Fiera made her decision. She stood up, gently sliding Algol off of her lap. He woke up softly, making high pitched little noises as he looked up at her blearily. "Come on buddy, we're heading home." She said, and began packing up her equipment. She'd have limited days with Algol as a baby, and she wanted to make the most of it. While this mining trip was useful for bonding, deserved some proper quality time. He had been very good on this trip, and Fiera wanted to give him a proper reward. Preferably, a lot of meat and some particularly sturdy toys, or perhaps a sharp and toothy game of fetch. She could work out the particulars later. For now, it was time to get home. She carefully led the hatchling out of their room, replaced the rock barrier, and led him out of the mines and into the light.

Another month, another trip to the mines. Well... perhaps not strictly another month. October was nearly at it's end after all with just a few days left in it, and so was the season of Vai Min Mur. Fiera had had a lot of fun so far, and a lot of not so fun, usually in the form of getting attacked by zombie hands in the mansion. Or being severely outclasses in the seasonal contests. But overall, it had been busy and satisfying, and she couldn't really ask for more, now could she? It had also been quite lucrative, if the various crystals she had found in the mansion were anything to go by. Now all she had to do was find some nice crystals in the mines as well! It wouldn't be hard, with her growing skill in mining and her small collection of mining equipment she had gathered by this point.

Of course, if she hadn't been mining all month, why had she come now? Well... Fiera had sharp ears. Two of them in fact, fuzzy and feline and perched on her head. And those ears were excellent at picking up interesting rumors. She had heard it through quite a big grapevine, a net of gossip cast wide over the city, that someone had found something interesting in the mines. What it was exactly she didn't know (and neither did anyone else that had heard the rumor for that matter), but she did know that she was going to find it. She was going to find so much of it that everyone else would choke on it. And she'd get crowned, uh, queen miner or something. Fiera wasn't really sure about that last part- she usually didn't have enough success in her ventures to get that far in her various fantasies.

Assisting her in her journeys was Marsha, an emerald gem dragon. Fiera glanced over at her now, running her eyes over the strange creature. She resembled a tiny dragon, but in the form of a statue crafted from glimmering stone. The illusion was shattered, if you'll excuse the pun, whenever she moved however, showing off just how alive she really was. She had found the creature on one of her earliest ventures into the mines, and she had stuck by Fiera's side ever since. Normally, the humanish would bring her jade gem wyrm, Viridia, but she had decided to give that wyrm a break. She had worked her to the point of exhaustion last time, after all. Anyway, Marsha seemed enthusiastic (as much as something like her could be), and had the added benefit of being able to fly, which would hopefully make it easier for her to traverse the more awkward parts of the mine.

And the trip was quite likely to be a little bit awkward. Fiera had realized that if the miner had only JUST found something completely new in the mines, then that meant that he had gone into a completely new branch. The established portions of the mine weren't likely to hold anything new for anyone, and only a fool would keep digging there if they were expecting to find anything other than the standard crystals. They were pretty, and valuable to boot no doubt, but they weren't anything NEW. Fiera would be happy to have them and would happily shove them in her minecart (which was currently bouncing happily over the rocky floor behind her), but she'd have her sights set a little higher today. For what though... she didn't know. Apparently nobody was even able to get so much as a glance of the new treasure of the mines before it was swept away.

Fiera came to a stop in a crossroads of sorts, considering her options. She could go down the same path that she had mined in before, but... while it had proven rich in crystals, it was quite shallow. She had never found anything 'special' in it so to speak, even if it had made her a lot of credits. She was trying to shirk the familiar today, after all. Then, she glanced down the other path. It was plain, without even a glimmer of implied crystals in the wall, but Fiera had never been down it before. For all she knew, it lead deep into the belly of the earth, down to where Fiera would presumably find... something. But... maybe she could keep working at her original tunnels? Try and mine a way all the way down there herself? She was left at an impasse, with no idea which way to try first.

Is this gold? An astute eye can reveal that it is indeed not gold. It is quite pretty, though!

A glimmer of light caught Fiera’s eye, distracting her from her ponderings. It lay in the path of the plainer tunnel with its drab brown shades, sticking out from a corner of the rocky floor. She leaned down to pick it up, with Marsha sniffing inquisitively behind her. It looked like gold... but Fiera knew better by this point. Fools gold was a common find out here in the mines, and Fiera had found a couple of chunks of it herself by now. Still, it could be worth a pretty penny if she turned it in to the right people. Fiera turned to her mining cart, popping it open. She nestled it in- hopefully the first treasure of many. She snapped the cart shut safely and turned around, tightening her grip on Marsha’s leash. The mining familiar seemed plenty happy with the find, and was ready to go.

Fiera supposed that decided it though, as she pondered the finding of the pyrite. She’d take it as a sign, an indicator of further fortunes to come if she selected the drabber path, with its grainy walls. With any luck, she’d find something interesting. Not that this place LOOKED particularly interesting. As far as she could tell, the walls were pure sedimentary stone. She ran her hand along it, feeling the compressed and concreted pebbles under her hand. It was well smoothed by this point, no doubt ground down and smoothed by hundreds of miners, which Fiera was now a part of. That probably meant that it was mined dry, too. She’d have to keep moving, searching until she found a place that was rougher, smaller, waiting to be carved out and plundered. The corner of her mouth quirked up into a smile- she could hardly wait to begin.

Marsha trotted along behind her happily. She was glad to have such a congenial assistant with her. Viridia, her gem wyrm, was much more difficult to control and stubborn. Marsha was downright loving in comparison so far, though Fiera wasn’t sure if “love” was something these creatures could feel. Still, she was trotting along quite politely. As Fiera went, the tunnel got slightly narrower, but she could still stand up straight in it. She wanted to get as deep as possible on this journey, and the pair of them were still plenty shallow in the earth. Fiera could even hear other miners in other parts of the cavern, listening to the clinking of pickaxes and thumps of hammers through the stone walls, and echoing through the halls. She wondered if they had found anything interesting yet, or if they were just starting out on their adventures like she was.

Soon, the path got even more dirty, covered in rubble and a layer of sand. That was good. The more unrefined, the fewer people who had come through here. Still, Fiera wanted to go deeper. This rubble was an indicator that people had been mining in here before- and had this plundered whatever this tunnel had to offer. Fiera let her feet keep plodding, but kept an eye on Marsha. Gem creatures were quite useful in sussing out valuable shinies, and hopefully Marsha was no exception. Still, if Marsha was smelling anything now, she didn’t show it, which only encouraged Fiera to keep going deeper into the earth, towards more fertile grounds. The ground swept down gently, taking Fiera even deeper into the earth, where hopefully she’d find something worth digging for. A lot of boulders were cropping up now, though, making Fiera have to swerve around them.

Although... perhaps these boulders could be worth something. After all, they were big enough that Fiera doubted anyone else had cut into them yet. She let her Minecart come to a stop, popping it open with her foot. Fiera rustled around in there before pulling out her trusty pick axe, holding it aloft. “Alright, lets get this started.” She said, ambling to a stop in front of one of the boulders. She hefted it up and Martha scuttled around her feet with anticipation. Then, Fiera brought it down, sending chips flying from the stone. It was soft- sand stone or silt stone or something like that, and so easily shattered. Fiera would have said it was like cutting through butter, but... it really wasn’t. Mining was never really easy, especially for someone with her stature. She was designed for looking pretty and going to nice parties, not breaking up rocks.

The outdoors had started getting chilly, cool breezes cutting across Fiera's cheeks. She was glad for the warmth of the caves, like breath up from the earth. As she trekked into the mines, she felt the warmth radiating up from the ground, bringing sensation back to her cheeks. And from within her jacket, a bit of movement came. She didn't have too long to mine today, but she had decided to take the opportunity to get to know her candy corn bat a bit better. She had owned Madison for a while now, but hadn't had the opportunity to spend too much time with her. But what a better place to get to know a bat than a cave! Thankfully, the creature was as sweet as her name implied, affectionate and kind. Fiera lifted a single finger to her cotton collar, petting the little head that poked out of it.

Madison didn't seem willing to come out of Fiera's shirt quite yet, clinging to her shoulders- the humanish could feel her little feet against her collarbone, still cold from the encroaching cold of winter. Fiera hadn't put her in there, of course- the little bat had crawled in herself, as a reaction to the cold. She supposed that it must be easy for a creature like her to get cold, especially with those large, thin wing membranes. Whereas regular bats had to just deal with it however, at least Madison had a long, fluffy tail to help her. Fiera was enjoying that now, with the soft fur pressed up against her neck. In case Madison decided to come out however, she had a thin lead wrapped around her neck, just to be safe. She didn't need the little creature running off on her, after all. Or flying off, as it was.
