She had grown a lot as an individual over the years, but the fact that a large portion of her past was forgotten was not the ideal. She felt as though sometimes she just went through the motions and the days and years went by. The cave was crowded today, apparently a lot of others had decided to go mining. She had her bag slung over her shoulders with some of the more basic tools packed. She opted not to pack too heavy today, as she wasn't planning on staying long. She had eaten a hearty breakfast and had a few snacks packed just in case. The Felusine had wandered off towards a group of people and their pets, deciding that she wanted to make new friends. The other people seemed to not notice her, and within a few moments Auna had moved on. The mammalian turned from the entrance and decided on her route. A simple tunnel that had many turns and was well dug through, but was also well lit and spacious. As the cave naturally shifted sometimes other gems and objects came closer to the surface. She noticed many areas where hopeful miners had tackled, and it was clear this was a well travelled route. Occasionally she took routes not travelled, occasionally she went around to the outskirts of the mines to get into less popular entrances. Sometimes she found interesting things, sometimes she mostly just found rocks and bugs. She motioned for the Felusine, and the two of them headed down the tunnel.

The murmurs of the other people quieted as she moved further away, and the soft patter of the rain also disappeared until it was an eerie sound of emptiness. Occasional rumblings could be heard as creatures burrowed around or other miners tried their hand in closeby tunnels. But for now, Amelia just wanted to walk. The ground was soft beneath her feet, the moisture kept it from drying out and getting hard. Which was interesting, considering how well walked this path was. The Felusine enjoyed stopping and picking at things, and it wasn't long before she came to Amelia with a shiny golden object. An ore, which she was familiar with, was slipped into her backpack. Once the Felusine was content, she went off again to search. Amelia wasn't sure why the mines felt so homey for her. She mused that before she lost her memory she was an avid miner. This made sense, considering the tools she owned were well used. However, they were quite sturdy and probably worked just as well if not better than new tools. This also saved her money, as she didn't always have extra lying around. She worked hard and sold what goods she could for a profit. She also liked to collect and hoard, and she could hear Sandy's voice ringing through her ears. When are you ever going to use that? Sometimes wisdom was obvious, but it took her time to come to her own conclusions. She liked the feeling of the dirt beneath her feet and having a chance to sit down and clean and polish each stone.

Sometimes she would spend hours at home going over the stones. Other days she would spend hours sitting out side and just enjoying the fresh air. The smell of fresh post-rain always enticed her, and it was her favourite time to be outside. She liked the damp feeling, and wondered if it meant she had lived somewhere with more rain before. The weather was pretty standard here. It snowed in the winter, rained frequently in the spring, would be dry and hot in the summer before cooling down again in the fall. Sometimes it rained a lot in the summer, and she found herself sitting inside more often to escape the summer heat. She was a snow leopard, and the heat was not her friend. The winter was another enjoyable season, but often her pets didn't enjoy getting outside and on terribly cold days she wouldn't stray far. The fall was definitely her favourite season, as the leaves changed and the smell of the air was constantly crisp. Most of her pets enjoyed the warmer days, and she left them to their own devices most of the time. Some people had more pets then they could keep track of, and when she occasionally stopped by the kennels she wondered how people were able to pay to feed all of these creatures. Especially the Sarane or the other really large creatures. Some of them were outrageously strong. She had a few creatures that were overwhelmingly powerful, and they were difficult for her to keep tabs on at times. Occasionally they would wander off. And although not violent, she wasn't eager to have them run into others.

She was impressed by their strength, and eager to be able to train them and harness their power. But alas, she had moved away from battling and they spent most of their days lazing around and grazing. She would spend days sitting outside and reading, often her favourite creatures would come up to keep her company. Others simply tolerated her presence, and she reminded herself she needed to spend one on one time with more of her pets. She was broken from thought when Auna came up to her once again, presenting another gem she had found. The Felusine had front paws that were more like human hands, and it was easy for her to pick away at rock and dirt. She had her own abilities to sense where rocks and gems were, and it may just be intuition but the woman was impressed. It also was that she was searching a lot, and granted she found a ton of dirt and rocks as well. But Amelia would smile and thank her, exchanging a treat for whatever the Felusine was presenting to her. She was shocked by how big they had gotten, and it reminded her of how quickly time was passing. Her family was growing around her and she was feeling a real desire for change.

It was easy to get stuck in a rut and a routine. She desired a change, and she was trying to figure out how to implement it. There were areas that she had not yet explored, and she desired to know who she was, where she came from, but most importantly, where she was going. There was a societal pressure to find a partner and settle down, but in this weird world it didn't seem possible. She rarely interacted with others, and dating sounded like a lot of work. Finding a partner was far from easy, and she wasn't quite sure where to start. So she stayed where she was and went through the motions. She was happy alone, but it would be nice to have somebody to spend time with. It was different than spending time with her pets. She couldn't exactly take Sandy for a weekend to the city, there was no where to put her. People in the city didn't have collections of pets. Often each person would have one main pet, and they were rarely the large species. It was their partner that they had chosen to do life with. There was a lot more social interactions in other areas, and that was where Amelia could feel herself wanting to go next. A bigger city with more people to meet. Auna whined and pushed her face into the mammalian's hip, again presenting a stone. "I guess you're right, I should start doing some of my own searching too." The Felusine did not understand her words, but gladly accepted the treat in exchange for the pretty rock she was holding.

Drip. Drip. Drip. The mammalian let out a soft smile while she sipped on her tea, listening to the rhythmic sounds of the water dripping in the mines. There were tons of underwater rivers, and it was something that the mammalian had found herself caught up in. The soft glow of her lantern lit enough area that she was able to get around and be somewhat comfortable. But there was always something eery about the mines. She didn't have bad hearing, but they always say that you don't see predators until its too late. It was always a possibility that something could creep up on her, and find both her and the felusine as an evening snack. The black sarane found themselves at home in the mines. She knew as she had found a baby here once. Lost and alone, she adopted the hen into her family. Was its mother still out there looking for it? Amelia could never be sure. She didn't consider herself a bad person, she had good intentions and feared if she left the baby it would end up starving, or worse, dinner for another tunnel critter. For now, she was taking a break. There was nothing wrong with resting, in fact it was essential.

She worked hard, and she had worked hard on herself. She had taken new measures to find happiness within herself and her life. She began leaving the house more, going to more social activities. She took her vitamins, ate healthy and tried to get sunshine and fresh air whenever she could. As spring rounded the corner she felt herself emerge from the depths of the cold, feeling like a better person. She was a more whole version of herself. Yes, it was always nice to make friends. Those were things she had, but also didn't. Occasionally she would be incredibly frustrated at her memory. She wasn't sure if it was a sickness, or what it was. Sandy had been kind to her, the old Thundergug told her what was necessary, and was kind to her when she struggled. She didn't know her past, she didn't know where she came from. In a sense, she didn't feel as though she knew herself. But, that just meant she would have to work harder to become the person she imagined her younger self would want her to be. There was no point in wasting time, no point in focusing on the bad things that happened. She was going to live her life to the fullest and become the kind of person she wanted to be. She wanted to appreciate every moment for what it brought. When she really took the time to meditate and practice gratitude, she realized she was overwhelmingly lucky to be where she was.
Auna curled up by her feet. If the mammalian was going to rest, she would as well. Yes, mining was important. But also, mining was just one of the many things that they could do today. It was hard to keep track of the time when they were deep in the caves, because the sun did not reach them.

But even when they were surrounded by darkness, it didn't necessarily feel like night time. The mammalian took another sip of her tea, and got up to gather her belongings. Grabbing her cart, she began to make her way down the tunnel. She knew the way she was going, even though she couldn't remember how she knew. It was odd, like instinct. How animals would know where they would migrate every year for breeding grounds. She imagined before she lost her memory she was somebody who frequented the mines, based on how well used her tools were. Maybe it was instinct, but she always knew the way she was supposed to go to get out of the mines. So she picked the direction she felt was right and walked that way. She kept her eyes against the ground and the walls, making sure to be aware of any sparkling or indicators of gems tucked away. These walls were picked away, and it was obvious she was picking a well trafficked route. It was possible this was inherently a safety thing. It was possible it was because it was a tunnel she had walked many times. Regardless, she seemed to pick similar areas. Occasionally she had found herself lost, or so she thought. Whatever pet she had brought with her would go ahead of her, and happily lead her out. Sometimes she would get tired and want to nap, hungry and have a snack. But never did she find herself stuck.
Auna chirped and ran down a side tunnel, and Amelia knew that was the way to go.

So it wasn't a surprise to her when she saw the faint light of the outside world. The days were getting longer, and the weather was getting warmer. Rarely did it dip below freezing anymore, and although her thick pelt was fantastic for the snow, she could tell it didn't get that cold as often. In the coldest of the winter days was when Amelia felt herself tap more into her mammalian blood. Something would overcome her, and she would desperately want to go outdoors. Sometimes even late at night, when it was dark, she would find herself struggling to sleep. Occasionally she would grab a warm scarf, but often she would forego it. She would walk out into her yard and sit on the hill. The faint light from outside her door would prevent her from hurting herself. She would sit on the ground and curl her tail around herself. Puffing her fur out, she would simply be present in the moment. She would feel the storm around her, the racing winds whipping around her. The snow would freeze on the tips of her hairs, and she would hunker down and become one with the outdoors. It was her most animalistic moments. She would forget who she was, feel herself become one with the winter. Snow leopards were created to thrive in the coldest climates, and she would feel her best in these cold nights. Sometimes she would spend hours outside, scanning the tree line. Sometimes she would have the craziest cravings, to just go out and hunt. Sure, she had a fridge stocked full of food. But there would be a weird desire, to just tear something apart with her claws. Eventually, she would feel satiated with the experience, and gather herself and go inside. Take a warm bath, curl up, and easily fall asleep.
Auna let out another chirp as she turned a corner, the light was bright enough that the lantern didn't seem necessary anymore. She would grab rocks, occasionally adding them to the cart or throwing them aside. The mammalian sipped her tea in silence, pulling the cart behind her, deep in her own thoughts.

Eventually Amelia would herself at an exit. It wasn't the only exit, hell there were more exits and entrances than she was even aware of. There were tons of different ways to find herself in the mines, and every way she went would bring her to different gems and finds. Sometimes she would find the coolest things, sometimes she would easily confused the stone for a rock and almost toss it aside, if it wasn't for her pets deciding to keep it. She enjoyed being in the damp cold of the deep mines. But then again, there was something about feeling the sun against her back, and walking in the warmth. When she would brush her fur it would fall out in clumps, as her coat would change biannually with the changing weather. As spring was here, the need for her insulating winter coat was no more. She kept herself meticulously groomed, as that was one of her rules to keep her mental health in check. She kept things clean around her home. When she would stop taking care of herself and her home, it wasn't long before she felt herself failing as an individual. She had set up a strong safety net for herself, which meant there were a lot of things she required of herself as well. It was a delicate balance, but lately she felt herself thriving with it. The mammalian parked her cart against the wall and sat on a rock, finishing the last bits of the tea she had made for herself.
"Well Auna," the mammalian paused, feeling weird hearing her own voice after so long of silence, "I would count today as a success. We've collected a handful of gems, and also we were able to finish in time to enjoy the last few hours of sunlight. Its not a far walk home from here, and we might be able to even enjoy the sunset from the beauty of the back porch." The felusine snuggled into the mammalian's sides, and Amelia could feel the contentment coming from the magical creature. It had been a good day, a successful day. For that, she was glad.

The sun glowed on the horizon. They say that the early bird gets the worm, and of course Amelia wanted to get the worm. Leaving bright and early, her and Charlie headed together towards the mines. Life had sort of just passed by for her. She went through the motions, she did more than the bare minimum. She explored as much of the region as she was able to, and the snow leopard found a new fulfillment in life. There was so much more that was out there than just the confines of the city. The kennels, the shops, the homes, the mines, and the mansion. Most people didn't venture outside the city, as it wasn't necessary. But Amelia had felt a yearning. She had felt a desire to see what else the world had to offer. She enjoyed the salty taste of the sea air, the crisp cold of the mountains. The vast openness of the prairies, and the thick brush of the jungle. She had explored and she had opened her own mind to what was out there. There was a lot to her history she wasn't aware of. There was a lot she couldn't remember, and so she journeyed out to get in touch with that part of herself. Of course, it wasn't that easy to learn things that were long forgotten in her brain. But different experiences sparked different feelings. Things felt familiar when she knew it was something she didn't outwardly recognize. It was apparent there was a lot of trauma that her brain had buried, and in a lot of ways she was grateful for this. But her body still remembered certain things on a cellular level. Eventually, she grew tired of the exploration.

It wasn't that she no longer wanted to discover these things about herself, it was that she continued to run into barriers. She would get to a point where there was no longer the opportunity for her to continue where she was. She would also lose the passion she had come to love. At the beginning the passion burned like a hot coal. She felt at home in the mountains, like her whole being was meant to live there. But mentally, she felt a disconnect and knew it wasn't the place for her to stay. So, she moved on. She had many wonderful sunrises and sunsets over some of the most gorgeous landscapes. But she desired to find a purpose, to find a deeper connection than the fleeting superficial feelings exploring brought to her. Eventually, worn and tired, she brought herself back to the city. She had found herself a lot more feral than she had expected. Her coat had thickened in the outdoors, and grown and matted in areas. If it wasn't for some of her more humanlike qualities, any townsperson would agree she belonged back in the mountain range. She bathed and got her coat blown out, rested and reaquaintanced herself with city life. She cooked quality meals, and she could feel herself slip back into the life she was comfortable with.
It was shocking how quickly the rising sun would light up the sky. When they had started their journey it was basically pitch black and they had to practice caution to avoid tripping, now as Charlie and Amelia neared the mines their path was well lit.
