to the little dirt wall spot and the three piles of dirt that they had been creating. THis time though, Abigail had something a little extra she had whipped up to help go through the dirt. As soon as they parked the cart she opened it up and pulled out a couple metal buckets. "Alright let's get this started. we're going to work this dirt first, all into the buckets so I can go through it." she said and bent down, using her shovel to quickly fill the two buckets. She went back to the cart and pulled out two more metal buckets, quickly filling those as well. The shovel bit through the piles of dirt with ease and soon all the piles were settled in the buckets. 16 (1/5 16/20)

From the cart behind them Abby brought forth two new buckets then the duo worked the dirt carefully dumping it into buckets. With the first bucket filled she felt a sense of excitement. They were going to try a new way of mining. "You ready Fellow?" Abby asked as she surveyed the full buckets and the empty buckets waiting to be put to use. There were several ways to use the tools they had brought and Fellow was getting antsy at not digging up new rocks and dirt. Abby began working with the first bucket. She pulled out two sifters, a crude tool she had made with fine chicken wire and some wood usually used for kennel repairs. The other was even finer but this one she set to the side. She pulled the first sifter out and filled it with the dirt and began shaking it, causing quite the noise as the dirt fell through the slim holes and to the ground. After several minutes of shaking her first round of dirt she was left with lots of different sized stones. 17 (2/5 17/20)

The stones in the first batch she dumped into a different, slightly more dented metal bucket. Then another shovelful of dirt into the sifter and she repeated the process. Leaving a soft looking pile of dirt and taking the rocks. She dumped them into the third bucket. Again and again, she repeated the process until the first bucket was empty. She swapped it out with the one Fellow was filling with dirt and rock. And she proceeded to work until that bucket was empty as well. Then she swapped them out and continued her work. It was starting to feel stuffy down here in the mines and a light sweat prickled under her fur and at her paw pads. Abby opened her mouth and panted as she worked, trying to cool down a little bit. It was a lot harder work than she remembered, and she hadn't even swung the pickaxe just yet! Maybe she was just out of shape, not used to working in the mines anymore. 18 (3/5 18/20)

She wiped the sweat from her paw pads again, running it down her fur and streaking dirt down her pastel fur. Then she lifted the sifter and shook it again, quickly emptying it of the dirt and dumping the rocks into the dented bucket. "See Fellow? Rocks to go through when we find water. Maybe if we wash some of these up they will turn out to be valuable!" she loaded up the sifter again as Fellow snorted and turned to the wall, digging into it with green claws. Whatever Abigail wanted to do... he eyed her from his working area and snorted softly. She was doing something he had never seen before, working with the dirt as she did. It meant more work but... maybe some of the rocks she was setting aside would turn out to be valuable, he couldn't smell them from where he was, not over the scent of the mineral in the wall. So tempting. 19

So Fellow worked hard at his spot, elongating his hole and searching the whole wall. There was something here, he could smell it, sense it in his own way. So he focused on his work and Abigail focused on hers. Shaking, sifting and once in awhile coughing. Her mouth was starting to dry and her nose felt caked with dirt. She was probably going to need a long shower after this trek into the mines. Her fur was dulling in color, a muddy pastel now. Dirt particles floated through the air and she coughed yet again, rubbing her arm across her face to clear her eyes. Soon the buckets were empty of dirt and she had one full of rocks and large dirt clods that were too big to be sifted through the fine chicken wire. She began shoveling Fellow's dirt piles into buckets and soon caught up with his work. She quickly sifted through the dirt and placed a bucket down under the place Fellow was digging, to catch the dirt. 20 (5/5 = 69 20/20 = 194)

Fellow eyed the bucket and seemed to let out a long-suffering sigh. Then made sure that his clawed out dirt fell into the bucket. It was clear what she wanted him to do and he would comply with what she wished. "Thanks Fellow." she reached down to scratch claws over his hard green scales, leaving trails through the dirt that had settled on his gem like body. Abigail picked up her shovel and dug it into the wall with ease, pulling dirt away and dumping it into the bucket. It only took a few stabs at the wall to fill the first bucket and then she filled the second bucket. Abigail paused in her digging to sift the two buckets of dirt she had created. "We need to move on soon Fellow, we've almost filled all the buckets." she eyed the one bucket full of rocks and the second one she was filling while sifting. 21 (1/5 1/20)

It didn't take too much longer to finish the bucket work. Soon she had two buckets of rocks and large dirt clods and four buckets full of soil and dirt that had been sifted through. She still wanted to look through it, who knew what could be hiding in those piles? Fellow stopped digging and watched Abigail as she worked. The mammalian had her mouth slightly open, panting as she lifted heavy bucket after heavy bucket into the cart they had trundled down into the depths. She had wanted him to stop digging and he had. Not sure what to do now he eyed the wall, sniffing it. He would have to lead them back to this spot again, he could still sense something deep within, pulsing and humming with energy that he could never quite describe. There was a loud snapping noise as the cart was closed up and Abigail took up the handles. "Alright Fellow. Time to find water." 22 (2/5 2/20)
