Renathan was happy to see that the Equillion had managed his attempt at stalling quite well. Renathan knew that they didn't have a lot of time left, and it was getting a bit scary. They were also running out of tricks; but he still had a plan. A surefire plan, or at least that was what he told himself. He really wasn't feeling all that confident for this tournament. He immediately whistled the command for the Hidden Mist; a strange tone, before the thundergug could fully catch it's bearings. The equillion heard it, and immediately mist began to form around him. He had used this the last battle too, and Renathan was sure that they would make it this time too. Shy Guy stepped back into the mist that was so thick it could have probably been cut like butter, and was, for all intents and purposes, gone. Very hard to see in that kind of a fog! Renathan knew that it would give them what could possibly be their only chance to really strike. Renathan was holding his breath. He didn't know if this thundergug had many tricks... Or what they could be.

There had been so much going on in the way of unusual attacks that Aster was surprised to see the mist. So it was an Equillion after all... Or, then again, maybe not. But he had seen the ability before on some of his Pures, particularly when they were startled and wanted to get away from something.
It was an effective tactic, to be sure. The visibility had dropped considerably. Aster didn't know whether Grunty would be able to find anything in that mess, and the Thundergug's training hadn't covered many defensive moves as of yet. A glaring omission, to be sure, but it was too late to remedy that now, of course.
Bash, Aster urged after a moment's consideration. Let's just try it and see. Who knows, we might get lucky and you'll end up right where it is. The opponent had to be in there somewhere, after all. It was only mist.

They were officially out of tricks, Renathan knew, but thanks to the fog, he was sure that Shy Guy would be fine. However, Renathan knew that they were going to have to absorb at least one attack to get the thundergug down; those things were tanks. Absolute tanks. Renathan couldn't see where either of the two were in the fog, but he felt the emotional link, and could tell that whatever the gug had just done hadn't caused Shy Guy any pain; that implied a miss. Renathan knew that it was time to do something, and he knew that he had two shots, they had to be done just so. "Go Get Em'!" Renathan cried out; the command for Horn Strike. He'd made sure that all of his commands were hard to understand, hoping that opponents would not be able to guess them adequately. Shy Guy, unseen to the viewers, had been watching the Thundergug, staying just out of reach. At the call of the command, he rushed the thundergug, horn-first, leaping at the last second to strike it home. Renathan held his breath.

They didn't manage to make contact with the target after all, but to be honest, Aster hadn't been optimistic about their odds there anyway. Grunty swung wide and turned, stamping his feet and swinging his head. Impatience wasn't one of his usual faults, but Aster didn't imagine he was enjoying such a prolonged bout. And there was the pesky issue of poison.
[How are you holding up?] he asked.
[The itching aches,] Grunty replied. Not a promising response, but his movements still didn't look terribly labored just yet. And now the opponent was coming at them with what looked like a straight attack, finally. Aster wasn't sure he trusted this, but on the other hand, you had to hit the opponent eventually in a fight to win.
[See if you can jump, and throw your weight on when you hit,] Aster instructed. [We've done it here before.] It wasn't going to be as effective because of how tired Grunty had gotten, but he was probably still capable of getting a decent hit in. They would just have to see if it was enough to do the trick here.

Calculations
Shy Guy uses Horn Strike Shy Guy's Dexterity of 8 + 4 rolled by staff = 12 vs. the 4 of Grunty Shy Guy will deal the most damage possible Shy Guy's Strength of 5 + 4 damage of Horn Strike = 9 9 - Grunty's Resistance of 6 = 3 Grunty's Stamina is now 11
Grunty uses Pounce + Bash Staff rolls a 10! Grunty automatically hits Grunty's Stamina of 11 + 6 damage of Bash = 17 17 - Shy Guy's Resistance of 4 = 13 -1 Damage for Stone Skin Shy Guy has -4 Stamina left
Gruny has 10 Stamina left

Shy Guy's pitch blank twisting horn was stabbed into the nearest soft spot of the thundergug, undoubtedly doing a bit of damage. However; he had run straight into where the thundergug was going to crash... Renathan could hear the crunch; and he knew that once again, his poor equillion had gotten absolutely smashed by one of those huge brutes. It made Renathan cringe, but if Renathan knew Shy Guy; he knew that down there, when the dust settled, that he'd still be standing. Renathan whistled the command for the Lightning bolt; hoping that Shy Guy would be fine. The air suddenly smelled like ozone, threatening thunder out of a blue sky. The dust cleared, and Shy Guy was struggling to stand up from the ground, his front half up, and his hind legs dragging. However; he was strong enough to pull one more attack. The lightning bolt was called from the blue; heading straight down. Hopefully; this would do the trick, because one more hit like that, and Shy Guy was toast. Thundergugs. Were. The. Worst. Renathan wondered if he should have trained one of those, instead.
[Shy Guy uses Call the Lightning!]

Aster could feel the opponent's attack connect through the mental link. He could also feel the Gug's energy starting to flag. That would be the poison, he thought grimly. But he could also feel the satisfaction that Grunty felt upon finally smashing into his foe.
Both of them thought that would be it. Once Grunty managed to hit something, that was generally enough to end it. Barring some other behemoth, like a Wiurn or another Gug, even Aster didn't expect anything to take a hit and get back for more.
But the Equillion did. Aster's brows arched up in surprise. Well, he had expected to be surprised this round, but evidently he hadn't been imaginative enough.
[See if you can hit him one more time,] Aster commanded. Surely it couldn't take two strikes, though it had better be soon. Their time was running out too. Grunty wasn't going to be able to hold out forever, even with his bulk and vitality.
