The fog grew brighter as more and more of it came out of the Amulet and collected together. After about twelve seconds - which Riku could feel was only so long due to the years it had been waiting to be released - the fog condensed into a seemingly corporeal form. To his surprise, the fog had taken the form of a creature of some sort. About two feel tall, it hovered in the air as its body continued to transition from ethereal. It had a long, smooth, opal colored body similar to a serpent’s, and an almost canine head with two long whiskers, one to each side. It seemed to have a sort of harder-plated white scaling at the top of it’s head and snout, and its eyes were a sky blue. Elegant, almost flimsy white wings sprouted out a few inches behind its head. The feathers drooped down emotionally with golden tips as long as the serpentine body. Riku 1/5 — Kioume 1/10

Riku could see a blue braid off the fur of the creatures right cheek. It was a cute fashion that clearly couldn’t have been done on its own. He knew Cephalo must have tied the other half of the ribbon there.
As soon as it was done realizing itself out of the fog, it seemed to be ‘given life’, and looked around the room and at Riku. Its eyes squinted in a bright, toothy smile as it did a back flip in front of him in the air.
“Happy Birthday!” Riku suddenly heard through the ribbon. The creature’s wings flapped very slowly - too slow for it to physically keep it in the air. It must have been kept up with some type of magic, which wasn’t a surprise since it had come out of a piece of jewelry. “I’m Kioume, as you must know to have summoned me. It’s so nice to finally meet you, Rickoli!” He held the end of his tail up for the human to....shake.

He took the tail end, hesitantly, in his finger tips and began to shake it. The spirit shook his fingers with enthusiasm, though the boy was still confused.
“It’s nice to meet you, too....Kioume?” He laughed a big, nervously. “I’ve never seen anything like you before.......” he added. It was a compliment, and he hoped that would be translated as so through the ribbon.
The spirit’s head nodded with a lot of motion, still smiling. It’s teeth were tiny but clearly sharp. Riku got the sense that it didn’t exactly...eat..so they must have been for show. As if its entire body was an symbolic expression of what it ‘stood’ for.
“Yes, I am Kioumeiratresdofeürikadiytometteramorrhae - but you can just call me Kioume.” It laughed through the ribbon. “And just because you’ve never noticed something doesn’t mean you’ve never seen it.” It flew over towards the window and gestured for him to look out.

Riku got up off his bed and followed the spirit over to the window. It pointed with its tail outside and said “There are many of us, and you see us every day. You just might not recognize us in this form....but this is one of many ways we know each other.” He looked up at Riku with admiration, like a long awaited friend or celebrity. Turning his tail towards a tree, he continued “Do you see that tree, there?”
“Yes, I do...” Riku nodded, noticing the look of the spirit. He thought the creature was beautiful and mysterious. Clearly it was happy to see him. The fact that it knew Cephalo....made him feel closer. He still had so many questions.
“That is a friend of mine.” Kioume stated with an audible chirp. His whiskers flickered a bit as he ruffled his nose. “You wouldn’t be able to pronounce his name, though, so I won’t even bother.” he jestered.

He pointed this time to the sky. The clouds were overcast, but the mountains in the distance could still be seen as the air beneath them was clear enough. A piece of the clouds opened in the distance and the rays of the sun could visibly be seen in perfect ribbons straight to the ground beneath the opening and to the left.
“There...” Kioume said, eyes glistening. “That’s me.”
Riku looked at him, wondering if he had ‘commanded’ the clouds to open, or if he simply knew that they would at that moment. “Do you mean the clouds, or the light...?”
“I am the Spirit of Shine.” The creature answered, suddenly with a regal tone rather than a poppy one. It was something he was proud to be.
“That’s amazing - you’re amazing, Kioume.” Riku chose to test the boundaries by placing his hand on the spirit’s ‘back’, right beneath the base of its wings.

The spirit didn’t seem to mind Riku’s hand touching him. He pushed back onto his palm, accepting the affection. “I’m glad to finally meet you, Rickoli.” He warmly stated.
Riku made a uncomfortable expression, and replied “Yeah, you too, Kioume....but I actually go by Riku now.”
The Amulet Spirt spun around in excitement. “You mean I can call you Riku, already!?” He did another back flip like he did before and let out an audible roar, making his new human laugh. “Wow! Just like Cephalo did, I’m honored.” He had another big, toothy grin.
“Well....it’s not really like Cephalo did anymore. Everyone calls me Riku now. That’s my name here.” He said, awkwardly looking to the side. He wondered if Kioume knew what had happened, but assume he hadn’t. “How long have you been in that Amulet...?” He finally asked. It was time they had that talk...

Kioume looked at the human a bit confused. He ruffled his nose again and sort of snorted. “I....don’t know? Spirits don’t really experience time like beings from your reality do.” He looked out the window again, watching the breeze in the trees and the light on the ground and water running in the distance. “We sort of just do our thing, and ‘time’ passes without us even being aware.” He looked back at Riku, seeing that the boy looked concerned. “Why do you ask?”
“It’s just...” he put one hand on the window seal, and looked out, away from the spirit. He tried to find the words to say. It was obviously not an easy task. Even he did not want to say the words this creature needed to hear. “Well, time has passed here in this ‘reality’. Things have changed.”
“Like what, Riku...?” He asked, testing the newly permitted nickname.

Riku took a deep breath. “For starters, I don’t live in Aullador anymore. I assume that letter you came with was enchanted to find me wherever I was before my birthday. This is the Labs City, far from where Cephalo and I called home - but it’s home now.”
He paused long enough to let the spirit nod in understanding, but not long enough to ask questions before he could get to them first. “And....I don’t have magic anymore. So...you and I don’t have as much in common as we would have before - but only for a little while. I’m working on getting my own.”
He looked out the window again, watching his inhales and his exhales. He was beating around the bush, and he knew it...but how does one say these things? He had only just met this clearly sentient creature, and he didn’t know him well enough to wage wether he would take the news well or not.

“And Cephalo...” he decided to continue “is..gone.” He held his breath after that last word, and tried to choke down his emotions. He didn’t feel comfortable with this spirit enough to show tears in front of it.
“Where did he go...?” Kioume questioned, moving closer and reaching out with his tail to rub Riku’s back.
Riku looked up with a sigh and a short laugh. This thing wasn’t making it any easier. “No, I mean he’s...dead. I’m sorry.” He tried not to sound too cold, but it was all he could do to not get emotional. He looked down, then back up at the spirit again.
“Mm....” it began “I think I understand.” It paused, continuing to comfort the boy. He moved even closer and slowly wrapped himself around his back and shoulders.
“You do...?” He reached back and held the soft tail that was wrapping around his shoulder.

“Yes, but we see death very differently....you see, a spirit never dies. However, I think that’s true for your kind as well....in a way.” He smiled again next to Riku, his large wings covering the boy’s entire back as if they were his own. “I can still feel him - especially here with you.”
It was a much unexpected answer. He had assumed the creature would cry or roar or something of that nature, but instead it was very....zen. In fact, its response even seemed to help him. “Thank you...for telling me that.” He said. “Did you know....?”
Kioume nuzzled up to the side of Riku’s face. “I no longer felt myself shining upon his face, so I had an idea......that or he had moved underground.”
They both laughed. It was really nice to be able to take a delicate and sensitive situation and make light of it like this. Truthfully, Riku needed it.
