The next trick Fiera had in mind was a sister trick to jump over. Instead of clearing a hurdle that had been set in front of them, she wanted Aces and Jack to be able to land on top of it, coming down without any effort, as if stepping on stage. Maybe her mental image was better than what could be done in reality, but she’d do her best to make sure that her love plush measured up. They had done quite well with the jumping tricks so far after all. Leap, jumping through a hoop, and jumping over a hurdle had been nigh effortless for them to learn. She supposed this was due in part to their natural energy, so hopefully this one wouldn’t be too different from the last three. Their springiness definitely came in handy, and their eagerness to please made training them fantastically easy for her.

For jump up, Fiera decided that the stumps she found last time would be easy. Even though they were just rough hewn chunks of tree, their tops and bottoms were flat, and they could be easily stacked. This made things quite easy for Fiera to adjust the height she wanted them to jump to- if she wanted them to go higher, all she had to do was add another log to the stack. They were quite heavy too (though she wasn’t entirely happy about that- she didn’t exactly have beefy arms), which meant that the stack was in little danger of falling over. Aces and Jack would have few problems with it. She stacked it up high enough to start with (about three logs high) that Aces and Jack would have trouble leaping entirely over, which would make it easy for her to get them to stay on top of it.

After she had finished stacking the logs (with Aces and Jack watching her like a tiny, mocking audience for her struggles), she took a moment to step back and appreciate her work, and, perhaps, to catch her breath. Once she was finished with that downtime however, it was time to get to work. She got out her little toy red flag- it made a fantastic lure to get Aces and Jack to go somewhere that would be inconvenient for Fiera to go herself. To show this, she waved it above the stack of logs. “Aces, Jack!” She said. “Look what I have!” Noticing their favorite toy, the two immediately wandered over, pawing at the logs and stretching up as if they could reach the flag from where they were. “Leap!” Fiera said to encourage them. “Go on! Leap! Jump up!” She continued. Aces sat back on their haunches, a look of determination in their eyes.

Jack watched Aces curiously as they backed up a bit. Then, the love plush made a running leap and, thanks to prior training when Fiera taught them leap, it was effortless for them to get up that high. Instead of jerking the flag away this time, Fiera kept it there, letting Aces land on the log and get a good grip on the flag. “Good jump up!” Fiera said, and let Aces play with the flag as a reward, growling playfully and tugging on it. Of course, Aces’ teeth were very… not sharp at all, and they had the strength expected of a plush toy, so the flag wasn’t liable to get harmed. Fiera glanced down as they played and saw Jack getting ready to jump, not one to be left out. “Oh, go on, Jack!” She said. “Jump up!” As if they already knew what Fiera meant, Jack jumped up, landing right next to Aces.

...Which didn’t leave a whole lot of room on the log, but Aces didn’t seem to mind. They batted at the flag for a bit before Fiera decided that that was enough and drew it back again. She half shooed, half carried them off the stack, settling them back on the ground again for another try. Sure enough, they were even more graceful the next time Fiera waved the flag above the stumps and telling them to jump up, jostling less for space than before and needing less prep time. Finally, Fiera decided to try it without the flag. She put it away in her coat, much to their distress (where had it gone? Had it stopped existing?), before snapping above the stumps to get their attention. “Ready, you two?” She said. “Jump up!” There was a second of silence before Fiera had to lean back as they both jumped onto the stump at once. A perfect- but surprising execution! She laughed, and decided she would take it.

Fiera was taking massive chunks out of her training list, and she was quite pleased about it. She had finished the majority of the tricks she wanted to train her love plush, Aces and Jack. If she had to go into the contest hall at that very moment, she wouldn’t be fully prepared, no, but she wouldn’t be left out in the cold. She’d be able to put on a good show, to show off her pets and her pride, but it wouldn’t be quite up to her standards. A middling performance, in her opinion. She had a great foundation of a routine, now she just needed to fill out the details. She looked at the checkboxes, seeing what she had left to do still. There were a couple of easy ones, but she decided to hone in on one of the harder ones, just to get it out of the way.

If all went well, this would be one of the major crowd pleasers as well. Everyone loved the sight of a pet in its owners arm, soaking up the love. And what better way of displaying that than combining it with a show of trust? Fiera was determined to teach her pets to literally do a trust fall- jumping from a height into the safety of her arms. It would require a lot of dexterity to be sure, and quick reflexes on Fiera’s part if it didn’t go quite as planned. Still, at least even if they DID fall, there wouldn’t be consequences for much other than Fiera’s reputation. Aces and Jack were called love plush for a reason- there was nothing in them but fluffy stuffing. Falling from a significant height wouldn’t hurt them in the slightest. At worst, they’d bounce a couple times and come out completely fine in the end.

Of course, a crowd would still be horrified to watch her fumble an animal onto the ground, no matter how immune it was to fall damage. This trick required as much training on Fiera’s part as it would Aces and Jacks’. One wrong move on her part could ruin the whole show! So, no pressure or anything. Still, Fiera wasn’t one to be easily dissuaded- or dissuaded at all, once she put her mind to something. So as far as she was concerned, there was no chance of failure at all, she’d just have to work hard enough for it. With that in mind, she cracked her knuckles and approached the log pile. It was just as tall as before, from when she was teaching Aces and Jack to hop up on it. She hefted up another log slice however, and was just barely able to shove that on there as well.

Now the pile was taller than she was- impossible for her pets to get on and off of on their own- or at least not without help. The idea she had was to put Aces and Jack up on the pile, and then order them to come and leap- whichever worked best. Then, she’d hold her arms out and give the command for this trick. Seeing no other option to get down safely other than the platform her arms provided, they’d have no choice but to jump into her arms. Once they saw that it was safe, they’d be more and more willing to hop down, and she’d be able to open her arms wider, as if inviting them to come in for a hug. Now the only element she was missing was the actual pets. She glanced around for Aces and Jack, and saw them playing around the tree where she had set her bag down.

“Aces, Jack!” She called. “Come here, guys!” They looked up and bounced through the grass, a blur of pink, red, and white. Soon she was practically bowled over by them- turns out they could pack quite a punch when at full speed! She chuckled a bit and put her arms down, petting them as they raced around her calves. “Ok guys, let’s settle down. Come on, one of you come here.” Her fingers snatched at nothing but thin air for a while, but eventually she was able to snatch up Aces. They wiggled happily in her hands, licking any appendage they could reach affectionately. She chuckled, but still moved to put them up on the tower of logs. They settled down, and Fiera waggled a finger at them. “Now, stay.” She said, and Aces sat down, but soon leaned over nervously. Jack looked up at them and meowed, slightly distressed.

Fiera was quick to reunite the pair however, taking the opportunity to snatch up Jack and set them next to Aces on the log tower. The pair looked off of it nervously. They might not get hurt when falling, but they certainly didn’t know that. She just hoped they were loyal enough to not hold this against her. She then extended her arms, holding them palms up but together, as if cupping water out of a faucet. The shape her arms made was about as wide and flat a platform as she could make- she’d work on making this look more elegant later. “Ok… come!” She said happily. The pair looked at each other. “Leap!” She repeated. Jack moved to jump… but didn’t actually leave the log pile. Fiera wiggled her fingers in a distinct scritchy motion. They both wiggled even more, torn between going to her and staying safe.

“It’s ok!” She said reassuringly. “Come!” Finally, Aces took the first leap- or more went to, changed their mind, but had already unbalanced themself enough to fall right off the log tower. This was her chance! Fiera lunged forward, and caught Aces halfway down the tower. She held them close, rubbing their head as they wailed with shock. “It’s ok! Good job! Good, uh…” She trailed off, trying to think of a command for this trick. “Good...arms? Good arms, Aces!” Soon, Aces had stopped sniffling as Fiera repeated “good job” and “arms”. When they seemed calm enough, she put them back down on the ground before turning to Jack. “See? It’s easy! Come on, Jack! Arms!” She said, holding her arms back out in position. Jack paced back and forth on the log, but Aces started barking, as if to urge them on. Fiera appreciated the extra motivation as Jack leapt a few moments later.

As Jack fell through the air (a lot more gracefully than Aces, though she supposed that was due to Jack resembling a cat), Fiera reached out to snatch them. Jack looked up at her with surprise while she praised them, as if amazed that they hadn’t hit the ground. Soon a purring erupted from their chest. Fiera chuckled. “See? That wasn’t so bad, now was it?” She said. Jack only rubbed their head under her chin and purred. She tolerated it for a moment before reuniting the love plushies with each other. Then, she clapped her hands and picked them both up again, ready to try the trick once more. This time, they seemed a lot less nervous, sitting on the log pile. Fiera held her arms out in the platform position again. “Ok guys...come! Arms!” Jack went first instead of Aces this time, pushing to the front.

Jack bunched themself up, and then jumped off the pile, with a lot more confidence this time. The added distance meant that Fiera didn’t need to lunge to catch them either- they landed safely in her arms all on their own. Fiera cuddled them up, feeling the purrs deep in her chest before letting them down again. When she got back in catching position, she only hardly needed to say “arms” before Aces fell into her arms. She took a moment to treat them with praise before letting them down with their buddy. She took a moment to feel rather proud of herself. They had picked that up quickly! She supposed it wasn’t too difficult though- they were awfully trusting to start with. Still, all she had to do now was get them to jump into her arms regardless of their position, so she could make it all look more natural.

She scooped them both up again and by this point, they both found the action highly amusing. When she placed them back up on the log stack, standing on her tip toes, she had to say “Stay” to keep them from both immediately jumping off again. Couldn’t get the truck down if they didn’t want to hold still long enough for her to set it up! She backed away a bit again, and this time held her arms wide, like you would when going in for a hug with a long lost friend. “Ok guys...Arms!” She said once she was grounded and ready. The pair looked at each other, as if deciding which one would go first. Then, Aces bundled themself up and jumped forward, with no guarantee of a platform under foot. Despite that, Fiera didn’t break her promise, and when Aces hit her chest, she quickly wrapped her arms around them. Then, without her expecting it, Jack followed, and Fiera somehow managed to catch them both at the same time. Fiera stood there in shock for a moment, then laughed- she guessed they really did trust her!
