It seemed as if, having established the basics before, they were now free to refine their skills, and even Azalea was managing well enough now. She was finding out through trial and error as much as anything how to best stay quiet enough that Nightshade wouldn’t detect her before she struck. And Nightshade had already been well on his way to stalking well; it was now almost impossible to see him just so long as there was enough cover to hide him properly.
Their ability to dodge was improving too, in a more straightforward way. In some ways this was the easier of the two tasks being set to them; there were fewer variables, and the only thing that really mattered was not getting hit. It wasn’t perfect just yet though, so by the end of the session, there were enough glancing wounds between Azalea and Nightshade for Rhys to give that healing from the other day another go.
“You don’t need to rush it,” Noa said. He knew enough from casting his own spells that gathering and controlling a lot of energy took time to master. Rhys closed his eyes and took a breath, apparently heeding Noa’s advice. Noa could feel, a little bit, that gathering of energy; and then, when Rhys was ready, Noa gave him a signal, and Rhys let that energy go. Nightshade and Azalea both saw their wounds closed.
“How was it this time?” Noa asked, taking stock of the Faeron's condition.

{A little less tiring,} Rhys replied. {I think now that I have a little idea of what I’m doing, I can control it better.}
“That’s good. Well, we’ll be practicing for a while yet, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to try,” Noa said.
True to his word, they repeated the sessions on a daily basis over the course of several days. In that time, everything got practiced at least a little bit - the stalking and the dodging, as a matter of course, but also Azalea’s regenerative capabilities and Rhys’s healing ones. There was less and less need for them as time went on, as Azalea and Nightshade’s ability to dodge improved, but when they were tired enough, they still slipped up occasionally.
With all that practice, slowly but surely, Rhys got a grasp on how to control the flow of healing energy to disperse it more widely at once. He still couldn’t do it very often, but he could consistently produce the effect on demand now, and not find himself wholly exhausted at the end of it. Likewise, Azalea gained more confidence in her ability to seal her own wounds, though it also wasn’t something she could use quickly in succession.
By the time their dodging was up to snuff for Noa’s satisfaction, everything else had wrapped up just as well. It had been a longer, more laborious set of training exercises than most, but he considered the results well worth it.
