Fiera happily checked another trick off the list. They were making good progress, but there was still a long way to go. The basics weren't going to teach themselves! Now that Aces and Jack knew how to... contain themselves a bit more, Fiera was ready to move on. She had a couple more basic obedience tricks she needed them to know before they could move onto the really fancy stuff. One was more controlled, the other allowed a bit more energy. She glanced at the two of them. After teaching them the meaning of the word no, they seemed fit to pop with exciteability. The humanish supposed that she could allow them to let loose a bit. With that in mind, she decided that it was time to teach them 'come'. She walked over to a nearby tree- the only one for hundreds of feet- and set down her bag, ready to begin.

As expected, Aces and Jack were playing with each other. When didn't they? Fiera didn't know much about love plushes, but judging from the name and the season they were associated with, she knew they didn't do much other than play with each other. Hopefully she'd be able to use that to her advantage- getting them to work in sync to pull off fancy tricks. For the time being however, she would settle for simple loyalty and obedience. High flying stunts would have to come later. The dropping of her bag, however, at least seemed to get their attention a bit, and they came tumbling over next to her feet. Fiera's lip quirked up- they were coming already! Now if only she could get them to do that on command. She leaned down, and grabbed a pebble off the ground, holding it up. Honestly, she could have picked anything, but this would work.

Her pet followed her eyes as she lifted the little rock up- and they fell upon it as she dropped it. They tumbled over and over each other, batting the rock around and playing. Fiera chuckled- it was too easy to distract those knuckleheads. In most cases, that would be a problem, but in this case it was exactly what she wanted. Fiera took the opportunity provided by their adorable distraction to sidle off, getting some distance on them without their noticing. Once she was about fifteen feet away, she cupped her hands around her mouth. "Jack, Aces!" She called gently. They wheeled about, searching for the source of their names. She couldn't help but smile at the reaction. "Over here!" She called again as a suggestion. Finally, they spotted her, their baby blue eyes locked on her from over a dozen feet away. "Ok guys, come!" She commanded gently.

The two looked at her curiously, and then went back to playing with the rock. Ah. That wasn't the reaction she was expecting- she thought they'd come rushing over, and it would be an easy behavior to reinforce. Still, try try again. "Jack, Aces! Come!" She reiterated, succeeded in at least getting the cat, Jack's, attention. She followed up her statement with a distinctive hand motion that indicated 'scritches'. Jack's ears perked up, and they trotted over, tail held up in a candy cane loop characteristic of a happy cat. Aces played by themself for a couple seconds longer before realizing their playmate was elsewhere. Upon realizing it, Aces quickly closed the distance between the two, rubbing up alongside Jack. Fiera smiled as the two of them made their way over to her, sitting happily at her feet. "Good job, guys! Good come!" She praised, and they were more than happy to accept physical affection as a reward.

Now she just needed to add some repetition to the mix. They seemed to pick up on the basic concept well enough- it was just a matter of hammering in the point. Once her pet was sufficiently entertained, Fiera snatched up a fistful of grass. She sprinkled it above their heads to distract them again, and backed up toward the tree once more. Once she reached it, she looked back at where she left them, seeing the grass rustle accordingly. She cupped her hands to her mouth once more. "Aces, Jack!" She called. "Come!" She listened for the distinct sound of approaching puppies and kitties- and sure enough, the rustling grass got closer and closer. Soon, two pink forms skipped out from the grass. Fiera met them with open arms and compliments for their amazing skills. A few more times, and they had it down to a fun game- one that Fiera was thoroughly enjoying.

Fiera was down to her last 'default' trick. She was quite proud of the progress the pair of them had made today. Maybe it was the weather (pleasantly cool and balmy), maybe it was the location (free of other trainers, beautiful to look at), but either way she felt truly inspired today. She clapped her hands together, not to be outdone- she was determined to see how much she could get through today! Her love plush seemed to be just as eager as well- if Aces and Jack were tired, they certainly didn't show it. Jack and Aces were just as enthusiastic as ever, and certainly happy to be getting the attention she was providing. They had been cooped up for far too long, and Fiera was happy to make use of them. Unfortunately, their boundless energy wouldn't be needed this time around- they had moved onto the trick 'stay'.

This one would prove to be a little tricky, she thought. Holding still wasn't exactly something that these two... did to say the least, and Fiera only had so many options here. Thankfully, her training bag provided a solution- two (soft) ropes, long enough to give them some leeway, short enough to keep them from moving around too much, and soft enough to keep the pair from hurting themselves. It had proved ideal for all her other pets, and she was hoping it would work here as well. She whistled for them sweetly and followed it up with "Aces, Jack, come!" As expected (and as freshly trained), the pair came bounding over, eager as ever. Fiera almost felt bad about 'tricking' them like this... but also, she honestly didn't. Learning was learning, and it wasn't like there would be any long lasting consequences. Other than knowing how to stay, of course.

As Aces and Jack drew closer, she tied a couple of rough loops in the rope, and knotted the other end around a pulled up tree root. Perfect. The loops she had made were tight enough to hold them, but loose enough to let them breathe. Hopefully, at least. These two were made out of stuffing and fluff- as a result, their bodies had a lot of give to them, and she supposed they could wiggle out if they really, really wanted to. Fingers crossed that wasn't the case. Once those were tied, she placed them around her love plushes' necks. They hardly seemed bothered by the action, regarding it as casually as any other physical contact. These two really didn't have any sense of self preservation, did they? Still, once the loops were on, she stood up and backed away. The two plushes immediately moved as if to follow.

As expected, their movements were cut short by the loops of rope, holding them fast to the tree root. "Stay." Fiera said firmly the moment they ran out of slack. They seemed confused at first, wondering why their forward momentum had been halted, but soon noticed the ropes. "Stay." Fiera said again, and kept backing away. They looked at her, yipping and meowing, but she left them to their own devices while repeating the command. Once she was sure they had heard the word enough times, she approached again. "That's it! Good stay!" She said in a more cutesy tone of voice, giving them careful pats on the head. They were overjoyed to see her return, but soon returned to their wailing as she withdrew again. "It's ok!" She said, resuming her retreat. "Stay!" She said again. Aces sat down at least at that, and Jack soon looked over and followed suit.

Fiera was very happy about that reaction, and was quick to come back over and praise them for it- their 'treat' seeing as they didn't need to eat anything. They were, of course, happy to have it, and it seemed to make them more interested and receptive to learning. A win win situation overall. In fact, Fiera was so convinced that they were getting the hang of it, that she took the loops off of their neck and decided to give them a try without anything holding them back. She stood up once the ropes were removed, though they seemed to notice the ropes' removal as much as they did their addition- which is to say not at all. "Stay." She said, pointing at the two of them. Then, she went to back up, watching them carefully. They fidgeted and flicked their tails, but to their credit and her joy, they did not move. Once she got far enough back, she let her serious facade break- "Ok guys, good job. You can come here now." And sure enough, they did.

The cat woman checked another trick off her list- that was all of the basic obedience tricks done! Granted, there were a couple of others she could do, but that could come later. Now it was time to try something a little different, something more specialized for the goal they were working toward. Aces and Jack peered over her shoulder carefully as she leaned over to dig through her bag. She was looking for a specific training tool- something distinctive and eye catching to get this next trick to work. She wanted to teach her pets not just to come when called, but to follow her when requested. The next contest was an agility based one, so it would do her well to have pets that could keep up with her pace. She could work on training them to follow specific courses and do various bits of fancy footwork later. This was the first step toward that goal.

Finally, she found it- a bright red little pennant-like flag, on a long metal stick. It reminded her of the sort you stuck in the ground to indicate where electrical wires were under the earth, or the kind that you'd wave in parades or at sports games. Cheap, friendly, and replaceable. She had plans for using it in future tricks, but in this case, it would help in getting her pets' attention and keeping it there. Even now, Aces and Jack seemed to be hypnotized, watching as it waved gently in the breeze. When Fiera stood up, so did they. Oh, this would be fun, she could tell already. She moved it left- their eyes followed it left. She moved it right- their eyes followed her right. She began to back up gently. "Ok guys- come!" She said, holding the flag near the ground. They trotted after it in perfect unison, entranced by the pretty new toy.

As they moved however, Fiera didn't stop- there was no set 'end point' to this 'come'. Instead, she began giving a new command. "That's it, follow!" She said, continuing to walk. Eventually, she stopped walking backwards after nearly tripping for a third time, and began walking normally, but holding the flag behind her to maintain their attention. "Follow!" She repeated as she moved, making sure that the word was connected with the action. At first, their progress was start-stop, with Aces and Jack thinking they were 'done' and slowing to a stop. Fiera would praise them each time they went for longer and longer, but started up again quickly, repeating 'follow' instead of 'come', and not holding still long enough for them to stop completely. She was sure she must have been quite the sight, walking through the field with a miniature parade of adorable pets behind her, happily following her band leader's pennant.

Soon, they seemed to have the basic idea, happily trotting along behind Fiera's long tail every time she asked them to follow. The flag seemed to be doing its job well- Fiera never needed to do much more than waggle it around to recapture the pair's attention when it started to, well. Flag. A quick wiggle, and they'd be running after her again, trying to catch it. She frowned a bit to herself, though. While they were doing well with the flag, the real test would be whether or not they would follow her without it. They were, granted, rather immature so it was possible they wouldn't... but she wouldn't always have a flag on her to get their attention. So, Fiera started making her way back to the tree, telling them to keep following at regular intervals in preparation for putting the flag away.

Once she reached the tree, she immediately made a beeline for her bag. Jack and Aces crowded around her as she opened it, nipping at the flag as she put it away. Once she closed it however, that was it. No more flag. They sniffed at the bag for a moment, pawing at it, wondering where their new 'friend' went... before decided it didn't matter that much and going back to playing. She cleared her throat, and started backing away again. "Follow!" She called sweetly, waving at them. They looked at each other briefly, curious. Then, they looked back at Fiera. She felt a bead of sweat roll down her neck. "...Follow!" She reiterated. Then, they took a step forward. Then another. As they did that, Fiera took more steps back. Soon, she wondered why she was ever worried- they were more than happy to follow her, walking through the fields of the park.
