Whisper was really enjoying the food- it was a lot different than the stuff she normally got to eat! She almost always had the same food every time- usually dusted in some kind of powder. It was yicky, but she was used to it. She wasn't used to having food with juices like this, and for some reason she sort of felt like maybe this was what food was supposed to be for her- juicy and hot. She had managed, with a lot of difficulty to kill and eat a field mouse a few weeks ago- it was just like this.
Morgan of course did not know it, but just the fact that she could remember that would have been promising that the diet that they had so carefully been sure to provide for her was doing the work they had hoped.
Morgan shoved the last of the buns in their mouth (savoring the taste), and then stood up.

They weren't sure how to properly thank the invisible... Or nonexistant cooks for having done this, so they simply gave an off nod to the direction of the 'across the counter', and went ahead to clean up their little place. After getting all of the items into one spot, they simply... Disappeared. That probably would have scared most folks. As for Morgan, it wasn't that bad. "W-well, that was... Different." They mumbled. Still, they scooped Whisper up now that she was done eating, and put her in their pocket. "You've been r-really good today, Whisper." Morgan said to her. They'd have to come up with an actual training regimen for her next month, this month they had sort of just meandered around and done very little.
However, they intended to go investigate this noise now! The human excitedly ducked down beneath the thick curtain, and moved out into the 'street'.

The street was basically the same as it had been before. There were flat stones at Morgan's feet, and faded autumn leaves dappling the shadows and light against the ground from above them. The buildings were all painted a sort of brown-red, though perhaps mostly red. It was beautiful, in a rustic sort of way. Everything felt like it was made of wood, earth, stone, and clay. The air had a crisp and cool feeling to it. The whole place felt hardly out of place in nature. However, there were facets of what could have been civilization here and there. It was mostly in the metallic decorations- most of them appearing to be bronze or brass. Morgan looked back towards the gate that they had walked in through, and then turned to look down the street again.
That was when they saw it- it was a bright display, though ultimately it made little sense at first.

What is that sound...? You hear something swishing, swishing, like the rustle of hay - when you try to look around for the source, you cannot find anything. Those are undoubtedly footsteps, though, getting closer and closer, until-- a tap on your shoulder! You jerk around, hoping to catch the culprit, and see the flash of a scarecrow-face at your shoulder. The steps retreat in a hurry. With your heart still racing, you look to your pet - but they've been taken!
[Your pet is lost! It cannot be roleplayed for the next 5 posts while you find it!]

It always seemed like the mansion had it out for them. Though they spent a lot of time here, and tried to do everything right, sometimes stuff happened. A lot of times, said 'stuff' was really, really annoying. Sometimes, it was quite dangerous. This time, was one of those 'dangerous, why the heck' kind of times that made Morgan regret even trying. They were on a roll, weren't they? Their eyes had focused on what appeared to be a large Paper-Mache dragon in fleetingly beautiful colors, shimmering brightly and twisting like some sort of over the top representation of a tat-lung. It was so beautiful in fact that it nearly took their breath away- but Morgan did not Ever get to enjoy anything for longer than a second or two. It always felt like something came along to ruin that, and in this situation, it certainly did. Could they not have anything nice?

It wasn't at all surprising that Morgan had dropped their guard, and once again paid for it, looking back. As the human was watching the display before them (a dragon dance- they'd read about them- didn't they have them in small desert tribes when they returned home to their cities after water travels?) they did not quite notice the sounds of footsteps. Or perhaps it was that they heard the phantom footsteps of the invisible, perhaps nonexistent individuals that would be beneath the facade of a dragon- so the sound of footsteps behind them blended in due to the soft rocks of the ground, and they didn't even really think about it much.
But still, they came. Regardless of whether or not Morgan was prepared, they did, sneaking up on them with a goodly amount of speed, and catching them completely off guard. Perhaps they should have done something different.

Morgan's mind was blissfully empty for exactly two seconds, and then all heck broke loose. The human was anything if not on edge most of the time, and the one second that they didn't have their hackles raised, they suddenly heard an explosion of footsteps behind them. The noise sent the hair on the back of their neck to raising, but they didn't have enough time to really react. It was a rare instance in which they did not have said hackles raised, or didn't have enough time even then to react. However, their senses failed them, only setting them to panic, and before they could even think- they felt something touch their shoulder.
They turned, eyes not quite having the chance to focus on the thing in front of their face before it could run off. What was it? Morgan swallows, but it seemed gone. The danger felt like it had left...

However, the human felt like something was... Off. Missing, perhaps. Did they just get pick-pocketed? Logically, nothing should have been able to get into their pockets. Only Morgan could use their pockets, after all. Anyone else would find them entirely inaccessible. However, the mansion did not always do the same things that people did, and it did not always follow the rules that were set aside by others, either. The human pats around on their coat with eyes squinted in consternation- and suddenly, they realize it. Neatly dropping their hands to their sides, the human turned around, searching for whatever the thing was that had passed them.
Whatever it was- it had stolen Whisper, of all things.
This could be the mansion getting onto them for doing what they thought it wanted them to do in the first place, or it could be someone with sticky fingers getting a hold of a rare creature.

Either way, Morgan was PANICKED. Where were they going to be able to find her? The human searched around, pushing past the huge and beautiful paper mache dragon (much to the annoyance of the pseudo-people that were making the illusion, the human could hear them murmuring in annoyance) and searching high and low for any physical representation of a person. That was who it had to be, correct? A Person? It was the only real thing that made any amount of sense. "Whisper, WHISPER!" They called out. It was panic that had set in now, but later on it would be annoyance. This was a huge waste of time when it came to Whisper's growth, and it almost wasn't worth it.
"Whisper!" They called again. This time, they had an idea. The human raises the whistle to their lips, and gives the command for her to come to them.

Morgan was incredibly glad that they had trained her the basics. For a moment or two, the panic continued. Soon enough, though, Morgan could hear loud but tiny shrieking. It was coming closer. Morgan was able to pinpoint the direction of the sound, which had frightened them at first. Was she being hurt? Surely a humanoid wouldn't purposefully hurt a rare creature like her! That made them absolutely irate, and they were able to follow the sounds. Luckily for them, Whisper had already escaped her would-be thief, and she was also running towards Morgan. She had been taught to come on command, and the command had been given. She had fought tooth and nail to get away from her 'attacker', but it seemed like after it got some distance away, the strange thing had stopped moving... Morgan covered the distance faster than Whisper though. "What happened t-to you, huh?" Morgan asks her.

The panic was still there, under the surface, as Morgan bent down to pick her up and look her over. She seemed unhurt, with no damage to her physically. She seemed more confident now that she was back around Morgan. Something about that made Morgan feel pleased- perhaps she was starting to get used to being around them. It was a far cry change from the times that she spent fearing them and hiding from them the entire time Morgan had brought her out. That was good, at least. They would hopefully continue to make progress in the future. "Well, I'm certainly glad y-you are back. What was that, anyway?" Morgan was intending to get out of the mansion for the month. Usually when the place threw them some corkscrews, that usually meant 'I don't want to deal with you anymore'. The human could respect that. However, they wanted to see what the thing was that took her.

Whisper was just happy to be near Morgan again. Morgan was warm, for one thing, and it was starting to get a little chilly out. She was so small, and she could tell that she was going to be very uncomfortable if she didn't get more warm as soon as possible. She cuddles into Morgan's hand the best she can. The human gives her a very sweet pat on the head, and then continues to go the direction, away from the sounds of the main "street's" party. Down the alley, there was a dead end. At the very end of the dead end, there was a scarecrow slumped against the ground. At first, Morgan ignored it, trying to figure out if there was any way that a humanoid could have climbed up the side of a building to get out of sight. Not seeing anything, it occurred to Morgan that the scarecrow could have been the unseen attacker.

Morgan was actually mentally there enough to realize that they should probably get as far away from the dead-end alleyway as possible. For one, even if their assumption was wrong, they really needed to get out of there just in case the mansion decided to hem them in (or anything of that nature). For two- if they were right indeed, the mansion could wake that thing up again. It was terrifying how innocuous the thing seemed- enough to make Morgan sure that it was time to go home for the month. They put little Whisper in their pocket carefully and then high-tailed it, running into the main street and past the rainbow-colored dragon visage, and then out the gate. They went through the little orchard without stopping, and raced to the gate. Throwing it open, they ran out into the outer yard before stopping. They checked for anything of interest, and then was gone.

Morgan was beginning to get a little tired of mansion-ing. Perhaps if they actually made time to go down into the mines with a familiar, it would be more worth it. However, they had already decided to save their mining days for Endymion, and simply explore the mansion here with Whisper. They were enjoying being around Whisper, though they were finding it hard to figure out what to teach her in advance of her growth. They were also beginning to run out of the supplements that they had bought for her, so it was coming up on time to figure out what the finishing supplements were going to be.
Basically, working with a Fossil was a lot of hard work. Maybe it would be worth it when she grew eventually? For now, it was far off. "Come on Whisper." Morgan said to her, as they walked through the outer gate of the mansion. At least she could follow them now!
