She stared up at the Mansion, hands clasped behind her back, the Jibiji sitting on her shoulder staring as well. Her one bright eye gleamed in the darkness and she finally strode forward with purpose. This was as good of a place as any to start, she thought, having just gotten to the Labs this morning and after setting everything up. They were quite organized, something she enjoyed, as much as she could enjoy something, and she thought it would be a lovely place to stay for awhile. The animals intrigued her, though they would have to be trained, and she had picked three of them to start off with, anything more and she would insist on the previous three being trained. While yellow and blue weren't quite the colors she would have enjoyed for a bird, it was better than the bright pink of the other breed at the moment.

She accepted only the best in animals, and she had picked the ones who seemed most like her, able and willing to learn and listen. The Jibiji on her shoulder stood at attention, chirping quietly, something it would need to be trained out of eventually, concerned about what was ahead, but unwilling to leave her partner. Nat found it almost endearing if it wasn't expected of the bird so far, and she climbed the steps as well as she could for the moment as she tried to judge what would be inside the normal looking building so far. Tales were told of it changing month to month, and while she found that far too fanciful for her tastes, she knew better than to ignore the magics of the world. In fact, that is what took her eye and ear, a magical bullet straight through her head. Most had been reconstructed, though she bore the scar proudly.

Natasha put her clawed hand on the doorknob and turned, pushing open the door to the sights within. The bird on her shoulder whistled in disappointment, and she found herself a little underwhelmed as well. It was a normal looking entryway, something she had seen in far too many officer's houses in her time in the army. Being honorably discharged had been a fate worse than death, she hadn't known what to expect from her life, but they had given her a choice to go to the Labs, a far off place where animals and people lived in harmony. Or so she was told. She was no idealistic dreamer, she didn't expect everyone to get along, but she figured going to the Labs was better than pitying herself, so off she went at the ripe age of 51 and now she found herself here, in the doorway to a rather normal mansion. Disappointing.

Her paws clasped each other behind her back once again, and she pursed her lips on her muzzle, deciding whether it was in her best interest to look around or not. This was highly disappointing, she had expected something a little more like fantasy than this, but perhaps it was further in the building, and she took a step forward, the bird on her shoulder digging into her white shirt, holding on as best as she could with her little talons. They weren't enough to pierce through the fur on her shoulders, but she still gave the bird a withering look with her one good eye for a moment before she realized it wasn't worth it for such a little bird. She sighed, the first noise she had made in the building, when the floor seemed to give way and she slid down a ramp, the little bird clinging tightly to her.

The ramp seemed to never end, and Natasha was getting rather annoyed by it, when the bottom suddenly hit her with such force the wind was knocked out of her. The little bird, Vesper she had called her, hopped around a bit on her chest, trying to see if she could help, but the tigress finally brushed her off brusquely and pulled herself to her feet. Her boots were scuffed now, and as she swept the dust off of her black pants, she tried to take a look around the room they were in. It looked as if it was an old coal chute, but those tended to open to the outside, not the inside. Hmm, interesting, perhaps there was something to this large building than met the eye? Giving the slightest smirk to her own thought joke, though she would never admit to it, she leaned down and picked up the bird before she dropped her onto her shoulder again and then decided how to approach the situation.

There was a door on the far end of the room, but it couldn't be that simple. She had a feeling there were more tricks up the sleeve of this building, but she couldn't put a finger on it for the moment. She raised her brow a little and sighed again before starting off across the room. Nat had a simple mindset, do what needed to be done and nothing more, no little tricks, no flourishes, just simple and effective to get the results she wanted. Luckily it played out well for her, and the coal room was at her back as she stepped through the doorway and into a... cavern? Her brow raised again and she shook her head, simply trying to figure out if she saw that correctly or not. Was her eye deceiving her or something? It was impossible she thought, but she didn't really understand if she wasn't being tricked.

The cavern room was expansive, almost like an actual cavern in the mines, or at least she assumed that's what it looked like, she hadn't been there yet. Nat didn't have enough credits to buy herself tools just yet for mining, which was a shame, she would have liked to work hard in the mines she thought, but she assumed there were places like this down there. She frowned as the bird on her shoulder chirped a little, and she took a step forward, arms at the ready for now just in case something jumped out at her and the bird or something of the like. Nat didn't appreciate being caught unaware, and was typically at the ready whenever she could be that way. Sleeping was the only time she could be caught off guard, and even then she slept with her ear cocked and ready, listening to what she could, she was a light sleeper.

A few more steps were taken before she stood there with her hands clasped behind her back, surveying the room in front of her. There were crystals growing from the walls, something which made her brow raise for a moment, and a deep pool in the middle of the room, surrounded by crystals. If she wanted, she supposed she could take a dip in the water, but she had never been the biggest fan of leaving the ground no matter what happened. It wasn't that she was afraid, she was just practical and didn't feel like she should fall to her death from the air. Water was a little better, she was a decent swimmer and swam if the occasion called for it, she just didn't seem to think it called for it at the moment. Nat stared into the water and seemed a little transfixed by it as Vesper trilled on her shoulder.

It wasn't like she could go swimming in the little pool anyway, she didn't have anything to swim in and gods forbid she swim in the clothing she was wearing now. There wasn't a chance in hell she would swim naked either, who knew who might come across her, and the little bird wouldn't do much to run them off she would think, especially since she didn't know how to fly yet. That was something she would need to train her sometime, though Vesper would need to get a little more experience in the world before she attempted that. It wasn't as though she knew how to train something to fly either, maybe there were people who could give her some tips or something as she started to train. She'd heard of a training guild that helped new members along. Maybe once it accepted new members it would be prudent to try and join.

Well, Nat wondered if it would be possible to break off some of the crystals from the walls or something and attempt to sell them. She had to gain credits somehow, she had managed to get a job in town as a skilled laborer, but she needed to make more credits than that in order to make her way in the world. All she had on her was useless money from her old country and the military, which she had left at the Kennel since it couldn't be used by her anymore here. The Labs were an odd place, the only place she knew that had their own way of spending money and things. It didn't make it bad, just odd, she supposed as she tapped one of the crystals. Vesper trilled in response, thinking it was another bird for a moment until Nat took a look at her for a bit.

How she wished she had a pickax to work with on these crystals, they might have to sell for something. She ran a paw over the smooth surface before she noticed Vesper moving down her arm to perch on the crystal she had been touching. Ah well, it was fine to be there for a little while, Nat decided she would explore, and the bird would tell her if she was getting too far away by trilling as she usually did. For not hatching her, Vesper seemed to be rather attached to the tigress, it was strange, but that didn't really matter in the long run. She sighed a little and smoothed back her fur on her head, careful around where her missing ear was supposed to be. She could still hear, she still had the ear hole, but it wasn't covered by an actual ear anymore, so she decided she should start wearing something over it just in case.

Honestly she thought she could wear another patch over the hole, but she decided against it. Perhaps she could take up leatherworking and fashion herself a new ear, one that wouldn't swivel like her biological ear could, but it would at least be helpful in hearing. Deciding that was an excellent idea, she nodded and then explored the room a little bit, trying to not get too far away from Vesper, lest the bird start yelling. It was a shrill noise to hear, and Nat would rather avoid it if at all possible. She frowned a little, the crystals were everywhere, and the room seemed to be getting darker. Well it was night time about now, but it shouldn't be changing the light inside of the mansion. The frown deepened when she realized it could very well be dimming inside of the room, there was nothing saying it had to stay light in there with how it was.

Perhaps it was time to leave the mansion for tonight, she thought and plucked the bird from her perch, putting her back onto her shoulder before glancing around, trying to find out where to go from here. It was a little disconcerting having only a single eye, her depth perception was off now and it had used to be so perfect. Still, she could see an archway across the room, and so the pair headed for it for the moment to see what they could possibly find over there. Nat was ready to head to the Kennel and curl up in a corner, they didn't have anywhere else to stay for the moment, any of them. It would be awhile before she could save up for a house or a farm, she wasn't sure which she would prefer at this point, but that was alright because it didn't matter just yet.

Nat was a proud woman, she accepted no handouts, and when a young woman had come along and offered her a few things, she had politely but firmly declined. If she was going to make it in the Labs, then she had to fend for herself she thought. She glanced at the bird on her shoulder and then went through the archway further into the mansion. It was so strange, it looked as though it was bigger on the inside than it was on the outside of the mansion. A brow was raised for a moment and then she shook her head slightly and marched across the room, only to find the door locked when she reached for the doorknob. Nat frowned and turned on her heel to appraise the room, there must be a key somewhere around the room in order to leave. It looked like a normal tea parlor, so there were many places for one to hide.
