Morgan had not, however, expected the tat-lung (no matter how brilliant) to finish it in twenty minutes. Then go on blathering about it for another hour before Morgan managed to procure him another book. It was beginning to become obvious that the tat-lung would slowly work his reading capabilities up. However, it soon started that the tat-lung was asking 'what is _' and 'what does _ mean?'. That was when Morgan realized that in order to finish that up, Ryuusei was going to need a dictionary. Luckily for him, Morgan had a ton of them. He was presented with one that had pictures, to help. At that, Morgan allowed him to finish up learning at his own pace, which was apparently lightning-quick. At this rate, they wouldn't be able to keep it hidden from Seimei that he could read for long!
About a month into it, Morgan was convinced that Ryuusei had learned to read well enough.

The human decided, about halfway through working with Ryuusei on his reading, to work on Seimei with his. They felt like they had enough experience now to try it out with the more impatient tat-lung, and it was about time, too. Thankfully, Seimei was still none the wiser that Ryuusei had actually learned his letters first. The human lead Seimei (who was pretending not to be excited, and to be sullen) to the park, and put down all of their laminated books to begin. "Alright S-seimei, you know the drill. We're gonna work on two simple things before starting your reading lessons." They wanted to use the reading lessons as an incentive to get Seimei to learn the other two things, which are interestingly enough, battle-readiness things. Not that Morgan wanted any of their tat-lungs to be a battler, even in the slightest.
Seimei reluctantly agreed. It was time to start.

Morgan knew that Seimei wasn't super happy about this, he was anything if not impatient. Hopefully that translated into success when it came to the lessons today. "A-alright, Seimei. First things first, we are gonna work o-on your Roar." The human had decided this first, and then the dodging thing later, since that one would probably be easier for Seimei. The pearly-white dragon tilted his head at Morgan. "You know, a s-scary noise, to frighten enemies into stopping." The human continued, hoping that this would be the ticket to getting Seimei to think that it was cooler than even really what it was. He did, after all, get into trouble as soon as he had matured because he decided he liked fighting quite a bit.
Thankfully, Seimei obliged. "Alright. T-this will be the cue whistle for Roar, okay?" Morgan asked. Seimei rolled his eyes, but seemed eager enough.

The difficult part about this kind of training with most creatures is that they didn't really learn the command the first few times. Then again, though, working with sentients was completely different. Especially ones that one could talk to- like Millicent who was taught to speak, and the tats, who Morgan communicated with through their ring that allowed them to speak with tat-lungs. It was immensely useful. As soon as Morgan told Seimei what the cue noise was, he pretty much had that stuff down pat. Morgan hardly ever had to worry about it, especially when the signal wasn't close to any other signal they used, like the one for roar. "T-the key is g-gonna be to get you roaring enough to stop enemies in their tracks. Let's see what you've got!" The human exclaimed, before putting the whistle to their lips and giving the cue immediately. Unlike Ryuusei, Seimei had no drawbacks about this.

Seimei was not as shy as Ryuusei probably would have been. He backs up and draws himself up before calling out with a loud ROAR. It wasn't anything that probably would have come from Waar, but he did fairly good. "T-that's great, Seimei. You did good!" Seimei sent Morgan the most scathing look, and the human winked at him. "I know, I k-know, no patronizing you. B-but it's not quite 'there yet'." The human said to him, watching his reaction, which was clearly more calm than Morgan had expected. "Louder, and uh, you d-don't have to draw yourself up much. Quicker, for the surprise effect." Morgan explained to him. Then, the human gave the whistled cue yet again. Seimei wasn't hesitant at all, absolutely determined to prove Morgan completely wrong. The roar this time was much more up to snuff, but there was something slightly missing...

The human's face told Seimei exactly what he needed to know, and it frustrated him. 'Still not right, huh?' The pearl thought. He turned his head away and huffed. Morgan tried not to give him a piteous look, but didn't quite manage it and did so anyway. "No-no, you almost had it that time, come on. I c-can tell you are angry, put some of that anger into it!" The human said, raising both fists. The tat-lung looked away, and then looked determined. "That's the spirit. C-comon!" The human said, before bringing the whistle up to their mouth. The cue was issued, and this time, Seimei put all of his anger into it. The Roar rolled through Morgan like an incoming thundercloud, issuing forth the thunder. Of course it was a real roar, and Morgan was impressed. "T-there you go! You got it!" Morgan called out. [5]

Now, it was all about the repetition. Thankfully, Seimei probably didn't need a lot of repetition- tat-lungs are incredibly intelligent after all. The human continued to give the whistled cue, and the tat-lung proceeded to do what he was supposed to, even though he wasn't exactly enthused about it. This went on for about fifteen minutes flawlessly before Seimei sent Morgan the tat-expression that meant 'can we stop?' Morgan was convinced that he knew it enough to nod to him. They stopped, Seimei cleared his throat and looked away. "A-alright. I think you got that, I know you did." Morgan corrected theirself. They were much more comfortable with Seimei, and thus able to show their weakness and if they were wrong in front of him than others. "One more t-thing before you learn to read." Morgan said to him. Seimei tilted his head, frustrated already with it.

Seimei looked frustrated. 'And what else could you have for me to waste my time before you start helping me learn to read?' Seimei conveyed, crossly. The human wanted to quip back, but kept theirself from it, narrowly. "This is something you'll h-have down in no time flat." The human murmured, but Seimei was still cross with them. It would just have to be that way, then. Morgan knew that the reading lesson was going to take the rest of the day, and they might as well take this time to get something taught that they couldn't just work on easily elsewhere. The human never knew how much time they had to work on things. "A-alright, this is a sort of maneuver to get away from most physical attacks. I-it's basically just a really quick burst of speed. Like a sprint." The human explained in triplicate to the tat-lung. [7] - [Start on 'Dash']

Ryuusei hadn't actually been taught this yet- it was partially because he had to be taught how to use his firebreath, which is not something that Seimei had. Not that Seimei wasn't special- it was just that the talents his breed naturally possessed were in some ways, even better (at least in the way that Morgan didn't have to teach them!). Dash would have to be on Ryuusei's next list, they guessed. "A-alright, you've got this. We've got to practice teaching this s-so that Ryuusei can learn it next time I take him out." Morgan said. That indication to Seimei that Ryuusei hadn't learned it yet automatically seemed to make him more interested- he was nothing if not very competitive.
Morgan put the whistle to their lips and played the tune for dash. "T-this is what we'll be using as a cue." Then they played it again. Seimei immediately started running.

Well, Seimei did sure know how to run. The issue was that he wasn't really dashing, so to speak. The human tapped the underside of their chin thoughtfully, and called out to him in triplicate- "Seimei, do some, I dunno- weaving or somethin'." The human tilted their head, considering. Seimei let out a harsh huff, and then bounced back and forth a bit. "No no, not a b-b-bound... Not like a deer." Seimei stopped, suddenly, turned about speedily, teal eyes furrowed at Morgan. The human huffed back at him, playfully. "A-alright, I get it. You're trying to make a dodging action, though. Not just running." Morgan tried to explain. Seimei raised a forepaw, and then waved Morgan off in a very humanlike gesture. Something he picked up from the human undoubtedly.
Morgan gave the whistled cue again, and this time, Seimei was doing it right. Stopping, starting, dashing, all using the cue whistle.

Now it was all about repetition. That aspect of working on any kind of teaching, or training when it came to the non-sentients, was annoying as one could imagine it to be. However, the human knew that it was important for Seimei to get the action down pat, and it was even more important for him to do it as soon as he heard the whistle. It could literally be a matter of life and death if they ever actually had to use it (and Morgan sincerely hoped that they did NOT)!
The whistle cue was given, and Seimei would dash out of the way of an unforeseen claw or bite or some other nonsense. The whistle call would be given again, and the action would be performed again. The human gave a word of advice every now and again until it was done perfectly each time that the cue was given. Soon, Morgan was convinced that he knew the behavior.

Seimei was panting by the time he was done, and Morgan was pleased enough with him. Fueled with the newfound confidence of having taught Ryuusei (in secret) how to read before this, the human reached for the stack of books, selecting the laminated broad but thin one, the one with the common alphabet in it. Both upper and lowercase were in there, as well as pages with all of the sounds that a letter could make. This book had been practically ran through by the highly intelligent Ryuusei, but Morgan knew Seimei was more intelligent (at least book-wise) by experience. "A-alright, you earned it Seimei. Here's the first book." Morgan said, practically beaming at the pearl tat-lung. Seimei tried to give Morgan one of those 'withering' gazes of his, but Morgan could feel how false it was by the waves of relief and curiosity coming through the emotional link they had.

The human knew that this was going to be a lot of work, and honestly didn't feel very ready for this, at all. It wasn't that they didn't want to, or that they thought Seimei would be slow or annoying with it, but they had so many tat-lungs that really deserved to learn how to read, and it was going to take a lot of work to get them all to that point. However, Morgan was determined, if nothing else, and had already a bit of success with Ryuusei under their belt. All of this weighed on Morgan as they opened the book up for Seimei. Seimei sat down, and peered at it with his bright teal eyes. He looked... Excited. He was trying to hide it, though.
"So- this is A. Uppercase and lowercase." Then they began explaining when and where uppercase and lowercase was used. Then, they pointed to it again.

"A. A makes lots of sounds." Morgan said, giving examples of all of the sounds that a could possibly make in a sentence. Then, they moved on to B. This part of the process was easily the slowest part, but Seimei was conveying in a manner to himself that Morgan probably would have counted as being 'under his breath' if he could have actually spoke. That was good, he was working on memorizing. Morgan watched him twitch his fingers too, as if he was beginning to try to work on his LSL too. Morgan was absolutely amazed, by the time they went through all of the letters, with Seimei's studiousness. He asked to see the book without Morgan speaking, and then he began running through them himself. 'A, ah, ay-' He went through the best he could, and honestly he was doing incredibly well. Morgan had went through this twice with Ryuusei, before he got it. [13]

After Seimei was done (holy wow he'd almost got all of them right) Morgan and Seimei went back and forth a few times, until it was much later in the day than Morgan had meant for them to be out. By the end of that Seimei certainly knew all of his letters. "We need to go home for today, s-Seimei, but We'll come back tomorrow during my break hour, and getcha f-fixed up." The human said. Seimei was reluctant, and refused to let go of the book. Undoubtedly he spent the entire night studying. Whenever they came back the next day, Morgan intended to start them on the basic sentences and pictures book. Morgan pulled the little kids book out, and Seimei looked insulted. 'Can't we start on this one?' He asked. Morgan took the book, and found that it was actually a book on species- an encyclopedia with basic species information and pictures. "Oh isn't th-" A little extreme? "Oh alright."
