This particular month in the mansion was not one of Morgan's absolute favorites; but the Eccentric did really outdo theirself (if even such a person existed) with the intricate latticework that decorated the gardens. It was something that Morgan could appreciate; though it would not look quite good in their own estate it was quite delicate handiwork. Provided that the work was even done by hand, that is. Morgan sincerely doubted that it was done by hand, since they'd seen evidence of a more magical nature for the Mansion's grounds before on one of their many trips. At the very least, they could admit a preference for the slightly warmer weather that the month exhibited; and they were certain that little Whisper would as well. Their past two trips had been quite short due to the cold, and this one would be as well- but for other reasons instead.[1] - [Morgan is using Sever Bond for the duration of this trip.]

Morgan had not quite been able to get out of the lab for the duration of the month longer than it took to come home under the cover of wintry darkness with their face wrapped up in scarves and practically fall into the bed after barely managing to keep their eyes open long enough to take a shower. Because of that, they were making a short little trip out to the mansion to basically just go on a short walk with Whisper. The little creature had become a full-time-job to care for recently, making Morgan wonder if perhaps she was almost ready to be taken to the Museum for a checkup... They wanted to spend just a little more time with her before they did that, however. These creatures were quite interesting, something that was so different from the usual creature that they wanted to have ample time to study her; even if it was just a hobby-research project instead of something extremely fruitful.

Though the trip would be short, Morgan wanted to make the best of it. They gently placed their hand in their pocket as soon as they passed the gate with the most intricate latticework of all, and then they brought forth the tiny dark-colored creature. Her bright eyes squinted in the sunlight as she adjusted, quite quickly, to the change in scenery. Morgan couldn't help but bend down and place her on the tender shoots of new grass carefully before giving her a pat and whispering to her- "I-I-I almost forget that someday, you w-won't fit in my pocket anymore." It was certainly difficult to imagine, seeing as she had been so small for so long. Thinking of her getting too much larger just seemed wrong. However, after winter it did sometimes feel like the plants would never put on green again, so perhaps just as the mansion was showing now- it would feel right as rain whenever the change happened instead.

Whisper gave Morgan's finger a playful nip, much to their chagrin, and then turned to run across the clear-cropped new grass with glee. Morgan didn't let her get too far away from them outside very often; so she seemed to like to take the additional freedom in stride whenever she could. Morgan kept a watchful eye on her but did let her stray a few feet (which was quite a bit of distance for such a small little creature!) while they took a look around the area theirself. They hadn't spent nearly as much time these past few months on the mansion grounds as they used to, and they weren't quite sure exactly how to get back into the swing of researching it again. They glanced back towards the Mansion, taking stock of the changes that seemed to have occurred during this month. It looked so similar to how it had the past Februaries that they had spent there that they took a guess that it might have even been the exact same.

Perhaps at some point, Morgan would finally discover the secret of the Mansion and get bored of traveling these same swaps, but they hadn't been that lucky yet. Every time they stepped onto the lawn, they couldn't help but think about trying to figure out all of those little intricacies about how the Mansion worked. Today, that was not the goal however. They glanced back around to find Whisper, and panicked for a half a second when they didn't immediately see her. However, they finally saw the tip of her little dark tail disappear into a nearby rosebush, and only after a second did they realize that this was a bad thing. "W-whisper, come back!" Morgan exclaimed, moving over to that particular rosebush and then lowering down to the lawn in order to look beneath it to find her. "Whisper, where did you go?" She was quite good at hiding in shadows, with her dark-colored scales.

Morgan knew that it was much easier for them to notice movement than similar colorations (especially since Whisper blended into the shadows so well with her black scales and slightly lighter marbling) so they unfocused their eyes in order to properly be able to detected movement easier. It worked like a charm and they were able to quickly catch sight of her tail and little feet as she wiggled behind the stem of the rosebush beneath all of the dangerous thorns. The thorns might have been small and insignificant to someone like Morgan, but for a little critter the size of Whisper they were absolutely huge and sharp. Morgan didn't want to have to take Whisper to a vet (or worse, the healer) over something like being skewered on a rose bush thorn, so they wanted to get her out of there as quickly as possible. "Come here, Whisper!" They urged, only reaching slightly towards her with a hand.

This sort of thing was the entire reason why Morgan didn't usually let Whisper out of their sight! She was so small that it was hard to find her again, and while she was generally quite obedient she could also be a little too curious for comfort (perhaps it was all of that omega-three that they had been introducing to her diet?). It was also especially difficult to find her among all of these lavender colored roses... They weren't even aware that roses came in such a color! Now it was mostly the thorns that was causing impediment to them, they didn't really want to cut their hands up on the thorns too much... Or worse somehow hurt Whisper in extracting her from the thorny rosebush. Whisper was normally quite obedient, but she wasn't paying enough attention to Morgan to return at this point. What was a better way to get her to come to them if she wasn't really listening?

The answer, Morgan surmised, was with treats. Whisper's little nose seemed decent enough and she always got super excited over the treats that Morgan used for her. The bespectacled human bends back to reach into their Labcoat pocket and fish around for the treats. "I really need to find a better way of storing these..." They murmured as they fished around for the packet. Finally they were able to get something that crinkled like a little plastic packet out of their pocket and whenever they lifted it up they were able to realize that this wasn't the treats at all! It was a packet of little gummies, and the little creature wouldn't do well with this much sugar- not at her miniscule size. "Oh drat..." They cursed, and they put the packet back into that pocket. Maybe it was in the other pocket? They reached for it quietly, and finally fished out the needed packet instead.

They didn't dare glance behind them to ensure that there wasn't anything dangerous around (after all, there were often strange creatures that lived on the mansion grounds), even though they felt eerily watched. They didn't want to lose the curious little critter among the bushes again. They opened the little plastic packet and withdrew one of the many treats that were within it. "Here you are, c'mere Whisper!" They coaxed. At first, Whisper was too busy digging in the soft loam beneath the rosebush to pay any attention to their voice. However, as soon as the smell seemed to get to her nose she shot up straight and looked directly in the direction of the scent. "Oh, NOW you're p-paying attention to me, huh?" Morgan murmured. Whisper came running to take the treat out from between their forefinger and thumb where they had it pinched, and Morgan made sure to catch her right as she got near before giving her the treat.

Whisper wasn't exactly happy about being captured and restrained, but Morgan was careful with her as she struggled. "Here, just eat your treat you little monster." Morgan said, as they quickly put the treat in front of her face. She didn't seem happy about it, but she accepted the treat. "You really do make these little trips difficult." They complained to her, straightening up and getting out from under the rosebush to be able to stand on their own two feet on the grass. Slightly wet dirt fell away from the knees of their pants as they stood, and they wiped off the hand not currently restraining the tiny fossil critter on their pants as well since they were already a bit dirty. "You're going to be a nightmare when you're larger, aren't you?" They asked her, incredulously. Whisper was most certainly not whispering as she voiced her displeasure at being held. She wanted to be able to run around free!

Morgan hadn't been planning to spend long on this little trip out to the Mansion, and Whisper most definitely made them want to leave before they had even planned. She was growing more and more difficult to deal with as time went on, instead of less (unlike most of the creatures that Morgan dealt with- which got easier with time rather than harder) and Morgan couldn't even imagine it getting worse than what it had already been. However, they were intent on trying to stay at least until the change o-month, which they had purposefully cleared their schedule for. They hadn't stuck around for the change-o-month for this particular month swap, so they did want to study it. The little fossil critter wasn't going to ruin that for them this go around! "You need to be c-chill, critter." Morgan chastised, before holding up the squirming little creature in their palm at eye level to look at her.

It was up to them to decide how to deal with Whisper's erratic behavior. Should they just go home and take Whisper with them? Should they take her immediately to the museum to get her checked? Was something wrong with her? Or should they continue going on with her in their pocket the whole time like they had grown used to doing? It felt like a bit of a cop-out, to keep her in their pocket the entire time that they took a walk... Plus they needed to be able to keep an eye on her just in case she got sick during the turn-o-month. Morgan tended to get sick during the process of however it was done in order to change the Mansion grounds, but so far none of their creatures had. However, little was known about fossil creatures, so they had no idea what to expect about her physiology during it.

That concern in and of itself should make Morgan not want to take the creature- but no one had ever accused Morgan of being a stable person. They were often prone to taking risks that others most likely would not, and perhaps they had always been that way- not just after the consumption of their chaos node. They most certainly were not thinking about that was they looked Whisper over for an abnormalities in an attempt to decide for sure whether they were going to leave before change-o-month or not. "Are you g-gonna cause me trouble the entire time we're here?" Morgan asked her as they looked her over. Whisper seemed quite displeased to be held, but she did not dislike Morgan. Morgan brought her the food, after all- and that was a pretty good indicator of whether or not a creature would eventually become attached to their owner. Most certainly it did for her!

That was the deciding factor in the decision (if one could call it that) of Whisper not to bite one of Morgan's fingers (preferably the nearest one in her mind) as she continued to voice her displeasure. However, she soon grew quite quiet as she began to stare over Morgan's shoulder. There was something over there, across the yard but not overall too far away, and it was moving. Morgan noticed Whisper's strange stare behind their shoulder immediately, and suddenly realized that they did feel like something was behind them, earlier... What sort of critter would it be? Or perhaps a person? Something that wouldn't take advantage of the fact that they were not paying attention earlier when grabbing Whisper out from beneath the thorny rosebushes, whatever it was. They turned around to look, holding on to Whisper gently but efficiently in a cage of their small hands to keep her from running off again.

The thing that was behind Morgan was certainly large- and thankfully it hadn't seemed to notice them yet. They hadn't gotten a very good look at whatever it was before it moved behind an extremely tall and exceptionally well-leafed trellis that didn't seem to be there just a bit ago. Whatever it was- it was HUGE and Morgan didn't necessarily want to deal with an exceptionally large creature with Whisper (who was an exceptionally small creature) not only with them but also acting up. This practically made their decision for them; they were going to have to leave before turn-o-month. Whenever the mansion began to throw Giant monsters at them, it was generally a very clear and resounding 'get out' as far as they were concerned. They quickly made a bee-line for the gate, which thankfully was in the opposite direction of the giant monster. They gently returned the little creature to their labcoat pocket and kept an eye out for any dangers or neat objects on the way out of the grounds.
