x Leafy had decided to borrow more Pachee in order to do another breeding. The last offspring she had gotten turned out beautiful and she was looking forward to seeing what other combinations she could make. She had two carry kennels with her containing two Pachee. This time she had opted to use a dark female with a thick mane named Rozz. For the male, she was using a bright red male named Dragonfruit. She felt a bit more comfortable working with Pachee since she had bred two together recently. The breeding centre was bustling with activity. When it was close to the end of the month, many people tried to cram in a few last breedings. Leafy was no exception. “Hello there!” she cooed to the two Pachee as she entered the breeding room. They blinked up at her with wide, curious eyes as she set down their kennels in the middle of the room. The room itself was uniform with the others. Leafy wasn’t sure if all of them looked the same, but it looked like the last one she had been in. It was sterilized with disinfectants and it smelled just like the inside of a doctor’s office. 1/10

She let the Pachee sit in the comfortable kennels for a moment, allowing them to adjust to the room. Leafy was prepared for the monotony of the breeding room this time. She had brought some of her own storybooks to read. After a few minutes of waiting, Leafy decided that the Pachee were ready to be introduced to each other. She let Rozz out first, allowing the female Pachee to have some time alone to adjust to the room. She was interested in Leafy first of all and she approached the girl, pressing her face close to the girl in order to get a good look.
The Pachee had dark fur and a furry mane. Leafy thought that it looked incredibly soft. She wanted to feel exactly how soft it was, but she didn’t want to scare the female Pachee. She reached her hand out anyway, allowing the female to investigate her on her own terms. After a few minutes like this, Rozz started to grow more comfortable with Leafy. She wasn’t exactly eager to trust the girl, but she was okay being in the same room with her. When she thought she was ready, Leafy turned to let the male out.

Dragonfruit exited the kennel quickly, moving swiftly as though he had no patience left after being stuck in the kennel. Leafy didn’t think it would be such a bad place to be trapped. There were soft, cozy blankets and it was insulated to ensure warmth. Dragonfruit was eager to inspect the room and just as eager to meet the pretty female who was sharing the space. Leafy settled back into one of the chairs in the room. She had brought plenty of reading material that she could use to preoccupy herself while the two Pachee got to know one another.
The book she had brought was filled with fairy tales. A recent trip into the mansion had reminded her how much she liked reading them. The two Pachee began with shy introductions as Leafy flipped open her book. Dragonfruit tried to rub his face against Rozz’s in a friendly greeting. The male Pachee must have been too straight forward since Rozz jerked her face back. Leafy laughed at the sight. It would take the two a bit of time to become sweet on each other, but she was confident that they would get there in the end of it all.

Leafy turned to her story, deciding to read while she watched over the progress of the two Pachee. The cover of the book depicted two Vulticus snuggled up together in a field of wildflowers. The cover was artistic and illustrated with the utmost care. She ran a finger along the cover, tracing over the image. She wished she could draw like that, but drawing took time to practice and Leafy didn’t have that time to spare. She could try learning, but it seemed to be a bit low on her priority list. She wanted to get good at jewelry making first but in order for that to happen, the gemstone workshop needed to reopen first.
She snuck a glance over at the two Pachee. They were watching each other carefully. Dragonfruit was a lot more interested in the female Pachee than she was in him. Leafy couldn't tell if she was just playing hard to get, or if she actually wasn't all that sweet on him. She felt worried for a second, but if Rozz wasn't fond of the male, she likely would have left his sight completely. For now, she continued to watch him with wide, curious eyes.

There had been a lot of different activities sprouting up again in the recent months. Breeding Pachee was one of those things. The Orbaru were still barren and nobody had any real info on why that was. Leafy didn’t mind all that much. Orbaru breeding could be rather boring and she often found herself bored out of her skull when she was doing it. It helped if she bred her Orbaru with ones owned by someone else since it went by a lot quicker when she had someone to talk to. She stared at the Pachee and squinted, trying to figure out why they had stopped being able to be bred.
She remembered a time long ago when the Leaf Scatters had gotten sick. Had it been something like that? She looked at Rozz and then at Dragonfruit. The two Pachee appeared to be in good condition. She was no doctor, but they appeared lively and their coats were shiny. Again, Leafy had to refrain from running her fingers across the shiny fur. These Pachee didn’t belong to her, she had no right to bond with them. She thought back to the Pachee she did own and smiled. She should try breeding them.

She needed to get more Pachee first before she was able to breed them though. She was grateful that the labs allowed three breedings per month. She had already used one breeding this month and she was unsure if she would have time to do another one after this. She could try breeding one of her females to one on offer, but she also had her choice of females to borrow. She mostly picked which Pachee to breed based on which coat colours would look nice together. People might have thought that she had unconventional tastes. She liked breeding bright colours to ones that looked more natural. She tended to like how the results of those looked.
Dragonfruit had backed off from the female, allowing her to have some space. The female relaxed and allowed herself to check out the male now that he was more relaxed about the whole thing. Leafy found herself relaxing as well. It wouldn’t do her well if the two Pachee didn’t get along with one another, but things seemed to be doing a lot better now. She turned back to her book, trying to hide her gaze from the Pachee. She didn’t want to get caught staring.

Leafy began to read her story. It seemed to be a romantic story between two Vulticus. The female was named Missy and the male was named Maxwell. She looked over to Rozz and Dragonfruit. The two looked like an unlikely pair. He was straightforward and energetic and she was quiet and reserved. In the story, the two Vulticus came from very different backgrounds. The male was raised in a sheltered environment with rich owners and lots of other creatures to play with. The female lived in the wild, having escaped from an abusive situation. Even with their differences, the two Vulticus managed to fall in love.
Leafy wondered if that was how pets actually fell in love, if they even could fall in love. She had little experience with the subject matter. She loved her pets, but that was strictly platonic. She thought she might have loved her parents platonically as well, but she couldn’t remember them at all. Perhaps she didn’t actually come from parents. Sometimes she thought she might have been cloned, but that didn’t seem quite right. Dragonfruit pawed at the ground. Leafy knew that Pachee had special paws, ones that had roots attached that could snake into the soil.

Rozz grew a bit bolder. She stepped right up to Dragonfruit and rubbed her cheek against a chair near his right. Leafy watched the interaction with a curious expression etched on her face. She didn’t quite know what they were doing. Were they itching their faces? It was a possibility but for some reason she didn’t think that was it. She turned back to the story, skimming the pages and looking at the pictures. The love story was certainly romantic, even Leafy could see how it was in a logical sense. She didn’t feel much attachment to the story though. It just didn’t seem that realistic.
She watched the Pachee closely, studying them. They seemed a lot friendlier now. It was almost remarkable how quickly they had warmed up to one another. Leafy found herself smiling. Seeing it happen in front of her eyes felt a lot more satisfying than reading a fictional story in a book. She supposed the story was nice, but she much preferred stories that had monsters in them or morals that weren’t ones she could think of on her own. Rozz had pressed herself close to Dragonfruit. It seemed almost like the two were cuddling with each other.

Leafy at the very least knew what cuddling was. She knew that baby pets needed lots of cuddling if she wanted them to grow up well adjusted. She had never thought about romantic cuddling before. She didn’t exactly like other people encroaching on her personal space. She simply wasn’t used to it. She felt herself stiffen at the thought and she looked away from the two Pachee. She could tell that they would soon be comfortable enough to start the important part of the breeding process. Leafy didn’t exactly know what to call that part where the male created pollen and the female caught the pollen.
She had experience gardening and the whole thing seemed pretty similar to that. There was more intimacy to it than simple plant breeding however. Leafy wondered if the Pachee experienced love. She didn’t think so. She could hardly think that anyone could fall in love in that short of a time. She continued to watch the two Pachee to interact sweetly. The girl felt herself grow even more curious. The two Pachee were even closer now, speaking in a language that the girl couldn’t understand. It felt like the two Pachee were far away from where she was.

The whole process felt a bit alien to Leafy. She could understand that it was about to happen soon. The two Pachee were too close to one another for nothing to happen. Dragonfruit began to grow more hyperactive, as though he was full of feelings that he couldn’t control. Rozz appeared to grow more energetic as well. She continued to press against the male Pachee, her tail twitching as though she was waiting for something to happen. Leafy supposed she was. Dragonfruit began to slap his tail against the ground, sending a thick swirl of pollen into the air. The girl covered her nose, not wanting to accidentally ingest any of it even though she was sitting quite a distance away. You could never be too careful.
She averted her gaze as the female Pachee caught pollen in the opening on her forehead. The whole thing was still a bit strange to the girl, but she understood that this had been the goal of the entire breeding. She waited a few minutes for the Pachee to be finished. When they were, Leafy gathered up the two of them and placed them back in the carrying kennels that she had brought them in. She felt a bit sad for them having to part from each other, but she needed to return them now.
