It was midday, but you would never know. The sky was overcast, heavy with rain that had not fallen yet, clouds upon clouds and not a hint of the sun peeking between them, not even the glow to betray the sun's position. Jinx, who never wore a watch, had learned to tell time well enough by positions of the sun and sometimes the stars even. Neither would help her today. As long as she was back to work in time for the morning feeding, she figured she would be just fine. What brought her here was somewhere in the water before her. Ashe had helped her relocate Selkie for the time being, setting up nets to form a sort of pool in a portion of the dock, so she wouldn't have to carry a fish back and forth. How would one go about doing that, anyway? The nets would keep Selkie in one area, weighted down so they reached the dirt floor, but deep enough that the tat-lung could swim around with ease. Now, Jinx sat, in what could barely be called a bikini swim suit, on the dock looking down at the water. She thought she saw a silvery flash, but she couldn't be sure...

Her feet touched the water, if she sat on the edge of the dock. She let her toes slide into the cool water, a welcome chill with the air so hot and humid above. Heavy. Just waiting for the pin prick that would pierce a cloud and let loose the deluge. Until then, Jinx would sweat in peace, it seemed. Moving her feet this way and that, she kept her eyes trained on the water's surface, willing the sight of a large koi fish to come into view. The swishing of the large tail, the slim body cutting through the water. Try as she might, she couldn't see the fish for the longest time.
And then, over there - ripples! She held her breath, waiting, hoping. It took what seemed like forever, but then the ripples erupted again, closer this time. She could see the scaley body underneath this time, and was delighted to see the tail fin as Selkie went back under. In an attempt to entice him closer, she wiggled her toes some more, causing her own ripples as well as a soft splash sound. Selkie swam closer to investigate, and she was treated to a soft brush against her feet. So smooth, soft but firm to the touch.

She continued to play with the Tatlung, wiggling her toes and shaking her feet, teasing and enticing. Selkie found this to be more like a game than anything else, and started to become braver and braver, coming to nibble at a toe or to splash a tail fin at the surface, wanting to be a part of this. He never stayed long, always getting too shy and swimming back down under the water, almost to the bottom of his small make shift pool. But he would return, and that was the important part.
While he was doing this, Jinx started to get the idea that maybe she should train it to come to a specific command. She thought about this for a while her feet stilled and eventually even the water stilled, except for small ripples when Selkie came up to see why she stopped playing. Should she go with a whistle? A tune, more than a sharp sound? Or should she say a word? This would be her first time training something, come to think of it! So she had to make it perfect.

Ashe had been running errands all morning, as a special thank you for one of his best employees. Jinx had come to him, homeless and with just a pet or two of her own, struggling after a rough journey and leaving her caravan. She had some skills, such as tending to Equillion, but not much else to offer. She was nice on the eyes as water is to a parched throat, and honestly before Vix had come back, Ashe might have tried something... But he was beyond happy with Vix and wouldn't dare mess that up. He was doing good, and was even trust worthy enough now that Vix didn't seem concerned that Jinx stayed at Zanarkand. Or rather, she had a room, even if she rarely used it...
But back to the task at hand; Jinx had expressed her desire for more Tat-Lung, loving the one she already had, and Ashe had had access to some of the more common ones. And potions. A quick gulp and they were fish again - how cute! With him today was Chrome, who pulled the buggy that made carrying the fish tank so much easier. The poor Lapis had been cramped in the tank but now Ashe was going to set it free.
Hopping out of the cart, seeing Jinx on the dock, Ashe called out a greeting. Inyala was present, too, and gave a chirp of greeting to the girl herself.

Jinx looked up, hearing the sounds of Equillion hooves on the soft stones and sand that made up the shore. She saw a familiar Equillion pulling a cart, and then saw her boss getting down out of it. She jumped up, running through her mind all the reasons he might be here. Had she not done a good job at the barn today? Did he think she skipped out on her duties? Or did she actually forget something? While she wanted to do a good job and earn her living, she also didn't feel that terrible if she forgot to do something. She wouldn't be here forever, and Ashe would eventually be a blip on her radar as she moved on with her life. He could try to chase her down if she owed him something, but good luck because Jinx was nothing if not skilled at getting lost!
"Hi, Ashe..." She said, walking down the wooden dock to meet him. Just in case he wanted her to do extra work, she gave him an extra warm smile and clasped her hands behind her back, which made her spine arch and things perk up just so. You know, to distract him. Men were such silly creatures, and she really wanted nothing more than to play with her Tat-Lung. "What brings you here?"
Concerned at being left behind, the silvery Tat-Lung swam along the surface, large eyes and gaping mouth visible from above water as he tried to see where she was going.

Just as she planned, Ashe's mind went blank as she approached him. He might be doing a pretty good job at being a loyal man, but he was still a man... His eyes lingered where they shouldn't, even when he tried to pull them back up to her face. Why didn't she wear more clothes? Or a proper bathing suit? He stood there stupidly for about three minutes, the sparkle in her eye growing all the while at his expense. Then he cleared his throat and looked past her, doing his best to keep her body out of his focus. But even foggy from lack of focus, the curves were tempting. Oh look, something in the water; it must be Selkie, waiting for her return.
Ashe was brought back when Inyala gave a sharp tug on his hair, her little clawed hands wrapped tightly in the strands. He cleared his throat again and remembered suddenly why he was here. Tat-Lung! Right. Thanks, Inyala. He turned around to grab the tank and, with a soft grunt, he hefted it up. Inside was a juvie Lapis Tat-Lung.
"I brought this little guy - girl? - for you. Figured Selkie could use a friend." He made a slight gesture toward the dock, where she had her little pool set up. It was heavy, so if he could just go dump this...

Oh! So he hadn't come to scold or to ask for something else from her. He wasn't really a slave master type, making her scrub his bathroom floors or anything (he now had a robot to do that part), and she didn't feel like he picked on her or made her do too much, but just the fact that someone, anyone, expected anything from her made her feel confined. Like a trapped animal. Even if that trap wasn't painful or scary. But he was bringing her a gift, and now she was reminded of his kindness over the years, gifting Equillion, Tat-Lung, and even a crossbreed or two. And now he had gotten her some more. How sweet!
"Oh, thank you!" She stopped the shameless flirting and clasped her hands in front of her, excitedly. She peered into the tank at the fish, and was simply in awe over its beautiful scales. "This one is so pretty! Such a deep blue color.." She noticed his gesture and clued in. "Oh yes, let's go get it in the water! So it's not so cramped anymore." She led the way back to her spot, and smiled when she saw Selkie waiting for her. She knelt, then sat back down, extending her legs again to tap at the water, making the fish below splash around in excitement. "Yeah, I think Selkie needs a friend!"

Relieved, and feeling like a weight had been taken off of him now that she wasn't teasing so much, Ashe followed her toward the dock. Of course, this was only a baby step better, because now he was watching her walk in front of him, but with Inyala's help, he was able to focus instead on where they were going. At first, he'd tried focusing on her shoulder blades, but the delicate slope and movement of them was so smooth and feminine, a part of a woman most men didn't think about despite the very obvious effect it could have on the general female shape, were terribly distracting. And then he tried focusing on her hair, but, you know women's soft hair that smells so nice, feels so nice...
Inyala to the rescue. She used Ashe's hair to basically steer him to the dock, causing him to wince and bite his tongue, suppressing any sounds of discomfort he might make. Once he arrived, he had the brain power to set the tank on the side of the dock and tip it over, letting the lapis fall into its new temporary home. The blue fish jumped out once, did a flip, and then swam down into the depths to meet its new friend and to explore its new home.
"Well, I hope you enjoy her. Be sure to bond with her a lot before she grows again," Ashe cautioned. He'd fed her a potion that would allow her to continue to grow normally, instead of being stuck in certain sizes forever. "I gotta get going. I have a drake to break, and..." He trailed off, shrugging. Practically any excuse not to get in the water and splash around with her right now. He cleared his throat, gave her a nod of farewell, then turned and left.

The blue fish was a little more scared, and as soon as it hit the water, it darted down into the darker depths where it felt safe. Jinx decided to let it relax a little bit; she wanted to keep working with Selkie, too. After watching Ashe leave, Jinx dropped to her stomach on the dock, drooping an arm over the side. The water was only inches from the wood of the dock itself, so her hand easily reached the water. Good. She had training in mind and wanted to get Selkie started. She had some fish treats - honestly, she wasn't sure what was in them, hopefully he liked them! Cautiously, she dropped her fingers into the water and she drummed them lightly, making tiny splashes. She could see the silvery streak of her fish down below, but he didn't know that he was supposed to come to her yet. He stayed below, probably checking the Lapis out.

Jinx did it again, patiently waiting. It was a fish, and while she had heard legends of what these fish in these lands became, right now he was still a fish. She didn't think he gained the mystic intelligence of a dragon until he was fully grown. Patience... It would be worth it, to form such a bond with a creature. Below, she saw him coming closer to the surface, but he kept getting distracted and turning back. Jinx tried again, tapping her fingers in tiny splashes on the surface of the water. No sighting of the blue fish itself, just Selkie investigating. But he was coming closer to the surface! Perhaps he was curious about what kept making all that sound. Fueled by this tiny improvement, Jinx tapped again, smiling. Whether or not he was listening to her, Selkie was a gorgeous shining silvery color and she couldn't take her eyes off him. Closer and closer... But not coming just yet.

Jinx continued tapping on the surface of the water, trying to entice the fish to come close enough to touch. It was still unsure of her, still new to being with a human, but Jinx was persistent and Selkie was...curious. He approached, then darted away, startled by something. He swam a tight circle and started to approach again. Slowly, getting closer and closer... He saw those fingers, like claws or worms - it could go either way! But the girl wasn't as scary anymore, as they had spent this tiny amount of time around her and she hadn't tried once to hurt him or attack him. She hadn't done anything that nice yet either but he hadn't given her the chance, perhaps... He swam closer, curiosity getting the best of him. And when the tat lung came as asked, Jinx smiled and tossed some treats for fish into the water. Delighted, Selkie bobbed along the surface, inhaling the treats. Wow! Who knew approaching the girl would be this good?

The fish was goofy and awkward as it inhaled the treats. Fish had never been part of Jinx's knowledge bank. They were beautiful and she liked to watch them swim, but she didn't know much about them besides...eating them. Or watching them swim admiringly. She'd had to study up on what these guys ate, and the how they ate part was still strange to her. Her life had been more filled with creatures with jaws and teeth. While he was close, Jinx touched his scales with a couple of fingers, feeling the smoothness beneath her touch. It was almost slimy it was so smooth and wet!
"That's a good boy, Selkie," she murmured to him. He swam away, a little nervous of her touch and being this close to the human. He was quick to dart away, gliding through the water. She needed him to come back! He had to get used to her somehow. She drummed her fingers on the water again, making sure they made a good, solid sound.

He hesitated and didn't swim over that quickly. It made Jinx wonder if he was going to come back at all, or had that first time been a fluke. She waited patiently, her fingers still in the water. Occasionally they would drum again, to let him know she was still there. Still waiting. He had to decide to come to her on his own; she couldn't hope to chase a fish down any time she wanted his attention! And she couldn't really force him to come closer.
Meanwhile, Selkie was smart enough to have picked up that she wanted something when she made noises. The way someone can tell when a baby cries, though not exactly what they wanted. Just the cry for attention. Finally, Selkie decided it was time, and she was persistant enough, that he had to investigate. So he started to swim toward her again, cautiously. She was a big, looming shadow and just because nothing bad had happened yet...

Jinx waited patiently for Selkie to make his way over to her. When he reached her, she tossed him a few more fish food pellet treats, and watched with amusement as that face bobbed up, the gaping O mouth inhaling the food quickly, leaving no trace that there had been anything floating just a moment ago. But she didn't give him more! She put her hand in the water completely, for him to see and rub against he if so desired, to basically get used to the presence of. Her hand wasn't a clawed Izer leg reaching in to grab him! And then, of course, he grew bored and swam away. She let him do his own thing for a while, then she started tapping on the water again, calling him back to her. She knew he could hear, or feel the vibrations, and she waited patiently for the response.
And he responded quicker this time! It was only thirty seconds or so before he started swimming toward her.

He must be putting two and two together now. Tapping, plus his approach, equals treats for him to munch on! He was rewarded again, and the process started all over. He lingered a little bit before he swam away, just checking to see if she wanted to feed him more since he was already there. When he was sure she did not, in fact, want to fatten him up right now, he mosied on away. Just to be called back a couple of minutes later! He responded quicker, almost as if he had been waiting for the request for company. He swam on over and gorged himself on the treats Jinx tossed him. She did this a couple of more times, making sure that he had it down. He was learning the taps meant to approach. But! She didn't want to have to feed him each time he came over. She started cutting back on how many treats offered.
