He seemed to be regaining a bit of his puppy confidence now that the mean bird was gone, Flare noted. Curiously, he took Percy out of the garden adn down the path to where there was a little creek through the properties. Looking into it, the tiny 'pond' (heck, its hardly a pond, more of a puddle really) and saw some fish flowing around in it. Just tiny things, like minnows. Desert minnows were more of decoration then eating, because if any were found and caught, they could go on a sill in a bowl of water. But most got boiled out because of the choice of which window to put them in. The puppy paused at the swishing motion of how the fish moved, but he didn't seem scared. A few pebbled splashed into the pond, and the minnows darted away. Percy didn't seem to make any movmeents. Flare tried to mime the screech of a bird. The ears perked and he seemed to tense up, looking wildly about for the bird, growling. Well, that made a lot more sense then hiding behind him. "Good Percy. Your master will be pleased." he told the puppy, fishing out a few pieces of meat treats. -end accept noise, scary sights- 140 10.20

As you work in the garden, you notice a small creature wriggling in a beautiful fruit hanging off a nearby plant. Upon closer inspection, you see that it is a disgusting slimy worm-like creature. Fearing for your plants, you take an even closer look to discover that all of the fruit in your garden is riddled with holes - there is indeed a worm infestation here. Not only will you have to remove all the current harvest from your garden, but your pets seem dissapointed...

with the episode of the demonic birds behind them, Flare seemed a bit more comfortable with giving Percy some freedom inside the garden. Getting past the initial fear stage would help his owner with teaching the pup to be a good fishing companion. He thought about introducing Grendel and Shabh but the fact ove only being temporary would make everyone sad, and radiate out onto himself. Sharing his emotional specturm with Shabh and the same way didn’t suit him, but the more mature acting rakai tried not to be too excitable. Percy on the ohter hand, had fun with getting in all the faces of his garden creatures. He wasn’t nearly as afraid now, but still shyed a little with being near something with remotely looking like wings. Time would help that. However when something shot past him rihgt into the bushes, the pup froze. Huh... maybe that would be next. -start accept sudden movements- 141 x.20

The sudden movements of wings and such... maybe it could be replicated in something less threatening. Something... fun. He had to think on that. And when he chose to be deep in thought, the pacing started. More in tune with his head then with his feet, the creatures of the garden scurried out of his way as the humanish paced the inner area of the garden. Percy watching his movements, or moreso, his tail, swishing the falling leaves back and forth as he walked. Oooh, shiny distracting object. He crouched playfully, butt wiggling in the air, and pounced. The tail moved just as he came to land, and a landing noise came as he took a step away. Shaking off the impact, the puppy started to creep after Flare's tail again. {OWCH} He didn't espect to be ambushed from behind. Dragging his tail out of the grip of a playfully chewing pup. He rolled over from chewing on the big thick bright object and barked. Do again! Bright objects could work, since he seemed to like Flare's tail. 142 x.20

Percy liked this game. Pounce on tail, and chase it too. The tail was fun to chew on, nice and thick. Tasted like dirt sometimes. but it did drag around in the dirt. 'What am I, some sort of chameleon who carries their tail curled up or raised?' The idea of the bright object gave him some ideas. The leaves falling in the garden, an early start to the season of falling leaves, were crunchy and brightly colored. Flitting around when the pup distracted himself, the humanish grabbed up small handfuls of leaves and a stick, and a small amount of leftover wire from his latest readjustment on the bonsai. It made a 'feathery' duster of sort, one that didn't use feathers, and made strange shifty noises. He turned around to crouch and drift the duster back and forth on the ground. WIthout warning, out came Percy from the brush, a few burs hanging off his shoulder scales and trying to catch and pounce on the strange bright thingy with funny noises. 143 x.20

He started barking at the drifty dustery leaf thing, bouncing back and forth with all the energy of a young animal. If he had any prehensile properties of his tail (which far as he knew, did not), Flare would have more ways of playing with the duster object. He had to keep it out of Percy's flailing paws reach, waving it in circles while the hunter relentlessly chased adn barked and ran off excess energy. Amazing. He could see Shabh having this much energy, but he had a whole garden and the plot next to it for running off his energies; the creatures of the garden either ignored him, ran from him or tried to spook him off, which didn't work so well now. Around and around they went, for what felt like a long time. Finally, he could see Percy's energy seeming to taper off as he lagged behind, still trying to catch the dustery thing that crackled and shifted like above his head. His breathing was getting harsher, more labored as he tired. Finally, the little rakai seemed to trail away from the duster and flopped in the shade of a tree, panting heavily. His green eyes looked very happy. And tired. Experimentally, he stepped over, and waved the duster within reach of Percy. The pup just laid there and panted. Was he ignoring it? It was a sudden movement. 144 x.20

{Very good.} Flare found the capsule treats that Shabh liked and tossed him a pair. The little berry sized treats landed beside Percy. He lapped them up, tail thumping on the ground. The pup could use some water. With the warden's help, he found the fresh water that was available in the area (outside the fence) and filled up a scrubbed out metal bowl. The bowl had little markings of roses and thorns around the edges, part of the set he'd picked up for Shabh; this was his food dish but could be cleaned before meal. The little rakai looked up at him, his tail thumping. The duster came out again and lazily drifted past him. The tail thumped, but he made no move to reach it. He was TIRED. And the tailed human wanted to play more? How did he have so much ENERGY?! {Very good.} Flare put down the water bowl within reach and gave him another treat. The only thing Percy actually got up for was the water, as he gulped down the water in loud lapping and messy. So good to have a garden where water just absorbs in. When he was finished, the pup just flopped down again, panting. It helped, but he was still tired. He didn't react at all to the duster of leaves flitting in and out of the edges of his vision, just yawning a bit. A stick, one of Shabh's toys he didn't play with so often, even the dropping of some acorns didn't seem to phase him. His master would be proud, assumingly. Letting his charge rest a bit more, Flare finally picked him up and found the scrap of paper of address of where the master mentioned to find them. -end sudden movements- 145 x.20

"No, all I want to do is let my dogs run in the garden. One day." he tried to explain this. Again. The warden's nimble fingered hand taps a pencil against his clipboard. He'd noted that new rakai was there yesterday, and no longer today. "So where'd that other dog go?" he asked, purely trying to get on the kid's nerves by extending this longer then normal. The dragon man with the plan was a lot more fun to tease. "I helped someone calm him down from being afraid of everything scary. Not mine." tap tap tap went the pencil. "Sorry, but you already have a non-plant living here." the warden pointed his pencil at the baakir, whose head popped out of the thorn bush it was slowly making its way through. "If you want to let the pups run here, gotta get the necky thingy out." He puts his clipboard and other hand up in defense. "If I let one guy or gal add more then normal, even temporarily, my job's on the line. 'sides, you live close, yah? Just move him on the other side of the fence, let me see that, and you can turn your garden into a dog run for your TWO dogs." 146 x.20

'makes it sound like having a dog is a bad thing.' he thought to himself, once the warden took his leave. How to move the baakir without it bolting off would be the tough part, especially with no help from Shabh or something else bigger, who would be handy. The baakir was getting taller, but not quite an adult yet. It stood there, chewing on a thorning branch without a care in the world, watching him. Occasionally its ears flicked forward and caught noise, but otherwise were relaxed beside the head but not against it. Hm. Coaxing it to come might be hard, but doable. Come close enough tht he could toss a loop around its neck and lead it carefully to the other side and over the plot separation fence. What did baakir eat again? Herbivores, so basically any plant. The adults liked stuff from the tops of trees. Too bad it wasn't spring because tender leaves might be tasty. 147 x.20

The harvest season full into swing, the leaves have changed color dramatically during the month. For Flare, it meant a lot of picking. If his fruits were in bloom. However, a string of several days of rain brought out all the worms. Desperate to avoid the rain, they ate into any growing fruits and veg he had on the vines and branches, and lost everything. So much for a bountiful harvest. The compost box had so much holey fruit and veg inside, he had to cover it with a layer of soil to help cultivate the worms. If they were going to eat his bounty, they better make use of bettering the soil. Worm compost is a good fertilizer, and would be better for next year. Grendel trotted around at his heels sometimes, trying to snap at the dangling fruits, but one bite found she didn't like them at all. She froze up when something darted out of the bushes though, a few of those rampant pachee, chasing down a lizard in hot pursuit. -start accept sudden movements- 148 x.20

Like Percy, but somewhat not, the young houlou had a prey drive. She watched the pachee chase down the lizard for a moment or to, and turned back to coming after her busy master. His tail swishing back and forth as he walked, disturbing the leave floor. Crouching on the ground, the hound wiggled her butt in the air, and pounced happily on his tail. Only for it to escape from her paws and her teeth. Again! She went after the tail. {Ouch} glancing back, he saw the little pup clamped onto his tail, chewing on it like it was a sausage. Flare did not care for his tail becomign a target, but he did notice when she froze up and distracted. It was less of a fear, more of a distraction. WHere was that duster. He should teach her that too. Shabh likely would play with it too. Who knew. 149 x.20

There's a difference between a young rakai and a young houlou in terms of their jaw strength. When the little rakai had bitten into his tail, trying to get a grip on it, his mouth was much too small to get around it. With some age to her now, Grendel chewed playfully on the long meaty length of tail that was bright and colorful. Tastes like dirt! She liked dirt. Digging in dirt is fun. Where wsa that duster. At this rate, the humanish worried his tail would be chewed off and not grow back. He wasn't a lizard after all. Small objects to call and distract her. Aha, there it was, hanging out on his workbench. He had to walk over there with her attached to his tail. Dragging around in the dirt and getting it all up in her fur. The good thing about scales is rinsing off made him clean easily. For her, this would be a scrub. Something flashed above her head as her master walked. Oooh, what was that? 150 x.20

The puppy tilted her head into his rough hand, relishing the touch with a happy whine. 152 -end sudden movements- 10/21 x.20

Once she'd rested, Grendel 's attention span didn't waste time being distracted again on something spinning on past her as it raced away. The pachee had the lizard on the run for its life, even though they were mouthless and couldn't really harm it. More of pounding on it or trying to catch it. There must be some cat in those pollen cats. "Grendel" Flare responded, seeking to pull her attention back on him, a small square of jerky in his hand. He'd gone out to buy some galabex and murp jerky for some other choices of treats. Capsules are good and all, but kind of hard on the teeth. She presently busied herself with crouching on her lower body, watching the bush rattle, about to pounch. "Grendel" he made a sharp loud sound, like an upwards whistle. Something he couldnt' do previously. Briefly she looked back at him. "Good girl." Showing her he had a treat in hand, the houlou abandoned the bush so she could recieve her treat. And that he had the duster in hand again. 153 x.20
