Renathan knew that today was going to be pretty interested, and he was nervous. The russet mammalian makes his way to the breeding center so that he could breed a pachee he bought from Jack named 'Shadie' and one of her beloved females, Doe. He was planning on giving her one of the babies, and to ensure that he had an extra baby and a female (he wanted a female so much since all of his were males) Renathan had also brought a pouch of berries for the entire breeding. He had been told how to do this, but he was still a little nervous whenever he entered the room and put the two carriers down. He opens both of them up, allowing the female out first, before introducing the male. He felt like that sounded right to him, anyway. The female was a strange creature that he wasn't quite used to; it had dragon wings and deer antlers, a bit smaller than his. She also had rather pretty purple eyes, and a... Slit on her head. That was what made her female, from what he had been told. The male didn't look like that; and was instead endowed with pollen bits on his tail. He seemed pretty excited, anyway.

Renathan stood quietly, awkwardly, looking between the two. He'd been told that pachee sometimes took a while to breed, but not as long as a good orbaru breeding? He had never bred pachee before, and he was a bit nervous to be doing it alone for his first time. However, he had faith that nothing would go wrong. These had to be done indoors in a sterile environment to keep the females safe and healthy, from what he had read, so he made sure he was here. Now that they were all in a sterile room, he pulls out a carefully written checklist, and checked off 'sterile room'. That was one thing that he had been worried about down! Renathan found himself a seat and sat down. The male was currently staring at the female, but keeping his distance. Renathan wasn't sure if they ever really needed to get close, since pollen traveled through the air and all. That kind of made Renathan feel a bit icky, since he knew that the pollen was essentially... Yeah. He didn't want to breathe any of that in. Then again he breathed in tree pollen all the time, presumably. So maybe he shouldn't feel funny about it.

Shadie was a very... Strange pachee. While Mesquite was very calm and kindly though not quite touchy, Shadie was actually a bit aggressive, and very aloof. Shadie had been quite hard to wrangle to get in here. He seemed to be checking the female out from a distance, slowly getting closer, walking on all fours as opposed to standing up quite yet. That was probably a good thing, Renathan had seen them releasing pollen every now and again, and they stood up on their hind legs to do that; slapping the tail against the ground. He didn't need to do that at the moment. His chocolate-colored eyes narrowed as he kind of walked in a circle around the female. She, on the other hand, was doing something with one of her wings, keeping an eye on the male a bit, but also 'preening' on that wing. Her antlers were really neat, especially now that Renathan got a good look at them. The russet mammalian hoped that she passed that on to at least one baby! He was going to take the female no matter what, because he needed a female for his Mesquite, but perhaps he was counting his metaphorical chicks before they hatched.

Shadie was quite standoffish, and Renathan had been hoping to all of the spirits of the land that he wouldn't find some way to fight her. Sure, all of the rest of his pachee were sweet and just left whenever Shadie tried to start anything, but this was definitely a situation where Renathan would have to separate them manually if anything bad happened. He was sure, at least, that the female wouldn't fight back; but he also didn't want Shadie to hurt her if he tried. So far though, the male was simply watching her, and testing his luck to see how close he could get. Doe, as she was called, was certainly wary. It seemed like the females were perhaps more wary than the males; and she kept her slit tightly shut. It would seem that they chose their mates oh so carefully. However, Jack had told him previously that she had been bred before, so he was sure that she would produce if given enough time. She was a proven breeder before. It was Shadie that Renathan was worried about, despite the fact that females tended to be quite wary it seemed. Shadie finally seemed to find a position to simply stop and stare from.

Renathan prepared himself to do whatever was needed next. On one hand, he needed to make sure that as soon as he had any indication that they were going to breed, that they got berries in them beforehand. However, he also needed to make sure that he could separate them if he needed to. Pachee were incredibly docile naturally, so he held his breath. He knew that Shadie was a bit odd and aggressive sometimes with the other males... Soon, however, he noticed Doe begin to perform some kind of fancy wing movement, and scratch the tip of her wing with an antler... Ah, the male seemed to hold his breathe at that. That was good, he thought, that must mean that he was interested in her, as opposed to feeling aggressive. He was holding on to that pollen with prejudice, however, perhaps not wanting to get rid of it quite yet. The female was not yet ready, after all. She fixed her purple eyes on him, and both of them ignored Renathan as if they had not noticed him there. That was a good sign, right? Renathan sure hoped so, he didn't want to have to tell Jack that he had taken a chance on an aggressive male...

Renathan was a lucky person. That didn't mean that he didn't have to put in effort, however. He sometimes made life quite hard on himself, and he wished that he didn't get so much discouraged as he did. He wished that he was more like Jack, he really admired her work ethic and ability to deal with hardships. She was amazing. He couldn't help but think of her, as he watched Doe begin to approach the male confidently. Shadie was making up for his insecurities in all of the worst ways, Renathan noticed, even though the creature... Plant... Thing was much more simple than Renathan was. However, Doe was just confident. She was living in the moment, like most other pachee did, though she did seem to have some kind of quality that Renathan just couldn't place in contrast to Shadie. Shadie's coat was beautiful, shimmering different black shades and showing off that he did, in fact, have that underlying 'mottle' that some Pachee had; it was just black as well. A little more black than the rest of the body. Absolutely stunning, but Doe was pretty in her own right. She was russet with stark pale markings. Renathan bet that her previous babies had been gorgeous!

For some reason, at this point, Renathan just felt like the creatures were actually going to breed soon. Sure, he had never done this before, but Shadie was watching Doe carefully, and Doe was seemingly sizing him up, looking him up and down now and not quite playing coy anymore. Perhaps because she had bred before, she seemed more confident than he did, and seemed to be curious as to why he was not releasing his pollen yet. However, she wasn't quite opening up yet either... They seemed to be at a bit of a stalemate. Renathan knew that he needed to get the berries in them, soon. He opened up the pouch and pulled out the blue berry, and then the several pink ones. The pink ones were for females, he told himself. He put the pink berries very close to Doe, and the blue one near Shadie. Shadie had been fed with fruits before, just not this kind, so he immediately mashed them up and soaked the nutrients with his paw tendrils. Renathan stared at them a bit nervously, wondering if Doe would eat her berry as well. If one could even call it eating. Soon enough, perhaps because she'd done this before, she grabbed her berries as well.

Renathan was glad to see her mash up the berries and then soak them up through the paws. Renathan was a bit worried that one of them would grab the wrong berries somehow. However, now that they both had the berries, the breeding could actually commence at any time and Renathan wouldn't have to worry. He crossed his fingers for pretty babies, and was sure that whatever happened he would be proud of. Renathan just had to wait for everything to actually happen now. Breedings were all about patience, and he wasn't really the best at patience. Renathan watched as the pair finished up their berries, the berries now mysteriously gone, and wondered curiously where the berries actually went. It seemed like all of the nutrients were absorbed, leaving nothing behind at all. He was quite shocked about it though, because he expected a husk to be left behind or something. He'd never watched a pachee eat before, he usually just tossed them regular berries to make sure they had enough nutrients, though they usually seemed to get enough just from the garden in general. So this was a bit of a shock to him, that was all. The pachee didn't seem bothered, of course, though.

Renathan was hoping that they would breed soon. He didn't really have forever to be here today, and he was busy. However, he knew that he wanted to get this done regardless. He'd been meaning to breed Mesquite, but he had been cautious with what to breed him with that would be pretty. He was hoping for some good browns with this breeding, or perhaps a copy of the male... That probably would never happen though. He wondered what kinds of babies that pachee generally put out. He was a bit concerned about it. While he was thinking about this, however, the male and female parted again, standing at a distance that made Renathan a bit puzzled. Were they not going to breed now? That would suck, since the two of them had finished their berries, and those were the only ones that Renathan had... What a shame Renathan thought. However, soon enough, he realized that Doe was beginning to open up her little fore-head slit, and this was not at all missed by the male. Shadie seemed anxious, moving from paw to paw in a nervous dance, as if he was trying to figure out exactly what to do. He was young, after all!

Renathan wondered if Shadie would ever get it. Doe was being very polite to him, and also very patient. Renathan could certainly see how she seemed a little concerned as poor Shadie had no idea what he was doing. Renathan held his breath as the poor creature finally stood on his back legs, seeming to get it a bit since the female raised up on her back legs, probably to try to help the poor guy out a bit. As soon as Shadie was up on his hand legs though, he began slapping the tail on the ground very well; releasing a veritable cloud of dust into the air. No, not dust, pollen. His was dark, caramel-chocolate in color and looked absolutely strange. Renathan covered his mouth and nose, hoping to not get any of it in his nose. However, Doe seemed to step right into the cloud, opening up and practically dancing in it. She was pretty, using her wings to move the pollen so that she could catch as much of it as she could, and it almost looked like a dance. Renathan was pleased, and gave them a little bit more time to do this before the breeding appeared to be over. He packed up both pachee and made his way to the front, pleased.

Look at those beautiful colors! One male, and one female, both antlered!
