Once he drew close however, the fragrance of the fruit was quick to reach his nose. His ears flicked up, and he walked a little faster, always eager for more food. Fiera gestured up the tree. "Desert, up!" She said, introducing the new command. With any luck, he'd pick this one up quickly. She kept repeating the word "up" as he examined the tree... up until he backed up and pawed at the ground, clearly getting ready to headbutt it. "No!" Fiera said, quick to clarify. "Don't do that!" Desert paused... and put his foot back down. To encourage him to do this correctly, Fiera scrambled back up the tree, quickly reaching the branch filled with fruit. "Desert, up!" She reiterated, and grabbed one of the apples. She leaned down and offered it to him, just barely out of his reach. He sniffed at it loudly, but it was still a couple feet away.

Finally, Desert slowly and hesitantly reached his foot forward and placed it on the trunk of the tree. "Good boy! Keep going! Up!" Fiera praised, and Desert placed his other foot on, slightly higher. Then, he crept his back legs forward until he was in the exact position Fiera wanted him in. She happily dropped the apple into his waiting mouth, and showered him in praise. "Atta boy! Good up!" She laughed. He retreated down, chewing his prize thoughtfully. Fiera sighed with relief. Getting a pet to display that initial behavior was always the hardest part, she had found. From here though, it should be easier to get him to repeat it. Fiera hopped down from the tree, ready to try again without having to literally handfeed Desert his training. She pointed back up at the fruit stash, and he followed her finger with his eyes. "Desert, up!" She demanded.

More eager and confident this time, Desert happily placed his front feet on the tree bark, and then walked forward and stretched up the rest of the way. This time, he was able to nudge the branches that the fruit was stuck between, knocking some of it into his waiting mouth, and the rest onto the ground. "Good boy Desert, good up!" Fiera said, clapping, and let Desert claim his treat. He was quick to finish off the fruit stuck in the branches, as Fiera could hear him crunching loudly even if she couldn't see his head stuck in the leaves. Then, he came back down to finish off the fruit left on the ground. Fiera was thrilled, of course. He had gotten down the basic action of the trick. Now she just had to get him to rear up onto his hind legs out in the open, as planned.

She backed away into the main clearing, and grabbed a stick she saw on the ground. It was pretty long- about six and a half feet- and had a sharp end on it. That would do. While Desert was distracted, she took an apple from the bag and did her best to spear it onto the end of the stick. It was messy, but hopefully it would work. Then, she came into the clearing's dead center. "Desert!" She called. "Come!" The thundergug looked up, crunching the last of the apples from the tree, and walked over dutifully. As he approached, she raised the stick into the air- well above his head. "Up!" She commanded, gesturing at the apple. He flicked his ears... and went to put his front foot on Fiera's stomach. "No!" She was quick to scold- she didn't need any broken bones from a thundergug trying to climb her today.

Desert put his foot back down and snorted with frustration. "Up!" Fiera reiterated, again pointing at the apple. He looked at it and pawed in the air, as if hoping he could pull it down with psychic powers. He wasn't a faeron though, so he'd have to figure this out on his own. Fiera sighed, and decided to help him out again. She lowered the branch slightly, bringing it closer to Desert. He sniffed at it, but just as he was about to bite it, she raised it further into the air. He stretched further after it. Again, when he was about to grab it, she moved it again. Eventually, he stretched further and further after it until he had no choice but to stand up. "Good boy, Desert! Good up!" She said happily as he reached the height of his stance, grabbed the apple off the branch, and crashed to the ground once more.

The thundergug seemed quite pleased with himself, chewing happily on his treat. Fiera was perfectly eager to keep the good times rolling, and quickly grabbed another. She'd use the stick again if she had to, but... for now, she wanted to see if he could stand up on his own. "Desert... up!" She said once he had finished eating. Desert looked around, as if trying to find a treat. She quickly flashed the apple from behind her back. "Go on, up!" She reiterated. He made a grumbling noise deep in his throat, but started moving regardless. First he crouched down, as if building up strength, and then reared up, teetering on his hind legs. Fiera cheered, and tossed him the apple. He deftly caught it in his mouth, and came back down to the ground. Fiera was quick to give him plenty of pats too- who ever said a thundergug couldn't be fancy?

Fiera checked her phone. It wasn't as late in the day as she thought. She wanted to get out of here before the sun was at its peak, making it too hot for her to stand, but so far she was doing pretty alright in the shade of the trees in the clearing they were in. She had time to teach Desert one more trick before they left, so long as it was a simple one. She mulled it over for a minute. She wanted to join the contest coming up soon, so she wanted it to be somewhat fancy, but knowing more utilitarian tricks didn't hurt. Was there something that could be a combination of the two...? She snapped her fingers, and she got an expression on her face like a lightbulb just went off over her head. She knew just what to do. "Desert!" She called. "Come here!"

The thundergug looked up, and made his way over without any sort of urgency. He knew the drill by this point. He would go on over to Fiera, she’d bother him relentlessly until he did something, she’d give him a treat (hopefully apples- he loved those.) once he did the right thing, repeat ad nauseum. He was getting pretty tired of this for the day though, and hoped that this was the last time she’d bother him. Fiera waited until he was in front of her before she came up and put some pressure on his crest. “Desert, bow.” She said, pressing down. Her hope was that the pressure she was putting on him would cause enough discomfort (but not pain) that he’d duck down to relieve it- thus completing the trick. From there, she’d give him a treat and repeat until he finally got the picture.

He pulled away a lot more quickly than she was expecting however, and ducked down and out of the way without bowing. Fiera huffed, and tossed him only a little bit of carrot. They’d just have to keep trying. Once he was done eating (which was very fast), she pushed down again, one hand on his shoulders and the other on his frill. “Desert, bow.” She repeated, and he grumbled. He didn’t pull away however, and seemed to tolerate the pressure more, dipping slowly. After a certain distance dropped though, he started getting antsy again, shuffling his feet, and Fiera backed off before he could pull away completely. “Good boy, Desert!” She said just happy to be making progress, feeding him a bit more carrot. He chewed it up thoughtfully, eyeing his owner. She went right back to it after he finished, and the savannah thundergug kept looking at her warily.

She placed her hands on him one more time. “Desert, bow.” She said again, hopeful about the progress being made. This time, the ‘gug dipped even further, with even less pressure needed than before. She was so close! She applied just a little more pressure and before she knew it, Desert was bowing. Front feet were carefully tucked under him, head down, with the stance of the back legs in a fully intact standing position. A perfect bow. She backed away. “Stay...” she guided, letting him get used to the feeling of doing it without her hands there for guidance. He stayed like that, frozen in place for a moment before Fiera clapped, breaking his focus. “Good boy, Desert! Good bow!” She cheered, and rustled through her bag. He stuck his head over her shoulder as she dug out not one, but two carrots, feeding them to his waiting mouth.

Desert happily crunched through the carrots, pleased with his progress as much as Fiera was, if just for the treats he got if not the trick he was learning. This time, Fiera kept her hands off, and stayed a few feet away from Desert. She whistled to get his attention, and then gave the command. “Bow!” She said confidently. Sure enough, the thundergug’s head dipped down first, followed by his front legs folding in under him, his tail sticking out to compensate for the change in balance. She held her breath for a minute, ready to pop with excitement, but wanting to make sure he got the trick down. After several precious seconds slipped by, Fiera released him. “Good boy, good bow!” She said happily, giving him a round of applause. Desert sprung up again, and Fiera was sure to give him some very nice scratches behind the ears.

An adventure in the mansion... hadn't quite turned out how Fiera wanted. She had been just about to push open the mansion's gates with two of her elemental golem in tow, only for her phone to go off. A brief, panicked conversation with her landlord later, and it turned out her apartment had flooded. Great. No damage had been done to her things, but needless to say, she had some spare time to hang out with her golems now. She didn't want to go back to the mansion, however. The dilapidated place was drenched in magic, which she had felt on several occasions now- needless to say, she had no clue how that affected phone signals. Even if she WAS able to get a call with an update on her apartment though, she didn't want to be stuck in a part of the mansion that would prove tricky or time consuming to escape from before leaving the property. She was pretty much on call. As a result, the humanish dragged herself and her golems to the public park for a bit of bonding time. Or at least, as much of a bond as she could form with these robotic creatures.

Fiera carefully opened her bag, revealing four tiny lights glowing back up at her. As expected, with no stimulation, they didn't really go anywhere. The humanish gently fished them out. She plopped the two of them down in the grass, one red and one blue. Fiera knew that the more time was spent with these creatures, the bigger they'd get. Well, they were both pretty tiny right now. Both were no bigger than her hand, and would likely disappear completely if the grass was any taller than it was. She leaned back onto a large boulder, and let them get their bearings and explore the area. They didn't seem distressed in the slightest about the sudden change of location, but that seemed to be normal for elemental golems. Instead, Luverik used their tiny tentacles to gently smooth down the grass around them, as if making little crop circles. Niko on the other hand, seemed to pick a direction and started wandering in it. Fiera knew she'd have to go after it eventually. They weren't trained after all, so giving them commands wouldn't work. Still, Niko's pace was slow and his body was tiny, so that wasn't really something she'd have to worry about right now.

For the time being, she was interested in Luverik, who was smoothing down grass. She had seen this a little bit in her other golems. It was slow and methodical, like most things these creatures did, and he slowly spiraled out from his starting point, making a circle that grew increasingly larger. She chuckled, and couldn't help but be reminded of 'crop circles', like aliens supposedly made. She supposed these critters were alien enough. Their psychology was plenty different after all, and they had the big, buggy eyes now didn't they? He seemed perfectly content doing it, even though he hadn't been ordered to or had no real reason to be doing so. She supposed it was just a 'default' action that was programmed into them in the absence of stimuli. Niko on the other head, was making quite the getaway. He was nearly five feet away from her now! Fiera got up, and made her way over to him. They both paused for a minute as she moved, but soon went back to their respective tasks. She gently nudged the fire elemental golem with her foot. "Go on, turn." She said. "Turn!" She didn't want to push him too hard- if just for the sake of her shoes.

Niko had a fiery body after all, and while it somehow didn't burn her when she handled him, other materials weren't quite as lucky. She had had to find some heatproof fabric to wrap him in before putting him in her bag, and she was sure those candy bars she had put in with him were melted by now. He responded well to the gentle nudging however, and slowly rotated his body with his tentacles. Once he was situated, he took off in the opposite direction, back toward the stone Fiera had been sitting on. Fiera herself went back to that rock, and plopped herself down while waiting for him to make his way back. He flailed his little limbs- legs? Tentacles? Madly, but without any real effort or progress being made. It was a weird way of getting around, to be sure. Fiera took out her phone, bored and ready to play some games, when she noticed a text from her land lord. She held her breath for a moment- and sighed with relief. She could go back to her apartment now. "Come on guys!" She said, moving to pluck them out of the grass. "We can all go home!"
