Renathan chuckled again, nodding along with her explanation. "Interesting. On one hand, it would be quite neat to study sentience in labs-made creatures, but on the other hand, I can't imagine actually... Having a lot of them? I feel a bit odd about it despite my curiosity." Renathan thought about this kind of thing alot, he did have a few creatures that were incredibly clever, and some even as much as a humanoid, but Renathan was quite uncertain about anything but giving them the best life possible, not that it was easy.
Renathan nodded to her. "We can if you would like! I wouldn't mind it at all." He was glad that he may be able to help, indeed. "Oh, that sounds interesting!" Renathan did know that Lazare liked to watch different things, so he was sure that he would like that. "One of each..." He said quietly, that made a lot of sense. He hadn't really thought much about it at all.
Renathan shook his head. "You always help me so much, and I like to help you too!" He said. Plus, he could just sell the non-pure ones himself, and that wouldn't be a bother at all. "I mean, I can't really use them anyway." It was true, he had swallowed a node, and was quite capped. "No hard feelings! Of course, the pit is the pit, after all. We all know what we are getting into." That was also true. Lazare, however, was not worried about this at all, and instead fought to get comfortable in his arms, finally feeling quite a bit comfortable.

"I'm a little leery of sentience that isn't humanoid as well, but if it means being a good companion, well, I don't see us as owners for them, more like companions or friends even. Acquaintances? I'm not sure, but not owners," she offered with a little smile on her face. She knew it was a thin line to walk on when it came to the animals and creatures of the Labs, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to try to walk that line as best as she could. After all, she did have pretty good balance.
Jack managed a laugh and a nod, "Well, male Orbaru have to come from somewhere if someone's never bred them before, no sense in not putting them in there you know?" Laughter turned to a chuckle and she shook her head, "I just went there and almost bought out some of their stock in things, I actually did buy up all of a couple of pocketpets. I just like to have them I guess, they make for interesting things around the house."
Her face turned down into a little frown, "Yeah but I still need seven of them, that's a lot and you could probably sell them for quite a bit if you wanted to. Please let me pay you somehow?" She turned her eyes toward him, pleading silently. She knew it was probably in vain, but hey, she could at least try right? "I'm excited about the tournament, I just need to finish up Kro's training in the Gym."

Renathan agrees at that whole-heartedly. "You put ideas into words really well. I hadn't really thought of it that way? Also, I'd hate to know what would happen to these poor individuals if people like us weren't around... Some people don't treat labs-creatures well at all." Regardless of their sentience, that is. "I have seen a whole lot of good in the Labs, and a whole lot of bad." He hadn't even been there as long as some others had been either.
The mammalian laughed, at that. "You are totally right! I wonder where the shopkeep gets their supply from? I am sure Lazare would love to play with them, if he got the chance." Lazare really enjoyed playing with literally anything, that included dangerous, clawed creatures sometimes... Orbaru could be so oblivious. "Pocketpets are adorable, though sometimes I wish I could train them. We have a stray cat pocketpet that stays around the farm. She always looks gravid, but I can never find any kittens." He shrugged, pocketpets were a weird bunch, and really adorable. "I make sure she keeps safe and fed, but every time the door is open she just zooms right out."
Renathan chuckled. "I'll undoubtedly find some other types of crystals, and I'll just sell them if they aren't pure. That way I get a bit of extra income, and you still get to have your magic." He of course wasn't sure of her reason for wanting magic, but he could imagine anyone wanting to feel safe when they walk by themselves. Magic could certainly do that, for you. Still, the mammalian winks at her as they walked along, gently petting Lazare's fuzzy head. "Oh, you are doing gym training too? We are as well, we must be just missing each-other as we go in!" Renathan was a little glad that Jack hadn't seen him; he was often just as sweaty and smelly as the equillion when they got done with the training days. "Good luck with it, it is such hard work!"

He was right, there was a lot of good, like the two of them, but then there was a lot of bad. She had experienced both as well, but you just had to keep going and not get too discouraged about people as time went on. It was the only way to keep your sanity sometimes, it seemed. Jack smiled at him and nudged his arm a little to keep his spirits up. "I'm betting Sara gets her supply straight from the Labs, though I don't see how people are still making anything in there..." she trailed off a little, saddened by the thought. The Labs weren't producing like they used to, but that was fine because some others had stepped up and made it manageable for those who had stayed in the Labs for this long to function. "Never any kittens? That's so odd!" came the exclamation with a frown. That couldn't be healthy.
Jack sighed and threw up her arms, "I guess! Fine! If you insist!" There was a smile on her face though as she said it, eyes sparkling as she looked over at him. She had helped him out quite a bit in return she supposed, though she cuddled the little Orbaru plushie in her arms for a moment before Scorch came down to inspect it. She was still a little tired, but that didn't mean she had to go back into her amulet just yet, right? "We must be! We've been working on his resistance," Jack told him as they finally reached the shops. She smiled and looked around, "Well, where do you want to go looking first? I do need to pick up some stuff in Hook, Line, 'n Sinker, and if you're wanting some things from Nature's Bounty we can do all that too if you'd like."

Renathan had been lucky not to actually see anyone harming a creature in front of his face, but he had seen the aftereffects... Often. Renathan was worried about that a lot. He tried to keep his mind on the good, and on protecting his own animals from anything that might be too harmful. He was ultra careful, all the time, perhaps too careful sometimes. "Oh, that is... Wait, I haven't really seen anything going on around the Labs in a long time..." Renathan thought about that curiously. "I have been curious about it, ever since it was brought to my attention." He often met and talked to people that wanted to get started in the gemstone trade, needed things gotten from shops and were either house-ridden or too busy, and sometimes even to train their creatures. Recently, he'd sort of accidentally helped an individual get into the magic scene, and that was when it had been brought to his attention. He'd noticed it before, but never really questioned it.
It was odd.
He shook his head. "Certainly odd; a lot like the orbaru- but I bet the pocketpet was probably made that way, or maybe she's just had a lot of kittens before and is showing it?" He'd never seen another just like here before though. Lazare was 'chewing' on (mostly licking) Renathan's arm, but Renathan couldn't feel it.
Renathan grinned widely. He managed to convince her, at least for now! He was sure that she would probably insist again whenever he came back for the first time, but at least he would try. He glanced into her face and then felt heat spread across his cheeks again. He liked to make her happy. "Oh, that is a good thing to train! We've been working on most things a bit at a time, mostly the reflexes." He knew that it would be tantamount for him to move first, after all.
"Sure, that sounds like a good idea to me. We can go to the Hook, Line, n' Sinker first. I think you told me about it a long while back?" He was quite happy, today was a good day!

Jack chuckled and nodded, "Reflexes are the best to train I feel, but there are always tricks to make them better I suppose. Kro and I worked on those for awhile a long time ago, so he's quicker than any other Thundergug." Her voice had pride in it and her back straightened a little when she spoke, proving just how proud she was in her Thundergug. She'd done a lot of Gym training with a couple of Sarane, and while proud, it wasn't to this point with those two. "Resistance is what he's lacking other than his reflexes, so we figured we would work on that and he would be okay," she finished with a smile and a nod.
"If you're sure! Then we can go to Nature's Bounty and I can help you out with items to pick up. Honestly I should pick up more Pachee berries while we're there... I'm running low since the Breeding Center re-opened," Jack mused, tapping her chin a little as Scorch rolled around her arm like a bracelet. She was getting bored, but that didn't mean much either, and she wasn't going to use her magic unless Jack said something to her at the moment. Jack found the store and motioned for Renathan to follow her, then opened the store to usher him inside.

Renathan nodded as she spoke. "Wow, that is amazing. I never would have thought to work on that kind of thing with a thundergug!" Renathan was quite amazed that a creature like that could be any sort of nimble. However, he certainly could see the good that would occur when it came to training such a thing. Thundergugs were already powerhouses, and powerhouses that were fast were absolutely terrifying. "Woah, I would have thought that thundergug couldn't get much more defensive, with that thick hide!" Renathan said, with a curious expression beneath the mask. "Kro is such a big guy, I am sure you will do awesome in the tournament!" He was glad for that!
"Sure!" He was quite glad about that, he really had no idea what to pick up for the garden, after all. Lazare was scrambling in his arms now, so he carefully moved the creature to his other arm, gently petting him and being quite worried about how comfortable he was. Perhaps he should have brought his backpack, so that the creature could ride in it instead? "Ah, I didn't know it was there that sold the berries, do they have them for pachee?" He was quite a bit surprised, but it was a good thing definitely!

Jack laughed as she walked into the store and started to look around a little, "Oh yeah, they're not very dexterous as it is, so you work on it and then make them better, you know? Not a lot goes through them, but what does needs to be negated a bit more if we're going to win." Her eyes sparkled as she looked over at Renathan with a smile on her face, teasing him. She knew he had as good of a chance as she did to win the tournament, she knew he poured his heart and soul into his animals, just as she did. It was going to be a tough competition.
She picked out a few lures and hooks, eyed the nets for a moment before shaking her head a little and then went up to the counter to pay. "Yes, they have them for Pachee and Orbaru, and they also have the garden items you'll need for your garden. It'll be fine, we'll get you set up. How's your Pachee doing anyway?" came the question, as she had given him one of the Pachee kits she had bred not long before. It was nice he wanted to start with them just a bit, if only a bit, because she loved the species more than she probably should at the moment. After collecting the bag the shopkeeper handed her, she started to explain the berries to Renathan, "There's berries that make the male coat pass down, since that's rare, there's berries that guarantee a female in the breeding, because they're rare as well, and then there's berries that guarantee at least two kits from the breeding. Usually they just have one of course, but that helps. Then if you feed them a magical berry from the gardens, their coats have a better chance of mutating, but those berries are rare you know."

Renathan was sure that it was certainly a good thing that she had worked on that with the thundergug. "I am surprised that there is anything that could get through a full-grown thundergug! Then again, this will be my first non-sarane tournament." Renathan nodded at that. "Good luck to you and Kro! I am sure that you two are in with a great chance!" He meant it too.
Renathan followed her in, curious about the shop. He'd never been here before! He followed after her, looking at all of the bits and bobs as things were going on and she made her selection. The shopkeep was interesting to him; she looked like a ssashirk (or at least he figured she was female) but he'd never seen one that look quite like her. He'd met plenty of ssashirk out in the desert, and most of them didn't look anything like her. He was always curious, but did not stare. "Mesquite is doing fine! Thank you so much for him, he's a joy to have in the garden." His curious and somewhat excitable personality was really nice, he always ran up to Renathan looking for treats whenever he first got there during the day. "Most of my other creatures aren't quite as amicable yet, but he sticks right to me when I get there." Renathan was glad that he got a chance to work with the creature. "Oh, that is neat. I didn't know that females were more rare! Thank you for going over that for me." He smiled beneath the mask, curiously peering over at the lures and hooks she had bought. Fishing was still a bit foreign to him but he had at least heard about it before.

"Oh wow, I guess that would be true, the Labs hasn't run a non-Sarane tournament in a long time!" Jack exclaimed, opening the door and walking through so they could get to Nature's Bounty, "Thank you, and good luck to you as well! Kro actually won a tournament once, a tag-team tournament with Ashe's Pliathor. They pretty much smashed their way through..." A little sheepish about that, it nevertheless meant they had won, and she had been given champion status because of that. Soon she was hoping to enter something other than Kro into a tournament, she just wasn't sure what to enter into a tournament, it all depended on what they were going to run after this one, it seemed.
"I'm glad he's doing well then!" she told him happily as she wandered down the street toward the next shop. Scorch had curled around her neck a little to see what she was going to do with things, tired and bored, but still a little curious as to what was going on, she wasn't going into her amulet yet for awhile. Jack caught Renathan peering at the items she had bought, and she smiled at him, "Have you ever fished before?"

Renathan nodded quietly. "Sarane tourneys were already running by the time I got here." He mentioned, and then looked around, quite amazed by the shop! He waved to the shopkeeper, and then began looking over the shelves from where they stood. "Oh, I heard about that before... Wasn't the pliathor a silver?" Pliathors were definitely scary, and so were thundergugs. Along with the wiurn, those are the best battle creatures ever, in his opinion. He was sure that in a tag-team tourney, any kind of duo of those would win for sure. "What are the fish used for, again?" The idea of using a fish in a garden was a bit odd to him.
"Thank you!" He said, smiling. Renathan struggled for a moment to keep Lazare from trying to play with anything shiny, but he was able to keep him under his arm. "I have actually never fished before." He admitted, rubbing the back of his head a bit. "In my homeland, the fish have always been really high in metals, and even eating one causes serious illness. We don't eat things from the water." He nodded. "I've heard that the ones here don't have that problem."

"Oh fair enough, they'd stopped running anything else when those were going it seemed. Hopefully that'll change now though," she nodded, looking around the new store with a smile on her face, "Alaska's a Quicksilver, yes. She's quicker so she got most hits in, but Kro held his own. They fought each other once as well, did not end well for poor Kro." A wince crossed over her face as she thought about that fight and then shook her head. Poor Kro... "Fish can be used to either feed a Lotine if you're wanting to breed for Lola, or you can use it as fertilizer for some of your plants. It makes them grow better when they decompose. Honestly? I got one of each of these items, the fish and water and pellets, and my land has never been more productive!" Jack told him, pointing to each of the items as they looked.
Jack smiled at him and nudged his arm a little in a small hug as Scorch finally drifted off to sleep around her neck. Usually she was a bit more curious than this, but she was tired it seemed. "Hmm, I know there are some in the ocean that are high in metals, those are delicacies, but they don't hurt you in small amounts. I'll have to make you fish sometime and teach you how to fish! It's lots of fun and you can bond with your Draconic as you fish as well. Do you have any of your own?" she asked, tilting her head as she reached out to pat Lazare on the head a little bit.

Renathan thought about that, and hadn't really been considering that before? "That makes a lot of sense, Sarane are hard to keep dominant." None of his were, anymore, and he figured that none of them were, since it stopped suddenly for some reason. "Quicksilver..." He said nodding. He hadn't ever actually seen a pliathor, so he only had a small amount of knowledge about them; the pamphlets with the information about them. "I believe it, pliathor are terrifying." He said. He'd seen an image of one before; big ole teeth and huge serpentine body! "Lotine- I don't think I've seen one before." However, plant fertilizer made sense and all! "I'll keep that in mind! I'm planning on working mine more, soon." That was the idea, anyway! He happily looked at all of the items curiously. "What is a lomite?" He asked, seeing a strange bottle on a shelf not too far away as he looked around.
Renathan did certainly think that Lazare was cute, but he was a bit of a mess right now! Renathan blinked, and suddenly the strange creature had a cupcake in his paws and was absolutely chowing down. Renathan laughed, knowing that the creature had done this a lot more. "I would like that!" He said, smiling. "I am sure Mintaka would love it..." He realized for a moment that he hadn't told her about Mintaka. "Mintaka is my bonded, he's a lashak, but not really the regular lashak color... Or intelligence." That was for sure, sometimes Mintaka made him feel a little dumb.

She nodded, "I had a two headed Pliathor but ended up giving it to Ashe. I still have one, but not the original that I got from the Labs, it's one of his offspring. They're not very nice, but it's fun to play with him sometimes." She gave a little chuckle at that, she probably sounded like she was crazy for wanting a Pliathor with two heads, but hey, to each their own and she was certainly one of her own at this point. "Lotine are beautiful, I think you would like them, and if you breed them you basically pluck a berry from their head and you get a Lola from them. Eventually you can give a Lola a potion to make them into Lotine themselves, I've done it a few times already," Jack told him with a nod, "Oh, uh, lomites infest Lotine, keep those away. I really don't know why they still sell those..."
While Lazare was eating his cupcake, Scorch woke up and drifted over to him, feeling like mist to anyone who touched her, or who she touched, to inspect it and see what the big fuss was about, not like she could manipulate it in any way. "Oh you're bonded? So am I! To a Lashak as well, and true to form, she's smarter, a little smaller, and definitely has her mother's coloring. She's lovely, though I do wish she had a special breath like so many others do..." Jack drifted off, thinking of Ember. She loved her Draconic, but she wished she could do more with her at the moment.

Two headed? Renathan couldn't imagine training a two-headed creature. The only ones that weren't custom that were like that, of course, were hydra ghaenelt. What a strange thing! "Interesting, I can't even imagine that! How do you keep from being eaten by one head or the other?" Renathan didn't think she sounded crazy, but he was quite amazed. She was so good at everything, he couldn't possibly do some of the things she did! Also, he couldn't really say anything. He had a fire-breathing balgor, several sarane that were on-fire, and a venomous pure equillion, after all. "That is amazing, and sounds so strange. I'll have to see one, someday." Sometimes the Labs made a basic version of a creature. Perhaps he could find one of those at some point? "Oh, that isn't good. It is odd that they sell those..." He tilted his head, curiously.
Renathan chuckled at Lazare, and the little sprite. It appeared that the random poof of the cupcake was just as surprising to others as it had been to him the first time. Renathan was sure that he was somehow stealing them from somewhere, but he had no idea where. "Oh, wow! That is a big coincidence." He was actually a bit surprised, Lashak were certainly beautiful, but the chances of one being smaller and smarter was quite odd. "I wonder if they are the same mix of heritage? Mintaka is orange, and green."
