Time sometimes felt like it passed oddly within the mansion, which had caused Morgan some time ago to design a little gadget that would keep up with the time simply by ticking mechanically, so they checked it nearly immediately after they came back to their senses from the shock of the cold. They hadn't been there very long at all, about a half-hour at most. That was reassuring, since it had already passed into what appeared to be darkness outside despite them having left out for the Mansion in the morning. Still, they didn't plan on staying there long despite that. This entire endeavor had not been a very clever idea. They would definitely bundle up more if they ever came back to the Mansion during this particular holiday- but they weren't sure if they ever would. They didn't feel like there was a lot more to explore during this particular mansion time.
Whisper didn't seem inclined to look for treasure today, anyway.

Whisper's disinterest in something that she normally quite enjoyed really clinched the decision for the bespectacled human. They took a little more time to allow Whisper to warm up, and petted her along her slick shadow-dappled back before they glanced around. They found a piece of cloth (perhaps a doily? but it was thick!) and wrapped Whisper up in it, finding theirself quite pleased that the little critter didn't wiggle or complain about being wrapped up (perhaps she was beginning to trust them very well?). At this, they placed her back in their pocket with just her head poking out from where she was wrapped up in a little 'rawr-ito' (the thought gave Morgan a little creaky chuckle just thinking about it). At this, they rubbed their own now quite warm hands together to ensure that they were in good condition (they were definitely going to bring gloves with them next time!) before they made for the door.

They had already decided that there would be little to no treasure hunting today out of necessity. It seemed like the Mansion had somehow ascertained that they were planning on leaving and was already whipping up a terrible wintry storm outside. They shivered even before they got the door open again and slipped out onto the porch. Now that Whisper was bundled up, Morgan only really had to worry about theirself. Their pants legs were still wet and they found it extremely uncomfortable, but they did manage to trudge towards the gate on the double this time despite the worsening weather. They were quite determined to get them back home after their little ill-fated trip, and preferably without freezing any fingers or toes off in the process. By the time they got to the gate there was quite the snow-drift piled up against it, so they found theirself having to clamber over that in order to leave. Finally- they were home free again!

Winter would be on its way out relatively soonish, but that didn't mean that it didn't still have it's frostbitten claws embedded deeply on the landscape even outside of the mansion grounds. Within them, Morgan knew, it would be even more-so prominent, and they came prepared this time. Even little Whisper was decked out in an ugly little sweater- one that she did keep ripping at with her teeny tiny little claws but still couldn't quite get off of her. The bespectacled human could feel the tiny creature rummaging around in their labcoat pocket, but at least she would be warm. Morgan had put on an extra layer beneath their clothes, as well as an extra pair of socks. Going out the way that they had to the mansion the month before had been a terrible idea, so they made sure that they were prepared this time before crossing that gate.

While Whisper was rummaging around in Morgan's pocket quite rambunctiously (making little noises of discontent as she did so), the bespectacled human stood at the gate and closed it gently behind them. The Mansion grounds were always effervescent this time of year and Morgan was not disappointed this time. They'd been here during this month a few times before, when they were younger, and each time they made the trip they felt a little bit more entranced with it. The yard was nearly always a sight to see, beyond the gate of the Mansion grounds. Some months it was mere grass (even in months where the grass should not be so green nor so healthy) but this month was one of the best in their own opinion, with crystalline 'grass' that looked quite otherworldly. It was like something out of a book! Even though they had seen it in person before, Morgan still found theirself quite entranced with it.

Morgan had to remind theirself; they weren't here to oogle at the crystals, they were here to find something very specific. Or at least to see if any more of them existed. They had long since noticed that each time they went out to the mansion to do some exploration, that the same objects tended to be produced that could be taken home if found each time. However, there did seem to be a lot of permutations of those things, and they were interested in finding at least one of each of the permutations if they could. Whisper was often quite good at helping to find things; but of course she suffered a tad in the winter months if they weren't careful. They reached their hand in their pocket and received the tiniest of little half-nips for their effort. She seemed to be doing well enough now, at least. At that, they started off.

The mansion grounds were so stunning at this time of year that Morgan really had a danger of just standing there and staring at the general area for goodness knows how much time. They'd long since began using the WATT to keep theirself on track; it generally kept track of time even with the mansion's strange time-bending appearance at time. Sure, it was quite odd to walk from broad daylight outside past a gate and into a veritable cavern beneath a blanket of stars; but they were quickly growing quite used to it since they had been studying the phenomenon for so long. Still, the sky was beautiful- and they stopped multiple times along the way to the mansion itself and just... Looked at how stunning the sky was. The night sky was often drowned out in the Labs-City, where the stars were much harder to see. Whisper poked her head out after the first few of these stops- finally seeming to grow adjusted or resigned to her little sweater.

Whisper peered out at the world around her and made a soft yipping noise- if one could even call it that. The noises that these little critters made were so very different to any other critter that Morgan struggled to find an onomatopoeia that seemed to fit for it. However, they knew her well enough to know that it was a noise of surprise and delight; she most definitely loved anything shiny and there were so many shiny crystals about that trying to keep her from leaping out of their pocket and running rampant would have definitely been difficult without the little sweater that they had gotten her into. Instead, she had to sit there and watch as they continued their little trek. These particular crystals would disappear if Morgan attempted to take them out -or at least they had the last time they had tried- so they didn't bother with them at all.

Even though Morgan didn't have any interest in the crystalline glass beyond that of just looking, little Whisper was having none of that. As soon as she noticed that they were not picking up any of the little sparkling blades, she squeaked and squealed, causing all sorts of mayhem that they feared would attract some sort of enemy or monster that frequented the mansion. They had seen a bear-like beast around here before, though they hoped that they would avoid as many of those as possible this trip around. After all; they were working on something specific. "C-chill out, little Whisper." Morgan murmurs, gently patting her little scaled head as they kept an eye out for any signs of dangerous beasts drawn in by her little noisy tirade. It didn't quiet her down, however. Finally, they stop and reach into their other pocket in order to fish out some sort of hard treat for her to chew.

They hoped that the tiny creature would quiet up and becoming distracted by such a rare treat; they tried to avoid giving her anything hard to eat out of an abundance of caution. The tiny fossil critter was only ever rarely given hard rawhide treats due to this, but she seemed to be unwilling to quiet down unless Morgan pulled out all the stops to have her hush. "Here you go, you tiny m-monster." Morgan complains as soon as they find the rawhide. The rawhide was nearly as big as her entire body- little Whisper's eyes practically sparkled as she caught sight of the rawhide. She did hush up as soon as she saw it, and Morgan couldn't have been more relieved. The idea of having to high-tail it nearly immediately due to a bear was... Not exactly something that they wanted to deal with within moments of arriving on the Mansion Grounds.

Morgan couldn't even remember how they had managed to get one of the bears to follow them home before, and they most certainly did not want to have to try again. Especially not with Whisper being here, since she was so small and screechy- she practically sounded like a chew toy! Though she probably wouldn't nearly be all that chewy, with her slender form. She gnawed at the rawhide and it made pleasant little crunchy noises beneath her jaws. At least it was much quieter than her previous screeching... Perhaps with any luck they hadn't drew any unwanted attention to theirselves. They fixed their sights on the mansion and made for it at the easiest possible path. However, it was still quite difficult. There were so many different strange and large crystal structures in the yard that required them to take a detour, and even worse they were often reflective and difficult to navigate. [8]

It was like a maze of light and mirrors, traveling through the mansion grounds during this time of year. They hoped to be able to make the best of the trip, but it seemed that the closer and closer they should have been getting to the mansion the further and further away it seemed to be. The mansion had already played this trick on them once before, so they wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they weren't able to make it to the mansion at all this month... Sometimes the grounds liked to play tricks like that. With Whisper contentedly crunching on the rawhide in their pocket, they couldn't quite hear much else around them. The ice made little high-pitched chimes as Morgan knocked them over and crunched the blades beneath their boots- which worsened the problem. They felt quite suddenly like they were being followed, however. They stopped and hid behind the nearest near-solidly colored crystal to listen further.

Wouldn't it be a mess if they really were being followed by a bear? They'd thought that they had been being abundantly over-cautious whenever they had given little Whisper the rawhide to shut her up, but perhaps they had been wrong. They waited with baited breath as they listened for any footsteps or clawing or even lowing to give them a clue as to what sort of thing had been following them. Of course they also could have been wrong entirely, and they could be simply being paranoid. Whenever some time passed and they still didn't hear anything, they peered behind them back around the crystal. Instead of looking back where they had come from... They were looking directly at the gate. How had they been turned around? Hadn't they been heading towards the mansion? They really shouldn't be that close to the Mansion gate! They cursed beneath their breath- would they really be thwarted on their trip like this?
