People could go work a nine to five in an office; she could work twelve hours on and twelve off down here. Maybe not even take the time off. What did she do at home? Just relax, guard the estate. She wasn't too social of a gargoyle, and honestly Ashe didn't know much about the species. He knew that most miners these days had one of these, or a gem dragon of some sort, but it was usually solitary, it wasn't like anyone was taking groups of gargoyles down here, or finding gargoyles in groups down here. He could only assume she was content, because he felt like he would just know if she wasn't. She'd act different, surely.
Back up with him and Inyala, Ashe started humming. Inyala looked at him sharply, not sure what the sound was, then realizing it was him just making bored human sounds. It almost sounded like he was trying to talk to her and was unable; that had been concerning because she tended to understand him, whatever he was saying, at this point. And to lose that would have been terrible. But no, he was just humming a little tune to distract himself. Poor bored human, life just kind of dragged for them, didn't it?

There was a lovely vein of serpentine nearby, as well as a much more regular, bluer gem as well.

There was a glint of something that caught his eye and he started to focus on that, something greenish that wasn’t seen that often. He picked gently around it, then used his smaller tools to extract it. Inyala watched him closely, helping whenever she could in any way that she could, until he finally pulled out a chunk of it. He held it up to the light on his helmet and turned it around in his fingers. It would need some cleaning up and some polishing but this was a decent chunk of Serpentine, if he’d ever seen one! ”This is Serpentine,” He told his faithful helper. Inyala looked at it, and he handed it to her for closer inspection. When she was done, he took it back and pocketed it, until he could get back to the crate he dragged along with him. They continued digging up there, while Brazin continued down below. She was slow and methodical, to the point where Ashe could probably have timed the sounds of her digging. Slow and steady tended to win the races, so Ashe didn’t tell her to change her ways or anything. The each had the same mission, just different modes of achieving it. So far, they were both productive, so he couldn’t complain.

That thought, he did wish she could use her magic to just...find what he wanted to find. It was always crystals, wasn’t it? Ashe wanted more and more crystals, he wanted more power and more magic. He would stop at nothing to get it. Right now, he was gunning for some of those chaotic nodes, that magic sounded fascinating and he wanted to try his hand at some casting. But if he ended up with Tainted crystals for another shadow node? He would never complain. If he could do this much, reviving a friend like this, then imagine what he could do with even more? Maybe he could recover his memory next. Maybe he could go find something else equally as stunning to do! This is what got him up and going, when it came to the mines. Did anyone actually like being under ground, where cave ins could happen at any time? He sure didn’t.
After a few more minutes, that felt like forever when there was nothing going on and the excitement from finding something was waning, Ashe and Inyala climbed back down from their perch to join Brazin back down on the lower level. It was odd to think of things in these terms, instead of ‘on the ground’. Ground was far above them!

Brazin continued to work, picking around at rocks and plucking them from their place in the wall. She was working on a bubble shaped hole in the wall, going deeper and making it oblong instead of the straighter path formed naturally. Her hind legs scooted forward every fifty claw digs or so, and sometimes she scrambled to find good footing if the loose rocks gathered under her feet too much. But she was managing, and she barely seemed to notice much else. Ashe gazed at her, the light on his head following her movements. He wondered if she was thinking to herself, or if she ever talked to herself. He hoped he would be able to hear and understand if she did, but she might just be really focused.
Ashe and Inyala decided to go try their luck a little further down the tunnel. They walked together, not getting too far away that he could no longer hear Brazin's movements. It was reassuring to know that he wasn't alone down here, that a third party was with them. And this third party didn't need to be watched like a child because she knew the ways of the mines better than he could ever hope to understand. He lifted his pickaxe and brought it down.

With the sounds of Brazin's soft digging going on down the corridor, Ashe's louder rocky clangs of the pick-axe bouncing off the wall, and Inyala's soft scrabbles as she searched through the rocks that fell down: it was getting to be a little noisy around these parts! Not that Ashe thought that was a bad thing, exactly. The gems he was looking for wouldn't be running away or disappearing just because of the noise volume going on outside their rocky tomb. Sure, other less fun things might be scrabbling to attack, thinking that their home was under attack from some terrible outside visitor, but Ashe was confident he could combat these things if push came to shove. If Brazin couldn't fly over, grab them, and drop them from a height, then he could blast them with some of his magic.
Ah, magic... As he mined in his own space, he let his mind wander about the glory of it all, the power of his magic. He could bring up the dead, he could use water, he could catch himself if he fell with air, he could... There were endless possibilities! And he was always on the lookout to get some more. Right now, he was on the lookout for crystals.

The problem when it came to magic, however, was the fact that he would never have enough of it. It was past an opinion, past an observation, and straight into the 'just stating the facts' category. He might not even use all the mana he had at his disposal, but simply having it made him feel good. Not only could he attack, not only could he pillage and take what he wanted, not only could he be admired and looked up to, but he could also protect and help his loved ones. There were times where he hadn't been able to help Vix, and times he'd tried but physically failed. He couldn't stand failure. Just thinking about it made him bring the ax down a little bit harder than intended, and it got stuck in the rock wall. He wiggled and pulled, trying to get it free, and he finally got it but he stumbled backward a step or two. Damn. "Guess I won't think about failing," he muttered to himself.
Inyala looked up at him in alarm, then made a sound of question, wanting to be sure her master hadn't just hurt himself. Even though she hadn't felt anything.
"Nothing, it's nothing. Just talking to myself," He assured her with a wave of the hand.

It looks like your love for magic has paid off as you detect a now-familiar thrumming coming from an outcrop nearby...

The soft scratching and digging of Brazin’s claws were still audible, but it semed to fade away. As she pulled away rocks and they tumbled down, the sounds became quieter, though the slight vibration in the ground of chunks of rock hitting it still reverberated; Ashe’s attention was floating away. Something was calling him, something that he’d felt many times before. Each time, it seemed like there was a stronger tug, showing him more accurately where he should go. It was like he leveled up this skill each time he used it, and he’d been using it a lot!
There was a magical crystal of some sort around here.
”Feel that, Inyala?” He asked his Imp. The little blue helper looked up at him, snapping to attention. She obviously hadn’t felt it, since it was his skill, but his excitement flowed through her as if it was her own personally. She didn’t know what excited him, though she probably could make an educated guess, but she knew he was thrilled and about to find something really cool. She gave him a look that said she was interested, but had no answer, and Ashe nodded, confirming her thoughts. ”I think there’s a magical crystal somewhere near here! Wonder which element…”

Brazin glanced up as Ashe started to wander further away. He never much considered her when it came to magic, even though he had bestowed upon her one of the most powerful of all the crystals. A prismatic crystal. With the crystal currently energizing her, Ashe would be able to make a node right this moment. But because it was her, was a part of her, now and he couldn’t just take it back. But because of her magic, she was a little in tune with the magic of the crystals herself. But it was harder to zoom in on the exact location. She didn’t have the same awareness Ashe did, so she could feel that there was something in the mine shaft somewhere… But not where.
And Ashe was walking further down the corridor now, a way they hadn’t explored yet. It seemed to him that when he and Inyala had started to walk this way a few minutes ago, he must have stepped within range and he was able to pick up on the faint magical pull. Inyala scurried alongside Ashe, going from scampering around his feet to climbing the wall, going over rocks. Not much got in her way when it came to staying with her master.

Brazin was starting to get a little disturbed by how far her crew were getting without her. She scowled slightly, digging her claws in a little deeper, pulling more rock out of the hole she was gauging into the side of the wall. If she didn’t find anything soon, she would have to give up and go follow them and make sure they didn’t get into trouble. She felt like she had to take care of them, her people, make sure they didn’t get hurt or lost. She was a gargoyle, slightly different from more regular pets, so she showed few, if any at all, of the typical signs of affection toward her human. But she really was quite fond of him…
Even if he was a rash headstrong idiot that ran off on a whim because he thought of something else. Inyala climbed along the walls as the tunnel started to narrow. The feeling was getting stronger for Ashe now, and his speed was increasing because of it. He rounded a bend and came to a complete halt. The light that was attached to the top of his helmet bounced around and them froze. He stared ahead, down the tunnel that disappeared around another curve in the bend, and tried to pinpoint.

Since he was here, so close, the pull was that much stronger so it didn’t take Ashe too long to find the right wall. He pressed his hand against the wall and felt around until he found just the right spot. Then he picked up his pick from where he had it looped through a belt loop that he had just for carrying tools; he touched the tip to the wall, locating the spot. He pulled his arm back and brought it down. Over and over, digging and cutting through the rock, breaking it up and sending it tumbling down to the ground and glancing down there every so often to make sure he didn’t pass up other cool stuff on the way to the magical gem. He knew it had to be around here somewhere, it wasn’t going to just call out to him and move away. Inyala did her best to, while dodging falling rocks, sort through the mess Ashe was making on the floor, looking for anything cool that might be passed over.
Brazin decided to go after her companions. With reluctance, she left her dig site and walked along, slower and not in a rush because she was confident she could find him before he got too terribly lost.

Brazin walked along, keeping her head up and eyes alert, in case she saw anything sticking out in the darkness that might be worth grabbing along the way. Sometimes natural phenomenon wore away at the rock and such, wearing it all down until something was revealed. Of course, people had passed through here more often than nature could, so that only added to the possibility that something got over looked somewhere. While she glowed slightly and she was able to navigate in the darkness with ease, she wasn’t able to pick out that rock from that rock, unless it was obvious. So she was still empty clawed when she rounded the bend and approached Ashe.
Ashe, on the other hand, felt a burst of energy, as he unearthed the magical crystal. Then it died down to a hum, satisfied that it had been found. Ashe plucked it free from its cage, looked at it with glee, and pocketed it securely. This was what he was there for, this was what he spent all his time down here for! ”I think I only need one more, Inyala!” He told her triumphantly. The Imp showed her excitement by scaling the wall and leaping to his shoulder, feeling just as happy as her master.

As wonderful as finding that crystal was, unfortunately Ashe didn't feel the presence of any other crystal in the area. That didn't mean there weren't any more down here today, just not close enough for him to pick up on. He patted his pocket, feeling optimistic and content, and decided he might as well poke around some more since he was already here. As he did, he noticed the light from his head lamp was bouncing off of a rock a little oddly, something was different in the texture here. He leaned in closer but all he saw was some brown rock mixed in with the gray shale. He thought about skipping it, it definitely wasnt a gemstone or a crystal of any sort, but something made him take a pause and consider it. Something nagging at the back of his mind. So, with a sigh, he set to working on it. Inyala watched him with curiosity, not seeing anything worthwhile, yet observing him making the attempt.
Brazin was catching up to him now, she saw him and knew what he had done, what he had gained. He could feel it thrumming though not as powerful as Ashe could. She could hear it in the way all gems sang for her.
